TWELVE. can i have this dance?

SHILOH WOKE up early that morning. It wasn't for anything special, but she was stressed. After camp prom it would be the musical that could change all their lives and that type of pressure was something that she had experienced. But this was a new level of pressure.

She was the lead. She's never acted before and didn't even know what the wing of the stage was until Jenna explained it to her.

She didn't want to bother Ricky this early in the morning, so she hopped off her bunk, put on some beat up Converse, a hoodie she stole from Ricky, and left the cabin.

She grabbed a nearby soccer ball and made a makeshift net and began kicking the ball.

Shiloh had been playing soccer for years and couldn't tryout of the team with everything happening during the school year before. She'd be lucky if she could even tryout her last year.

This was one of her stress relievers. She found peace in kicking the soccer ball with however much force and knocking people to their feet with no repercussions whatsoever.

What she hadn't know was that Ricky had also been up early. His birthday was tomorrow and he had to finish his bucket list.

He held his bucket list in his hands as he marched to his destination, but paused when he caught sight of his girlfriend kicking a soccer ball against the wall.

Ricky watched with furrowed brows and admiration. He knew she'd played soccer, it was something she was also passionate about. Something that the internet couldn't take from her.

"You know" Ricky quickly turned and saw Dylan approaching, "she always hated when she missed a goal. It would piss her off so bad it was insane. It was almost funny."

Ricky only nodded and the two of them continued to watch the girl.

"I always called her SIM and it would make her so mad." Dylan chuckled, "But it got her to make goals, so I think I was helping in some way."

"SIM?" Ricky questioned.

"Yeah, like the video game. The Sims. She hates that. Watch." Dylan cupped his hands over his mouth, "Nice shot, SIM!"

Shiloh stopped the ball with her foot and turned slightly as she heard the damning nickname. She rolled her eyes and kicked the soccer ball into her hands.

She jogged over to the two boys, "Don't teach him things he doesn't need to know." She huffed.

Ricky smiled, pulling Shiloh close and kissing the top of her now very sweaty head.

He was still on the fence about Dylan, but he hadn't made any moves towards Shiloh. Truly, that didn't matter.

Shiloh smiled, "Are you guys excited for prom?"

"Yes, another dance where sweaty people are surrounding me with sweat." Dylan chuckled.

"And I have to finish my bucket list." Ricky smiled.

"Well," Shiloh said, stepping away from Ricky, "I'm excited. This is one of my last days to be stress free and prom is going to make me feel ten times better for everything tomorrow." She faced Ricky, "Plus your birthday!"

"Your birthday?" Dylan questioned.

Ricky nodded, "Eighteen."

Shiloh pushed Dylan's shoulder, "Help him finish his bucket list."

"I don't think that's necessary-" Ricky started.

"Come on! It's one of the last days you two will probably ever see each other anyway." She smiled, "Do all the gross bucket list things and celebrate tonight with me at prom."

Ricky looked over at Dylan who only shrugged his shoulders, not many thoughts behind those eyes.

"Fine." Ricky sighed, "You get all girly or whatever and we'll work on my bucket list."

Shiloh smiled bright, placing a quick kiss on his lips, "Have fun."

She left the duo alone and headed back into her cabin.

After a couple of hours, everyone decided to get ready for prom.

"Okay, I am very hyped for this dance tonight, but someone needs to explain to me why we're doing a vintage theme for camp prom." Ashlyn said.

"Probably something about Susan Fine's birthday. Or her death... maybe both." Shiloh answered, tying the knot in her shirt.

"Definitely one of those two."

Maddox smiled, "Honestly, I've never known."

"Look, any camp tradition that doesn't involve climbing a wall is good by me." Kourtney smiled.

"Hey, Shiloh?" Victoria called, "Can you tie this for me?"

Shiloh stepped away from the mirror. Her outfit held various green colors and a wavy pattern, a green top tied in the front with a knot, and matching, thin, bell bottoms. Her white boot hitting the floor. She had a matching headband wrapped around her head and various jewelry attached to her.

Victoria held the fabric in her hands and handed to Shiloh, "Can we talk later?"

"For sure." Shiloh answered, "Do you want to talk now?"

"No... I think I need to talk to G before anything too crazy happens."

Shiloh held slightly furrowed brows and tied the knot in Tori's outfit.

"Honestly, Ash, I think your cousin's gonna spend the night without me as his date, realize he's kind of been ignoring me for a week and a half, and I don't know." Gina chuckled, "He promised he'd save the last dance for me, so..."

Jenna held a cheesy smile and faced the others, "Tonight's gonna end with a bang. I can see it now. Happy romance galore."

"In one way or another, it always does." Maddox said.

There was soon a knock on the door and Jet allowed himself inside, "Excuse me. Maddie, can we talk? Alone?"

