Chp 4
Sam was not having a good night. He had ridden his bike to the Boardwalk to walk around and just explore without his older siblings or his mom hovering. Turns out that was a bad idea. First the Frog brothers cornered him again about his sister. They were convinced she was something other than human. Sam lost his temper and pushed them out of his way which shoved Edgar into a rack of comics, knocking them over. Alan helped his brother stand up, glaring at Sam. When Edgar was on his feet, he pushed Alan's hands off him and lunged for Sam. The two of them were rolling on the ground, landing several punches before Sam punched Edgar hard enough to knock him out. Sam didn't stick around and ran off.
He was making his way back to his bike on the darker side of the boardwalk, when a group of Surf Nazies moved in his way. It was a group of six guys, four of them surrounded him, while the other two were stealing his bike. Sam peers around the guys in front of him, "Hey! Hands off my bike!" They laugh in his now bruised face. The leader pushes Sam, "What are you gonna do about it?" Sam was already angry from the fight with Edgar, now he was pissed.
Sam lunged at the leader, tackling him to the ground and proceeded to pummel his face. The others jumped into the fight and were punching and kicking Sam to get him off the leader. Sam was trying to defend himself against five grown men, it was a losing fight. Until...
Liana had gone to the boardwalk to look for Sam since he was not home yet, and it was dark outside. She was using her vampiric hearing in her search. She had found Mike first. He was talking to Star again, after she had warned him about her and the others, but Mike never listens. Liana will deal with him after she finds Sam. She continues to search the boardwalk when she hears Sam in what sounds like a fight. She speeds over to where she heard him. She sees Sam on the ground trying to hide himself from getting more injured.
The sound of flesh tearing and two bodies dropping stopped the fight. The last two guys face where the noise came from and pale. Two of their friends were laying on the ground with holes in their chest where their hearts should be. The leader has not stood up from when Sam was beating him in the face. Their eyes shift to the girl standing over the bodies as Liana carelessly drops their hearts. Liana had a wicked smile and an evil glint in her red eyes, her veins under her eyes were more pronounced, black, and pulsating. What really sunk in the reality of the situation was her fangs.
Liana brought one of her bloody hands to her face while keeping eye contact with the Surf Nazies and licked the blood off. Liana stepped over the bodies and moved to pick Sam up. Sam was staring at the bludgeoned, lifeless face of the leader when he felt the most excruciating pain as his forearm snapped in half. Sam couldn't hold back the gut-wrenching scream, clutching his left arm to his chest, squeezing his eyes shut. When he opens them, he is facing Liana and she could see his eyes shifted to the Amber color of a triggered werewolf.
The heretic saw the two surviving Surf Nazies turn to run. She sped in front of them and ripped their hearts out as well. Liana dropped them next to the bodies and slowly moved to a pain-riddled, sobbing Sam, "Come on. Let's get you home." Sam was in too much pain to comprehend what had happened. "My bike," Sam's throat felt dry from screaming. Liana held Sam so she could speed him home, "I'll come back for it." Before Sam could respond his surroundings were a blur then he was set down on the couch in the Emersons' living room.
"Lucy?" Liana called out. Light, quick footsteps could be held coming down the stairs. Lucy approached the couch to see a badly beaten Sam, fresh tears streaming down his face. "Sam? What happened?" Lucy sat next to her son and pulled him into her arms. Sam didn't even bother to stop himself from sobbing, "I-I killed him. I lost control and I killed someone." Lucy's face went pale knowing what that meant. She tilted her head to Liana, who had gone into the kitchen for an empty glass and bit into her wrist so she could heal Sam of his injuries. Lucy waited for Liana to hand the glass to Sam. He had drunk Liana's blood before, but he never consciously paid attention to what it was. And he was fairly young the last time he did.
Liana watched Sam finish the glass and the injuries started to heal. She sighed, "I found him being beaten by five guys. The sixth guy was the one he had fought." Liana crouched in front of Sam, gaining his attention, "It was an accident. You were defending yourself against a group of grown men. Okay? So, do not blame yourself for what happened. Those guys would have killed you." Liana stood back up and faced Lucy, "I'm going to go back and clean up the mess, grab Sam's bike and find Michael. The people he has been hanging with sets my magic on edge. I don't think they're human." Lucy nodded her head, thinking she may know who she's talking about since she felt her new boss might not be human either.
Meanwhile...
Mike and Star had been walking around the boardwalk, enjoying each other's company and eating some cotton candy when Paul and Marko strolled up to them. Star glared at the two blondes; Mike huffed at the interruption. Paul threw his arm around Mike's shoulders as he came next to him, "Hey, Mikey?" Marko snickered behind the hand in front of his face, biting his thumbnail. Mike shrugged Paul's arm off his shoulders and pulled Star closer, "What do you want?" Paul scoffed at Mike, "Rude." The blonde vampires moved to block Mike and Star from walking any closer to Mike's bike, "We were wondering where Liana is this fine evening?"
Mike rolled his eyes, "Why? What do you want with her?" Marko looked to Paul before answering, "Well, big sis isn't here to drag you home. So, we wanted to know if you'd like to hang out with us?" "Yeah, I mean. She's a big girl, right? You didn't have to leave last night," Paul continued. Mike huffed at the two of them, "So, it would've been better to leave my sister alone, on the boardwalk at night, with no way to get home? What kind of brother would I be if I left her to fend for herself?" Mike didn't hear the other two, Dwayne and David, come up to them. David brings the conversation back on track, "Since she is not here tonight, why don't you follow us?"
