Chapter 3

Dipper P.O.V

I get in the car with my father. Mabel hugs me from the window and waves sporadically as we begin to drive away. He's going to drop me off at the bus station.

It's finally starting to set in that she is not coming with me. The very first summer we went neither of us were really excited, but we were wrong. The years only got better. The fact that Mable isn't tagging along feels weird.

I sigh and put my headphones in my ears. I sat in the backseat of the car for more room. I hate being closed in small spaces. It makes my joints hurt.

I fall asleep rather easily in the car. There's nothing worth looking at outside and my parents aren't one for conversations. It's a calm and quiet ride all the way there.

After about twenty minutes I'm dropped off at the bus station. I wait about fifteen more minutes for my bus. Not many people are headed to Gravity Falls, so the bus is pretty empty.

I sleep for a good majority of the ride. If I'm not sleeping then I'm trying to go back to sleep. It just makes time go faster. I am constantly in and out of my dream land.

Sometimes dreams are nice, but other times they are horrifying nightmares. While the adventures in Gravity Falls are outstanding and fun they can still be scary. Sometimes those kinds of things can stick around and be twisted into grotesque nightmares by the brain.

I don't have nightmares often, but every once in a while one will come along and keep me up all night. Luckily that didn't happen during the bus ride. No one in my family knows of the tortures in my dreams.

Once we reach Gravity Falls I get off of the bus and stretch. As soon as I'm off of the bus with my bag it's already leaving. The bus never did like to stay long.

I sigh and look forward to seeing the Mystery Shack. It looks roughly the same as the first summer. It never gets better but it doesn't really get worse either. It seems to stay the same through every summer. The only thing that ever really changes are the things that Grunkle Stan puts on display.

I walk into the museum of oddities and look around. There are a few new knickknacks around the place, but it all looks pretty cheesy, just like always. That's the way it's always been and that's the way it always will be.

Grunkle Stan walks out in his usual attire; a business suit that he wears around the Mystery Shack when it's actually open. When it's closed he wears nothing more than a dirty old wife-beater, some boxer shorts, and a pair of slippers.

"If it isn't Dipper!" he says.

'At least he doesn't call me "Dippy" like he did during the first summer.'

The only good thing about this summer is that I'll have it to myself basically. That is what I'm excited about.

"Hey, how about you go unpack your stuff and then after a couple days you could... You could work the register at the gift shop. Wendy is working up north this summer so I need a new employee. Besides, that will give you something to do all summer," he suggests.

'You have got to be kidding me.'
