She looked at her beautiful baby girl, her baby girl was sleeping peacefully with a smile on her face. Gauri admired her daughter's smile, it was a kind of smile angels would envy. Her daughter's smile gave her peace, peace was what she needed because there were a million thoughts in her head that was troubling her.

Tonight was her last night in the grand Oberoi Mansion, her last night seeing her beautiful daughter sleeping in peace and harmony.

As she was admiring her daughter's beauty, her throat felt dry. She looked at the water bottle...it was empty. Before she went to fill the water bottle, she kissed her daughter's check. She went downstairs and into the kitchen.

As she started filling the water bottle, she heard some voices whispering...she wasn't exactly a nosy person but she could hear exactly what they were saying because they were not whispering quietly! Gauri knew who those two people were.

Jhanvi: please don't separate Mira from Gauri...she is not just your daughter, she is Gauri's daughter too.

Om: that I know and I wish Mira was not Gauri's daughter. No one should have a gold digger as a mother.

His words stung her heart..she knew why he was acting like this, she knew his past, she knew THEIR past  but she wished that he could accept her. Gauri loved her husband but the one sided marriage was making her upset.

Jhanvi: Gauri is not a gold digger.

Om: you're only saying that because you was not in Bareilly.

Jhanvi: no I am saying that because if she was a gold digger then don't you think she would ask for a large amount of money before leaving this place?

Om: whatever! My daughter does not need Gauri as her mother and that is final!

Jhanvi: you and your father...you both are alike! You both are impossible.

Om: don't say that I am like Mr Oberoi besides I spent most of my childhood with you being physically there but not mentally and emotionally there! So if I can manage without a mother and a father, my daughter can manage without a mother.

Gauri felt her eyes watery as she heard Om and Jhanvi walking then going upstairs. Gauri closed the water bottle cap and also went upstairs to her daughter's nursery where she was sleeping in today because she wanted to spend every last moment with her baby girl. She drank some water then picked up her daughter from her cradle. She sat on the bed that was in the nursery and started thinking again.

Gauri in mind: I wish that me and Omkaraji had a good marriage...I have heard stories from other parents that a baby can positively enhance the relationship and bring parents closer. My mother told me that once she and my father adopted me, their marriage became stronger. Sadly my marriage becoming stronger is just a dream...I keep dreaming of me and Omkaraji happy together with you Mira.

As she continued thinking, someone came into the room.

Gauri: who is it?

Rudy: me Gauri.

Gauri: Rudy bhaiya, you?

Rudy: haan mein.

He sat on the side of the bed. He looked at his sleeping niece, smiling at her cuteness.

Rudy: she looks a lot like her mother.

Gauri: no she looks a lot like Omkaraji.

Rudy: I hope she won't end up as coldhearted like her father.

Gauri: Rudy bhaiya...

Rudy: what? I'm just saying that my brother could be less coldhearted. His heart is made out of stone. He shouldn't separate a child from their mother. You are Mira's mother, you carried her for nine months...you've dealt with the aches and pains, you've dealt with the pain of knowing that you would have to leave your child one day, you've dealt with Om constantly reminding you of the agreement and some of the past. You deserve Mira not Om.

Gauri: when did you become this clever?

Rudy: my brother married someone who made me a big brother...you know I was immature because I was the youngest until Om brought you into our house and made me your big brother.

Gauri smiled. She gave Rudy a side hug then said: everyone in this family gave me love expect my own husband. I am grateful for everyone giving me love but I am mostly grateful for you. From day 1, you have been by my side.

Rudy smiled, he was starting to get teary.

Gauri: promise me that you will still be this amazing mature yet funny Rudy?

Rudy: pakka promise.

They smiled at each other, not wanting to sleep because they knew what tomorrow would bring. Rudy soon went to his own room after talking for a small while to his little sister.

...

