ONE. the love club senior year special
SHILOH MOLINA couldn't have imagined that this would be her life. That she would be in any of the positions that she had found herself (willing or not) in.
And after the awfulness of that Disney+ documentary and how she almost missed the premier of said documentary and how she completely went M.I.A. on everyone... everyone had thought that she was completely done with everything.
But when she walked into the theater that day of the premier and everyone saw her. They knew, they absolutely knew that she hadn't quit on them.
But what she didn't know— well get to that.
For now, Shiloh stood at her bedroom door, her hair now a dark maroon-ish red color as Victoria "Tori" Rivera (her sister), once again, asked her the best way to ask Gina Porter out before the school year officially began.
It didn't shock Shiloh that she'd been receiving Love Club request before, during, and after her summer. She'd had that idea set in stone when she saw how successful the club had become that night on the news.
What she hadn't expected the day that documentary dropped was the amount of followers she'd gained practically overnight.
"Have you talked to Gina?" Shiloh asked.
Victoria rolled her eyes, "Duh! Have you been listening? God, I should've gone to..."
"Gone to who?" Shiloh questioned, "Ricky? You're new best friend?"
"He's not my best friend." Victoria muttered, "Whatever I don't want to talk about Ricky. Goodnight moon."
"Goodnight Tori." Shiloh smiled, gently shutting the door behind her.
She sighed, resting her head against the door.
The Montgomery's (Shiloh's parents) moved before Shiloh left for Shallow Lake during the summer. Meaning, the girl had her own, bigger, better room on the third floor of their house and she had a small loft in her room.
She had hit the absolute jackpot when she told her parents she'd help with the rent for the first four months.
She snickered at the thought, smiling as she turned.
But that smile turned into one of fear and a loud scream as she saw her boyfriend, Ricky Bowen standing by her window with a leaf in his hair.
"I'm sorry!" He apologized, "I'm so sorry!"
She began to breath heavily from scream, covering her face with hands to hide how red she had gotten from the fright. Her glasses pushing up into her hair as Ricky drew closer to her, still apologizing and hopping down from the loft that was close to the window he had crawled through.
"Shiloh." He smiled, gently grabbing her wrist to remover her hands from her face, "I'm so sorry. I just couldn't wait until tomorrow to see you."
Shiloh took in a deep breath, finally looking up at Ricky and lacing their hands together.
"Why'd you come through my window and why didn't you tell me you were coming?" She asked.
Ricky smiled, "I wanted to show you something... well, hear something and Jonathan scares me. I'm sure he hates me."
And he did.
Jonathan was the oldest sibling in the household and he just graduated from college not that long ago.
And Jonathan did not like Ricky Bowen. He, along with EJ and Dylan, didn't seem to be the perfect match for his little sister. He had seen what all three of those boy put her through and he wasn't not vibing with them whatsoever.
But who did Shiloh end up with? Ricky Bowen.
Who did Shiloh Molina actually love? Ricky Bowen.
At the end of the day, Jonathan was going to have to suck it up and just let it go because Shiloh and Ricky weren't planning on breaking up anytime soon.
"He does not hate you." Shiloh reassured.
She held her one hand on his cheek as the other was laced with his. She giggled, seeing the small leaf in his hair and gently took it from his hair.
"Oh..." Ricky smiled, "That was got you."
Shiloh looked up, smiling, "Is it? Then I'll treasure it forever."
The two of them laughed and Ricky looked down at her, smiling.
"I wanted to AirDrop you something."
"Did you finally finish that playlist you wanted to make me?" She asked, untangling herself from Ricky's hold and sitting down on her bed.
"No... I'm still working on it." He said, joining her side on the bed, "But this is a melody I'm working on right now and I couldn't get it out of my head. And it reminded me of you."
Shiloh smiled, tilting her head to the side, "Aw."
"Because I couldn't get you out of my head." He smiled, "Gross."
"Gross?" Shiloh smiled, "Love can be a very gross thing. I would say our relationship is pretty gross, don't you think?"
"Very gross." He smiled, "But... this could be a song. It could be nothing. I just thought maybe we could write this one together."
"You think I could write a song?" She asked, "What makes you think I could write a song?"
Ricky smiled, "I didn't know you could sing or act not that long ago, baby. I have the confidence that you can write a song."
"I'll try." She smiled, "Just send it to me and I'll get started on it."
Ricky smiled, looking down at his phone to send the melody to Shiloh. He looked over, her bed full of folders and notebooks, but his eyes caught sight of the words Mini Love Club and picked up the notebook once the message was sent.
"What's this?" He asked.
Shiloh looked down, "Oh..." She softly smiled, taking the notebook from his hands, "I was going to wait and tell you about all of this on our first day." She sighed, "Principal Gutierrez says I can either continue the club or get rid of it once I graduate."