Star grips Mike's bicep tightly to get his attention, "Mike, why don't you and me go on the roller coaster?" She did not want the Lost Boys to get their claws into Michael before she could escape them. Star was using Mike as a means to get out of the vampires' clutches. David turned to Star and shot her a glare before looking at Mike, "Come on, Michael? Are you going to let another girl tell you what to do?" Mike had enough, he pulled himself out of Star's grip and went to get on his dirt bike and kicked it to life. David smirked at the furious expression on Star's face. The Lost Boys went and started their own bikes, meeting up with Mike, then riding off the boardwalk onto the beach towards their lair.
Liana made it back to the scene and was getting rid of the bodies. She carelessly tossed them into the ocean, rinsing the blood off her hands before retrieving Sam's bike. Liana rode the bike slowly around the boardwalk in search of Mike. As she got closer to where he parked his dirt bike the night before, she saw him and the group of guys she warned him about take-off down the beach. Mike felt eyes on him. He quickly glanced over his shoulder and saw Liana watching him with an unreadable expression on her face. Dwayne saw Mike look back and followed his line of sight. He saw Liana staring at Mike but as a group of tourists passed in front of her, she took the moment to disappear. Dwayne became confused and thought to himself, "No human can move that fast."
The Lost Boys, Star, Laddie, and Mike entered a cave. This cave held broken furniture, a reception desk, and a beautiful fountain that was once a grand hotel until a massive earthquake brought it into its final resting place. David told Mike this as the untriggered werewolf looked around the cavern. Star went and sulked in her corner, not wanting to be around anybody at the moment. Soon, Laddie was next to Star with one of the comic books he swiped earlier that night. He was watching the Frog brothers pick on a guy and took the opportunity to grab some comics while their backs were turned.
The Lost Boys talked so low that Mike or even Star could hear them. David was asking, "Should we turn him or not? I, for one, don't like the guy." Paul seemed to be most vocal, "I don't get a good vibe from him. He's too quick to anger. He probably wouldn't be able to handle the life." Marko gave a subtle nod in agreement with Paul. They all looked to Dwayne. He was lost in thought about Liana before he noticed his brothers' attention was on him. He voiced what he saw, "When we drove off the stairs, Mike looked back. I looked to see what he was looking at and saw Liana with a blank face staring at Mike. I don't know if Mike knew she was at the boardwalk or not, but it seemed like he didn't care like he says he does or he would've turned back. Which, to me, makes him a liar."
David had sat in his favorite chair which happened to be an old wicker wheelchair. He was talking to Mike as he listened to his brothers and made the decision to not turn Mike. It's one thing to hide what they are from people, it's another to outright lie. And it seems Mike did lie to their faces. David subtly shook his head and the other three slightly relaxed. Mike sat down on the edge of the fountain near David, he didn't notice the tension surrounding him. He had his eyes on Star. Mike wanted nothing more than to grab her, possess her, and keep her away from other guys. He shook his head to clear those thoughts and paid attention to David.
"So, Michael? How are you liking Santa Clara?" David cringed at the small talk he was trying to make. Mike wasn't bothered by it, "It's alright so far. A lot different than Phoenix but it's alright." Mike looked around the cave again, "Do you guys live here? What about your folks?" The Lost Boys laughed at the second question. Paul plopped down on the broken couch across from Mike, "Nah, we've been on our own for quite some time. This place is ours to do as we please." The vampires snickered at the double meaning.
Mike decided to head home after the conversation died down and Star had gone to sleep next to Laddie. The vampires watched him leave before heading to Max's house to inform him about their decision to not turn Michael. Max was not happy, but he could see it from their point of view. Star was already a problem since she refused to complete her transition, they didn't need another one. So, Max told 'his boys' to keep an eye on the Emerson children for the time being, not realizing one of the 'children' hasn't been a child in over 140 years.
When Mike got home, he was stopped by a very upset Lucy and an agitated Liana. He huffed, "What?" Mike just wanted to go to his room and forget about this night, but Liana had other plans. She bluntly told Michael, "You're going to stay home and help me with Sam on the night of the full moon next week." Mike grew angry at being told what to do, "What?! Why should I?!" Lucy became frustrated with her eldest son. She spoke softly but stern, "Sam triggered his curse tonight." Mike paled but again became angry, "And that's my problem?! Liana's the one that was supposed to watch him!" "Hey! I can't be there 24/7. You're his older brother! He's going to need you or are you too busy chasing that cunt to care?!"
A new, angrier voice was heard, "ENOUGH! You will not fight inside my home!" Grandpa came downstairs after hearing raised voices. Grandpa may have spoken to all of them, but he was glaring at Liana. He knew he couldn't trust her. Mike shook his head and stomped up the stairs brushing past Grandpa, not bothering to check on Sam who was asleep after crying himself exhausted. Lucy rubbed her temples trying to stop the headache that was forming, "I'm going to bed. We will discuss the plan for Sam in the morning." Lucy left her father alone with Liana.
Grandpa waited until Lucy closed her door before he pulled out a Vervain filled syringe. He was determined to lock up Liana until she had desiccated and then bury her under the garage. Grandpa will never tell anyone where Liana is, and she will remain buried for eternity. He got closer to Liana and stuck her in the back of her neck with the Vervain. The dose was not high enough to completely knock her out since she has been building up a tolerance. But she was weak enough for Grandpa to shove her into a makeshift cell in the basement where he injected more Vervain rendering her unconscious.
