Chapter 20 Broken Promise?

"Omkara...The doctors said she is still unconscious." Jhanvi paled and looked at her Hands covered with Gauri's blood. They were standing outside the room since they were not allowed to see her yet. The doctors were still running some test on her, especially because of her pregnancy and the fall she took when pushed by Tej.

"She will be fine...She has promised to be."

Jhanvi looked at her son and nodded. She knew he was trying to believe in Gauri's words; was trying to stay strong for her sake. She didn't know how he still managed to breath with the constant fear of his Wife being hurt badly. Jhanvi stood up and walked to the Lady's Room. She felt Guilty for letting the situation going out of hand like this. Om had asked her to protect Gauri and she had failed. Slowly she opened the water tab and started soaping her hands, trying to erase the memories of Gauri lying unconsciously on the floor bleeding from her head.

I am so sorry..." She whispered and broke into tears. She felt responsible for everything that had happened today. How could she ever look her Son and Daughter in Law in the eyes again? How could she try to live with the fact that she was the cause of her getting hurt?

"Mom?" Anika entered the Lady's room and saw her mother sitting on the floor; crying silently. She sat down beside her and held her Hand.

"Oh Anika..." Jhanvi hugged her eldest daughter and let her tears flow out. She had badly missed her Daughter and to be reunited because of such an unpleasant occasion made Jhanvi cry even more.

"Mom, Gauri will be alright Stop crying. It is not your fault. "Anika tried her best to pacify her mother but she herself was fighting with the tears. She had never seen Gauri like that: pale, with blood all over her face. Her petite figure looked so odd lying on that cold hospital bed.

In all the Time she had known Gauri she had never looked so fragile.

"It is somehow my fault Anika...Wouldn't I have allowed her to execute her plan she wouldn't be hurt...Her Baby wouldn't be in danger, she wouldn't be in danger."

"Mom.. But then Dad would have beaten you to death. It was meant to end this way. You can't give up hope now...We have to be strong for Gauri, for Om and her child. "

Jhanvi looked at her daughter and realized she had really grown up She wasn't the scared little girl anymore she used to be while being married to Daksh. Ever since she had been with Shivaay she had been a lot braver and calmer than ever. She seemed very happy, especially since she was raising her daughter with him. To see Anika that happy made Jhanvi even happier.

Anika kissed her Mother's cheek. "Come let's check on Omkara. He needs us the most right know. We have to support him with all our might."

Jhanvi and Anika stood up and walked out the washroom. Both tried to hide their tears and slowly walked back to Omkara to give him the much needed support and comfort.

Meanwhile at the same time...

"Are you Mr. Oberoi?"

Omkara turned to the unfamiliar voice and looked at a middle aged lady doctor. She was small and had a soft smile on her wife.

"Yes I am." He answered; already scared of her next words.

"I am Dr. Singh is Mrs. Gauri Omkara Singh Oberoi your wife? " She asked and He nodded. His hands were trembling; waiting for her to say what would either kill him or make him the happiest man alive.

"Would you mind coming with me for a second? It is about your wife's condition. "

"Sure." He followed the doctor to her office and sat down on the place given to him.

"the short young lady is your wife? Am I correct? She was brought in with a wound on her Head after a hard fall?"

"Yes." The answer was short, Omkara was almost afraid to know more. He prayed with his entire being for the well-being of his wife and child. He couldn't forgive himself if anything would happen to both of them due his failure of taking proper care.

"She is conscious now." He released the pent up breath. "She has had a bad shock she has a laceration but she wasn't hurt badly. Just a few bruises that's all." The doctor hesitated yet again. Why? What was her reason for not telling him directly what the matter was?

"Your wife is in the last trimester of her pregnancy. We are not sure about the baby yet. We are running some tests since she fell on her abdomen causing the baby to get hurt. After the Tests we can say more." Omkara clenched his hands on the chair. He was too scared to ask what went through his mind but he had to.

"What could happen if the baby was harmed badly? "

"Well it could happen that the child would be deaf or blind. Maybe even handicapped mentally or physically. We are not sure yet but you will know soon. "Dr. Singh tried to prepare him for any possibility. She was afraid he would break down in front of his wife, causing her more stress. That is why she had decided to speak to him in private first.

"Can I see my wife?" Omkara's voice sounded alien even to his own ears. That was a lot to process but he knew in his heart he would love their daughter no matter what.

"Not yet. She's undergoing an ultrasound at the moment. After the tests are over you can see her. She was unconscious when she was brought in. We'd like to confirm she does not suffer from concussion or any internal bleeding. In a few minutes you should be able to see her but be aware don't mention anything about the Baby yet. Also she needs to stay here for another few days. She needs to stay in Bed for the rest of her pregnancy because she almost had the Baby but it was too dangerous so we are lucky that the water did not break, though the baby definitely will be coming soon."

