TW: Character Death
It had been several years since the first attack, and now the Watcher's army was standing in front of the final dragon. They stared in awe at the beast, for it was truly magnificent.
After a second they shook it off and put up what they called a reality shield. It would block anything from altering reality inside of it. It didn't block anybody from going anywhere, but it did stop the dragons from using their powers.
"Well," Bellum said, "let's go." The army got ready to charge, but just as they were about to a purple force field appeared in front of them. They turned around to see Xelqua with his hands outstretched, a determined look on his face. "What are you doing?" Bellum spat, his words cutting across Xelqua like the knives he used.
"The right thing," responded the older Watcher, "This dragon doesn't need to die. We've killed enough. Let me protect it." He turned to Gem and Aurum, his eyes pleading. "We've killed enough. If this dragon dies, the species is dead. Don't let that happen." Gem nodded.
"I'll help you," he turned to the rest of the gathered Watchers, "Do not harm this dragon. Doing so will result in immediate release from the Watchers." Bellum laughed at this proclamation and, taking advantage of Xelqua's moment of distraction, ran at the dragon. Xelqua whipped around, and, in a moment of panic, shot a bolt of purple magic at Bellum.
It hit him square in the back and he collapsed onto the ground, unmoving. Xelqua ran to him, and when he got there he found him still just lying there. He placed his hand on Bellum's chest and his heart dropped. He was dead. And it was his fault.
He turned to the gathered crowd and shook his head. "Dead," he pronounced, "Bellum has been killed." The uproar that came from the crowd was immense. Several people called for his removal from the Watchers, most calling for some sort of punishment, and one or two called out that he should also be killed. "Can you bring him back?" asked a Watcher. Xelqua shook his head. "You can't reverse Watcher magic. Bellum is dead for good."
The crowd turned to Aurum and Gem as if asking what they should do. Gem flew into the air and addressed the crowd. "I do not believe that Xelqua should be punished severely. We made a very clear rule to not harm the dragon, and Bellum disobeyed. While death might have been an overly harsh punishment, it was a punishment nonetheless."
"I didn't mean to kill him," said Xelqua, "I only wanted to momentarily stun him, but in the heat of the moment, I was confused and put too much power into the magic. And now Bellum is dead." Gem smiled. "There you have it. Unless my brother disagrees with me Xelqua will not suffer a punishment beyond not being allowed to go beyond the main End City for the next couple of days. Anyone who tries to extract punishment will not like their fate."
Aurum nodded, agreeing. "I'll stay behind with Xelqua to enact the protections around the dragon," he said, "You take them back to the city." Gem and the others turned around and started to head back towards base.
Xelqua turned around to examine the dragon, and after a couple of seconds heard a loud bang. He turned around and found Aurum with his hand pointed at a person. The person was slowly transforming into a tall black entity with glowing purple eyes.
When Aurum spoke, his voice was full of anger. "Never disobey us again," he said, his eyes turning purple, "Never." The rest of the Watchers continued to follow Gem, and before long, they were out of view. Aurum turned back to Xelqua. "Sorry about that." his eye returned to its natural green. "I just didn't want you getting hurt again, especially getting hurt because of Bellum. Anyway, what defenses were you thinking for this dragon?" Xelqua smiled and raised his hands.
His eyes glowed purple, and runes surrounded him. He snapped and the dragon froze in place. "To make sure it doesn't attack us while we're working," he explained. After a second more of incomprehensible chanting, a sound as loud as thunder rang through the barren wasteland.
Aurum watched in amazement as the earth started crumbling around them until they were standing on a decently sized, but still small, island floating in the middle of the void. Aurum stared at Xelqua in awe. He knew his friend was powerful but powerful enough to make all blocks in a very large radius disappear?
Almost as soon as he thought this, Xelqua's eyes returned to normal, the runes disappeared and he collapsed. Aurum caught him before he hit the ground, but he still looked as though he had the wind knocked out of him.
"That," he murmured, "was exhausting. I haven't felt this drained since we created the portal." Aurum looked at him with a hint of amusement in his eyes. "That's because you just destroyed over 1,000,000,000 blocks. I would be surprised if you weren't tired." Xelqua gave a faint smile and tried to stand up.
After falling into Aurum's arms for the second time he gave a small sigh. "Fine," he told no one in particular, "be that way. I won't get up yet. That's fine." Aurum looked at the sandy-haired man in confusion.
