Footsteps pounded on the deck above and I groaned. If the crew doesn't have a good explanation for disturbing my sleep, the sharks that keep following us will get to have more than scraps for breakfast.
I stretch as I pull out of bed, my lean muscles loosening. I wrestle on some black pants and an open red shirt with rolled up sleeves before walking across the moving floor to the small mirror shard glinting on the opposite wall. I look at the mirror and intense green eyes stare back. I snatch my eyepatches off a nearby chair and pull them over my ears, before they cover my unusual eye color.
I slam open the door and step into the waking sun. Everyone freezes, watching my every movement. As I make my way towards the captain, their eyes follow, fearful. As I approach, Savage chuckles, "It seems you still have that effect on animals." A grin crosses his face, "One of the reasons you make such a great first mate."
"Are we going to sit, have tea, and waste daylight, or are you going to explain why we're nearing land?" I grumble, mentally pushing away the statement.
He rubs his hands together. "There's a port on this island, small port, sure, but we can steal provisions after having a little fun." The crew lets out hoots of excitement before I silence them with a growl.
"I see." I look towards the approaching island, before looking back at him. "Is it your old tribe?" He pricks his ears and gives me a slight look of surprise.
"Why yes. Yes it is." He has a mechanical grin on his face and his eyes have a deadly fire burning inside of them. He looks at me. I return my gaze to the miniscule island.
"Can't wait."
An hour earlier...
It was another calm, peaceful day in Bunny Burrow. With the exception of a gray bunny slipping in and out of the tent shadows. Her lavender eyes gleamed, but her nose twitched rapidly. She looked ahead and saw the open field and heard the rushing wind. Her paws ached to run in the long grass and blow her ears back. She longed for the feeling of freedom. Alas, there she was, the eldest daughter of the chief, the one to soon be mated with an old coot, a widowed sailorman who wouldn't stop gushing about his past wife.
The sun peeked over the horizon, turning the grass gold. She took a deep breath of the fresh air and the scent of wilderness.
"Judith Hopps!"
The young bunny turned to face the wrath of her mother, bracing herself for a punishment. The grey colored bunny marched towards her eldest daughter, dark purple eyes gleaming in anger. One paw rested on her pregnant belly, the other clenched into a tight fist.
"H-h-hello mom..." Judith shivered as her mother drew closer.
"What did we tell you about leaving your tent! Why don't you ever behave like Lily?" Bonnie cooed as she mentioned the younger Hopps sister, yet snapped the rest of her words.
Judith drew herself together before announcing, "Mom, I am about to be matched, so I would appreciate a little freedom before I become a mother." Her mother fixed her with a glare and Judith felt herself wilting under her mother's stare, yet kept herself sturdy, for the fear that if he didn't, she would crumble before her own mother's eyes.
Her mother finally switched her attention to the still rising sun. 'Fine, but when I come back, and you're not here... There will be disappointing consequences." She then turned her chin to the sky and strutted back to her bewildered mate, who had watched the scene with widened eyes. Bonnie told him few stern words, before slipping into the tent behind him.
Judith turned back to the sun peaking over the golden stalks of grass. She sighed, closing her eyes, and nosing the wind, which whipped her fur every which way in return. All of this, she did, with a beautiful smile on her face.
Fire licked at the tents of the village. The scent of death filled the air. A single vixen dashed between tents, protecting her tribemates from the death grip of the blaze. She herded the terrified rabbits to the natural dock, where they watched their home burst into flames.
Earlier...
A lone arrow pierced the sky, zipping towards Bunny Burrow. A small child noticed the arrow and ran to get his parents, who, at the sight of the arrow, alerted the chief. By this time, the arrow had lodged itself in the center pole of the chief's tent, silencing one of his daughters and one of his few sons. The arrowhead caught fire, setting the surrounding fabric into flames.
Present...
A sudden gasp sent heads turning. A single rabbit was turned to the sea, agape and eyes bulging. When her mother questioned her, she responded by pointing off into the distance.
When the vixen spun to look, she immediately covered her muzzle with her paw, eyes wide and ears flat against her skull.
Heading towards them, small figures swarming the decks, was the dreaded, ferocious...
Zootopia.
Zootopia First Mate (ZFM)
I watch the rabbit tribe gather on the dock, and I grin, ready to attack the waiting bunnies, when a orange head poked out of the midst. My ears twitched and I saw the orange head turn to the ship. Ears laid back, the figure got into a defensive position in front of the rabbits, its fluffy orange tail wrapped protectively around a small, gray ball of fluff.
A fox. Protecting some carrot muncher? The thought appalled me and I growled. Zootopia slowly approached the tribe and I could practically see them quivering. The fox -which I could identify as a vixen- bared her teeth in our direction.
She then surveyed the surrounding area, ears pricked as she lead the rabbit tribe away, past the fire and onto the sandy beach, where she marched them towards the forest. A large -not particularly fat- male rabbit had smoke coming out of his ears as he stormed over to the vixen. He seemed to be shouting at her and the surrounding crowd laid their ears back and walked a bit faster.
The rabbit was decked out in the typical tribal uniform, but he adorned a feathered headdress, so it was safe to assume he was the chief. He scolded her, and I could now make out words. "You stupid fox!" He spat the word like it was poison on his tongue. "What in the world of hell are you doing? I haven't found my daughters, and I would hope you didn't eat them!"
The vixen's ears lay back, "I would never chief!" It was then I noticed that the vixen had gold eyes. Beautiful.
I nodded to a nearby pirate and he shouted, "To the dock!"