Which the group gladly gave them. They hadn't bothered to return to the cabin once they left either.

Nightfall soon fell upon the camp and that only meant that camp prom was underway.

Shiloh had been standing outside with the club as Ashley paced back and forth, debating on whether or not to change her outfit last minute.

"You look fine, Ash." Madison reassured.

"Okay... what if someone spills punch on me or I spill it on myself? Then what?"

"We'd get you a new outfit?" Evie said, "Come on, you're freaking out over nothing. We're supposed to be having fun before everything blows up in our faces tomorrow."

"Nothing is going to blow up in our faces." Shiloh reassured, "We're gonna have a good, amazing time and we're gonna have one of the best summer nights of our lives."

Shiloh was being optimistic and she was going to make this a carefree night and she would leave this prom feeling like she just got off cloud nine.

"It's just... it's our last summer as a club." Ashley said, "Senior year is one of the most important years of our lives. Who knows what's going to happen when we graduate."

"We celebrate." Shiloh smiled, "And we continue to celebrate until we go our ways. No matter if it's together or somewhere far away. Tonight is about the fun we're going to have tonight. Focus on that."

Shiloh held Ashley hands and the club made their way into the barn.

Flashing, colorful lights beamed around the barn and people dancing around around the area.

By the drinks, Ricky, Carlos, EJ, and Dylan stood and watched in awe... lust? As they club and the others followed into the barn.

"Hello boys." Gina smiled.

Shiloh glanced over at Ricky, "Hey, you okay?"

"Yeah. It's just polyester. Am I right?" Ricky said, pulling the collar of his shirt.

"Ooh! The photo wall is lit." Ashlyn said, "Come on!"

As the others followed behind Ashlyn, someone caught Shiloh's arm, stopping her.

"Hey, we really need some Love Club advice right now."

Shiloh glanced back and looked over at Ricky, "Um, can it wait two minutes?"

"Not really."

Shiloh sighed and followed behind the girl. It was just one stop in her night. Nothing too major. It was typical that people would need some Love Club help during things like this. It happened at homecoming so it didn't shock her that it would happen her. This was just one stop.

Except it wasn't just one stop. It became multiple stops and saying no was something she couldn't find herself saying.

She finally caught a break and found Ricky, Gina, Victoria, EJ, and Kourtney standing close by.

She sighed with content and smiled, making her way towards her friends.

"Ricky Bowen," She smiled, "can I have this dance?"

Ricky smiled, taking her hand and spinning her around, "Of course."

"Hey, Shiloh."

She closed her eyes for a moment and turned, "Yes?"

"Um... is this a bad time?"

"No, not at all."

"Great." The boy said, taking her hand and pulling her away from the others, "You will not believe what these two are going through right now it's insane."

What was insane was that Shiloh hadn't done anything she wanted this entire dance and she wanted no repeats of what happened at homecoming. You know, her leaving and crying in the club room. She didn't want that. She wanted to have a good time with her friends and her boyfriend before the show tomorrow.

Expect she couldn't have a good time because by the time she'd returned the prom had been over.

She flutter her eyes shut and chuckled as she stood on that stage with an almost vacant crowd having conversations of their own.

Shiloh felt tears coming. She didn't want to cry, but this was supposed to be her night. She wanted to have fun that's all she wanted this entire summer and just like that it was wasted.

She left the stage, going towards the exit and Ricky caught her sight, "Hey, Shiloh."

She didn't stop so he followed behind her, catching her at the coat rack.

"Hey, is everything okay?" He asked.

"Totally." She said, not facing him, "Everything is totally cool. Just Shiloh Molina's luck that the guy is checking on her at the dance isn't it? Just like homecoming, huh?"

Ricky furrowed his brows. Homecoming. He found her crying in that club room alone.

She finally turned, her eyes beamed red and tears running down her face. She accidentally dropped her belongings on the ground and that small thing had been her breaking point.

Shiloh and Ricky bent down at the same time to pick the miscellaneous items up.

"Hey. Hey, what's the..." Ricky softly spoke, "It's okay. I got that. It's okay."

Ricky glanced up and saw the how visibly upset she was.

"Hey, Shiloh, baby." He paused, "Hey, look at me."

She sniffled and glanced up at him, tears rolling down her face.

She wasn't fully sobbing at this point, but she was close to it. She immediately looked back down and Ricky sat the two of them on the ground. Her head now resting in the crook of his neck.

She just wanted one normal night. The night where she wasn't just the Love Club girl. She wanted a night where she could laugh and let lose with her friends, but she instead found herself running back and forth doing Love Club things and it brought her down immensely. She didn't hate the Love Club it was the exact opposite, she just wanted a moment.

"Folks, this a general reminder about PDA, and the reminder is don't." Dewey said into the microphone.

