Chapter 33
Lukas
We were all sitting at our usual lunch table. "I can't believe that Fenris is teaching our English class." Mark said as he chomped on a fry.
"Seriously. I mean how did he even get the job. Like where is our old teacher and what did he do to get replaced so quickly." Aaliyah said as she pushed some lettuce around with her fork.
I raised both eyebrows and nodded. "Hey....those are good questions... It's weird." I bit into my sloppy joe, careful not to spill any meat sauce on my jeans and shirt.
"You're awfully quiet, Lana. What do you think?" Mark looked at her.
We all turned our heads in her direction. She had this zoned out expression with her head bowed while lightly drumming her fingers on the table. I nudged her with my elbow. "Lana." I said.
She snapped her head up and looked at us. "What did I miss?" She asked.
"You missed the cue to come back into orbit. Why are you out in space all the time?" He asked her.
"I....have a lot of serious thinking to do, Mark. That's why." She picked up her chocolate pudding cup and began to eat it.
"Like...remembering that you are an earthling and not a martian." He smirked.
She laughed. "You know what,"she took a fry and threw it at him," shut your laughing box."
He caught the fry in his mouth and ate it. "Thank you, but next time throw one that's a little less dry." He said after struggling to swallow the one fry.
"How about next time I'll throw a fist and you can catch that." She said darkly.
"Oooh.... is that a threat?" Mark leaned on the table.
"Um.... Mark. You don't want to go down that road." I said quietly.
"No, it's a promise." She continued to eat her pudding.
"What can a teeny thing like you can do to me?" He bit a fry.
Aaliyah and I looked at him and our eyes begged him to stop talking. Grant it, Alana is small 5'4 compared to the rest of us- Mark and I are 6'1 and Aali is 5'11- but that little powerhouse is scrappy. He wouldn't know that because he hasn't been sparring with us three.
"Wh- what did you just call me?" She laughed which sounded more like an amused huff.
"I called you teeny. Got a problem with it because you are. You're nothing but a little bite sized wolf." He teased.
"He did not just say that. He just sealed his doom." Ryker whimpered in fear for Mark.
Yup. He's dead. She's going to murder him and his pride.
She rapidly tapped her fingers on the table then bit her bottom lip then glared at him with those icy blue flames. He immediately looked horrified.
"Welp. Nice knowin' ya, Mark." Aali patted him on the shoulder.
"You have officially ended your life. Any last words?" I smiled at him.
"Yea...ummm,"he scratched a spot on his head,"has her eyes always been a blue fire?" He pointed at her with his eyebrows raised.
"Yes. Only when she gets mad. And you my brother made her mad. Congratulations!" I shook his hand.
"Just be ready, Markus. You will never know when I'll attack." She stood up with her tray.
"No! No! No! Is it too late now to say sorry?" He sang to her pleading.
She walked over towards him and lightly kissed him on the top of his head. "No. It's too late apologize." She simply said and walked away to throw away her trash.
He slumped in his seat and buried his face in his arms. "I'm going to die." He mumbled into his arms.
"We tried to warn you." Aali shook her head.
Then Jacob walked over towards our table and sat down. "Where's Allie?" He asked.
Mark and Aali looked at him, perplexed, then looked at me to explain the situation. "They're orphan buddies." I shrugged taking another bite out of my sandwich. They both just squinted their eyes at me, still looking genuinely confused.
Alana came back to the table and sat down. "Hey, Jacob." She sipped some of her drink.
"You told him we were orphan buddies?" He asked her.
"Yea. It's not like they know the story behind it." She shrugged then placed her drink back onto the table.
"You talk to this guy now? Since when?" Aaliyah asked her.
"It's been awhile." She said casually. I raised a questioning eyebrow at her and she laughed nervously once she met my gaze. "Never mind how long," she said quickly," so um... what do you need?"
"We're talking about this later." I linked with her.
"Did that English teacher seem off to you guys or was it just me?" He asked.
"We really don't." She answered.
"Yes. If you say his name out loud, you'll get it." Aaliyah said.
"We really do. How are you going to keep me out of the loop like that."
"Say his name out loud? Finn Russ? Finn...Russ..." he muttered under his breath.
"Because it's none of your business and keep your sniffing snout out if it."
"Haven't caught on yet? Finn Russ is Fenris." Mark said with a straight face.
"None of my business? You are my business and I don't like the fact that you are conversing with the rival pack."
Jacob chuckled as if Mark was joking. "Fenris? The Fenris? Like the demon wolf Fenris that murdered thousands of humans and werewolves alike until the Goddess stopped him eons ago, Fenris?" He asked looking concerned.
"He's not the enemy, Luke. He didn't start the rivalry and you shouldn't keep it going." She said sharply. "Learn to not follow in your parent's footsteps and form your own alliances."
"No, the Fenris that frolic in the fields during the springtime," Aali said with sarcasm," of course it's that Fenris! What other Fenris do you know?"
Jacob started to laugh nervously. And I just stared at Alana and she just gave me a satisfied smirk and leaned on her left hand, exposing bare skin on her neck. The spot where I would mark her. I growled deep in my throat at thought.
"This is bad. How did he come back anyways. He was dead." He said.
"That's what we're trying to figure out." Alana said flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"Well, if there is anything you need help with you know where to find me." He smiled at her.
"Will do, thanks, mate." She smiled back making Ryker growl and pace back and forward out of jealousy. He got up and left and Mark and Aaliyah were staring at Alana.
"What?" She met their gaze.
"We need to have a serious talk about him. And.. and Luke.... are you okay?" Aaliyah looked at me.
"No he's not okay. He's a jealous git." Alana rolled her eyes.
"Are not." I shot back.
"Yea, tell that to your bleeding palms. You've become so possessive." She looked at me.
I looked at my hands and wiped them off with napkins and looked back at Alana. "I am not possessive. I'm protective over what's mine! And you are my mate!" I yelled causing a whole bunch of people to stare at us and Alana stared at me with wide eyes.
"And the truth finally comes out." Aaliyah giggled and Mark gave her a high five.
Alana looked at her hands. "So that's what you call it.... Forgive me.. I'm... I don't know." Then she got up and walked off.
I looked at Mark and Aali who wore my same shocked expression. "Did I just scare her off?" I asked quietly.
"No, Luke. You gotta remember she grew up with humans and certain concepts that are common to us come as a shock to her." Aali said.
"True... geez I'm stupid. I didn't mean to scare her." I said quietly.
Now to deal with this now. Sorry Lana...
Hahaha!
The truth comes out biotches...
For her at least. Her poor humanized mind.... but I keep forgetting to introduce Kira into the picture.. Seems like I have more work to do.
