Lukas

I can't believe she is in all of our classes.

"Something is different with her."

How can you tell?

"I just can."

Yea whatever. I rolled my eyes.

I reverted my attention back to the teacher listening to him drone on and on about the basics of the English language, but I found myself travelling to her.

The way she leans on her left elbow when she writes, her wavy, dark brown hair cascading down her back.

"Hey!Hey! Snap out of it." Someone snapped their fingers in my face.

"Yea what's up?" I looked at Markus who was now staring at me.

"Stop your fantasizing and lets go, class is over." He grabbed his book bag and walked ahead if me. I grabbed my stuff and walked out of the classroom.

"Hey, Alana. What class do you have now?" Aaliyah asked her.

"Umm... I have AP Physics." Alana said putting her schedule away.

"Well, isn't this a coincidence because all three of us are in the same class too!" Markus put an arm around the both of them and looked back and gave me a gloating smile. He always manages to squeeze himself in.

"I guess it's a coincidence, huh?" Alana smiled shyly.

"Definitely. Maybe it's a sign." Aali said thoughtfully.

"Yea...maybe." Alana answered looking slightly uncomfortable being around them.

I grinned and we all walked into room 302. We all started to choose our seats.

"Look who's in here too." Mark whispered.

I didn't even have to look. I picked up on his scent.

"Jacob Tate."

I know the jerk.

"Make sure you choose your seats wisely this year. We don't want to have another repeat," the teacher said from the desk, "I'm talking to you... Chase and Tate."

I rolled my eyes. He started that fight last time. It wasn't even me. I watched him find his way over to the empty seat next to Alana. Part if me right now wanted to pull him out of that seat, but the sensible part of me just left it alone.... I just met her today...if you even call that meeting. I shook my head and smiled.

"You know we should get Alana to sit with us." Aali said.

"But how anytime we try to interact, she shies away." Markus said grabbing a lunch tray.

"Probably because she is a shy person. Any normal person would pick up on that." I rolled my eyes, popping a tater tot in my mouth.

He only rolled his eyes. But I searched the room but still couldn't find her.

"Look. Found her." Aali said gesturing towards her.

She was sitting alone with a book, reading. SIGH.

"I'mma go sit with her " Markus got up.

"Me too." Aali stood up also.

"Guys, what if she wants to be alone?" I looked at them.

"Just come on you know you want to." Aali grinned.

After a self-battle, I reluctantly gave in. "Fine, I'm coming." I mumbled as I stood up leaving the food tray. All three of us sat in front of her. She looked at us with unease.

"Hi, Alana." Aaliyah smiled.

"Hello." She said quietly.

"So... How's lunch going so far?" Markus asked.

"....It's... going great... I guess..." She nodded awkwardly.

I was mentally facepalming myself. I knew I should have stayed at the other table.

"Guys, can't you see she doesn't want to talk. Lets just leave her alone." I looked at the both of them.

"So Alana you're new here?" Aaliyah completely ignored me

She nodded in response, avoiding eye contact.

"Where did you move from?" Mark asked.

"Britain I moved from Britain."

"WHAT?! REALLY?! That's cool!" He smiled broadly.

"Yea... Britain was cool." She nodded in agreement.

"Why did you move so far from home?" Aali asked.

"My parents found a better job... I guess." She shrugged.

"Oh.. Better job means more money," Markus did a goofy grin,"I mean am I right or am I right?!"

Aaliyah and I just glared at him,but Alana actually giggled and shook her head.

"Yea...you're right." She smiled.

"At least someone recognises when I'm right." He glared at Aali and I while gesturing to Alana.

"The day when we recognize you are right is  the day when  unicorns fly." Aali crossed her arms.

"But unicorns can't fly and they don't exist." Mark said sadly.

"Well I guess that day doesn't exist either." I smirked.

He cast us both a dark glare and returned back to normal.

"So, Alana. You free this weekend?" Markus asked.

Her cheeks turned bright pink and she raised one eyebrow.

"Don't worry I'm not asking you out on a date. We wanted to show you around town." He smiled.

"Yea, and we can give you the Oak Ridge tour." Aali said excitedly.

"Of both sides of town. The city life and its natural life. We have beautiful walking trails. Do you like walking?" I asked.

"Actually, yea. I used to walk the trail all the time at home." She gave a little half smile.

"Great....so....it's a yes?" Aali asked.

Alana sat there thinking for a bit and finally looked at us and grinned. "Well, I guess. I have nothing planned anyways."

"Yes! We're going to spend a day with Alana!"

I know, but geez. Calm down ,Cam .

The bell rang and she dashed off without is getting in the next word. I watched her go and am smiled.

"And you said leave her alone." Mark shook his head.

"Shut up." I snarled.

The bell for last period rang. Where is she? We have to get her number. I followed her scent of berries and flowers... Don't ask why I know that. I stopped at an open door listening to a beautiful piece in the piano, waiting until it finished.

(This is the song by the way)

"That was beautiful. What is it called?" I asked from the doorway.

"Endure by Ivan Castro." She said standing up grabbing her bag.

"Wow, just wow. Know more?" I looked her.

"What do I look like? A one trick pony?" She said with sass. I raised an eyebrow and she looked as if she was shocked at her own words.

"S-sorry. I didn't mean  it. Gotta go. Bye!" She tried to run off again but I caught her hand.

"No it's fine. And you need to stop running off.... I... We need your number so we can contact you." I just let the words spill out.

She just looked at me for awhile then nodded. She gave me her phone number. "There you go... Um...gotta go." She started to leave quickly.

I grabbed her hand again. "Wait... You can call or text me any time. I want to hang out with you more." I smiled.

She blushed again and used her hair as a shield. "I'll think about it." She said turning and walked away.

"You can call me or text me anytime." He said mockingly.

Had anything better to say?

"Much better things."

Like what?

He was silent. Exactly. That's what I thought.
