X. The Vocalist
•
I should've known. The group of screaming fans outside the SM building. The reason the manager failed to mention in full detail of the situation and went as far as to lie.
Byun Baekhyun, best known as the main vocalist of EXO. Formally known as my idol boyfriend.
I've seen him around at company events like the workshops and concerts. Most definitely at the end of the year award shows but we hardly talked. After our break up a few years ago, talking became less of thing we did despite our agreement of staying friends.
"I didn't think..." He starts.
"That they would send me to you." I finished his sentence.
I internally sigh yet smile, "I guess I wasn't the only one out of the loop."
"You didn't know?" He tilted his head up at me.
"No clue..."
"That makes sense." Baekhyun mutters under his breath, his gaze falling. His orbs moving back and forward in thought.
"If you feel uncomfortable, I can ask them to let you off the hook." He fixed his wrinkled up white tee as he stood on his two feet. Heading passed me to the door I had previously entered in through a few minutes ago.
It's not that at all. I'm not uncomfortable, I just haven't adjusted to the fact of talking to him. Again. "Wait..." I mumble, turning my body around to see his figure in front of the door. His face hidden away as he has turned slightly the opposite direction.
"You don't have to help me. I will figure it out myself." He grips onto the handle on the door about to click it open.
"If they thought you could, they wouldn't have sent me without your knowledge." I reasoned. The company always has a purpose in whatever they do.
He shakes his head lightly, "It's alright. You don't have to force yourself." Force myself?
I set my bag on the black leather couch following with my own self. "I'm already here." His eyes briefly meet mine before he swiftly moves his away. Peeking down at the earphones laying next to me. My eyes trail up to a piece of paper hiding under the sleek midnight cushions.
"Don't..." I hear his footsteps against the newly polished floorboards. My fingertips glide the music out.
My eyes scanning over the title across the top of the thin white sheet music.
Different.
The song I did with Kim Soo Bum from 2011. My mind instantly remembers the lyrics.
If anyone knew this song. It would be me. I knew every falsetto and amount of breaths needed to sing the song with the appreciation it deserved.
Who else was qualified to teach him the song besides the person who originally sung it and performed it live on stage.
"I'll help you. There is no else who can." And that's the truth.
Baekhyun just stares at me before he lightly nods in agreement. No longer protesting.
"Let's get to work."
