Chapter 27: Ring Toss (Mega Chapter)
-Rogue P. O. V.-
"So, you're telling me that you've never been to the beach?" I asked Kagura after we got off the magic bus.
She nodded. "Yeah. I haven't been to a boardwalk, either. Well, I've been to the pier. Does that count?"
"No."
She lightly punched my arm. "Shut up. You're lucky that you're cute..."
Ahh, I love my little tsundere.
"So, what did you buy?" I pointed at her bag. "You seem to be keeping it very hidden there."
She smirked at me. "Well, that's a surprise. We need to find a changing room, first."
I showed the guy at the ticket booth our all day pass and we entered the boardwalk. I grabbed a map at the entrance.
"The changing rooms are right over there. Let's do this now." Kagura said, pointing on the map and leaning over my shoulder.
We walked over to the changing rooms. Kagura grabbed something big out of the bag and handed it to me, then entered a changing room before I could react.
I smiled. "So, that's what she bought."
I entered a different changing room with the clothes Kagura got.
She bought us kimonos.
-Erza P. O. V.-
"Okay, they're in the changing rooms right now. Muffet, what's the status on the StingYu Unit?"
Arana didn't respond.
"Muffet, what's that status?"
No response. I turned back to look at what Arana was doing.
"Stop making out and help me! Wait. No, keep making out, I got this."
I grabbed the walkie talkie out of Arana's pocket and started using it.
"Come in, StingYu Unit. This is Rogura Unit calling. Pick up, StingYu Unit."
"Hello, Rogura Unit. This is StingYu Unit, Tigress speaking."
"This is Scarlet. What's the sitch?"
"Things are pretty smooth. Gray put his arm around Juvia and Sting and Yukino's hands touched in the popcorn! They did that awkward stare into each other's eyes and turn away thing! Oh, it's so good!"
"Wait... did you say Gray and Juvia?"
"Oh! I forgot to tell you! Sting and Yukino ran into Gray and Juvia on a date, so now they havea double date! Oh god, it's so good!"
"I know it's good, but I'm sooooo gonna tease those two when I go back to Fairy Tail!"
"Oh, Scarlet. Boobs McKenzie is asking how the double date is good."
"Tell her this. Think about it! If Gruvia kisses, StingYu might feel like they should kiss! It's the double kiss! The double team! The double trouble! They'll prepare for trouble, and make it double!"
It was quiet for a moment. "Boobs McKenzie says that she doesn't get it. I don't think she watches Pokemon."
"Well, that's another problem. Anyway, here's my update. Rogue and Kagura went into changing rooms. I didn't get a good look at what they were going to wear, but I'm sure it'll be good."
"Okay. Call back with new updates."
"Wait. They're coming out. Oh my Mavis."
"What!? Scarlet, what is happening!?"
"They are wearing fucking kimonos."
"Kimonos!? Really!?"
"Yes! They're wearing kimonos! They classic Japanese garb! It'll be a traditional love fest! I bet kimonos turn Kagura on."
"Yeah, she probably likes old Japanese culture, with that sword and all."
"Okay, they're gonna move soon. Scarlet out."
"Yeah, I need to focus on the movi- I mean the date. Tigress out."
I hung up.
"Here Muffet, you hold the walkie talkie. Let's go, they're gonna move."
She didn't respond.
"Have you two been making out this whole time!?"
They stopped for a moment. "Yes." They both said in unison. Then they went back to making out.
"I'm... I'm not gonna lie. That's really impressive. It's been like... three minutes. I'm just gonna leave you two here for a while. Catch up with me if you decide to stop." I put the walkie talkie in my pocket.
"Okay, Scarlet." I said aloud. "Time to go rogue. To watch the Rogue. And the Kagura. Away!"
I continued stalking their date.
-Kagura P. O. V.-
"How do I look, Kagura?" Rogue asked after we got out of the changing rooms. We put our normal clothes in my bag.
"You... look..." Don't say sexy, don't say sexy, don't say sexy, he'll hear you.