Ricky furrowed his brows but let the girl continue to speak as she stood up, holding the notebook in her hands as she did so.
"So, the club and I offered to give some of the freshmen a tour of the school where we scouted some people who we thought might be best for the club if I chose to continue it."
Ricky turned, sitting on the bed, but facing Shiloh as she spoke.
He, along with many others, didn't think the club would ever end, but what is the Love Club without Shiloh. Of course she had an entire school year to figure out whether or not the club would shut down, but still, this was a huge decision for her and she still didn't have a definitive answer.
Shiloh continued, "We all picked some people out of the group and we're supposed to meet with them after school to see if they're the perfect fit for the club."
"Well who do you have so far?" Ricky asked.
"Uh," Shiloh muttered, looking down at the list, "Ryan Scott, Cameron Rutherford, Megan Chu, Scout Lindermann, and Emmy." She read, "I was trying to figure out who can mentor who based on how they acted during the tour and I think I've got it figured out... kind of."
"Wanna share?"
Ricky watched as a small smile was painted on Shiloh's face. She had never been in a relationship where anyone cared about her club as much as she had and was a pure blessing that Ricky cared.
"I think Emmy and Ashley are similar in how they interact with others so that may work. Scout reminds me a lot of Madison. Jenna wants to work with Megan because she saw that she had a Harry Styles tote bag. Cameron and Evie are pretty similar, and I'm going to be working with Ryan."
"Sounds like you have this all worked out." Ricky smiled, "I don't see any reason for you to get rid of the club."
Shiloh smile slowly dropped, "I know, but... the whole point of the club is to help people with love or just working on themselves personally and if I can't find anyone who's passionate about the club and not the fame... then what's the point, you know?"
Ricky watched as a wave of sadness hit the girl and gestured for her to come over. So, she stepped forward, Ricky's arm stretched out as she sat down in his lap and he wrapped his arms around her.
"You are the reason that everyone in this school gets along. There is no Love Club without Shiloh Molina. You know the value of the club and you know who fits."
Shiloh looked down, her look still saddened, but softly smiling as she looked at him.
"You're gross."
"I'm being serious." He said, gently squeezing her thigh, "You've always done good by the club and that's never going to chance whether it stays or goes."
"Thank you, Ricky."
Ricky nodded his expression filled with sincerity and warmth.
Shiloh found herself instinctively leaning into the kiss, her hand gently resting on his chest. Ricky's touch was both gentle and reassuring, his fingers softly grazing her cheek.
As they pulled away, they rested their foreheads against each other. Shiloh felt a blush rise to her cheeks, and a shy smile tugged at the corners of Ricky's lips.
"Wanna know something crazy?" Ricky muttered.
"I'm sure you were going to tell me anyway." She muttered back.
Ricky smiled, pressing his lips against hers once more before speaking, "I was talking to Big Red and he and literally everyone else thinks we broke up."
Shiloh removed her forehead from Ricky's and looked down at him with furrowed brows, "What? Why?"
"You went M.I.A on everyone after camp, Shiloh. The first time anyone had heard from you was at the premier of the documentary." Ricky answered, "And you stopped posting pictures of us on Instagram."
"That's because people were thirsting after you and I got sick of it." She laughed, "But that doesn't mean we broke up."
"According to the internet it does."
Shiloh sighed and rested her cheek on top of Ricky's hair. Her eyes danced back and forth from her desk full of clutter and to her photo wall with pictures of all her friends, but her eyes specifically on a picture of her and Ricky the week before camp had started.
"Whatcha' thinking about?"
"Maybe it's best that we keep our relationship private, you know?" She sighed, "I want to you and my relationship close and ever since that documentary... I literally can't lose you."
"Hey," Ricky called, taking his hand, moving it towards Shiloh's chin to make the girl look at him, "it's you and I. Always. Whatever you want I'll do."
Shiloh gave him a small smile, holding her pinky finger out, "You and I, Bowen."
Ricky smiled, gently lacing his fingers with hers, "You and I."
He looked down, her fingers stacked with various rings and her nails painted.
"When'd you get your nails done?" He asked.
Shiloh almost laughed as she removed her laced pinky with his and looked down at her nails. A rounded, pink french tip with handed paint sparkles.
"A week ago. I went with Jenna."
"They're pretty." He said, taking her hand.
Shiloh made a face, shaking her hand loose from Ricky's and stood.
She hovered over him, her hands pressed against her bed as her forehead rested against Ricky's.
"Have I ever said how much I liked the red?" He smiled, running his hands over the curls of her hair, "It reminds me Ariel. My Ariel."
Shiloh smiled and pressed her lips against his.
"As much as I hate it, you need to go home." She softly smiled, "First day of senior year tomorrow."