Shiloh quickly stood to her feet, grabbing her things form Ricky's hands and left his side and the barn.

"Shiloh." Ricky called, but she didn't stop.

"Hey, man. Everything good in Ricky and Shiloh's world?" Dylan asked.

"I don't know dude." Ricky sighed, "She just didn't get the night she wanted I think."

Dylan nodded, "What are you gonna do about it?"

Ricky paused. He looked around the room and his eyes locked with the CD player in the corner. Ricky furrowed his brows, "Can you help me with something?"

SHILOH WIPED her face and found herself sitting by pool. The light from the pool lighting her face.

"Hey, I finally found you." Victoria called. She took a seat next to Shiloh and saw the state she'd been in, "What's wrong?"

Shiloh gently shook her head, "I just wish tonight ended a little differently. I seem to cry every dance so I shouldn't be surprised."

Shiloh had always been the one to comfort someone. She didn't want to receive it half the time.

Victoria held a faint smile and held Shiloh's hand, "Tonight's not over."

"I think it is." She said, gently squeezing her hand, "Do you want to talk now?"

"Do you want to talk?" Victoria asked.

"I rather talk about your things than my night."

Victoria sighed, "I really like Gina. But um, I told Ricky because you were so busy and Channing got the whole thing on camera."

"I think you should talk to Gina before she finds out in a way she wasn't expecting."

"I just... I really like her and I think being rejected would suck."

Shiloh held a small smile, wrapping her arm around Victoria's shoulder, resting her cheek on top of her head, "Rejection sucks but everyone goes through it and however you feel about it is only temporary. It will suck in the moment, but there's always a bright side."

"Do you ever listen to your own advice?" Victoria asked, "I mean, I'm taking your words to heart, but maybe you should try and listen to yourself."

She wasn't wrong. Shiloh seemed to always give the right advice to people but can never listens to it herself. What she said could've applied to any situation even her own.

"You're not wrong." Shiloh sighed.

"Most times I'm not." Victoria laughed.

"Guys!" Jenna called, "So many things happened! First Gina broke up with EJ and Kourtney going to climb the wall! Come on!"

Shiloh and Victoria furrowed their brows and quickly stood to their feet and followed after Jenna.

With that said, Kourtney did climb the wall with the support of the others from the bottom.

They had disbanded after awhile and Shiloh and Ricky crossed path.

"Hey, you're looking better." Ricky smiled.

"And you're looking wetter." She chuckled.

"Um, yeah. Tradition." He said, "Are you okay?"

Shiloh sighed, "I just wanted tonight to be special and I completely missed out on it, but I'll be fine."

"Tonight's not over." Ricky said, holding his hand out.

Shiloh held furrowed brows and grabbed his hand and followed him to the middle of nowhere.

"I saved you a dance." Ricky smiled, "It's not much, but I don't want to see you sad."

He grabbed the portable CD player and pressed play on it. The sounds of the instrumental song began playing.

Ricky turned and held his hand out, "Take my hand, take a breath. Pull me close and take one step."

He instantly stopped the music once he saw the the immediate tears run down her face.

"Okay, this was supposed to be a happy moment. Why are you crying?" He said, holding her cheeks and wiping her tears.

"This is very sweet Ricky." She smiled.

Ricky smiled, titling her head down slightly and kissed her forehead, "Anything for you, you know that."

"I wanted one normal summer. To spend it with you and my friends and I completely missed it. And with your birthday tomorrow and the show I just-"

"My birthday is tomorrow. This show is tomorrow. Everything is happening tomorrow. Right now, it's camp prom for you and I. And we're going to have the time of our lives."

Ricky watched as a smile and grateful smile grew on Shiloh's face.

She had done everything she could for Ricky in the time she's known him. She tried helping with Nini, she tried helping with his mom. She loved him endlessly and that's was something he knew.

Everything she tried to do came from the kindness of her heart and though this gesture was just as small as teaching the girl to skateboard, he knew it would put a genuine smile on her face.

He leaned down and closed the space between the two of them, kissing her.

His hand moved from her cheeks to the nape of her neck. He used it to pull her closer, and she let him. The familiar smell of his cologne bothered her more than anything but she didn't care in the moment.

With a content sigh, Shiloh rested her head against Ricky's, "I love you."

"I love you, very much." Ricky smiled, "Now, can I actually have this dance?"

"Yeah." She smiled, letting out a breathy laugh.

He left her side of a moment and pressed play on CD player, starting the song over.

Ricky turned, giving Dylan the signal and from the side he turned the hose on. The water hose had been taped around the nozzle to keep the water flowing and the gentle water hit the couple.

All Shiloh wanted was a carefree summer and though she hadn't been able to fully grasp that, Ricky was going to make the last few hours of her life one of the best summers ever.
