Chapter Eight

(11 years later)

"Hiya, Ron!" A 17 year old Haillie said hugging Ron, her curls bouncing around her waist.

"Hi guys! Happy birthday!" Ron said, holding out two presents.

Haillie and Dray took one, their faces the image of joy, and opened them. Haillie got a book series she's been wanting and Dray got aftershave.

"Thanks, Ron." Dray said, grinning.

"No problem! Where's your mum?" Ron asked, mussing up Haillie's hair.

"In the study room. She's upset." Haillie said, smoothing out her long brown curls.

"She's always upset and moans. She's so freaking annoying." Dray said although he said a much rude word than "freaking."

"Dray, don't swear." Haillie frowned, sounding just as bossy as her mother.

"It's true. She's so annoying." Dray rolled his eyes and went upstairs.

"Teenagers." Haillie said, shrugging.

Haillie had always been the mature and sensible girl. She didn't swear, she obeyed her mother and she behaved in Hogwarts although sometimes Haillie would argue with her mother. Dray, on the other hand, lied and swore. Constantly fought with his mother and had a bad group of friends.

Ron smiled briefly before moving to the study. He opened the door slightly and saw Hermione sitting on a chair and staring out of the window.

"Hey, babe." Ron whispered to Hermione, "Were you thinking about me?"

"Mmm..." Hermione said, not turning around.

Her mind, obviously, had not been on Ron. It had been eleven long years since... He left. Eleven. Long. Boring. Unsatisfying. Cruel. Years. She felt older and looked a little bit older, gaining a few grey hairs here and there but she was as pretty as always.

"So, the party for them tonight, who's coming?" Ron asked.

Hermione continued staring outside the window. Only one thought in her mind.

"Is he coming?" Ron asked, "Malfoy."

"I haven't talked to him." Hermione replied in a monotone.

She had tried to contact him in any way possible, even talking to Pansy who just laughed in her face but she had no idea where Draco is. Sometime after four years she stopped looking for him. She felt herself get lonelier and depressed but she had Ron with her.

Ron talked about something else. The subject of Draco dropped.

Upstairs Haillie was walking out of her room when she saw her mothers door open and the light on. Creeping slowly towards the door she saw Dray, his back to her. He wad holding up a wand lighting it on something.

Haillie moved closer and saw what it was. A picture of a man and woman at a beach. The man had light blonde hair and stomry grey eyes, like Haillie's. The woman was Hermione. They looked so happy and in love. It was in unbelievable that they had split up.

Haillie and Dray both remembered their father.

"Dad." Haillie whispered, her grey eyes fixed on the photo.

Dray jumped and looked behind him, frowning at Haillie.

"I miss him." Haillie whispered.

"I hate him. He's the one who made Mum so depressed." Dray said coldly.

"Don't say that. It's not his fault." Haillie said a frown appearing on her face.

"Freaking deserves to die and rot away into the soil." Dray said, coldly and sneering.

With a flick of his wand the photo raised into the air and stayed there. Dray said a spell and the photo slowly burned away. Dray walked out, leaving Haillie to stop the burning.

"Augumenti." She whispered.

The photo stopped burning. She held it in her small hands.

Hermione's face was burned out and Draco was smiling in the picture.

------

"You're not wearing that. You look a disgrace." Dray said, eyeing Haillie up and down.

Haillie wore a dress up to her mid thighs. It was green and white. She wore white heels and green earrings.

"It's just family that's going to see me." Haillie said, frowning and looking at Dray who lay on her bed.

"Didn't I tell you?" Dray asked, Haillie looked confused, he continued, "We are going to Ally's. She's throwing us a party. Wear something better."

"I'm not going to her house and you're not going either!" Haillie said shaking her head, "and I'm wearing these clothes so-"

"We are going to that party." Dray said getting up, "I think Max will be there."

Dray raised one eyebrow and walked out of her room. Haillie blushed a red colour. Max was her crush. He had long black hair that fell into his eyes, he wore glasses and had brown eyes. He wasn't the most popular at Hogwarts but Haillie liked him a lot.

She decided to stick with her clothes. Grabbing her bag, she walked downstairs, her heels felt weird because she wasn't used to wearing them.

"Dray! Come on! Mum! Da-" Haillie stopped short.

She was about to say 'Dad' the word she hadn't said much. No one talked about Dad. When Haillie was fifteen, she knew Hermione was depressed. Haillie asked Hermione about her father but Hermione got angry at her, shouting rude things about him.

Haillie knew she was hurt. Of course, she didn't know what had happened but she knew no matter what Hermione said of Draco, she knew Hermione loved Draco more than anything.

More than life itself.

Haillie remembered when Hermione had nearly swallowed the pills. All of them. Ron got her too the hospital just in time. She woke up saying 'Draco.'

"Ready darling? You look great." Hermione said, coming down the stairs, Dray behind her.

"Are you crying?!" Dray said, passing his mother and getting to Haillie.

