ELEVEN. the guy who runs or the guy who stays
SHILOH WAS allowed an hour break from set and during that time she decided to work on her Love Club stuff with Ashley and see if Ashley has any romantic interest in Mack before things went too far.
Shiloh, for once, had her hair down with her extremely long extensions covering her face as she looked down at the blank slate of a table on front of her.
She had her hand pressed against her forehead as she had the phone pressed against her ear once more in hope of getting in contact with Ricky, but once again she waited and waited and was sent to voicemail.
She heavily sighed, leaning back into her chair and crossing her arms over her chest as Ricky's voicemail rang in her ears.
"Hey, it's Ricky! But you knew that! Sorry I missed your call... I doubt I'll call back."
She waited for the dial tone before speaking. "Hey, Rick. I'm pretty sure I figured out a way for G, Tori, and I to be apart of the musical while doing the movie." She paused, slumping further down her seat, "I hope you're okay wherever you are. And that you're safe.... can you please call me back? I love you."
With that she ended the voicemail before standing up, brushing her red, high waisted skirt and opening the door to the club.
To her surprise, Seb Matthew-Smith stood on the other side of her door. She could've sworn she had written down Carlos for the small hour she had left, but it didn't look like he would showing anytime soon.
"Hey, Seb." Shiloh softly smiled, "I didn't know you were—"
"I know and I'm sorry for barging in on you, but is it okay if I talk to you?"
Shiloh only nodded before stepping to the side and allowing the distraught boy into her clubroom.
She pulled Seb's folder from her cabinet before sitting down at the table with him.
"What do you want to talk about?"
Seb looked up, his face flushed. "I finally talked to Carlos at Gina's party."
Shiloh nodded, "That's good—"
"Not good." He cut, "I wasn't ignoring him because I was afraid he was cheating on me. In fact, a part of me wish he was."
Shiloh furrowed her brows in confusion, but she was dense. From his tone and how he stated his sentence... it made her think and truly if was she thought was true, she would be completely shocked beyond belief.
"Seb? Shiloh ushered.
"I cheated on Carlos."
"Oh."
"With Big Red."
"Oh..."
Shiloh tilted her head to the side with her mouth slightly agape. Of course, cheaters and their counterparts had walked in and out of the clubroom, but never in Shiloh's mind (up until 10 minutes ago) would she ever think that Seb and Big Red would cheat on Ashlyn and Carlos.
Yet again, Ashlyn had almost kissed Maddox at Gina's party so, made the feeling was mutual between them.
Regardless, Shiloh tapped her pen on the table as it twirled between her fingers. She pursed her lips as Seb sat in front of her waiting for her to say absolutely anything.
"When did this happen?" She asked.
Seb sighed, "During the summer. We went to see that new Harry Styles movie and things just happened so quickly." He continued, "But we talked after and I told him that it meant nothing to me."
Shiloh nodded, licking her teeth as her pin tapped rapidly against the table.
The saying: once a cheater, always a cheater didn't sit quite right with the club. Obviously, people can change but serial cheaters can form.
The situation was tough. Seb seemed genuinely sorry that he'd cheated and that was his purpose of staying away from Carlos, but, once again, he had cheated.
So, Shiloh sighed, running her fingers through her hair before shutting Seb's folder.
"The best thing I can tell you is that you've got to talk to Carlos about this and if he's upset and turned off by it, you've got to give him space." She said, "Being cheated on sucks and you have to understand that Carlos may feel some type of way about you and Big Red."
Seb took in a deep breath, his poster still as stiff as a board as he looked at the girl in front of him.
"And whatever happens next, I do wish you and Carlos the absolute best." Shiloh softly smiled, resting her hand on top of his.
Seb gave her a small, yet drooped smile and gave her hand a small squeeze. He thanked her once more before getting up from his seat and leaving the club.
Shiloh slumped down in her seat, grabbing her phone as it flashed a picture of her and Ricky as her lockscreen.
And for a moment, just for a moment, she sat there and just looked at it.
No missed calls, no text.
Maybe she should worry about her own relationship before deep diving into others.
But she didn't have time to worry because an email notification popped up on her screen.
An email from Duke and UCLA, in which she had no time to read because she was once again pulled from her clubroom, her second safe haven, and onto set to get another shot in.
