Chapter 4 - A Home Found
Ok, I'm back. Two days late, but back. Enjoy chapter 4!
"How do we do that? We are most likely an absurdly far way away from the rest of them," said Aurum. "We use the Slip Zone," Xelqua said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Aurum looked even more confused. "What's that?"
"A more forgiving void. I use it to travel a lot. All you have to do is travel so fast that reality cracks around you. I've gotten used to accelerating quickly enough that I can get there instantly.
Xelqua said all of this as if he were explaining the fact that breathing is important. Aurum just stared at him, more thinking he was trying to explain quantum physics to a kindergarten student. "So," Aurum said slowly, "if we travel fast enough, we can get into this 'Slip Zone?'"
Xelqua smiled and nodded. He held out his hand to Aurum, and as soon as Aurum grabbed it, accelerated into the air with his wings, with Aurum screaming at the sudden lack of earth. Xelqua just laughed at his friend's worry. "You'll be fine. I've done this about a hundred times, and I haven't died once."
This just worried Aurum more. "YOU CAN'T DIE," he screamed, "YOU ARE IMMORTAL!" Xelqua continued to smile. He turned so he was facing horizontally, and shot off, getting faster and faster, before everything went dark. Well, almost everything.
Aurum stared at Xelqua, and he blushed a bit. "You never thought it prudent to mention that your hair glows?" Xelqua mumbled a bit, and this time Aurum smiled. "Don't worry," he said, "I think it's cute." Xelqua blushed even more at this comment. "I chose not to mention it largely because it's weird. I mean, who has glowing hair? It's been a thing since I was born."
Aurum tousled his hair. "As I said, it's cute." Xelqua smiled a bit again and then dropped Aurum. He didn't fall at all. He just kind of crumpled onto the ground. Xelqua folded his wings and went down next to him. He found Aurum panting, startled from the shock.
"I thought I was going to fall. But then I didn't. What is this place?" "Welcome to the Slip Zone," said Xelqua, "Where everything is just a thought away." Xelqua snapped, and a large, well-furnished living room appeared. Aurum frowned, and the room became almost like a large aquarium, with glass lining the walls, floor, and ceiling, and fish swimming behind it.
"Whoah! Did I just do that?" "Yep," replied Xelqua, "Now here's what I often use this for." He closed his eyes, and said, out loud, "Argentum" A small window appeared in front of them, showing Gem leading the Watchers through the End Wastelands.
"Now, while we can see him, he can't see us," said Xelqua, "but, if one of us were to step out of the window, he would see us, and we would have to come back here." Xelqua stepped out, and even though he could no longer see Aurum, gestured to him to also come out.
Gem turned around and jumped when he saw his brother and friend standing next to him, with no logical explanation of how they got there. "What on earth? Where did you come from?" "The Slip Zone," they replied in sync. "What's that," responded Gem. Xelqua grabbed him and Aurum, and within a second, they were back in the unending blackness.
"Where the heck are we? Also, why is your hair glowing?" "First, not a word about my hair, and second, like I said," said Xelqua, "The Slip Zone. It's a place where anything is possible, and traveling is easy. All you have to do is say the name of the person or place you want to see, and a little window opens up. Aurum, say the first name, not Gem or I, that comes to mind."
"Charlie," he said, not hesitating. A window opened, showing a man building what looked like a tower. Gem's eyes widened, as he stepped through the window. "Oh, no, I wouldn't-" Xequa tried to say, but it was too late. Charlie turned, and upon seeing Gem, fell off the tower. He used an elytra to get back up, but he was still wide-eyed with shock.
"Gem?" He asked, his voice full of confusion. "What are you, HOW are you here? Is Aurum and Xel here too?" Xelqua sighed, and stepped through the window, pulling Aurum along with him. "Hi Charlie," the sandy-haired man said, "How've you been the past couple hundred years?"
"I- good. I've been good. What about y'all. How have you been." They all said different positive things. They talked for a bit, with Charlie discussing how things had shifted over the years, and how he had managed to keep all of the Watcher's old builds safe.
"Ok, so how did you get here? You haven't told me." "I was demonstrating a travel method to Aurum and Gem, and in doing so, opened a window to you. Gem stepped through, and here we are. Anyway, we should probably go."
