SEVEN. the unexpected love club guest
THE LOVE Club had separated themselves from everyone today. They hadn't run anything by Miss. Jenn today and she had told them that they were blocking Troy and Gabriella today, so no need for them (unless Miss. Jenn desperately needed them) today.
They had stayed after school just to catch up with each other and relax. The Love Club was a safe and comfortable place for people to spill their guts, but also comfortable for them to just sit there if they really wanted to.
Their conversation was cut short by a rapid knock on their door. Shiloh furrowed her brows and stood to answer it.
On the other side stood Nini, her cellphone held tightly in her hands.
"Miss. Jenn need us?" Shiloh asked.
"No, but I need help. If you're willing."
Shiloh allowed Nini inside and just like how she had done with Ricky before, had the group reintroduce themselves along with having Nini sorta-kinda introduce herself for the first time.
"I'm Nina, or Nini, Salazar-Roberts, a junior, and... Ricky left me this voicemail and EJ stole my phone, listened to it, and deleted it before I got a chance to listen to it. I was wondering if anyone knew had to get voicemails back?"
"The AV Club is right next door." Madison said.
Ashley gently hit Madison's shoulder, "What? It's true. We're not technologically smart. We're love enthusiasts."
"I knew it would catch on." Ashley smiled.
"Nini, Madison's right. We can talk to you about EJ and even Ricky, but we can't get that voicemail back for you." Shiloh said.
Evie stood from their chair, "Excuse us for a moment."
Grabbing Shiloh's hand, pulling her to the side, "You know what's on that voicemail."
"Okay?"
"Okay?" Evie questioned, "This is all for Ricky right? This is what he wants and it's very obvious that she wants to hear what he said. Plus, I want to see EJ suffer."
"Personal lives out of the Love Club."
Evie sighed, "You told me that Ricky told you what was on that voicemail. Only you, him, and EJ know. It's fair that she knows."
"I'm not denying that." Shiloh said, "It's best to let her talk about how she feels about EJ stealing her phone and deleting the message, how she may feel about Ricky leaving said voicemail, then let her know what I know, then conclude with her giving us a five star review."
"Right. So, Madison and I mainly talk, right?"
"I don't see why not." Shiloh answered, "Madison can talk about EJ's selfishness and you talk about how she may feel about Ricky."
"But I want to talk about EJ and how—"
"Not about EJ and I. I haven't spoken to him since... Ricky threw that ball at his face."
"He did that?"
"Jenna didn't tell you?"
"You didn't tell me!" Evie whispered loudly, "I mean, Jenna didn't either, but I would've love to see it. Ricky busted his lip like that?"
"We'll talk about this later, right now it's about Nini."
Shiloh separated herself from Evie and rejoined the others.
"So, wanna talk about EJ?"
"NO MATTER what the message said. He didn't have any right going through my phone, let alone stealing it." Nini started, "It's annoying. I missed an hour of rehearsals just because he had my phone and I completely blamed it on someone else."
"You have every right to feel that way, Nini." Madison said, "What EJ did was wrong, but can be forgiven if you care about the relationship or love him."
"That's the other thing, he's upset with me because I haven't said I love you back."
"Sound familiar?" Evie asked.
Nini sighed, "I dated Ricky for so long. Longer than EJ. You don't think it's rushed?"
Shiloh shrugged, "Some people have a harder time expressing emotions. Some people don't know how to express them and some people just... feel like they don't really know what that emotion is. If EJ told you he loves you... he probably means it."
"Yeah, could be worse." Evie said, "He could've ripped your heart out, stomped on it, and completely moved on within a short span of time."
"What?" Nini questioned.
"What is wrong with you?" Shiloh asked.
"Sorry, he angers me."
Shiloh rolled her eyes, "EJ and I dated for a short time before he went to camp."
"Shiloh, I didn't know that. I— I wouldn't have come if I knew that."
"This is exactly why we keep our personal lives out of the Love Club." Shiloh said.
Ashley pushed her chair over towards Shiloh and Nini, "Nini, we keep our own feelings and business out of the club. We want everyone to feel welcomed and that they are heard."
"This has nothing to do with me." Shiloh said, "I'm sitting here, all fine and listening to what you have to say."
"We're people who want to help. No matter the outside circumstances." Jenna added.
Nini looked around before dropping her hands in her lap, "I just thought he was different."
"Like Ricky?" Evie asked.
"Ricky wouldn't have stolen my phone. Ricky wouldn't have gone through my stuff without asking."
"Don't compare your last relationship to the one you have with EJ." Evie started, "You obviously still see some good in Ricky, which is great. Ex's can be friends, but if you can really see things working out with EJ, you'll talk to him."
"You've done a complete one-eighty." Nini softly smiled.
"How I feel about him can be discussed outside this club."
Nini let out a small laugh before she checked the time, "Oh, shoot I have blocking. Thank you for the help."