"You okay?" Victoria asked.
Shiloh looked over at her sister, her mind racing on what the emails could've entailed, where the hell her boyfriend was, and whatever was going on with Seb, Carlos, the movie, and the musical.
"Shiloh," Victoria called again, "you there?"
"Yeah, yeah." She answered, her hands running down her skirt, "I'm good. Just a lot going on."
Shiloh pressed her back against the wall as she and Mack waited for any further instructions.
"Okay, listen up." Quinn called, "I just learned that Mack, Gina, and Victoria are all minors. So legally, I have to wrap them in five minutes."
Shiloh pushed herself off of the wall, her hands clasping behind her back. "It's just one more scene. I'm sure we can get it done, right?"
"One important scene that requires multiple setups to capture the range of admittedly limited character emotions in the script." Quinn explained, "I've done the math. We'll never make it."
"Can't we do one of those one take things?" Shiloh asked. "I've been watching and dancing at this school for... arguably a year. I'm sure I can just walk the Steadicam operator through every move."
"Boom!" Mack exclaimed, "Always down for a oner. Let's do this!"
"That is virtually impossible to achieve without a rehearsal. But given what we've done today, sure, let's try it." Quinn laughed, "Take that, Maria Jay. Besides, how heavy can a Steadicam be?"
Quinn left, leaving Shiloh, Mack, and the camera operator behind as they prepared themselves for the scene.
Shiloh sighed, brushing her hair behind her ear. "Okay, just think of it like the scene in High School Musical 3 where Troy and Gabriella are dancing on the rooftop."
"Is that the only musical you know?" Mack asked.
Shiloh smiled, "No, but I've seen it more times on the last couple of months than anything else, so, do what you want with that info." She looked over. "Just... follow my lead."
"And... Action!" Quinn called.
Shiloh as Bailey, grabbed Mack's hand as the cameraman followed in front as they made their way into the classroom.
"For the past three years, it's been you and me."
Mack as Sam, smiled. "And I wouldn't change a thing."
They made their way out of the classroom and into the staircase. Shiloh looking up at Mack as he stood on top of a higher step than her.
She smiled up at him as he spoke to her, "Besides, I'm too proud of the fact that I get to be Bailey Johnson's boyfriend."
"I'm proud, too." She smiled.
Mack looked down at the girl, kissing her for a moment before Quinn loudly called cut.
Shiloh quickly turned, making her way down the steps and towards Quinn.
"Did we get it?" She asked.
"That is a wrap on Mack, Shiloh, and Gina for the day." Quinn cheered.
Shiloh clasped her hands together as she turned to face Mack. The boy pulling her into a tight hug as the others around the clapped and cheered.
"Nice work." Quinn praised before leaving the duo alone.
Shiloh held her smile as Victoria and Gina ventured to their side and Tori handed the girl her phone.
The smile still on her face as she had various notifications from various different things, but nothing from Ricky.
She licked her lips, her smile dropping as she looked at her screen. She sighed softly to herself as she looked over at Mack.
"Thanks for running with my idea today. If we didn't get this done, they would've canceled the school musical and... it means a lot to my friends." She sighed, "It's a lot to explain, but—"
"Jonathan!"
Shiloh, Mack, and Gina all looked up and over at Tori and Shiloh's older brother as he made his way over to them.
Shiloh furrowed her brows as her brother made her way closer to them.
Tori was quick to meet him halfway and basically throw herself into a hug. Their relationship was pretty rock solid as well as with her other siblings, but, at the moment, Shiloh and Jonathan weren't on a great stand with each other, especially with how Jonathan was treating Ricky.
"What are you doing here?" Tori asked, letting Jonathan out of her hold.
"Heard Shiloh was speeding her scenes." He smiled. "Wanted to see how fast she could get it done."
Shiloh nodded, crossing her arms, "Last time you came to something of mine I was only on stage for two seconds." She sighed, "You missed me on stage for Frozen."
"Hollywood is different." Jonathan chuckled, harshly rubbing the top of Shiloh's hair, "And I've seen what you did today. You were great." He smiled, "You were all great."
Shiloh only nodded. "Well, thanks, but now that's over, I can focus on the musical and being Gabriella."