Aurum gave Charlie a quick hug and then nodded to Xelqua. Xelqua grabbed both Aurum and Gem, but before going, turned to Charlie. "At our old base," he said, "there's a staircase. Go down that staircase, and find a portal. You'll know what it is when you see it. Jump into it. Bring weapons."
And with that, the three Watchers returned to the Slip Zone. Once they were there, Gem turned to the other two Watchers. "I think," he said, "that we should live here. If you think about it, it's well fit for what we need. It's infinite, and, you can watch anyone or anything."
Xelqua considered, and nodded. "We can also make it look like whatever we want. I think this will work." Aurum raised his hand. Xelqua pointed to him, "Yes Aurum?" "How are we going to get everyone here. There's about 500 of them and only 1 of you." Xelqua opened and closed his mouth a few times.
"That," he said, "is a valid point. I suppose, hope a Watcher has teleportation powers? That's about the best I can do for you." A window opened to the rest of the Watchers, and the three of them stepped through it.
Xelqua waved to get the Watchers to quiet down. "Ok. We have a new place for us to live. It's easier to control but to get everyone there, we need teleportation. Does anyone have the power of teleportation?" Out of everyone, only one Watcher raised their hand.
Xelauq smiled. "Perfect," he said, "would you mind coming up here?" The Watcher popped up next to Xelqua. He had black hair with headphones over them, a blue hoodie, and multicolored armbands on his arms. "What's your name," Xelqua said. "Umm," he said nervously, "Taurtis?" Xelqua's smile widened. "Are you sure? You don't sound so sure?"
Taurtis nodded "I'm just a bit nervous. Besides when I was recruited, I never really talk to y'all, and you're just important, and I never expected to be doing something for you..." he said, trailing off. Xelqua's smile widened as far as it could. "Well," he said, "you are going to be very helpful to all of us. Grab my hand."
Taurtis obliged, taking the older Watcher's hand. Xelqua took him up into the air, slower than he normally would, to not scare him too much. "This is going to feel a little weird, but as long as you don't freak out," he gave a pointed glance to Aurum, "you'll be fine." Xelqua sped up as quick as he could, breaking into the Slip Zone.
"Welcome to the Slip Zone," said Xelqua, "Where you will be living. Until we move, if we do. The nice thing is that just by envisioning what you want, you can change this place to look it. And it's infinite, so space isn't an issue. Now, are you able to teleport mass amounts of Watchers here?" Taurtis thought and then nodded.
"Can you go back and leave me here? I'll be able to do teleportation centralized onto you." Xelqua nodded, opened a Window to Aurum, and climbed through. He nodded in the direction of Taurtis, even though he couldn't see him. Xelqua felt a tingly feeling running through him, and then, he popped into the Slip Zone.
Xelqua floated up and called to the Watchers. "Welcome," he said, "to the Slip Zone. Your home for the next several millennia. In a bit, I will explain how to personalize it soon, but for now, sort of talk amongst yourself, try to sleep if you want. If you get lost, just think about traveling to me, and a window will open. Step through that, and you'll be back."
Xelqua floated back down to stand next to Aurum and Gem. He gave Aurum a small hug. "Thanks for helping with the End," he said, "and I'm sorry for pushing you through the portal." Aurum hugged him back, saying, "apology accepted. And while we might have lost a home, this is a home found."
I hope you enjoyed that chapter. Took me a bit to write, but I like this chapter. Also, the fact that Grian's (Xelqua's) hair glows is just a random detailed. Based off of Will in Trials of Apollo. Mayyyyybeeeeeeeee? (Yes) Also, just a reminder, Aurum and Gem (which is short for Argentum) are my characters. So Gem is not GeminiTay (he's also a boy), and don't go looking for similarities in Aurum (or Gem) and anyone else. You won't find them. Also, in super soon (at least 30 minutes) I'm publishing a Scar oneshot. It's called a Little Bit of Magic. It's based in Season 7 during the Turf War. It's an idea I've had since seeing an animation, which I'll link below, and in the comments. So yeah.
(If you enjoy the chapter, maaaaybeeee a like and a comment? Maybbeeeeee?)
Here's the video:
Also, Scar himself commented saying how much he liked it.
(spends 10 minutes trying to figure out how to put a video in)