Dray touched Haillie's cheek, wiping the tears away. Dray sometimes, less often than before, showed his considerable side. He really loved his family except Draco.

"What's wrong?" Hermione asked, hugging her daughter.

"Where is Dad?" Haillie asked, wiping away her tears.

Hermione pulled back, her concerned face turning hard. Dray scowled and muttered something about his father not being worth Haillie's tears.

"Don't you think you're old enough to live without him! Stop acting like a child." Hermione said, scowling like Dray.

Dray took Haillie's hand and his mothers. He apparated to the Burrow. It looked great. Balloons decorated the place, they were enchanted to say 'Haillie' or 'Dray'. There was a huge tent up and a huge table lined up.

"Hi!" Mrs Weasley grinned, hugging Hermione and Haillie and Dray.

They hugged her back and went inside. Everyone was sitting in the living room, chatting.

Harry, Ginny, Albus, James, Lily, Teddy, Ron, George, Percy, Mrs and Mrs Granger and Mrs and Mrs Weasley.

"Happy Birthday!" They all yelled seeing Haillie and Dray.

Both were engulfed in hugs and presents and well wishes. They talked for a while. Haillie talked to Teddy who was older than her but he was really funny. His hair changed colour, red to purple to brown to blonde. He left it at blonde.

"I'm starving!" Ron exclaimed.

Mrs Weasley smiled motherly at him and told everyone to follow her outside. She had laid a huge feast out for them. Chicken, pasta, lasagne and lots of dessert.

They sat down to eat, chatting into the evening. Haillie wasn't so hungry but ate anyway when her mother frowned at her. After food a huge cake was flown into the room and landed in front of Dray and Haillie.

There was a chorus of Happy Birthday and Haillie and Dray blew the candles out. They had a piece of cake, praising it and with a flick of Mrs Weasleys wand the mess was cleared up.

Everyone moved to the living room but Haillie stayed outside. She sat on a rock in the middle of the field, a sudden urge to cry overwhelmed her. A tear slid down her smooth cheek. Soon she had her face in her hands and was crying.

Whoosh!

She looked up when she heard the sound. The darkness and night air was eerily quiet. A few stars in the night sky shone and the moon was out.

Standing up, Haillie, took her wand out and looked around. Her eyes widened when she heard a rustle.

"Stop!" She yelled.

The rustling stopped and once again it was so quiet that Haillie felt like someone would creep up to her.

"Haillie." A whisper said.

"Who... Who is it?" Haillie asked, her voice quiet.

Suddenly a figure came out to the right side of her and Haillie projected the light from her wand on the figure. The man.

He had blonde hair and grey eyes. He was tall and slender.

"Haillie, you won't know who I am but-" The man said, walking closer.

"Dad?" Haillie asked, her eyes widening.

"You remember me?" Draco Malfoy asked, smiling slightly.

"Dad! I've missed you so much!" Haillie said, running forwards to hug him.

She smelt him, wanting to keep the memory of him with her all the time. Apples. Green apples is what he smelt like.

"Haillie, I love you so much. Remember that." Draco said, unable to stop stroking her hair which felt and looked like Hermione's.

"Dad, don't leave me... It feels great to call someone Dad! Mum... Mum is inside, Dad. Come." Haillie pulled his arm but Draco didn't move.

"I can't see her. Is she happy? Is she with Ron? Is she married to him?" Draco asked, "Does she talk about me?"

"She's so upset, she... She isn't married to Ron but he wants to get married. Dad, she loves you. She nearly gave up her life for you!" Haillie said.

"What?! Is she-" Draco looked alarmed.

"She's fine but she needs you."

"I... Haillie, do you still go to school?" Draco asked, changing the subject.

"I left in December. I don't go anymore." Haillie said.

"Why did you leave?"

"Mum needed me and I really had all of my qualifications... Wait... Where have you been?" Haillie asked, frowning.

"I've been away... I wish I could see you often but believe me I tried any chance I could get to see you." Draco said, "I haven't seen your mother."

"Please, Dad. Please come in-"

"Haillie, darling, I love you so much and I wish I was with you when you grew up and I'm so sorry I wasn't. Happy birthday. I got you a present I really have to go now but I'll see you soon." Draco said, hugging her and handing her the present.

"I'll send you a post." Haillie said, not wanting to let go of her father.

"Don't tell anyone you saw me." Draco said, moving back, "We'll se each other soon. Bye."

"Wait-" Haillie said but too late.

Draco vanished, disapparating, the only thing Haillie could see was darkness.

------

After a hasty and heated conversation with Dray, Haillie telling him she's tired and not going to the party, Dray arguing, Haillie finally got home with her Mother and Ron.

"Mum." Haillie whispered.

Hermione and Ron both looked at her. Haillie widened her eyes at her mother and nodded to Ron. Hermione got the private message and told Ron to go inside.

"Ah! Girl stuff?" Ron asked, winking.

"Dad stuff," muttered Haillie but they never heard her.