It was now morning, the morning when she would have to leave. Gauri gave her daughter a bath, changed her into a pretty baby blue romper then gave her to Rudy so she could freshen up and change. As soon as she exited the bathroom, she saw her suitcase packed up...funny. She didn't pack her suitcase yet so who packed it up for her?

Om: here is your suitcase, are you going to stay for breakfast or will you leave now?

Gauri stayed quiet...he even packed up her suitcase, he really wanted her out of the house. Gauri took a deep breath and said: let me see my daughter for one last time please.

Om: we've been through this Gauri...she is my daughter! MY DAUGHTER! You may have carried her for nine months but she is only my daughter final!

Gauri: Omkaraji, think again. Do you want our daughter....

Om interrupting: MY DAUGHTER!

Gauri: fine, do you want your daughter to grow up without her mother? Please she loves me, please reconsider your decision.

Om: I can raise my daughter without you around. Besides I told you when she was born not to get too attached to her.

Gauri: so you are not going to reconsider?

Om: NEVER!

Gauri sighed and went to Mira's nursery where Rudy and Jhanvi were looking after her. Rudy gave Mira to Gauri then the mother-son went out of the room so that the mother-daughter duo could have a few minutes alone.

Gauri looked at her daughter, knowing this was maybe the last time she would see Mira...Gauri caressed her cheeks, eyes watering up. Mira's midnight black eyes which were full of stars found Gauri and she cooed cutely...only a baby can coo a sweet sound unblemished by the hurts of life. She kissed her daughter's forehead, Mira smiled at her mother...Gauri was in love with her smile, it was so pure, so cute, everytime she saw her daughter smiling, it felt like the heavens were calling for her.

Gauri: I love you meri jaan. I loved you when you was in my womb, I love you right now and I will continue loving you forever and ever. You and your papa are my world. I want you to know that your papa isn't a bad man...he's had it tough in childhood.

She kissed her daughter's tiny hand and continued: I will always be by your side, every morning and every night, I will pray for your well being and I will also ask God to give all your bad luck to me because I want you to live your life happily like a princess. Never forget me Mira.

Mira's tiny hand grabbed Gauri's ring finger, holding it tight....it was as if she was telling her mother to stay by her side forever and ever and ever, but it was also as if Mira knew that her mother needed comfort and that she needed joy in the midst of her pain.

Gauri felt tears rolling down her cheeks. She kept Mira to her chest and whispered: normally baby girls are their daddy's little girls but are you thinking to be mummy's little girl?

Mira made some kind of sound as if she was agreeing with Gauri. Gauri smiled, and started thinking: what kind of mother would I be if I left my daughter with just her father? A child should have a father's guidance but shouldn't a child also have her mother's care and nurture? She is mine too and I am going to protect her no matter what...I grew up without a father because my adopted father died when I was 3 and even though Om had parents, they were never really there but I want our daughter to grow up with both parents who are actually there physically and emotionally. I will make sure that my daughter has both of her parents by her side whether Omkaraji likes it or not. But how?

Gauri was hugging her daughter until someone came and took Mira from her arms. She looked to see her husband who was now holding Mira.

Om: are you done spending time with my daughter? Your suitcase is at the door of the mansion so please go!

Gauri sighed...she had to think of a way to get back into her daughter's life and her husband's life. Om grabbed her wrist, bringing her downstairs. All the Oberoi members were done, tears in their eyes....they grew to love Gauri and they didn't want to let her go, they have tried everything to make Om change his mind about love and about Gauri but they were unsuccessful.

Pinky: pleases stay Gauri.

Anika: haan Gauri, please stay...we don't want you to go, we can't imagine this place without you.

They were all trying to convince Gauri to stay but Om spoke: everyone done with their emotional drama? Gauri is not allowed to stay here and that is final!

Still everyone tried to convinced Gauri, Om gave Mira to Rudy then grabbed Gauri's wrist taking her out of the house and also pushed the suitcase outside the house. Gauri looked at her daughter and Rudy then at her husband before Om closed the doors on her face.

Gauri: mummy will be back Mira, I promise you meri jaan.
