💖 CHAPTER THREE💖
I wasn't a specialized locksmith nor did I crack people's lock for a living.
I was only a student of Phoenix High and I sometimes forgot to bring along my locker keys to school or misplaced them. Due to that, I forced myself into learning how to pick locks to save myself from the predicaments I went through every time that happened. I occasionally picked Zoey's locker too.
But Zoey made it seem that way or even worse, like I was some sort of delinquent who extracted joy from picking student's locker. That was why I choked on my drink and went into a wheezing and gagging frenzy after she asked me to do that favor for her.
Zoey gave me a worried look and patted my back until I recovered. Once I was back to normal, I threw her a sharp glare and hissed.
"Are you crazy! Why should I do that?!"
I quickly looked around the cafeteria to ensure no one was eavesdropping on our not so inconspicuous conversation. Luckily, all the students nearby were preoccupied with their own activities.
I heaved a sigh of relief and whipped my head back to Zoey, she was calmly eating her Cheetos and appeared to not care about how immense the penalty of what she wanted me to do could be If we get caught. We could be sent straight to detention or worst, suspended from school. I wasn't ready to create a clean page for myself in the school blacklist.
In response to my question, a cheeky grin formed on her face and I noticed a glint of excitement in her dark brown pupils. She edged her head nearer to me and uttered faintly.
"I'm thinking 'bout giving Troy the must remarkable shock of his life."
I stared at her with confusion written allover my face and tried to decipher what she meant by that. I was sure she wasn't thinking about sneaking a spider inside his locker because that would be too preschool-ish. Or was she planning to put slime inside? I was about to ask her when again for the second time today, the annoying school bell rang.
As if waiting for the bell to ring, Zoe hoisted from the bench quickly and slung her backpack on her left shoulder.
"If you are in, meet me after school at the staircase and then, I'll tell you the detail of my plan." Saying that, she turned around and walked away joining the host of students jumbled in the cafeteria as everyone was rushing to get to their next class.
I quickly snagged my things and followed after her hoping to keep up with her before she disappeared into the cluster of students. By the time I stepped out of the cafeteria, she was gone.
I gruntled and ran two hands through my slightly thatch brown hair, exasperated. I was sure Zoey walked away from me and left me in suspense on purpose, she knew my weakest point was my curiosity. Once I got curious about something I would never get contentment until I unravel it.

And Her plan succeeded.
Throughout the rest of my classes, I couldn't focus on a single sentence the teachers were saying. No matter how hard I tried to concentrate in class, my mind kept transposing back to the conversation Zoey and I had. I was desperate to find out what she was planning to do and maybe I would be capable of stopping her before she execute it.
I kept fiddling in my seat and tapping my fingers against the wooden desk in front of me. Sporadically, I would take a glance at the middle-sized wall clock in our class and cussed silently, it seemed to me like the time was teasing me because it was moving in a snail pace. One second felt like a minute and a minute like an hour, all I wanted was to start screaming at the clock to move faster.
But I guessed before that could happen, I would already be dead due to impatience.
I was too engaged in my internal complaint that I didn't realized I was drumming my fingers on the desk quite louder than intended until Mr Davis, the teacher currently in our class teaching Geography, slammed the end of my table with his hand.
I flinched and nearly lost my balance on the chair I was sitting.
I heard a few snickers erupted in the class.
"Miss Michael, will you refrain from drumming in my class, you are diverting the attention of my students!" He growled.
"Yes Mr Davis." I choked out and sank deep into my seat as I felt the eyes of many students teared through my flesh and soul. It wasn't like I was afraid of my classmates attention on me, I just hated it and always felt uncomfortable when they stared at me.
Mr Davis bobbed his head and turned around to continue his mind-numbing monotone lecture.
To sum it up, during the last class before school closed, I was a mess. I could hardly sit well on my seat, I felt like something was eating me from the inside, it was with no doubt my desperation for the school to close.
When I finally heard the sound of the bell, I literally leaped out of my seat and started to haphazardly throw my writing materials into my school back. Once the teacher exited the class, I was the first to tail after him.