"Stop by anytime." Shiloh smiled.
"Remember, we helped you have to give us a five star review." Evie added as Nini ran out the door.
The four of them looked over at Evie.
"Why did you do that?" Jenna asked.
"We always ask people for five star reviews."
"You know what she means." Shiloh said.
She stood from her chair, holding Evie's face in her hands, pushing their cheeks up slightly, "We know you don't like EJ. Almost all of you don't like EJ, but I haven't said anything about him recently. If I'm not mad at EJ, neither should you."
Evie removed Shiloh's hands, holding them together, "You were hurt."
"I was. Shortest relationship I've ever had, but I'm not wallowing in my sadness anymore."
Which was true. Other than the musical, Shiloh wasn't thinking about EJ whatsoever. Yeah, she had that song, but she hadn't touched it since Ricky mentioned it a couple of weeks ago.
Shiloh was completely over EJ Caswell. She saw no interest in him and didn't want to try and fix any romantic relationship they could possibly have.
"I'm sorry." Evie pouted, "It won't happen again."
"Good." She smiled.
"Shiloh, you never told Nini about the voicemail." Madison said.
Shiloh let out a groan, throwing her head back as she did so, "I'll find her around school later, right now the club is on a break."
IT HAD grown later into the evening and everyone beside Shiloh had left the Love Club.
She had just pulled the door shut to lock it and heard footsteps jogging up towards her.
"Hey, I caught you in time." Ricky softly smiled.
"Yeah, just locking up. What's up with you?"
"Can I show you something?"
Shiloh quickly nodded and as soon as she didn't Ricky hesitate to grab her hand pulling her towards the auditorium.
"What are we doing here?"
"I'm going to teach you how to play the guitar."
Shiloh shifted, "What happened to skateboarding?"
"We can work on that later. Right now, guitar."
She sighed, putting her bag down next to the vacant piano, and sat down next to Ricky on the edge of the stage.
"This shouldn't take long." He smiled.
It took forever. Shiloh growing frustrated from not understanding what the chords meant and how one chord could make everything sound different.
"Ricky, can we do something else?" Shiloh asked, "I'm never going to understand this and I rather learn how to skate."
"Look, you've almost got it." Ricky said, "Follow my lead."
Ricky stood to his feet, grabbing Shiloh's hand.
He stood in front and rested his hands on his hips. He titled his head slightly.
"Why are you holding it like that?" He asked.
"I'm supposed to hold it a certain way?"
"Okay, look."
Ricky stood behind her, grabbing her one hand and putting it on the neck of the guitar. Grabbing her other hand and placing them on the strings.
"I'll guide you." He sighed, "The basics are Bm, E, G, and A."
"I have no idea what that means."
Ricky placed her hand on the strings and pushed her fingers down slightly, telling her what chords were what.
Slowly, the intro of Breaking Free could be heard throughout the auditorium.
"Thought you hated musicals?"
"I had spare time to rewatch the movies."
Meanwhile, EJ stood outside the Love Club knocking on the door. He didn't want to be there and he sure didn't want to ask his ex about his new girlfriend, but the club was good at giving advice and that's what he needed.
But no answer.
He sighed. No answer from the Love Club and he desperately needed it. He didn't even know if they did after school hours either.
He stepped away from the door, pulling his phone on, and, as much as he didn't want to do this either, rang Shiloh's number. To his luck, she didn't answer, but that was going to stop him from sending her a text either, a lengthy text message.
EJ slightly shook his head as he kept deleting his messages that he thought he could send to Shiloh. He didn't want to ask her for help, but his relationship was on the line.
He drew his attention away from his phone as he heard laughter in the auditorium.
He stuck his phone in his pocket and peeked inside the giant area. EJ looked over at Ricky and Shiloh standing very close, playing the fairly large instrument. His brows furrowed, this is why Shiloh hadn't been in the club? This is why Shiloh hadn't answered her phone? Because she was spending her free time with Ricky Bowen. How could she? How dare she? EJ had a love issue and the leader, CEO, founder, blah, blah, blah, of the Love Club was with a guy that EJ envied.
But, he couldn't be mad that Shiloh was with Ricky. EJ chose to break things off, EJ chose to move on quickly, and EJ chose to lead Shiloh on, to make her feel like they could actually go on and have a lasting relationship with him, but no.
EJ held his jaw tight before exiting the auditorium. Sending his final text to Shiloh before leaving the school entirely.
He couldn't be angry. If Shiloh was with Ricky it was good news for him. With his argument and what seemed to be a near breakup with Nini, he knew that Nini couldn't go back to Ricky because of Shiloh, but if they weren't together... there was nothing stopping Ricky and Nini whatsoever.
EJ was going to keep his relationship with Nini Salazar-Roberts. Ricky Bowen wasn't going to get in the way of that.