"Who are you talking to Xelqua?" "No one," he responded, "I mean anyone who's listening really." Aurum smiled and said, "You know you have regen/ health potions to use whenever, right? That's something you can do." Xelqua opened and closed his mouth several times, and then small red particles started radiating off of him.
Xelqua stood and stretched, looked around, and nodded. "Ok, we have an island. Now, what should we do?" Aurum thought for a second before saying, "maybe a barrier, so the dragon can't get out?" Xelqua nodded and put his hands back up. His eyes started glowing but with a flash of light, his hands were down.
He looked over at Aurum, who grinned and shook his head. "After the effort you just exerted, I'll handle this. It's just a simple barrier spell. How difficult can it be?" Xelqua laughed and said, "a simple barrier spell in which you have to allow everything except for Jean to pass through? The dragon I mean," he added, seeing the confused look on Aurum's face, "that's, that's what I named her."
Aurum looked at him and then started laughing. He started chanting, his eyes turning purple and runes floating around him. After a second, the air looked slightly shimmery, and then the shimmer vanished. Aurum looked at his friend and smiled. "See! No problems whatsoever."
Xelqua just smiled and said, "Ok, time to build." He snapped his fingers and slowly but surely obsidian started appearing in circles around the island, forming large pillars. 10 of them to be precise. "Ok," said Aurum, "what goes on those things?"
"No clue. Something to protect her I guess. Like a magic crystal." "A Magic crystal? Xelqua, you are getting weirder by the day." Xelqua just nodded again and said, "Yes, a crystal. We can set it on bedrock on the tower, and if it's there, it will heal her. Touching the crystal will destroy it, but it will also cause a massive explosion."
"Hang on," said Aurum, "First, how are we going to ensure they end up here, and two, what do they get for killing her?" "We'll make an obsidian platform that will regenerate if something goes through the portal, and we'll grant them access to the greater End. To our cities."
"Is that safe? I mean, what if they find us, or our main city?" "We'll be long gone by then. I already have an idea of where we can move. And the main city will only be accessible by one person."
"Who is that," Aurum asked sarcastically, "Chris?" "Actually," replied Xelqua, "it is him." "I see. And how are you planning on transporting them to the outer End?" "Tiny portals. They can be one block high to give them a challenge. Now I'll make the crystals, you make and link the portals."
Xelqua summoned some glass and obsidian. He flew up onto one of the pillars and started experimenting. Eventually, he found something that would work. He flew down and started zooming around Aurum, rapid-fire yelling his name.
"WHAT?" yelled Aurum, obviously annoyed. "I finished the crystal," said Xelqua. Aurum glared at him. "Amazing. Now, can you help me with this portal? It's been driving me nuts." Xelqua looked at the bedrock structure Aurum had made and contemplated. He nodded and sent a bolt of purple energy straight at it.
It turned into a void full of stars, much like the end portal. "What does this do? Take you home? Because that's not what I want. I want it to go to the outer end." Xelqua grinned and pushed Aurum into the portal block, and then went through the portal himself.
When he got through the portal he found Aurum, on the ground, looking thoroughly shook up. Xelqua understood his shock. Portals were already nauseating enough, but getting pushed through one unexpectedly was a whole other thing. He slowly hovered down onto the ground. "Never do that ever again. Please."
Xelqua laughed and agreed. After going back they took a look around at what they had created. Xelqua put the crystals on each tower and flew back down to Aurum. "I want to do one final thing. I'm going to need help though." Xelqua offered his hand and Aurum took it. Their hands glowed purple and runes started floating around.
"What are we doing?" "Creating this scene in many layers." Aurum turned and stared at Xelqua. "Sorry what?" "I don't want Jean to be killed, so I'm taking this scene, making it on multiple levels of reality, and assigning different realities to different portals."
Aurum just stared at him, believing him crazy. "You just nearly killed yourself with the block stunt. And you want to do it AGAIN?!" Xelqua nodded and said, "Only this time, I have you to help. I just need a helping hand." "I don't know what to do," protested Aurum. "Neither do I. Just roll with it." With that, Xelqua started chanting, and the world started getting all hazy and distorted.
It got worse and worse until all at once, it snapped back to normal. "Perfect," said Xelqua, "Let's go home."
I know I said I wouldn't do this again, but, if you like it, consider voting? It helps out a lot.
