EIGHT. after the storm where the flowers bloom
SHILOH FOLDED up another blanket to take back to the bomb shelter. Ashley tucked right by her side as she watched the snow hit the windows over and over again.
"Rock, paper, scissors on who tells Shiloh about Ricky and Gina." Evie said, holding a fist out; Jenna following suit.
"Are you two crazy?" Madison asked, "This is Shiloh we're talking about. Remember that one time where she found out that Dylan had been talking to that one blond girl when they first started dating and Dylan didn't tell her?"
"What blond girl?" Jenna questioned.
"Exactly. This is Shiloh Molina we're talking about. She doesn't want to hear this from us. She wants to hear this from her boyfriend who, by the way, isn't here to say anything."
"I still think rock, paper, scissors is our best bet." Evie sighed.
"Hey, guys." Shiloh called, "Can you help me? Ashley has a stronger grip than what I remember."
"Does this not scare any of you?" Ashley asked, "We're stuck at school with Mr. Mazzara! I could be home! I could be away from this place, crying, but no, I'm here! The snowstorm-"
"Is going to go away." Shiloh reassured. She threw one of the blankets over Ashley's head, "Grip onto this for now. We're almost done here. If I can get more help that is."
Shiloh began to grab more things out of the closet, her soul focus on getting something for everyone and getting back to the bomb shelter.
"So, is it rock, paper, scissors, shoot or no shoot at all?" Evie asked.
"No." Madison muttered.
"Okay, so just the rock, paper-"
"No, period. This is stupid. I'm sure Ricky will tell her."
"The same Ricky Bowen that asked us to help him and Shiloh get together?" Evie questioned, "Yeah, I'm sure Lover Boy Bowen is going to tell Shiloh that he got Gina chocolates on Valentine's Day."
"But he didn't?"
"But why would Gina think Ricky would do that?" Jenna asked.
"Why are you guys still not helping me?" Shiloh questioned, "Can someone at least see if there's a portable charger in the chest?"
"Noes goes." Jenna whispered, placing her finger on the tip of her nose, Evie following close behind, "Wow, Mads, you're slow. Come up with something. Shiloh would be happy to hear about your Valentine's Day."
"Oh, the Valentine's Day I spent alone? Sure, she'll love it."
Madison rolled her eyes as she opened the chest and found the charger in the chest. She tapped on Shiloh's shoulder and handed her the charger.
"Hey, Shi? I have a question."
"I'm listening."
Madison glanced back at Evie and Jenna who shrugged their shoulders, "So, someone came to me about some advice because Evie was a little busy and I wanted to get your opinion on it before I send that advice out."
Shiloh nodded, standing from her spot with Ashley scooting closer to the two.
"So, this girl got a Valentine's Day gift from someone and she thought that this guy gave it to her, but apparently he didn't."
"Is she upset that it's not from him?"
"Uh, I don't really know. What I do know is that the guy is in a relationship with another girl."
"So, this one girl thinks a guy in a relationship got her a Valentine's Day gift?" Shiloh questioned.
"Exactly. I just wanted some input from the Love Club girl herself."
Shiloh held a small smile, "If I were in that situation I would hope Ricky would talk to me about it, you know? Like, if he got some other girl a gift I would want him to talk to me about it first. But, why would this girl think that a guy she knows is a relationship get her a gift? That's odd, don't you think?"
"So odd." Madison chuckled, "Super odd actually."
"I mean, if the girl knew that this guy was in a serious relationship why would he get someone else a Valentine's Day gift? Unless there are some more layers to the story."
"I wouldn't know. Unless this was before you and-"
"Me?"
Madison took in a deep breath.
"Did Ricky get someone else a gift on Valentine's Day?"
Evie hit Madison's arm and pushed her to the side, "No. It's just- we wanted to know if Ricky was with you that whole day. Especially with how Dylan treated you during those times."
