FOURTEEN. you're pressed, a little bit obsessed
PISSED OFF. Adjective. Meaning, very annoyed; angry. Still confused? Here it is in a sentence: Shiloh Molina, Evie Fernandez, Ashley Yang, Madison Gregg, and Jenna Russet we're very pissed off with Lily. Of course, the club had their haters but this was different. Dylan was a menace and the people online were haters, but Lily was an enemy. There was nothing that girl could do to take that title away from herself. Lily was making things worse and not only for the club but for Shiloh and Ricky also.
Ashley tapped Shiloh's shoulder and pointed towards Ricky and Lily near the entrance of the auditorium.
Was Shiloh the jealous type? Yes, she wouldn't deny that. She wasn't Dylan Lapids jealous, but she knew when a threat towards her relationship was coming and she wouldn't let anyone jeopardize the relationship she cared about the most.
Shiloh kept her arms folded as she approached the two, Ricky's back now facing Shiloh.
"I think it's really cool how you're handling your girlfriend talking to me that way." Lily said, "She's up on this high pedestal with this quasi-viral club of hers."
"What are you talking about? I'm proud of Shiloh. She's worked very hard."
"Has she? Working so hard to not give you the time of day? To give you the time a girlfriend should be giving you. Sounds more like a girl who wants some space. Anyway, let me know if you're looking for one who doesn't."
Shiloh approached the two, hearing enough of the conversation, and wrapped her arm around Ricky's, lacing their hands together.
"I'm sure he won't be letting you know that anytime soon." Shiloh smiled, "Hop along, Polly Pocket. You have a dance off to lose."
To say Lily was pleased was an understatement. She had gotten Shiloh right where she wanted. The blonde held her smile and walked off to join the others.
Shiloh let go of Ricky's hand and faced him.
"What was that?" She asked.
"What was what?"
"Okay, Ricky, honestly, I don't care if you're friends with her even when she laughed at your best friend when he fell on stage and tried to tell me that I steal advice, but I want to make it known that she won't be around while I'm here."
"Don't you think that's a little... far-fetched? She's just jealous. Nothing to worry about."
"Do you want me to agree with you?"
"You don't agree?"
"I agree to think she's jealous." Shiloh smiled, "I won't agree that this is far-fetched. She hasn't been the nicest person I've ever met."
Ricky rested his hands on Shiloh's shoulders, "There's nothing to worry about. Don't overreact."
"I'm not overreacting. This is me protecting my relationship. I'm not going to Lily ruin anything or anyone I care about."
"It's always you and me. No one is getting in the way of that."
"Are you sure? Because when you didn't say anything... it kind of sent an impression."
Shiloh's mind ran around with thousands of questions on why Ricky didn't say anything when Lily suggested that Ricky get a new girlfriend, specifically her. The two questions that stuck out to her really made her question herself and she hated that she thought that way.
"Okay, everyone. Warm-up is over, gather around." Lily called, "I will now press shuffle to choose the song."
"After which, I will prepare a dance remix of the song, since I, on occasion, DJ." Antoine added.
"Ah, of course he's a DJ." Red scoffed.
"Non, monsieur, I DJ, but I would not say I am a DJ."
"Thanks for the clarity."
"Everyone ready? And it's... The Mob Song."
"Yes!" EJ cheered as the others groaned, "I knew you all didn't like The Mob Song."
"It's not really a dancing song." Big Red complained.
"It's fine, guys. We're East High. We can make anything work." Gina said.
"Open the curtain."
Gasps from the Wildcats could be heard as they glanced around the stage. North High definitely had a bigger musical budget than East High and it showed.
"Is it just me, or is all of this, like, off-the-rails insane?" Nini asked.
"Uh, honestly, if you don't wanna do it with us, you could always take off." Ricky suggested, "Don't want you to feel confined."
"Wait, what? This is a bad idea."
Shiloh and Ricky watched Nini walk away and Shiloh elbowed Ricky.
Shiloh hopped off stage (having nothing to give to the performance anyway) and followed Nini outside.
"Neens!" Shiloh called, "Hey, are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm okay."
Shiloh softly smiled and joined Nini on the floor, "Don't worry about Ricky. I really liked your song."
"Thank you." Nini smiled, "How do you handle it? All eyes suddenly on you."
"I haven't yet. I don't think any of us have."
"Do you think you will?"
"Honestly? No. I think I've only realized how influential I can be. I tweeted that I hated raisins but not grapes and I started a whole debate with people I didn't know and didn't follow. My opinion matters to some people and I think I want to keep that for now."
