09 |The Words That Hurt|

The sun once again mischievously entered her room and danced on her face to wake her up from her slumber that she was peacefully in.

It was very knowledge that it shouldn't be messed with as it always got its way, and that's what it did. The sun's rays continued to work its magic, but this time it planted kisses on her face.

Sanyukta groaned and covered her face with her pillow but to no avail, she had kicked the sheets off her the night before and so her legs were exposed to the sun causing it smirk.

"Ugh, fine I'm getting up," she gave in and dragged herself out of bed. She didn't trust herself to sit up as it would only lead to her falling back to sleep.

Yawing as she headed to the bathroom, she passed by the mirror and her eyes fell on the mangalsutra that hung around her neck.

She was married. In a sacred bond of loyalty, trust, communication and love, but the situation that she was in now, she doesn't seem as if all of those things would be achieved.

Sanyukta simply peeled her eyes away from her reflection and went into the bathroom to freshen up.

After their talk the night before, she wanted to check up on him, maybe talk about how things were going to move forward as they were both now husband and wife.

Pushing the slightly opened door, she saw him placing a glass shard on his wrist, ready to slice his veins.

"Soham!" she yelled, running over to him. "What the hell are you doing?"

Grabbing the razor out of his hand, she threw it in the bin and turned him to face her.

"Why Soham? Suicide is not the answer." Her was voice was laced with concern that was audible in her tone and worry lurking in her eyes.

"Leave me alone! Let me die! You wouldn't understand what I am going through. I don't-" he held his head tighter feeling the pain pounding inside it. "I don't want to live anymore."

"You can't kill yourself for those who don't treat you right. It will show them that they have achieved torturing you until you took your own life," she said holding his hands.

"I just want to be alone Sanyukta. Please leave," he told pushing her hands away as he stood up.

"I won't leave you alone because you will try to harm yourself again."

Soham wondered why she cared for him so much, the hardly knew each other and whatever he does to himself shouldn't matter at all to her.

They were still strangers.

It puzzled him.

'Suicide is not the answer Soham.'

What she said was true but he wanted freedom. Even if he went to his house, pain was still with him. Pain was always with him and it doesn't want to let go so instead of it letting go, then why doesn't he let go?

It made sense doesn't it?

Sanyukta went over to him and held his wrist, taking him over to the bed to sit.

"Killing yourself isn't going to make a difference, Soham. Why should you be punished for the way they treat you? By doing all of this you giving them more power.

You are showing them that they have succeed in breaking you to the point of no return, to the point where you want to kill yourself." She looked down at wrist and saw multiple marks of his attempted suicide. Then and there she felt horrible. "What will you gain by losing your life?"

"Freedom. The one that I need," he replied.

"Freedom is when you will finally be able to forget the pain and sorrow that they gave you, show them that no matter how much they try, you can't break.

Freedom is when you see their faces of defeat and guilt of crushing you. Freedom is when you finally find happiness and you are the only one who can find it, no one else can find it for you."

It fascinated him to see how encouraging she was, how strongly she wants to see him fight back and break free.

The vigor in her eyes was a sight he could look at all day. Was he that important to her for her to be helping him so much?

"Why are you doing all of this for me? Why are you saying all of this?" he asked softly.

"I was drowning like you at one point in my life, not due to your situation, to a different one, but some how I found my way to shore, however I still have water in my lungs. I'm not healed but isn't that better than being underwater? Can I ask you something?"

"What?"

"Have you ever considered therapy?"

"I am going to therapy, but I'm still hanging on to a thread," he replied.

"Things take time, you just have to be patient, and please promise me to never try this stunt again."

Soham looked at her as she forwarded her pinky finger waiting for him to wrap his around hers.

He stared into her eyes that showed she cared despite them knowing very little about each other, practically still strangers, and for a split second, glimpses of her pure soul twinkled as he stared deeper.

Wrapping his finger around hers, she smiled and patted his shoulder before drew back her finger.

She got up and headed to the door but before she left the room she said, "Everyone is downstairs having breakfast, come when you're ready."

Sanyukta sat around the dinning table, joining Randhir, Siya and Aisha who were awaiting her to come.

"How was your night beta?" Randhir asked as he ate his last piece of roti on the plate.

"Okay I guess," she answered, not in the mood for any conversations.

After seeing and hearing about Soham's parents, Sanyukta wondered how such respectable people like them, who treat people so kindly in front of the cameras, treat their son like garbage.

It made her wonder why people look up to such people who lie and act in front of the cameras for mere publicity, and when the cameras aren't there, they are a whole different person with a different personality.

Seeing Soham being treated like trash hurts her even though she only met him two weeks ago.

It wasn't fair for anyone to be treated that way and one of the reasons she agreed to marry him was to show his parents what they were doing was wrong and make them see how broken their son was.

Minutes into eating her food, she saw Soham walk into the dinning room and surprisingly sat beside her.

"Why are you so hellbent on ruining our reputation?" his mom spoke, making him look on her in confusion.

"Don't give her that look young man. Why are you constantly picking fights with Samar? Mr. Choudary is this close to cancelling the deal with us," Randhir said angrily.

"What are you both talking about?"

"Two days ago you chose to fight with Samar over a simple issue."

"Dad he wanted us to buy out a small company which was gradually growing. Just imagine the loss of the poor owner.

Not only that, but he also made us lose three big investors and ruined the entire presentation for a very important meeting I had. How is that a simple matter?"

"I don't care about that Soham. He is Samar Choudary and he can do whatever the fuck he wants. We have managed to bag a deal with his father and we don't want to loose it.

So whether you like it or not, you better put up with him," Randhir told sternly.

"So I should put up with his childish behavior and watch the company sink?" Soham asked.

"Look, if we lose that deal because of you I swear I will destroy your ass! You are already a burden on us and we don't want because of you another burden falls on our shoulders do you understand that!" His mother's harsh words hurt him indeed but he has gotten used to it.

It wasn't anything new. It was like this everyday.

"Mom, dad I'm sure Soham must have-" before she could finish Siya cut her off.

"You stay out of this Sanyukta."

Soham got up without eating as usual and walked towards the door.

"Soham! Soham wait!" Sanyukta yelled as she ran behind of him.

"Soham!" Grabbing his hand, she stopped him from stepping outside.

"Don't get angry. I know it's tough but-"

"Don't get angry? Don't get fucking angry?" He looked on her with a dark and dangerous stare making her gulp a little. "Can't you see they don't love me Sanyukta? And why shouldn't I get angry? I am working my ass off 24/7 to making sure that the business, that I don't want to even operate is number one and when I am doing that they have a problem."

He sighed and rubbed his temples, closing his eyes in frustration. "I might come home late tonight, don't wait for me."

Saying that he left, dragging his hand out of her hold and went towards his car.