Ron leaned down to kiss Hermione and Haillie scowled thinking of her father. Only Draco should be allowed to touch Hermione.

"She'll be there in a minute." Haillie said, pushing Ron inside.

Closing the front door, she sat on a swinging hammock and Hermione sat beside her, looking at her curiously.

"Mum," Haillie began, "I need to talk to you about something but promise me you wont get angry?"

Hermione raised her eyebrows at her.

"No promises but you know you can tell me anything." Hermione patted Haillie's hand softly.

"I need to talk about Dad. I don't have another sibling to talk to and Dray won't say anything about him. Please. I need to talk about him. Don't get angry." Haillie said, nervousness made her talk really fast.

Hermione stared at her and then looked up at the stars.

"You're dad left you when you were six. He doesn't care about you. I care. Ron cares. There's really nothing to talk about." Hermione stated boldly.

"How did you meet him?" Haillie asked.

"Darling, I really don't want to talk about him." Hermione tried not to lose control, she would either cry or get really angry.

"You love him so much don't you?" Haillie asked reading Hermione like a book.

"I don't." Hermione looked straight ahead, a muscle twitched in her jaw.

"If you didn't love him, you would have forgotten him. Mum, you need to talk about this. Please. Talk to me." Haillie said.

Hermione waited for a moment before sighing loudly. She looked down at the ground and saw flowers growing in her front yard. She remembered HIM bringing her here for the first time. He had carried her in and showed her the house...

"We met at Hogwarts." Hermione finally managed to form the words.

"Was it love at first sight?" Haillie asked.

"No... It wasn't. We were enemies at first... He told me that he started liking me in our seventh year. We became prefects together, shared a common room and I fell in love." Hermione looked at Haillie, "We got married, had two beautiful kids and... He left."

"Why did he leave?" Haillie whispered.

"He didn't love me or you or Dray. He didn't care if I lived or died. He never even bothered to send me some sort of message!" Hermione suddenly got up, wiping away a lonesome tear, "Haillie. I need to tell you something... I'm going to marry Ron."

"Mum. He loves you so much! You can't marry him!" Haillie stood up, anger flaring on her face.

"I'm not asking your permission. I'm your mother and you are my daughter. Not the other way around." Hermione said as Haillie glared at her.

"MOTHER? You. Are. Not. My. Mother." Haillie said enunciating every word, "And if you think you can just marry Ron without telling Dad-"

Haillie stopped short as Hermione slapped her on the face. Haillie held her cheek, which had gone red, and glared at Hermione harder and angrier.

"He is not your Father. He hates you and me! I am marrying Ron whether you like it or not." Hermione said and turned around.

She walked into the house and slammed the door behind her. Haillie fell onto the hammock, rubbing her red cheek, tears emerged from the prisons of her grey eyes.

For a few moments she cried so much. Hermione had never hit her daughter before but Haillie had never really spoken back to Hermione.

Haillie wiped her tears away and opened the bag next to her, picking up the present her father had given her. She read the card.

"Haillie,

I've been imaging how grown up and beautiful you must look. Just like your mum. I bet Dray is just like me.

I don't know if you're mother has talked about me but I am your father and I love you very much.

I'm sorry I haven't been around lately. It's best if your mother forgets me and moves on.

It feels like I failed at being your father. You probably hate me. I wouldn't blame you.

Haillie, if you do want to see me again send me a message and we'll meet up and if I don't get the message, I'll understand.

I love you.

D.M xxx"

The letter was wrote in neat writing, quite like Haillie's and also it was tear stained. Haillie could feel the tears pricking her eye, waiting to be let out, and her heart felt heavy.

She opened the present to reveal a picture of Draco, Hermione and two small baby's. It was so cute and they looked so happy.

Another picture was of Draco and Haillie when she was four. Draco was lying in the sofa and Haillie was curled up beside him, holding a small barbie.

Draco had also gifted her a small bracelet with Haillie written in little blocks. It was plain but beautiful.

Her first present from her father.

Haillie put the letter in her bag and went inside. She went into the kitchen and got a glass of water. Drinking the water, she couldn't help but stare at her bracelet.

She was about to go upstairs when she heard Ron and Hermione in the living room. Peeking in, she saw that both of them were making out on the sofa.

Resisting the urge to be sick, Haillie went upstairs and got a piece of parchment and wrote.

"Daddy,

Thank you for the presents. I love you so much and need to see you. Please send a letter back soon or call my mobile at ........

Haillie Malfoy"

Sending the message away, after checking her mobile number, with Dray's owl, she got changed and climbed into bed.

She couldn't sleep. Thoughts took up her mind. After a few minutes the door creaked open and Haillie shut her eyes.

"Haillie?" Hermione whisper.

No answer.

"She's asleep." Hermione whispered to Ron.

"Come on." Ron said.

A giggle escaped Hermione's mouth and she closed the door. A few seconds later another door closed. Hermione's room.