"It's crazy. The feeling of being seen and people loving what you do."
"Yeah... I try my best to answer people's questions online and through my DMs, but I'm just one person who apparently got very lucky."
"You're good at what you do thought. People wouldn't just come to the club for nothing." Nini smiled, "Trust me if I could do stuff like you guys I wouldn't know how to control it. You keep everything in order. The Love Club wouldn't be the Love Club without Shiloh."
There was no Love Club without Shiloh. The Love Club wouldn't exist without Shiloh. The friends Shiloh made wouldn't be in her life without the Love Club. Whether Shiloh saw it or not, her club had a bigger impact on her life than expected. The club not only helped others but helped the member within. Making friends, becoming a family, becoming a family.
"You'll get used to... everything." Shiloh said, "It's overwhelming. The compliments, the complaints, the whatever's and more. It's all overwhelming and no one can really prepare you for the feelings you might have, but I think... someday if I still have what I have, that I'll have a better way of handling the stress of everything."
"You always find a way to things work. This won't be any different."
Shiloh smiled and stood from her spot, holding her hands out to help Nini to her feet.
"When you figure it out, I promise it'll click. Come on, I'm sure they're done now."
The two returned and joined the others backstage.
"No." Carlos chuckled.
"Nini's Rose Song." Seb smiled.
"Um... Sorry, not sorry, Wildcats, but if you perform her song in your show, you will be disqualified from the Menkies." Lily explained, "You can't alter the original Menken text."
"Well, let's just do it anyway. Stick to the plan and take the risk." Nini suggested.
"And risk letting them win? Isn't there a sports metaphor for this?" Carlos asked and drew his attention towards EJ.
EJ stood with his hands on his hips and his eyes opened wide, not saying anything as he stared at the ground.
"You were the only one to play a sport this semester and couldn't come up with anything on the spot?" Evie asked.
"I mean, what if the song didn't really fit in the show anyway, you know?" Ricky spoke, "Seems a little heavy."
Nini sighed and left the auditorium once again. The others followed out, Shiloh walking down the hall alone, not what she wanted but probably needed.
"Hey, can you come over later?" Ricky asked, jogging towards her, "My mom wants to take us sightseeing while we're in Chicago. She wants us to look at some spots that interest us the most."
"Can it wait until tomorrow? I'm really not in the... "excited about going on a trip with my boyfriend" mood right now."
"Is this about earlier?"
"I wish it wasn't."
"Why are you letting Lily get to you?"
"Because I know her intentions. From the start, she's only had it out for me because I didn't give her a chance at joining the club and now she only has the worst to say about it, my friends, and myself." Shiloh explained, "If I'm "overreacting" then maybe I'm the only one seeing what she's up to."
"What is she up to?"
Ricky was growing frustrated. Lily wasn't getting in the way of what he and Shiloh had, at least, he thought so, but that didn't mean Shiloh thought the same.
"The goal is to make me miserable, it wasn't her plan at the start, but now it is. She wants you and she is going to do anything to have you and I'm not-"
"Have me?"
"To date you, to get with you, to-"
"I don't want to be with Lily! I want to be with you!"
"I don't think you've made that clear enough for her."
Shiloh wasn't insecure about her relationship with Ricky, but she didn't know if he was clueless or he knew of Lily's intentions and simply did not know what to do.
"What do you want me to say?"
"You can say whatever you want. It won't change the fact that you said nothing back there. She still going to make advances like that and she doesn't care if you're in a relationship. I can't keep clarifying to her that you are not single. Unless there's something you want to say."
Ricky raised his brows. Had Lily cracked Shiloh? Well... depends on how you saw this situation. Lily had cracked Shiloh. She had made the girl think that Ricky didn't want anything to do with Shiloh anymore. Lily hadn't cracked Shiloh. Shiloh knew want Lily wanted and she wasn't going to Lily have it. Ricky was stunned by the last bit of Shiloh's sentence.
"Shiloh, I'm sorry I didn't say anything when she brought that up, but I am with you. I fell for Shiloh. No one else."
Sometimes sorry wasn't enough. Shiloh already had the ideas in her head. She couldn't make them go away that easily.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Ricky."
"Shiloh!"
Shiloh huffed and continued down the hall. Don't go back, don't look back; she told herself. If she looked back she would cry. If she went back she would listen to the same "I want to be with you" in various ways. She couldn't keep fighting for a relationship when she felt like Ricky wasn't doing the same. She was hurt, she was tired, and she was angry. She tried fighting for Dylan and it didn't work. She couldn't keep doing this if the other wasn't trying. That's what bothered her the most.