As I walked into the hallway, students began to pour out of their classes like herds of sheep eluding out of their cotes. Suddenly, the superfluous chatter of students erupted all-over the school and once again, Pheonix high turned into ear-torturing center.
When I got to the staircase, Zoey was already there, her back inclined against the railing waiting for me. As I was descending down the staircase, I paused when I reached her and pinched the side of her left cheek with my hand. She abruptly turned her head with a furrowed brow ready to lash on the person that pinched her. When she saw it was me, her face lightened up and she said.
"You are here!" her smile expanded Into a toothy grin. "I knew you'd show up."
I scuffed and walked around to join her at the side of the staircase. "Unfortunately." I muttered and stood in front of her.
She moved away from the railing now standing straight and folded her arms together.
"So, are you going to help or not?" She asked.
"Well, regarding that, I'm actually not here to assist you with your malicious plan Zoey. I'm here to stop you." I admitted without beating around the bush.
"Touché." She chuckled.
"But you can't talk me out of this 'cause I have already made up my mind. You should have at least heard me out before you decided to stop me. Do you even know why I want to take revenge?"
"Because you can't get over your cheating ex-boyfriend and you think taking revenge is the right thing to do." I stated matter of fact-ly.
She sniggered and shook her head incredulously. "I can't believe you think of me that way Sky." She said offended. The delightful expression on her face wavered.
"The reason why I want to do this is not because I'm not over Troy, in fact I was over him since last Saturday. It's because of the way he ended our relationship, he cheated on me and chose to breakup with me on our anniversary, wasn't that cruel? when I tried to confront for him for doing that he called me a fre*king needy, clingy and manipulative person. Don't you think a guy like him who doesn't have a tiniest respect for the person who trusted him with all her heart deserves to be taught a lesson?"
"Was it also why you keyed Hayden's car?" I couldn't help but asked, since we were having this conversation might as well disclosed to her that I saw her that day when she was busy damaging his car paintwork.
Her eyes widened with surprise and she said accusingly "you saw me that day and you didn't say anything to me. Why?"
"For the same reason you didn't tell me about it." I retorted.
"Yeah you kinda have a point here." She said and laughed nervously.
"So tell me why you did that?" I interrogated.
"Because he was a douchebag like Troy. Well, except he didn't unexpectedly breakup with me and throw offensive words at me. You get the point?"
I was quiet for a few seconds, digesting her words, everything she said was right. Even though I had never been in a relationship I was able to understand her feeling. I couldn't imagine how she felt when the guy she trusted with everything broke her trust and on top of that maligned her. Even though taking revenge was a little over the top and imprudent, regardless of that I chose to help her. Because that moment, an ounce of compassion formed inside me.
"Okay, I'm in." I said.
Hearing that from me, Zoey jumped with glee and engulfed me into a bone crushing hug.
"Thank you so much Sky! You really are the best!" She shrieked into my ears.
After crushing all the two hundred and six or more bones in my body, she let go of me. I staggered backward with a smile on my face.
"So, what's the big plan?" I asked after I regained my posture.
All of a sudden, all the euphoria on her face drained away and she face-palmed herself as if she remembered something. She looked at me with an awkward smile on her face and began to play aimlessly with her fingers. Something she did whenever she was angry, anxious, sad or guilty.
"Uhm...about that..." she stammered.
I gave her a dubious look.
"...The plan may include crawling creatures with spiny legs and antenna that you are really terrified of." She said giving me a forlorn puppy look.
It took me sometimes to comprehend what she was talking about. A shiver ran down my spine and goosebumps began to spread allover my body.
Then I was back in middle school when I nearly ate a cockroach. I didn't know how it ended up in my lunch bag and settled in the middle of my sandwich filling. I almost ate that disgusting creature but luckily, I saw it's one single leg peered out between the fillings of my delicious looking sandwich as I was about to take the first bite.
I thought I was going to die that day after I spent nearly an hour puking my entire innards in the toilet.
Later on, I found out one of my naughty classmates snuck it inside there.
After remembering the horrible incident, I felt my guts shooting up like I was about to be sick. I looked at Zoey with weary eyes, I didn't think I could keep up with her antics.
"Are you kidding me!" I bleated.
