Her Mark.
Triggers- death, fire? (if there are others please tell me!)
Virgil and Sam had been sitting upstairs drawing and talking excitedly about anything and everything.
The seven-year-old twins not worrying about anything since their parents hadn't lashed out yet.
The older twin stopped talking and moved their hand to their collarbone, frowning in discomfort massaging the place where her mark was.
The brother didn't pay much attention until he heard a silent whimper from the older, stopping himself from drawing to looking at his sister who was holding back tears "Sammy? Want me to get ma and pa?" She nods a sob escaping "please?" Her voice was silent and wavered in pain.
Virgil stood running to the lounge on the first floor. The television was on while their parent was nursing a drink each since work was a little busy for them that day.
Their mother looked away from the television to see Virgil looking nervous, she sits up "Virgil? Is everything ok dear?--" The mother got interrupted by a scream from the twin's room instantly the mother ran up the stairs leaving her husband with the panicked brother.
Virgil was shaking and struggle to focus on one thing as Sam continued to scream In pain, there was rushed footsteps back down "Darryl It's her mark! Get Virgil outside away from the noise he's going to have an attack otherwise! I'll sort her out"
Darryl stood from his part on the sofa and went to the little boy crouching to be at eye level, "hey buddy, let's go outside for a bit" the boy looked at his father "B-but Sammy... what's wrong with her?"
Darryl sighed and took Virgil outside the house, "Virgil you and your sister have marks, the one on your arm and the one on her here--" He points to his collarbone to give an example, Virgil nods slowly trying to understand what his fathers trying to say.
"Those marks are a way of finding your soulmate, the person you will spend the rest of your life with-" how do we find those? how do we know that they are ours?" Virgil asks, looking curiously up at his father who sat on the verandah stairs. "Because your soulmate is the only person with the same mark, a missing piece to your puzzle; For you, the other person would have a storm cloud with a crown. They are not always in the same place though."
Virgil shuffles to sit next to his father. "What does this have to do with Sammy?" He asks and Darryl looks at his palm with a sense of sadness and anger. "Your sister will not have a soulmate for much longer, sometimes Peoples soulmates don't have time to meet, this is one of those cases Virgil."
Virgil was even more confused "why? what is happening to them? Why are they not going to meet?" Darryl looked at the boy with sad eyes and hugged him, "Virgil, you remember bubbles?" Virgil nods, "how they went to sleep and didn't wake up one morning?" Virgil nods again, "you said that he went to a special place to look over us and keep us safe in the sky,"
His father nods "yeah, and that he would be surrounded by cat toys and treats, that's what is happening to Sammy's soulmate, but going to the sky and watching over us, they will watch over Sammy and their family. Sam won't know who they are, though. and for a very long time, your sister is going to feel like a piece of her is missing and that she is alone."
Virgil didn't realise but his eyes were drooping from exhaustion and from the stressful situation he had experienced from his sister. The door opened to show Darryl's wife looking exhausted and stressed, "bring him in and put him to bed. she passed out a few minutes later"
Darryl did that easily carrying the smaller of the two into the house and going up to the twins' room, Samantha was asleep, face blotchy and a dark red mark almost like a burn replacing the mark she had on her collarbone. there were still tears flowing as she quietly whimpered.
He put Virgil into bed, pulling the sheets up to cover the sleepy boy and kissing him of the forehead good night as they got comfortable. Darryl then kissed the sister goodnight and closed the door as quietly as possible.
Darryl got downstairs and saw his wife in the kitchen with a bottle of wine and a wine glass head resting in her hands, "her mark turned to ash... it was glowing orange and red" they said knowing their husband was downstairs and looking at her, they looked at him. "Her soulmate burned alive."
Darryl went and hugged his wife, "we will be ok, I promise." She shook her head "don't make promises you can't keep Darryl, you know this more than anyone" they stood and left the room going to bed, leaving Darryl alone.
Again.