"Oh." Shiloh chuckled, "You could've just asked. No need to fake a scenario. Scared me for a second. I would hate to cry twice in a day." She laughed.
"Yeah, we would hate that." Evie said.
Shiloh sent the group a small smile and faced the closet again.
Evie hit Madison on the shoulder again, "Nice going, Sherlock."
"If I wasn't forced then maybe things would've gone smoothly."
"I think you did great up until the last half." Jenna reassured.
"I think that's everything we have." Shiloh said, "Jenna grab the snack box, Evie get the blankets, and Madison carry this. I don't know what portable chargers work or not."
"What are you carrying?" Evie asked.
Shiloh held her and Ashley's hand up in the air, "The baby."
The five club members left the club room and ventured back towards the bomb shelter. Jenna held a faster pace than the others and as she rounded the corner she had scared herself back.
She had noticed Big Red, Ricky, and Gina a few inches in front of her. She whipped around and noticed Shiloh whispering reassurance towards Ashley.
Evie pulled away from her conversation with Madison and looked over at Jenna.
"Ricky, Gina, and Big Red." She mouthed and gestured towards the corner.
Ever turned and bumped right into Shiloh.
"Are you okay?" Shiloh asked.
"I think I left my phone in the room. Can you go see for me?"
Shiloh nodded, "Here, take the baby."
Ashley quickly grabbed Evie's hand, "Okay, Hulk. Didn't realize your grip had gotten this strong." Evie complained.
"Good luck."
Shiloh turned and headed back towards the club room. As soon as she was out of sight, the others (dragging Ashley) rounded the corner meeting with Big Red, Ricky, and Gina.
"Look, more input." Big Red smiled, "The Love Club would know exactly what's good and what's not."
"Dude, don't!" Ricky said.
"On Valentine's Day, Ricky and Shiloh finally said the big L-word to each other and-"
"Wait what?" Evie questioned.
Jenna smiled, "OMG! Really?!"
"Yeah, but listen." Big Red said, "So, Ricky wants to post this whole long speech for Shiloh on Instagram-"
"Dude, it's not..."
"What's the speech?" Gina asked.
"Big Red!"
"He basically wants to post some mushy couple stuff that will, "let everyone know that I love this girl"."
Gina chuckled, "Mmm, yeah, don't ever."
"Well, I mean, it's Shiloh." Evie started, "Do you really think you need to post all of that for her?"
"Thanks. And sorry. We didn't mean to suck any of you into a whole thing."
"We're the Love Club. We've been sucked into a lot of things lately." Madison smiled.
"Nah, it's all good. I'm honestly glad I ran into you." Gina smiled, "I found part of a Twix bar near my locker, and I can only assume it's your latest Valentine to me."
"I go big, Gina. You know that." Ricky laughed.
"Haha." Jenna chuckled, "So funny."
"Yeah, I would also love to keep talking about Valentine's Day gifts I didn't get either." Evie said.
"Oh, really?" Big Red smiled, "Well Ashlyn and I-"
"Biggie, there you are." Ashlyn called, "Way to abandon the fam in a crisis!"
"We're coming now. Told you it was a bad idea."
"Whatever. Shut up."
Big Red, Ashlyn, and Ricky headed off and back to the bomb shelter. Leaving Evie, Ashley, Madison, Jenna, and Gina alone in the hall.
"What's going on?" Evie asked, "You know, I'm the one in the Love Club that can help with any and all relationship matters. What's up with you and Ricky and this Valentine's Day gift."
"As I said before it's not a big deal."
"There's gotta be a reason you thought Ricky, a guy with a girlfriend, got you a Valentine's Day gift."
"My mom got me the gift. I went to Ricky's earlier that day and we talked. I thought he got me the gift. Is it that big of a deal?"
"To me?" Evie asked, "Yeah, Shiloh is like my sister and I would really hate to see her hurt. We're not going to tell Shiloh anything because, at the end of the day, she's going to be hurt. I would really hate to be the shoulder she cries on."
