16 |The Behavior That Confuses|
Soham dragged her to the backyard, finally out running the media reporters who were following them since the incident that happened inside.
"You're fine right? He didn't touch you anywhere else did he?" he asked, looking on her with concern laced in his eyes along with anger.
"I'm fine but please calm-"
She sneezed and quickly covered her nose preventing the tiny water droplets to fall on Soham who was standing right in front of her.
"Sorry. But please calm down I don't want-" before she could finish, he cut her off.
"Calm down? That bastard touched you inappropriately Sanyukta!"
"I know that Soham and whatever you did was right but let it go. Whenever you get angry you tend to do things which could hurt yourself," she told, holding his shoulders.
"I don't care about that. I just want to know that he didn't do anything else to you. Just say the word and he is dead." Soham looked into her eyes, seeing distress and disgust from what happened inside.
"While I am alive, no one can touch you. I promise you that," he said softly making her smile at his sweet behavior which was entirely new to her.
"Can I ask a question?" she asked.
"Anything."
"Why are you like this?"
"Like what?"
Sanyukta sighed and turned away from him hugging herself to keep warm as the cool breeze held her body.
"At one point you distance yourself from me and at another point you do things for me, you help me."
Soham's face straightened as he walked over to her, fixing his jacket's cuffs.
"You don't know me Sanyukta. You don't understand me either. I'm a man beyond your understanding and the more you try to understand me is the more complicated I get," he told, leaning closer to her face before walking away.
"You might think I don't understand you but I do and you can't see that," Sanyukta replied holding his wrist, stopping him from walking away.
"Behind the Soham whom the world knows, is a different man entirely and that man is beyond your understanding whether you are ready to accept it or not."
He pulled his hand out of her hold and walked to his car, with the events which happened inside playing over in his head.
Soham's POV
His dirty hands touched her. Making her uncomfortable and disgusted.
He touched MY wife. Soham Verma's wife.
That bastard placed his hands where they aren't supposed to go and if Sanyukta didn't hold me back then I would have chopped his hands off right there and then.
I saw her pushing his hands away. I saw her trying to get out of disgusting hold but that snake didn't let her go.
I just couldn't stop myself.
I had to slap that sinister smirk off of his face to show him that NO man puts their hands on MY wife.
'Weren't you the same man who told her that you don't accept her?' my mind mocked as I sat down angrily in the driver's seat of the car.
I couldn't deny the fact that I don't accept her as my wife but yet I treat her like my wife, like my life partner.
I help her when she needs help and I care for her when she needs it the most.
I slammed my hands on the steering wheel and gripped it tightly, trying to figure out what was going on with me.
She cares for me, she helps me, she wants my relationship between me and my parents to get better.
I was confused. Very confused with myself and my actions and her actions towards me. Me. A man whom I thought one could ever love or care for.
I took out a bottle of alcohol which was hidden in the compartment in front of me.
I popped the top open and turned it to my head, gulping it down.
I had to get rid of these thoughts clouding my mind. All the confusion which was consuming me day by day.
She hates it when I drink but fuck it.
Drinking was an easier way of bringing me to my death bed then suicide. I already have enough slit marks on both my wrists and I didn't want to add anymore.
Feeling the bitter yet delightful taste of the alcohol rushing through my body, I felt myself relax a little as I leaned back into the seat.
"Soham! Soham where are you?"
I heard her voice calling for me but I didn't hide the bottle. I was too engrossed in the thoughts that wouldn't go away and closed my eyes.
"Soham-"
She stopped in the middle of her sentence, probably because I was holding the alcohol bottle in my hands.
"I told you not to drink then why? And where did you get this I thought I searched the car."
"Well sweetheart you didn't search hard enough," I told, opening my closed eyes to wink at her.
She reached to take the bottle away from me but I moved my hand away. She reached in more and I moved my hand even farther.
This continued until she fell on me, holding my shoulders and my hands holding her waist protectively.
I shifted my eyes to her hazel-brown ones only to find them piercing into mine, trying to find something.
The bottle was now on the ground on the passenger side of the car, the alcohol ruining the small mat which was there.
Our faces were inches away, and our bodies were squashed together.
She has never been this close to me before and I have never held her so close to me as if my life depended on it.
That was when I realized how beautiful she was looking in that blue laced top dress.
When I first saw her I was too shocked to retain everything, but now I see how stunning she looked in the dress.
It held her body just right, the lace not too revealing. Her hair was let loose for the wind to play with it and her makeup was simple yet beautiful.
"Soham," she spoke softly, her voice so innocent and pure. "Can you please let me go?"
I looked away in embarrassment and released her from my hold.
Sanyukta came off of me and looked everywhere but at me. "Can we leave now?" she asked and I nodded in agreement.
She walked over to the to passenger door but I stopped her. "Sit in the back, the alcohol ruined the mat and I don't want it to mess up your heels."
Doing what I said, she sat in the back taking off her heels, rubbing her foot.

I felt a hard slap fall on my face and standing rooted in my place, the stinging sensation held my cheek tightly as I placed my hand on it.
"You fucking imbecile!" my father yelled as he angrily stood in front of me fuming."Because your stupidity we lost the deal with Mr. Choudary! What was the need to slap and insult Samar in front of everyone?"
"He touched Sanyukta dad. He placed his dirty hands on her," I told, not wanting to match his tone of anger as it penetrated through me just by thinking about the incident.
"You could have done that in private. And who cares?"
"If someone did that to Aisha you-"
Before I could finish another slap landed on my face.
"Don't you ever say that again you ass! You know what, get out of my house! Get out!" he roared.
"Gladly. I didn't even want to be here in the first place." I took Sanyukta's hand and walked towards the door but stopped. "You know why I chose to stay here? Because Urmi is pregnant and her husband's memories are linked with this house."
I looked on the 6 months pregnant helper who was smiling at me with teary eyes, her hands rubbing her baby bump.
"You come as well Urmi, I will buy you some clothes. Sanyukta you go for you suitcase," I said.

SV Mansion
Though I haven't entered my house in 6 months, the atmosphere was the same. Painful, lonely and loveless.
Everything was the same except, now I was going to share my space with Sanyukta.
"Soham are you-"
"I fine. I am going to my room don't disturb me," I told bitterly, cutting her off with coldness bold in my voice.
I knew she was going to ask my about the slap. I knew she was going ask why didn't I do anything but little does she know that I can't do anything.
