NINETEEN. the guys vs. the girls vs. the love club

SPRING BREAK had ended and school started right back up.

There was one thing standing in between Jenna Russet and her entryway onto the stage... and that was Ricky Bowen.

Before the Love Club, Jenna was very lonesome. Didn't stick to one crowd and didn't have many friends. Once she did gain those friends, it turned out they weren't as nice as she thought. Meeting Shiloh, Evie, Madison, and Ashley changed Jenna's life and how she viewed not only other people but herself also.

So, when Ricky broke up with Shiloh, Jenna didn't know if she could continue the musical. She adored Beauty and the Beast but was being Belle actually worth pretending to be in love with someone who just broke your best friend's heart? In Jenna's eyes, it wasn't. She had been debating for days on whether or not to drop the musical and the only reason why she didn't talk to anyone about it was because she knew they would tell her to do the musical.

"Going inside?"

Jenna turned and saw Ricky standing behind her. She was nervous; she wasn't going to lie. She hadn't spoken to Ricky in a couple of days and she really didn't know how to continue a conversation after this. With EJ and Dylan, it was a lot easier for Jenna to ignore them, especially after how poorly they treated Shiloh, but Ricky was different. He was a sweet guy who didn't know how to control his emotions very well.

"Oh, um... yeah, just thinking."

"About going inside?"

"Yeah... yeah."

"Are you okay, Jenna? Do I have to get Shiloh or-"

"No!" She shouted, "I mean, no. I'm fine."

Ricky held his backpack strap close and glanced between Jenna and the entryway.

"Are you sure?" He asked.

"Yes. Thank you for the concern, Ricky." Jenna smiled, taking Ricky's wrist in her hands, "Let's go."

Ricky could get another question out as Jenna dragged him inside the bomb shelter.

As soon as the two of them entered they were rushed into their costumes to work on the transformation scene.

As instructed, Jenna sat on her knees and Ricky rested his head in her lap.

Jenna glanced back at her friends who sent her a small smile and a thumbs up.

They couldn't figure out why Jenna had become so jumpy and could only assume it was because opening night was two weeks away.

Miss. Jenn ushered the two to start. Ricky cleared his throat as he adjusted himself on Jenna's lap.

"You came back."

"If only I'd come sooner."

"Maybe it's better this way..."

"Don't talk like that. Everything will be fine."

"No."

"We're together now. You'll see."

Ricky held his hand on Jenna's cheek. Her nerves getting the best of her as she copied his actions.

"I'm just glad I was able to see your face one last..."

Seb began playing the piano and Jenna began to sing Home.

"Belle... I..."

"Yes?"

Ricky rolled out of Jenna's lap and she quickly glanced back at her friends. The four of them ushered her to continue.

"No, no, please don't leave me. Please." Jenna paused for a moment, "I love you."

Jenna didn't love many people. Acting or not. Yes, she was the one member in the Love Club who got around the most and that was simply because she wanted to and because she knew that she couldn't settle for less. She loved her friends and adored certain people in her life, but even now, acting with Ricky and saying I love you was weird, especially when her best friend and his ex-girlfriend stood in the room with them.

With Jenna's mind getting the best of her, she had failed to notice Ricky struggling to get the mask off. Once he did get it off, he threw it Natalie's way and she was unprepared, causing the painted trees to fall.

"Cut!" Miss. Jenn shouted.

"Sorry, Natalie." Ricky apologized.

"It's okay. It was just my face."

"Guess I should practice that throw, huh?"

"The throw is great, Ricky." Miss. Jenn smiled, "The mask is great. This is working. I will be in my office."

"Guys, we're on a long five until Miss. Jenn returns." Carlos said, rushing after her.

Jenna quickly stood up and made her way towards Shiloh who had been making a new schedule for Mr. Mazzara to look over.

Jenna grabbed Shiloh's hand and stood in front of her.

"Yes, Belle?"

"I'm officially quitting the musical."

"You make me want to slam my head against the wall." Shiloh sighed, "Why do you want to quit?"

"I'm just not feeling it anymore."

"There's no Belle understudy and the musical is two weeks away. What's up?"

"Isn't this weird? Like... being here with Ricky?"

Shiloh softly smiled, "Jenna, I love you. Don't make this weird for yourself. Ricky and I are friends, okay? You are absolutely going to kill it as Belle and I'm not letting you drop that for me."

"It's just that-"

"Do this for you. Not for me. I'll be fine. I am fine."

And she was. Yeah, breakups suck, but she was fine as of now. She has her days, but she was good. She felt fine and now that she was back home in Salt Lake, she felt at peace. She loved L.A. and the time she spent there, but Salt Lake was home.

"Are you sure?" Jenna asked.

"I promise. Don't worry about me."

Kourtney soon approached the two, "Hey, can I borrow Jenna for a moment?"