"Great! It fits you perfectly, Rogue!"
He smiled. "Thanks! You look beautiful, too."
God damn it, this man is sexy enough, why did I buy us kimonos? They turn me on.
Oh yeah. Because everyone at this boardwalk wears kimonos. God damn it.
"Where should we go now?" Rogue snapped me out of my thoughts.
We looked at the map. "How about we start with the ring toss. I'm good at those." I suggested.
He nodded, tucking the map away. "Sure. Let's go."
We linked our arms and walked to the ring toss.
"Step right up, step right up! Win big prizes! Can you land a ring on the golden bottle?" The guy at the booth yelled with a booming cheery voice.
Rogue and I looked at the prizes hanging from the top of the booth. A stuffed panda, a grizzly bear, a Minion, a tiger, a hedgehog, a fox, a rabbit, and a unicorn that was so fluffy I was gonna die.
Then... we saw it.
Rogue's and my eyes both locked on one prize at the end of the booth.
A green exceed... In a pink frog suit...
"Sir." Rogue asked the booth guy. "Where did you get that stuffed exceed?"
"Oh, that little guy?" The man seemed a bit confused, but was pretty happy and calm. "Well, I saw an exceed like that come out and stand in front of his owner when he got beaten by this crazy iron freak in the Grand Magic Games. I heard a lot of people talking about how cute he was, so I put in a special order for a plushie of the little guy. There's only one in existence! And the only way to win it is to land a ring on that golden bottle."
He pointed to a sea of about a hundred and fifty green bottles in a circle on a table. In the center was one single golden bottle.
"I also thought that I'd give the golden bottle away with it, as a like a secondary trophy. You can put the bottle on your shelf and keep that little guy by your side. It seems like a pretty good reward for a one in a hundred and fifty chance."
This seems almost like highway robbery. But, then again. This is a boardwalk.
"I want it." Rogue and I told each other at the exact same time. "Deal!"
"How much for how many rings?"
"A single dollar gets you ten rings."
"That... actually seems pretty reasonable..."
"I know, right? I'm not one of those cheating booths. I run my booth on the straight and narrow. It's so fair that people just keep buying more and more rings. They keep trying to win the exceed. It's like the rings sell like hotcakes, they just keep selling, faster, faster, f-f-f-f-faster. That's why I called the booth 'Sonic Rings.' Catchy name, huh?"
I nodded. "Sure. Here's five bucks. Fifty rings, please."
The man gave us our rings.
"Hyah! Hyah!"
I just started flinging rings at the golden bottle like throwing stars.
"Stop! You'll break them!" Rogue stopped me before I wasted more than ten.
Spoilsport.
"It's fine, kids. The bottles are glued down, minus the gold one, to keep them from falling over. But, yeah. Don't chuck the rings at them. If they break, you'll pay for them."
I nodded. "I'm sorry, sir."
"I said it's fine."
Man, this guy sure is nice.
Rogue took aim and threw a ring. It landed on a green bottle.
"When your rings run out, you can pick your prizes." The man told us.
We tried different ways of aiming. We tried acting like we were skipping stones, we tried overhand, underhand, over the shoulder, backwards. I even got a rebound off of the back wall, and landed on a green bottle. There was a circle of red rings around the golden bottle with red rings scattered around on other bottles and some on the floor.
"This is our last ring, Rogue." I told him, clutching the red piece of metal like it was a teddy bear.
"Do you want to throw it, or should I?"
I took a coin out of my pocket. "Let's flip a coin. Heads I do it. Tails you do it. Two out of three?"
He nodded.
"Okay." I flipped the coin. I caught it and turned it over on my wrist. I moved my hand.
"Heads..."
"Two outta three, darling." Rogue smirked.
I flipped it again.
"Tails."
"Well, this is the moment of truth. Last time."
I flipped the coin.
The coin flipped through the air.
I caught it in my palm.
I flipped it over onto my wrist.
I moved my hand.
(Can you guess? This is way too overly dramatic.)