"I still don't see the big deal." Gina said.
"I think that Shiloh would like to talk to about it." Jenna reassured, "I mean, if you just tell her that you thought the gift was from Ricky."
"Why would she care? He didn't get me the gift."
"But may-maybe if you just tell Shiloh?"
Madison huffed, "We're the Love Club. We're trusted. Nothing goes to anyone unless you want it to. You can tell and we won't tell Shiloh or you can tell Shiloh and not us. The choice is yours, Gina."
Gina glanced between the four of them. The only one not in focus was Ashley. Her eyes shut and whispering reassurance to herself.
"Nothing goes to Shiloh?" She questioned.
Evie smiled, "Nothing unless you want it to. Shiloh is the leader. She created the club rules. One of those rules being we keep things in confidentiality. You don't want Shiloh to know from us, she doesn't have to know."
Gina sighed, "Fine. It started after Homecoming."
SHILOH FUMBLED with the keys on her keychain and once she found the key to the club room she looked up and saw EJ preparing to knock on the door.
"EJ? You know Ashlyn is scared half to death because she doesn't know where you are."
"I'll apologize for that later. Right now, I think I need some Love Club advice."
Shiloh opened the door to the club room and allowed EJ to walk in before her. EJ sat down in a chair and Shiloh grabbed a blanket from the closet, throwing it over his shoulders.
"What's up, Caswell?"
"I didn't get into Duke."
"Oh, EJ. I'm sorry. Duke doesn't know what they're missing out on."
"It's just... my parents met at Duke and my grandparents also met at Duke. We're a Duke family. We have Duke blood in our veins."
"Is it weird if I tell you a story about the time you and started dating?"
"Possibly."
Shiloh rolled her eyes, "I'm giving you my best advice. When you and I were together, you talked about Duke a lot and I began to wonder if you would wait for me at Duke. I was going to apply when the time came."
"You wanted to go to Duke?"
"I wanted to go to Duke for you." Shiloh smiled, "My at-the-time boyfriend wanted to go to Duke and I was willing to follow. So, EJ, are you upset because you wanted to go to Duke for you or because of your bloodline?"
EJ took in a deep breath and glanced up at Shiloh who still kept her small smile.
"EJ, I know getting into Duke was a dream for you, but maybe that wasn't your dream in the first place. Expect the unexpected. Duke will forever be missing out on EJ Caswell, but I know another school is willing to take you in with open arms."
"Thanks, Shiloh. We're you really going to go to Duke for me?"
"If it meant being with you? Yes, I was. It took you breaking up with me to realize that I don't need to follow others around. I'm going to do what I wanna do."
"That's good. Proud of you."
"Come on, EJ. People are worried about you."
SHILOH AND EJ went their separate ways. Shiloh pulled her phone out of her pocket and began texting the Love Club group chat to let them know that she couldn't find Evie's phone.
Shiloh entered the bomb shelter and took her seat next to Ricky.
"How many hours have we been here?" Seb asked.
"All of them." Kourtney answered.
"Anyone wanna play Charades again?" The group quickly groaned at Seb's suggestion, "Sounds like no."
"You guys, if we eventually run out of food, I just wanna say, you can eat me first." Big Red suggested.
"Yeah, because I'm sure we would love to taste the pizza grease on your skin." Madison said.
"Hey, whose phone charger is this?" Ricky asked.
"I'm at six percent." Kourtney said, "You wanna fight me for it?"
Shiloh dug through one of the boxes and found another portable charger inside and handed it off to Ricky.
"You guys, this cabin fever isn't good. What would Miss. Jenn do right now?"
"Call us." Jenna smiled.
"Where are our choreographers?" Big Red asked, "Shouldn't we be rehearsing a song?"
"Maybe the sweat you produce will heat you up." Evie laughed.
"I wanna believe they're quietly working out their differences somewhere." Ashlyn said.
"Have you met Carlos?"
"Have you met Gina?"