Omkara thanked her and let the doctor's cabin. His throat felt completely dry. How could he look into his wife's eyes and tell her what the doctor had told him? How could he face his Family? How could he tell his Wife that their child could possibly be hurt? Gauri would blame herself, she would be devastated to know that she caused their baby pain.

"Om? Rudra approached his brother and opened his arms to embrace his broken brother. Without Gauri he was lost. Nothing made a sense.

"I am the worst husband and the worst father to be. My wife is fine but my child is in danger only because of that stupid ass I called my father. "He closed his eyes and hugged his brother harder. He needed support; someone who would understand him. Someone who he could share his pain with. Normally he would have loved to go to his Ri but for once he had to hide his pain, he had to hide everything so she wouldn't be in pain.

"Omkara they will be fine. Both of them. Never ever stop believing. We are with you and Dad won't come near us or her ever again. We will take care of that. I am just shocked that he went to that extend. I always knew he was a very angry man and that mom wasn't happy but I never knew he was beating her...I believed it when he said she fell or she didn't take proper care of herself. We both weren't noticing all this. We believed him blindly but that changed. From now on it will be us only okay? Omkara and Rudra against the world! "

Om smiled at his brother and nodded.

"The world should better prepare! He added and Rudra laughed. They went back to their family members and updated them on Gauri and her condition. Anika walked over to her Brother's and gave both of them a hug. Ever since her wedding she hadn't had time to visit them.

"Are you okay? Omkara asked her and caressed her face. Anika nodded with a smile and happy tears. "I am. Shivaay is the greatest thing that happened to me. He loves me and I love him.

Rudra and Omkara looked at each other with a smile.

"Then we are happy too. You are our Sister and we love you. Rudra said and the three embraced each other once more.

Anika took both of their Hands.

"She will be fine. She is our Dabang Gauri. Omkara smiled at his Sister's Words and then they waited.

It felt like Hours went by when Dr. Singh finally came back; a smile adorning her pretty face. The Happiness in her eyes made everyone excited and hopeful.

"Mr.Oberoi you can see your wife now. She is in Room 231 but please be quiet while entering and don't let her be stressed okay? ". She turned to leave but he stopped her. If she would have been younger and unmarried she would have definitely been blushing right now, Dr. Singh thought and giggled before turning to face Omkara.

"What about my Baby? You said you were running some tests on my daughter. Is she alright?"

Dr. Singh raised her hand and looked through the files she was carrying and then again at Omkara. Poor Boy looked so scared. Should she tease him? No that would be too mean. Also she was a doctor she couldn't tease patients like that.

"Your child is totally fine and healthy. We checked her reports twice. Though it seems like your Baby may will have some trouble during childbirth. " She said after rereading the diagnose.

"Why?" Omkara asked, looking at his Family.

"Well when your Wife fell, she fell on her abdomen causing the baby to turn and the umbilical is tingled around the neck so we have to be extra careful. Maybe we even have to do an abdominal delivery. Well there are still 3 Month to go so we have to check Gauri every week to ensure the baby won't strangle itself. "She explained to the family members who were listening shocked to her words.

Jhanvi closed her eyes and Anika held her; fearing she would faint.

"What about my Wife? Could she too be harmed that way? "

"Well..." Dr. Singh began "Every pregnancy has its difficulties but I am sure Mrs.Oberoi will be alright. I know that her bone structure and her narrow pelvis could be a problem but I will do my best.

"Okay thank you doctor. Is she conscious? "Rudra said and all of them started walking towards Gauri's room.

"Haan she is. And she has been asking for you Mrs. Oberoi and for you Mr. Oberoi. She was a bit confused and scared but we managed to calm her down. Please don't stay in too long she needs rest. "They entered the Room and saw a pale looking Gauri sitting on the Bed; eating some hot soup.

"Ri..."Omkara managed to croak out and he strode towards her in two long steps. He gathered her to himself in a bone crushing hug and kissed her passionately. Gauri met his kiss with a kiss and blushed when she realized they were being watched. She pushed him away and greeted her other family members. Of course her husband had to embarrass her like that in front of everyone.

"So...Is it over now? " She asked looking at Jhanvi; caressing her swollen abdomen. She was glad to know that her baby was fine, that they were safe now." Jhanvi nodded.

"It is over. " She looked at her Son when he was about to open his mouth about Tej's threat. No need to look for a problem where there wasn't one yet.