Jonathan turned, seeing Mack judging standing to the side. "I'm Jonathan. Shiloh and Victoria's brother." Mack took his hand, gently shaking it. "Our parents are having our big sit down dinner to celebrate Shiloh and Tori's day. You should come over. I mean, Gina is."
"Because Gina and Tori are dating." Shiloh quipped, but Jonathan raised his hand in the air, literally waving the girl off and waited for Mack's answer.
"Look, Gina, Tori, and I have to get to rehearsals in 15 minutes anyways, and I'm sure the last thing Mack wants is to sit at a table with eleven other people."
"Actually, a home-cooked meal sounds kind of fire."
Shiloh ran her hands over her face, leaning into Mack's side, "Miss. Jenn really needs enough people to—"
"Hey," Mack smiled, turning towards her, "you just saved that lady's musical. I'm sure she could people who can fill in for one more day."
"Her name is Miss. Jenn." Shiloh muttered, "I need you to learn that."
"Shiloh." Jonathan called.
Shiloh shut her eyes, heavily sighing before licking her lips and looking over at Gina and Tori who only held tight lip and shrugged their shoulders.
There's absolutely no getting out of this.
THUDER HIT EJ's window hard as he and Ricky sat on the floor eating whatever they managed to scraped up from a local joint.
Ricky sighed, looking over at EJ. "Hey, I'm sorry for showing up and dropping on you earlier. You didn't ask for that. And—"
Ricky was cut off when EJ threw his trash at the boy. Ricky only sat there as EJ threw his trash and stared at him as he stood.
"Actually, I think you're done talking for a minute, okay?"
"What?" Ricky scoffed.
EJ rubbed his hands against his pants, pacing around his room. "What would Shiloh say?" He muttered to himself, "I validate everything you're saying—"
"She wouldn't say that." Ricky said.
"Shut up." EJ scoffed, "Shiloh is and forever will be a great girl and I didn't realize what I had lost until it was gone. She let me move on without question and when you thought you had lost her because she thought you were in love with her anymore, you let her go because you thought it was good for her. But if I'm being honest with you, dude, there are a lot of things that I would've done different. I wish I would've stood up for my dad sooner. I wish I had spent last summer having more fun, I... There are just so many things that I didn't get right."
"I had no idea." Ricky muttered.
"Look, the point is, sometimes things don't work out. And our job is to just shake it off and hold on to some hope for what's next." EJ paused, "Look... My time at East High is over. And I am so proud of who I am and who I've become. And I do love what has come next. But, dude, there is nothing in this world like high school. Nothing. And I promise you, you will never meet another family like the Wildcats. Take 'em in, love 'em. Because honestly, one of the biggest reasons I stay so busy is because I miss it every single day. And you will, too, Ricky. I promise you. It happens to every single one of us.
Ricky sighed, tears forming in his eyes, "Yeah."
"And look, dude, I think there are plenty of people who do more than just worry about you. But you have to let them. I mean, you have to actually pick up your phone, reach out and stop feeling so sorry for yourself."
"That's not..."
"And look, Shiloh is the best." EJ said, sitting back down on the floor, "And I know I hurt her, but I'm with the way that things worked out. But I promise you she wouldn't be with you if she didn't see the guy you could be. I have never, ever seen her happier with someone until she met you. And if you throw away the love she has for you now, if you give up on it, on her, if... If you hurt her... like I had, like Dylan had... I will never forgive you."
"But..."
"No buts, Ricky." EJ sighed, "You think that you're the guy that runs away and that's just some personality trait that you have to be stuck with forever. You know, something bad happens and you hide. Like, opening night of HSM. And the crazy thing is that you think you're actually helping the other person, but you know what?"
"I'm actually hurting them?" He cried.
"No, you're actually hurting yourself. Look, you can be the guy who runs. You can be. Plenty of people do. But is anybody gonna show up for that guy? You still have plenty of time to change that."
"How?" Ricky sobbed.
"Shiloh has always been bad at telling people how she feels up until she felt threatened by Lily and even then she was scared. She was so scared to lose you and when she did, she believed that it was all over." EJ said. "And when she's hurt, people notice, especially Jonathan, but during premier of our documentary, she put herself out there and told you exactly how she felt. And if you want to change that, change who you are, change how you feel about yourself, you better start speaking your mind to the people you care about. Like right now."