SHILOH SAT on her porch swing. The moon shining down as she gently swung back and forth. A blanket thrown over her shoulders and a book in her hands. The book? I Think I Love You by Auriane Desombre. It was about two teenagers, Sophia and Emma who were competing for a first-prize trip to a film festival in Los Angeles and maybe it was a rivalry turned romance.
She turned slightly as she heard the sounds of footsteps passing by her house. Evie came closer and closer into Shiloh's view, skipping their way towards Shiloh's.
"I don't care what Lily said. East High totally kicked North's as- hey, what's wrong?"
Shiloh shut her book and Evie joined her side.
"Just reading." She muttered.
"Good read?"
Shiloh nodded.
"What's going on? You seem down."
"Um, did I ever tell you why that fight with Ricky hurt my feelings a lot more than what it should've?"
"No. Naturally, just thought it was Ricky not being himself."
"Yeah, but... it was different. It wasn't like that time Ashlyn's. I didn't know I loved Ricky then, but now that I do... I know it's a scary thing to go through."
"What's scary?"
"The feeling of someone falling out of love with you."
"What?"
It wasn't what Evie thought Shiloh was going to say. They couldn't have known what Shiloh was going to say; anything but that.
"I've never thought I could be in love with someone. Dylan was horrible and EJ left before I got the chance, but Ricky's different."
"Then why do you think he's falling out of love with you? Ricky adores you. Ricky loves you. Why are you second guessing that?"
Evie watched as Shiloh sat in silence, twisting the bead bracelet that sat on her wrist. Her eyes burned red as she thought about what she had overheard Lily say in the auditorium earlier. "Sounds more like a girl who wants some space. Anyway, let me know if you're looking for one who doesn't."
"Lily... mentioned how she thinks I want space from him and if he was looking for someone who wasn't, he could let her know and he just stood there. I don't know if it was shock or if... he was genuinely thinking about it, but I know don't want to lose him, especially to her." She cried, "He just stood there, Evie. He said nothing. Him not saying anything, nothing at all... I don't know what to do. If he likes her I'm not gonna stand in the way of that."
"He doesn't like her, Shiloh."
"How do you know that?! You don't! I don't. It sucks, Evie. I really love Ricky and I don't know if I messed up or- because it seems like every guy I date hates what I've worked so hard for and maybe it's just me."
"Dylan sucks. Dylan didn't deserve you and neither did EJ. This will never be your fault. You put your everything in this club to help others; to put others before yourself and if no one can respect that, they can't respect you."
Shiloh sat in silence for a moment. She had the thought of Ricky not loving her anymore, especially when he had said it to her first and seemed so nervous to do so. She couldn't help but continue to think about the fight and the whole thing with Lily. He almost seemed to be defending her at that moment. Shiloh didn't care if she went in on the blonde, she messed with the wrong girl and the wrong friend group, but maybe that one incident caused her entire relationship with a guy she cared about deeply.
"I think I messed up. Maybe I didn't have to say all that stuff to or about Lily-"
"You were defending your friends, yourself, and your relationship. You have every right to protect that." Evie said, "I need you to know that what you said to Lily was okay. I would hope that you would continue to do things like that."
Evie knew it was hard for Shiloh to talk about her relationship. It was the whole point of Shiloh making the club in the first place. Evie wasn't going to let Shiloh go through something like this over and over again. They hated seeing her this way and if pushed came to shove someone was going to end up hurt and maybe she already was.
"This is what I want you to do." Evie started, "You're going to take a break from the club, just for a couple of days."
"I can't."
"You will. To focus on yourself. No phone, no nothing. I can't have you being this sad all the time. If anyone needs you they'll call your dads. If it's the club they can call me. If it's an interview, they can go to Mazzara. You matter the most. I don't you this sad. You are MIA just for a few days to be with yourself."
Shiloh took in a deep breath and nodded.
"Put yourself in front of others for a change." Evie smiled softly, "I promise it feels great."
The two of them sat there for a moment. Shiloh soft cries sounding awfully loud in the dark skies. The street lights hitting the sidewalks and the wind starting to pick itself up. Evie pulled Shiloh into their arms and allowed the girl to rest her head on their shoulders.
Shiloh Molina was tired, hardworking, and was willing to overwork herself to satisfy the masses. She couldn't tell you the last time she took a break from the club or the last time she actually had done something for herself.
Shiloh Molina needed a break and she was- and Evie was going to make sure she got that break.