"Good. I am so sorry for troubling you always. I thought he wouldn't hurt me...I thought you could arrive before he would push me...Om I fell and felt that my daughter was hurt... I thought she felt my pain and felt miserable to know that I let her be in danger. I am so sorry Please forgive me for my silliness. I will never ever do anything like that again. Our Baby is my life, I won't ever put her in danger again." Gauri took Omkara's Hand in hers and cried silently. A smile tugged at his lips and he wiped away the tears. He had predicted her reaction so he knew exactly what he had to say.

"Our daughter will always be save. We are here Hain na? The doctor just told me. She is alright, she is healthy. Nothing will happen to her. I can't wait to hold her in my arms."

Gauri smiled and so did all the others. Anika sat beside her and kissed both her cheeks.

"Get well soon Gauri else I will be angry with you Okay?" She said smiling and Bhavya joined her saying if she would not get well soon she would have to kill her. Rudra smiled seeing his wife finally being the way he always wanted her to be: kind, sweet and nice to Gauri and to the other family members.

Jhanvi smiled seeing her Family bonding again; it felt like she could finally breathe. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes; enjoying the feeling of freedom. They were officially free, they were happy. Gauri was safe. It felt like a Dream finally came true.

"I promise I will be fine soon. Maji...Are you feeling alright? "Gauri studied her mother in laws face and a smile adorned her face.

"Haan I am so happy dear. Happy and Grateful: Finally I am free, I am happy truly. My Family, I GOT MY Family back and you are save. What else could I possible want from life?" Jhanvi smiled despite her tears and Omkara, Rudra and Anika hugged their Mother tightly.

"You will never be alone, no one will hurt you again we are standing by your side; always and forever." Rudra said and kissed her forehead. They stood like that for a few Moments until Jhanvi asked Bhavya to join them. Gauri tried to stand up but was stopped by the entire family.

"You are not allowed to stand up for at least 2 more hours. " Omkara lied; to afraid she could slip or something else causing his Wife to pout and sit down again. Gauri was silently cursing her fate for snatching away the chance of a family group hug. Everyone smiled on hearing her.

They talked a little when Rudra and Bhavya excused themselves and asked if it was okay if they would return home since Kavya could be home any minute. Omkara offered to drive them but Rudra said that he would manage. They left and quite soon after that Shivaay entered, asking about his favorite cousin Gauri and left with Anika since their daughter was crying for her mother. Anika apologized for leaving already but Gauri stopped her. They hugged each other before Anika left for her Sasural. Omkara looked at his tiny wife and caressed her cheek.

"I Love you. Never ever leave me alone again." He said while placing soft kisses all over her face. Gauri blushed and her eyes darted away; she was aware of her mother in law smiling at their romance.

"Om...Behave..."She whispered and withdrew herself from him. Omkara understood and said he would get some hot tea and something to eat from the canteen. His mother stopped him and told him she would go.

"No Mom I will go. You need to rest to. "

"Omkara! I am your mother you better should start listening to me. Stay with your wife, I will manage. I will call the driver to take me home and I will cook something for you. Maybe I will change too. That means you have at least two hour to yourselves but be cautious. Gauri is still hurt. "Jhanvi smirked and left the room after kissing Gauri on the Head.

"See you soon."

Gauri nodded and asked Omkara to come lay down beside her. The minute his back touched the bed she started kissing him passionately. He kissed her back and pulled her on his lap. It was a funny position with Gauri's abdomen in the way. He kissed her jawline, her throat and began nuzzling on her cleavage. Gauri closed her eyes and enjoyed the warmth that invaded her entire body. Every time they experienced hurt or pain they needed some moments alone to remind each other physically that they were save, that they were together.

"Never scare me like that again please. " He whispered into her hair and kissed her ear. She nodded and he pulled her beside him causing her to look at him surprised. Omkara smiled at her face and tried his best to explain. Leave it to his wife to be turned on after a life threating situation. He was still not sure whether she was really okay or if he was dreaming or not.

"Sleep for now. We have time, we have all the time in the World to love, to be loved, to be happy. You need to get well soon you know I love you so much but seeing you lying on the floor killed me. I was shaking, I thought we lost our baby or that I lost you. In that Moment it felt like something inside of me died-"Gauri stopped him from talking further.

"You will never lose me. I will never leave you Omkara. When will you start believing me? I won't go anywhere. We are safe now...We gave our Daughter a home in which she will be respected, treated kindly. She will be loved by her Parents, her Family. She will be proud to be a girl. Your Father is behind the bars and he will never ever hurt us again." She took his hand and placed it on her abdomen, "Your Daughter and I are safe. We will always be save as long as we have you."

Both smiled at each other until Omkara remembered his Fathers threat.

Yes, they were safe for now but for how long?