"Maybe they're already laughing about it."
"Jenna, you're the friend guru. Go check on them." Shiloh said.
"Why not you?"
Shiloh lifted her hand, still attached to Ashley's.
"Fine, but only because it's my duty as the friend guru."
Jenna grabbed a flashlight from the ground and headed out to find Carlos and Gina.
Several minutes had passed and soon enough Gina, Carlos, and Howie (the guy Kourtney had been fawning over for quite some time now) had come into the bomb shelter with pizzas. The only person not with them was Jenna.
"Hey, hold her hand for a moment." Shiloh said, passing Ashley off to Evie.
"Shiloh! She's the Hulk!"
"Suffer for five minutes, Shazam."
"Giving people nicknames is my thing, theft."
Shiloh rolled her eyes and grabbed a flashlight off the ground. Heading off into the hallway, her search for Jenna wasn't long as she found the girl pacing around in a circle rapidly tying on her phone.
"Jenna? Howie brought pizza. Wanna join?"
"I'm dropping the musical."
Shiloh quickly adjusted herself, "What?"
"I went looking for Gina and I stole that part from her. She wanted Belle so I'm giving it to her. It's rightfully her's in the first place, plus I can actually work on Love Club stuff with you guys. It all works out."
"No, it doesn't all work out. You got Belle fair and square. Miss. Jenn chose you because she saw how great of a Belle you can and will be."
"Shiloh, I don't need to be in the musical. It's not that big of a deal. Besides, I miss hanging out with all of you."
"Is that what you really want to do, Jenna?"
Jenna sighed, "No."
"Be proud of yourself, Jenna. I know Gina probably feels down about not being the lead, who wouldn't? You got that part fair and square. You're Belle, be proud of that."
Jenna only nodded as Shiloh pulled her into a hug, kissing her forehead as she did so.
"Can we go?"
"Yeah, I'll take you home. Might as well take Ashley also."
Jenna and Shiloh made their way back to the bomb shelter where Jenna began packing her things and Shiloh grabbing her keys from the box.
"Hey, I'm gonna take Jenna and Ashley home."
Ricky glanced up from his spot, pizza halfway in his mouth, "Are they okay?"
"Jenna's not feeling that great and Ashley... is Ashley. She's scared so I'm just gonna drop them off at home and go home myself."
"Okay, just call me when you get home."
Shiloh nodded and kissed Ricky goodbye.
"Hey, remember what I said." Ricky smiled, holding her hand.
"Yes, I will. I will talk to Principal Gutierrez tomorrow."
"Good. I love you." Ricky smiled.
"I love you very much." Shiloh smiled, "I'll call you when I'm home."
It didn't go unnoticed by Evie and Madison on how Gina stared at the happy couple.
Gina Porter had spilled her guts out to the four Love Club members and now they felt like they were stuck in between a rock and a hard place.
AFTER SHILOH dropped of a shaken Ashley and a worried Jenna. She had finally made it home.
She shut her car door and ruffled her hair out of her face. Jingle her keys as she made her way up the porch.
"Shiloh?"
Her name being called scared her and caused her to drop her keys.
"I'm sorry," Nini apologized, "I didn't mean to scare you."
"No, no, it's okay. I just... actually why are you here? My dads were home you could've come inside."
"Seeing everyone today made me realized how much I missed everyone and everything here."
"YAC isn't the dream?"
"YAC was the dream."
Shiloh smiled, "At least you tried it. Proud of you, Nini."
"Is it okay if I spend the night? Do a little catch up on everything that's been going on?"
"Yeah, it might be a little loud, but you're always welcomed."
Nini hadn't even noticed the loud noise coming from inside the household. The next thing she did notice was Shiloh's father, Joseph Montgomery opened the door.
Shiloh smiled at her father who stared down at the two teens, "Tea or hot chocolate?" He asked.
Shiloh glanced at Nini who held her small smile.
"Hot chocolate is fine."