The coin...
was...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
"Heads."
Rogue shrugged. "Good luck, Kagura. It's do or die time. We either win Frosch's plushie and the golden bottle, or we lose them forever. It's judgement hour."
I was nervous. "Oh dear. This is all too stressful..."
"Hey, look on the bright side. Maybe if we win the bottle and rub it, a magic blue genie will grant us three wishes. Then we'll go from street rats to Prince Ali Ababwa and Jasmine."
"I think you're getting your fairy tales mixed up, Rogue. Jasmine was never a street rat, She just impersonated one."
"You know, you'd be great at Cinema Sins, Kagura." He chuckled.
"Well, now or never. Let's get this done."
I turned to the booth.
I took a deep breath.
I wound my arm back.
My eyes were locked on that golden bottle.
Nothing could distract me.
I was in the zone.
Preparing to win the gold... filled me with determination!
"We play... for mad cash!" I yelled as I swung and tossed the ring.
I closed my eyes after it left my hand, waiting to hear it stop clanging around.
"Kagura, open your eyes."
I opened my eyes.
I stared right at the golden bottle.
That now had my red ring around it's skinny little neck.
"I did it! I did it! suck it, probability!"
Rogue hugged me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Congratulations, Kagura!"
"Well, look at that. Ryos's little girlfriend won the prize, huh?"
"Who's Ryos?" I asked.
"That's... my old name. Not many people know about it. I told Sting, Lector and Frosch, since we're best friends, I guess I've told you just now, Rufus and Minerva found a way to get it out me, and by that I mean get me drunk. I don't know this guy."
"You sure about that, shadow boy?"
"You.. do sound familiar... Were you at the Grand Magic Games?"
"You bet I was. How can you forget that guy that kindled your relationship with the little frog guy."
"Wait... I only know one person who calls Frosch a frog..."
"Gihi. There you go."
Rogue seemed to realize who it was. "No! You mean!"
"Rogue! Stop that! Who is this guy!?"
The man nodded. "Yep. How can you forget the guy that beat your emo little ass?"
He pulled his face off, apparently it was a mask.
And underneath it was...
"Hey there, Ryos. Good to see you again, and your new girlfriend. Gihi."
Gajeel Redfox.
"Hello Gajeel." I greeted.
"Hello again Gajeel." Rogue said.
"Gihi. Hey Ryos. Kagura. You two a thing now?"
"Kinda." I answered.
"What are you doing here?"
Gajeel smirked. "Well, when Flame Head and Icicle Boy got sick, Levy decided to open this ring toss booth. She said that she wanted to do it while Natsu was sick, or else he would try to win and destroy everything. Him getting sick is basically vacation for us. Levy went to get more rings. I volunteered to help her, because those idiots Jet and Droy aren't capable for that kind of work."
"Where's Pantherlily?" Rogue asked.
"Oh, Lily? He went to go get a kiwi. Plus, people kept mistaking him for a prize."
We laughed. "That's funny. Anyway, can we have our prizes now?"
"Sure." Gajeel pulled the golden bottle out of the sea of green ones. He handed it to me, still with my winning red ring around it. "For our champion."
"Thank you!"
He then pulled the exceed plushie off of the booth and gave it Rogue. "And for the cat lover. Here's your frog."
"Frosch is a cat!"
"Gihi." Gajeel chuckled as I giggled.
"May I ask about the real story behind Frosch's soft body double?" I asked.
"Juvia's good at sewing. We put the five exceeds' names into a bowl and we drew Frosch. Happy was really sad, but a fish cheered him up."
"And what about the name?" Rogue asked.
"Gihi. Levy and I are a big fan of the fast blue hedgehog and his orange fox buddy. We even got plushies of them."
"Well, I'll see you later, Gajeel." Rogue said.
"Bye." I waved.
"Bye Kagura. Bye Ryos."
We walked away, my victory tucked under my arm.
Literally, cause I will not let anyone take my bottle. I will shank a bitch.