"She's all yours." Shiloh smiled.

As Kourtney and Jenna waltzed off, Ricky soon appeared in front of her.

He was nervous. He hadn't spoken to her since the breakup... well, since the accidental voice message. He did listen to Shiloh's voicemail but she didn't have to know that... right?

"Hey." He smiled.

Shiloh looked up and smiled, "Hi."

"Whatcha working on?"

"Love Club stuff. Just a schedule for Mazzara to look at."

"More interviews?"

"No, actually. We have a big gap between now and June. So, we'll be working on students here and the website as much as we can before school gets out for the summer. We have this opportunity at this summer camp, but we're not sure about that yet."

Ricky nodded, "How was California? I saw that you guys met some famous people."

"Yeah, it was fun. Nothing crazy other than meeting her and the interviews. Overall it was an experience that I don't regret." She smiled, "How was Chicago?"

"It was... different."

"Good different?"

"Yeah... my mom and I seem to be going in the right direction."

"I'm glad to hear. Anything... else happen?"

Ricky sighed. He could bring up the song, the voicemail, everything.

"Not really."

Shiloh nodded and grabbed her bag off of the floor, "Well, I'm glad you had a good time in Chicago. You kind of went dark on everyone, so I'm glad you're okay. You know we're still friends right?"

"I would hope."

"And just because we aren't together doesn't mean the help from the club stops. Don't feel awkward or anything."

Ricky knew that Shiloh had listened to the message. They had their read receipts on. He was embarrassed, but it was probably for the best that she heard it from him and not anyone else.

"Yeah, of course."

"Well, I've got to give this to Mr. Mazzara. I'll see you later, Ricky."

Ricky watched as she turned and he quickly called her name.

"Hey! Do you want to go to Slice's later? You know... as friends?"

"Yeah. That's fine. You know, friends eat out all the time."

"Right, nothing crazy."

"I can meet you outside when school is out."

Ricky gave her one last nod and watched as she left the theater. Ricky at least wanted to maintain his friendship with Shiloh. Duh, she was pretty and caring and all around his favorite person to be around... he was getting ahead of himself. His relationship with Shiloh meant everything to him and he would do anything to repair that relationship with her.

SHILOH WAITED at her car for Ricky to show up. School had been over for a while now and she had just been waiting for her curly-haired ex.

He came strolling out of the school and suddenly his nerves returned. He had gotten used to Shiloh being his girlfriend. He had to refrain from doing anything romantic with her and no matter what he thought about he had to refrain.

"Hey, ready to go?" She asked.

Ricky nodded and sat in the front seat of her car. He was getting some weird type of deja vu. The first time he ever rode with Shiloh was when he was trying to stay far away from home because his parents were going through a divorce. Now, he was sitting in the car with his ex-girlfriend going to get pizza.

"You okay?"

Ricky looked up, "Yeah, just thinking."

"Wanna share?"

Shiloh put her car in drive waiting for Ricky to start talking. The same Glass Animals song playing from their first car ride began playing on her stereo.

"Is Jenna okay?"

"Yeah, she's just... worried."

"Worried?"

"She just cares about us more than this musical that she wants to do." Shiloh answered, "She has a good heart and is concerned about the what if's."

"This isn't about... us is it?"

Shiloh tapped her fingers on the wheel for a moment before sighing, "Yeah. She just found it weird that she has to play a character in love with someone and we just broke up, you know?"

Ricky was thankful that Shiloh could be honest with him. She had her moments where she slipped a white lie every now and then and he knew that, but she was mainly honest with him.

"Yeah..."

"But we're friends, right? So, she just worried that I would find it weird that she would have to act out a love scene with you, but that's it." Shiloh continued, "She just wants to look out for everyone. I'm thankful for that, but I want her to do this for her. Just had to reassure her that it was fine; I am fine."

"Are you?"

"Am I fine? Yes... sometimes. Is it weird that we talk about this?"

Yes, it was. It was awkward because they both still had some type of feelings there and did their best to hide them in this current situation.

"No."

"Well... I know how I feel and I understand that... things change and I know that... stuff happens, but whatever happens, happens right? Does that make sense?"

"Yes."

No. He understood somewhat and tried his best to piece together what she was trying to say. Sounded like she knew how she felt about him and that if his feelings changed she would understand. That's sounded like the basics of the conversation.

"However you feel I hope that it's good." Ricky said.

Shiloh finally pulled into the Slice's parking lot and sat for a moment.

"It is. I hope how you feel... you're being honest with yourself."

The two of them softly smiled and exited the vehicle. Walking inside of Slices and the unexpected glances of the cast staring at them.

They had been there for a while, decided to meet up to talk about how they could make the transformation the best they could.

Nini chose that it would be the guys versus the girls.

She hadn't realized the secrets would be spilled and it would soon turn out to be the guys versus the girls versus the Love Club.