Ricky rolled his eyes, "Don't remind me."
He stood to his feet as Shiloh stepped back.
"I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Of course."
Ricky stepped forward, kissing Shiloh once more and made his way out of her window and on his way home.
Shiloh's fingers gently danced across her lips and she sat down on her bed, pushing all the clutter onto the floor to deal with tomorrow.
Being with Ricky was different for Shiloh... a very good different.
SHILOH WOKE up bright and early for her last first day of school.
She rushed to grab her green, oversized cardigan and pulled up her white socks as she rushed out the door to get to school on her specific time.
She finally took a breath and sat in her car and waited for Victoria to come out and once the girl did, they made their way to the school.
"Why must you be get to school so early?" Victoria asked, running her fingers through her hair.
"Well, first off, I have Love Club stuff to get done and it's your first day at this school and your junior year. Plus, I need help decorating the room this year."
"Why do I need to help?"
"You don't, but I need to be there in order to do so." Shiloh answered, "I just have a lot to do in a short amount of time."
"Does this happen every year?" Victoria asked, "You stressing out like this?"
"No... maybe? I don't know. I just know that there's a lot going on with the club and a lot that I have to do and think about." Shiloh sighed, "I don't wanna talk about it anymore. Tell me what's going on with you and Gina."
Victoria smiled, sitting back in her seat, "Nothing... Something. I don't know. We're just... testing the waters."
"Testing the waters?"
"I love you Shiloh, I really do, but I want to try and figure this one out on my own."
"Then go ahead." Shiloh shrugged, "I don't meddle unless I'm asked."
"Oh." Victoria nodded, "Well, good."
Shiloh gave Victoria a small smile and turned into the school's parking lot. She and Victoria exited her car and Shiloh began to pull all of the other Love Club "necessities" that she needed and she and Victoria made their way inside of the school.
Victoria, once into the club room, rested her head against the counter as Shiloh pulled out the stack of folders from the crate.
She slowly, but surely, put things where they belonged until there was a knock on the door and Shiloh opened the door to see Principal Gutierrez on the other side.
"Ms. Molina." He smiled, "Glad to see you here."
She returned the smile, "Glad to be here. Is there something I can help you with?"
"I just wanted to remind you about the pep rally. You speak before our special guest."
"I got the seven emails about it, Principal Gutierrez, I'll be there on time."
He only nodded and left the girl alone with Victoria once more. Victoria looked up and over at Shiloh.
"What is he talking about?"
Shiloh turned, "Nothing. Don't worry about it." She smiled and continued one.
Soon enough, the students of East High ventured the halls and Shiloh slipped the usual Love Club cards that Evie had made (graphic design is their passion), and placed special cards for the five students who she believed would be perfect members of the club.
She soon felt someone grab her arm and pull her into the stairwell.
"What the he— Oh." She smiled, "You've got to start giving me warnings."
Ricky only smiled, placing hands on Shiloh's hips and pressed a kiss against her lips.
"Did you pull me into the stairwell just to kiss me?"
"No," He smiled, "it's just a plus."
Shiloh playfully rolled her eyes and exited the stairwell with Ricky following her side.
"I was wondering if you're going to meeting with Miss. Jenn?" He asked.
Shiloh shook her head as she stuck cards in different lockers, "I'm not needed so why would I go?"
"To audition for the musical, duh?" He answered, nudging her shoulder, "Come on, I mean, imagine us as Troy and Gabriella."
"You told me to do that same thing when we did Frozen and you saw how well that went."
Ricky sighed, moving in front of Shiloh to stop her from walking.
"I know how things went down this summer... it's all in my comments, but this is different."
"Different how, Ricky?"
"Well, first... um..." He paused, looking over at Shiloh who only titled her head up with a smirk as she waited for him to speak, "Okay, please, just please come to auditions. I don't ask or beg you for a lot of things."
She furrowed her brows, "Okay, I do." Ricky continued, "But this time it's different. I promise you. You can sing, act, and I know deep down inside, can dance because of all the soccer stuff you do."
"I'll... think about, Ricky."
His smile brightened as he shot his hands in the air and stepped forward to the girl, but as she stepped back he was suddenly pulled back into the reality of everyone thinking they had broken up.
"Oh..." He paused, holding his hands together, "I forgot. Secret lovers."
Shiloh gave him a small smile and a nod, holding her fist out and Ricky gently held his out, ponding their fist together.
"All right," He sighed, "I'll let you get back to this Love Club stuff. Need help?"
"Can you shove these into people's lockers?"
"Sure." He smiled, taking the stack from her hands and leaving her alone.
Shiloh turned, nodding to herself.
So, the Love Club, college, and the potential of auditioning for the musical.
She could handle that.
