---
The room was pitch black but Draco's eyes were fully open as he lay hearing his wife's breaths and occasional sleep talk. Her breath came in a pattern. In... Out... In... Out. Draco could feel the night air tickling his cheek with long fingers scraping along his back, earning a shiver from him. Hermione had a habit of sleeping with the window open. She said that when she got morning sickness, the coldness in the room calmed her down.
Hermione tossed and turned in her sleep at nights, waking Draco. Sometimes she even moaned and muttered although he could never hear her.
Tonight was worse and he could hear her.
She talked in her sleep when she was nervous about something. Draco knew that very well since he had shared a bed with her for about eleven weeks. She had been muttering about 'my baby' and 'doctor' for a whole hour before she stopped talking and slept, only to turn and toss after fifteen minutes.
Hermione was pregnant with Draco's child. She was eight weeks and two days pregnant. There was a small bump on her stomach which Draco always smiled at when he saw it despite the fact that he didn't want a child. He had stressed this many times to Hermione. He didn't want to share her love but he agreed on one child. Only one.
In the morning Draco and Hermione would go to a muggle doctor for their appointment. A muggle doctor wasn’t Draco’s first choice but he supposed this would keep them out of the public eye which was what he needed right now. Especially after their extravagant, and stressful, wedding.
Draco stared up at the ceiling, remembering when they broke the news to everyone. His eyes trained on a fly that had flown in through the open window and he didn’t move his gaze from the fly as he thought. Everyone was so excited and happy for them. He couldn't believe how lucky he was.
The Weasley’s (minus Ron), Harry, the Grangers and Narcissa were all in the Burrow, sitting on sofas and chairs, waiting and staring intently at Draco and Hermione, who was so nervous that she was shaking.
‘What is it?’ Narcissa asked Draco, nervously. Her motherly instincts couldn't take the suspense. Especially not after the wedding scare that had made her temporarily angry at the both of them.
Hermione glanced at Narcissa, offering her mother-in-law a small and hopeful smile. She glanced at Draco, wanting him to tell his mother the news.
‘Well,’ Draco took Hermione's hand and she beamed a smile, ‘Hermione is pregnant.’
The response to the four words was outrageous as everyone talked loudly and cheered. They congratulated them in many ways. Some patted Hermione's stomach and other's, mainly the boys, slapped Draco's back.
Harry then stood up and quietened everyone down. His hand clasped around Ginny's.
‘We have news too,’ Harry began and nodded to Ginny.
‘Harry and I got married,’ Ginny said to Hermione and Draco as everyone had already heard the news.
‘What?! Did you have a wedding?’ Hermione shrieked, hugging them both.
‘No, we did it shotgun style. We were happy with that.’ Ginny said, hugging Draco.
‘As long as you're happy.’ Hermione said, smiling. Ginny was more of a sister to her.
They all toasted the baby and new marriage, drinking into the late hours of the night. Hermione was content with a glass of juice, watching everyone celebrate the brand new news that had joined three families. Now they were closer than ever.
Draco realised he was still staring at the ceiling as the night ate him up. He also realised Hermione was silent. Slowly his grey eyes closed and he turned around, cuddling Hermione. He slept. A long, blissful sleep.
------
*Beep!*
‘What?’ Hermione murmured groggily, turning onto her side..
*Beep!*
Hermione opened one eye, her vision obstructed by a haze of brown which she realised was her hair. She raised a hand to her head, trying to tame the wild beast, and hit Draco's forehead instead, with her elbow. He winced, opening his eyes as though someone had promptly yelled in his ear.
‘A 'get up' would have been fine,’ Draco muttered, rubbing his forehead.
‘Sorry, I... Mistake.’ Hermione yawned, shoving her long hair back and away from her eyes.
Draco hit the alarm clock and went under the covers, lazy as usual, as Hermione got up. Draco watched her walk to the bathroom, peeking through a tiny opening from the covers. Her shorts were a clean white as her tank top was a dark green. She tied her hair up into a bun, making her top hitch up. He could see the small bump on her perfect, flawless stomach.
Her long legs stretched out of short shorts. Her waist still went in and her breasts were bigger from the pregnancy, an only up side so far that Draco could see.
‘Stop staring and get ready,’ Hermione said, disappearing into the bathroom.
Draco closed his eyes and fell into a slumber, letting his body shut down despite her words.
