07 |The Wedding Bells That Ring|
2 Weeks Later
Soham sat in his room staring at his reflection in the mirror before him.
Looking at the man in front of him, he felt like he didn't know him anymore.
His parents kept forcing him to do whatever they say and he kept on doing them no matter how many times he told himself wasn't going to.
He was dressed up in a gold sherwani with red leggings and white shoes, getting ready to get married, against his will.
He told his parents over and over that he didn't want to marry and that he never will but them being them, they ignored him and there he was now.
Sitting in his room waiting for his dad to call him to go and sit at the mandap to wait on his bride.
Bride?
The same woman whom he met two weeks ago he was going to marry her.
He wondered why Sanyukta would say yes to marry a man she just met two weeks ago. It puzzled him but whatever the reason may be he didn't want all this.
He want didn't this marriage. It enraged him to the point where he wanted to scream out loud that he didn't want it.
But what can he do but sit and endure everything. Speaking up against his parents would bring his downfall and didn't want that.
All he wanted was love.
All he wanted was at least 5 minutes of love showered on him by his parents but he knew that would never happen and he just had to continue dreaming.
"Get your ass up and go and sit at the mandap," his dad spoke, standing at the door of his room braking his chain of thoughts.
"Dad please, just listen to-"
"Shut up Soham and get your ass down there, NOW! You are marrying that girl whether you like it or not or else I pretty well know what to do with filth like you."
Hearing his father's harsh words he sighed, trying to hold back the tears which wanted to flow down his cheeks.
'If only she had said no," he thought, walking to the door turning around to take a last look at 'his' which was going to be 'their' room after a few hours.
He sat at the mandap just like how he was told and looked around at all the people who were busy waiting for the wedding to start.
Reporters were videoing and taking pictures of him and the simple decor of the main hall which was beautifully decorated with white and red roses.
'They forced him to marry and they didn't even have the consideration to go all out for him'.
But why would they though?
Did they care about him to spend their 'precious' money on him? No.
If it was Aisha's wedding then everything would have been extremely different.
Suddenly, everyone's eyes landed on Sanyukta who was walking down the stairs alongside her father and one of her cousins.
Soham turned his head, following everyone's gaze until his eyes landed on Sanyukta.
The red lehenga hugged her body a bit and she held her white veil as she smiled walking down the stairs towards the mandap.
Seeing her face he knew that she wasn't against this marriage which infuriated him a bit.
She only knew him for two weeks and they have met only once, excluding their regular meeting in the hospital, so why would she say yes?
She sat down beside of him and took a quick glance before turning her head away.
"Don't expect anything from me," he spoke making her look at him in confusion.
"What do you mean?"
"Okay, let's start the rituals," the priest said.
As the wedding went on, his parents smirked seeing that their plan was going on the right track and everything was going smoothly without anyone knowing.
They didn't care about who Soham married or not, it was the least or their worries, but when they found that Dr. Sanyukta Ahuja saved his life they knew they needed to cooked up something.
And Soham marrying Sanyukta was the best plan to achieve their goal and whether he liked it or not he was going to marry her at any cost.
It took them a week and half to convince her father to let her marry their son.
They found out he hated the thought of his daughter marrying and leaving him one day so they had to work extra hard to convince him.
And surprisingly, Sanyukta never had problem with marrying Soham when her father asked her.
She never had a problem with arranged marriage and since her father was the one who brought forth the topic of her marrying, she knew she couldn't allow that chance to go, hence she agreed.
They sort of felt bad for her father who was going to loose everything unknowingly, but to stay the best they had to play dirty.
"Congratulations, you are nowing husband and wife," the priest said, as he stood up along with Soham and Sanyukta.
"Son, take care of her. She is my baby and if anything happens to her then I will die," Rajveer spoke, placing his hand on his shoulders.
"Don't worry uncle, I will," Soham answered softly yet blankly. "I have to go."
He left leaving the guests surprised with his actions and his father in law confused.
He entered 'their' room and started to throw whatever his hands could reach.
He was fed up with his life. He was sick and tired of being forcing into doing things.
He had enough of seeing his parents fake their love for him.
He was tired with everything around him and especially himself.
"Who am I?" he asked himself, staring into the mirror.
'You're the man whom his parents doesn't want. You're the man whom they force to do everything they say day in and day out. You're the man who live in pain and sadness and will never come out,' his mind told and he chuckled darkly.
"That's fucking right. That's who I am, nothing but trash who nobody doesn't want. That's what I am and will always be."
Taking up the bottle of alcohol from his coffee table, he pulled the cap and started to gulp down the whole thing.
Pain gripped him tightly not wanting to let go as all of the painful memories flashed before his eyes
'You will do whatever we say, do you get that.'
'You are going to do business and that's final. I don't give a fuck about your damn dreams.'
'You were never supposed to be here Soham, not only were you our unwanted child, you were a mistake and will always be.'
'You're going to get married to Sanyukta and that is final. If you object I will make your life hell.'
'Get your ass downstairs and go and sit at the mandap.'
He sighed and stared at the empty bottle of alcohol, seeing the man he has become, an emotional alcoholic with an aching heart.
Alcohol soothes him and his pain. No matter how angry he might be, alcohol was always there for him. It was the only thing that understood him, that was there for him.
He knew it was bad for him, bad for his health but it hard for him to peel away from the feelings that drew him closer to the harmful drink.
Sanyukta walked inside of his room after she said her goodbyes to her father and few family members who came.
Upon entering, she saw Soham sitting on the bed drinking the night away, his eyes heavy with emotions and body weighed down with pain.
"You know drinking is bad for you." she said, starting up a conversation.
"I know, but it's the only thing soothes whatever is going on in my heart," he replied, not making eye contact with her but knew very well that she was walking over to the bed.
"I can tell you're not happy. "
It was then he lifted up his head and looked at her, her tired figure and sleepy eyes that were tempted to close the second she blinked didn't went unnoticed to him.
"I didn't want any of this. I didn't want to get married and make the other person deal with the burden of having me as their partner." He placed the bottle on the nightstand and ran his hand through his hair. "I'm a wreck, Sanyukta. I'm nothing but a wreck."
"You're not a burden Soham, and you're not a wreck either. Every cloud has a sliver lining, your cloud will get its sliver lining eventually. You just have wait
He chuckled and shook his head, getting up from the bed. "My cloud has fallen and I don't think it will ever rise again."
"With that mindset it will be very hard for it to," she said rubbing her eyes, sleep winking at her in a distance, waiting for at the door to step into its office.
"You look exhausted. You should really get some sleep, in fact I should too."
Soham's eyes fell on the bed that he just now realized was covered in roses made in the shape of a heart, mocking him.
"Do you want some help?" Sanyukta asked seeing that he was staring at the decorated bed.
"No I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I just want to be alone."
"Okay, I can understand. Good night."
"Good night." He gave her a small nod and watched her walk to the door to exit the room. "The guest bedroom is down the hall to the left. Gopal will help you with your bags."
"Thank you." Saying that she finally left the room and looked around at the house she now going to call home.