He dreamt a dream so blissfully happy that he didn't want to wake up. He dreamt that he was in the middle of a room, holding two small hands. It was a baby he was teaching to walk. The baby's chubby legs walked forward and he heard the gleeful sound she made. He could tell it was their baby girl. He saw Hermione, smiling watching them both.
‘Draco!’ someone shouted.
In the dream, Draco looked behind him a little warily. The voice shouted again, echoing off the blank walls. His hands were clutching nothing but air now.
‘Merlin,’ Hermione whispered, before shouting, ‘Draco! Get up right now! You've been sleeping for half an hour!’
Hermione's voice shouted in his ear as he frowned. Half an hour? That couldn't be right. It had hardly been seconds. Nonetheless he got up and got ready, seeing Hermione all ready. His dream faded from his mind as soon as his sleep had been disturbed.
Hermione went downstairs and got an apple, feeling hungry, settling into a chair by the fire she switched the TV on and settled for a silly cartoon show.
‘Cartoons? For yourself or the baby?’ Draco asked a few minutes later, walking into the room.
He wore a simple blue shirt and his trousers hung low on his waist. His messy hair looked as though he really had just rolled out of bed. Finishing her apple, Hermione chucked it in the bin and walked over to him. She rewarded him with a chaste kiss and smiled, trying to sort his hair.
‘We’d better go,’ Hermione took his hand and they disapparated near the medical centre.
Entering the centre was quite daunting as the dull brown walls were dimly lit with wall lamps. The seating chairs looked as though they had been there for centuries and a slightly duller shade of brown led to what looked like a male and female bathroom. Draco put his hand on the small of Hermione’s back as she talked to the receptionist.
‘Hi, um... Hermione Malfoy?’ Hermione asked the receptionist.
‘Yes, your doctor is Dr. Paton. The waiting room is to your right.’ The nurse pointed it out as though it wasn’t obvious enough.
Hermione nodded and walked into the waiting room, Draco trailing behind. They chose seats and the silence was the usual hospital slash anything medical silence. It was though everyone had swore an oath to not talk or just whisper in urgent circumstances.
‘Should've went to a wizard medical centre,’ Draco muttered as some old lady coughed near him. He shifted uncomfortably.
‘Mrs Hermione Malfoy to room six please.’
Hermione jumped but Draco took her hand to calm her down and they walked into room six. Mrs Hermione Malfoy sounded perfect to Draco’s ears and he found himself smiling as they walked. Hermione looked at him curiously.
‘Hello, Mrs Malfoy. And you must be Mr Malfoy,’ a young blonde doctor shook hands with them and gestured to the seats.
‘Please call me Draco.’
She crossed her long and bare legs. A pen stuck on her ear.
‘Well, Draco and Hermione, you are very young, if I can say so,’ Doctor Paton laughed and clicked on her computer. Draco looked at the computer curiously and wondered if she got as many young pregnant patients as middle aged ones.
‘Yes, we got married ten weeks ago and decided we want a child.’ Hermione said, the memory clear in her mind.
‘Okay, well I'm here to help. Just a few questions. Firstly, do you smoke or have you ever smoked? Both parents?’
‘Nope.’ Hermione answered.
‘Yes.’ Draco replied.
Hermione looked at him confused but he didn't meet her gaze. Dr Paton tapped on the computer.
‘Was this baby planned?’ she asked.
They replied to every question and then she got Hermione to lie on the bed. She slowly pushed her shirt up and rubbed her stomach with a cold liquid. She took a controller and swept it over her stomach, her eyes on a small screen.
‘What is it?’ Draco asked, frowning a little at the look on Doctor Paton’s face. She raised her eyebrows slightly and glanced at Hermione and then at Draco before looking back to the screen.
‘Hold on,’ she said, staring intently at the screen, ‘yes...’
‘What?’ Hermione asked, looking concerned. Was her baby okay? Would they need to go through some procedure? Was the baby even breathing?
Instead, Doctor Paton smiled and uttered one word.
‘Twins.’
‘Twins?’ Hermione and Draco exclaimed at the same time.
‘Congratulations.’ Doctor Paton smiled, letting them distinguish between the two distinct heartbeats.
Hermione looked up to Draco, her eyes telling him all he needed to know. Draco’s eyes were fixed on the screen and the word twins kept echoing in his mind.
