Lukas

I woke up the next morning to an empty bed. The sun was already up and bright, extremely bright. The birds were singing.

Gosh...how long was I sleep?

"I don't know but it sure felt good." Ryker stretched.

I rubbed my eyes and got out of bed to see where everyone else is. I walked downstairs to the living room.
Roxas, Mark, and Allen was on the couch playing CoD Black Ops II, Aali was sitting sideways in the easy chair on her phone, and Allie was on the floor with her legs in the air with Jaden on her feet. He squealed as she dropped him suddenly and raised him back up again.

"Morning, sleepyhead. Finally you're awake." Alana smiled at me.

"Hey, Luke. Wassup. You up just in time for lunch." Mark said.

"Lunch? I've been sleep that long?" I leaned in the doorway. "Why didn't anyone wake me up?"

"I tried to, but Lana insisted on letting you sleep because you looked 'adorable' as she put it." Aali said.

I looked at Alana and all she did was smile bashfully. "Well you did. And you looked tired. You've been training a lot lately." She returned to playing with the baby.

"Honestly, I wanted to hit you across the head with a pillow." Rox said.

"When do you not." Alana said.

"Good question." Allen chimed in.

"I would say when I'm sleep, but that would be a lie because I always dream that you're in the worst pain possible." Roxas said solemnly.

"Well it's good to know that you dream about me." I said sarcastically.

He rolled his eyes. "Time for lunch you guys, Chase is already waiting for you in the dining room." Clarissa walked into the room.

We all scrambled to our feet and sat down. I took my usual spot next to Allie. Dad was sitting at the head of the table. He flashed a warm smile at all of us.

"Hey, Luke. Slept well? You missed breakfast." He looked at me.

"Yea, slept like a baby." I grinned.

He smiled then let out a long exhale and looked at us. "Guys, I have an announcement to make." He said eyes falling on us as he spoke.

"What is it, Daddy?" Aali smiled excitedly.

"Spill the beans old man." Mark pointed at him threateningly, but his smile came off as light.

"Yea, what is this 'announcement' you speak of?" Allie asked.

"Well you guys, have been doing a lot of thinking lately with these recent hunter attacks and such that it has brought to my attention that if I never made it back, who would assume my position." He said in a very serious tone looking distraught over it for a second but he shook the expression and went with a more stoic one.

"And are you going to tell us or just sit there?" Mark asked.

"Yes, Mark. Let me get to it..." He rolled his eyes at him and huffed. "But what I was saying is that I have chosen which son I deem responsible enough to begin training as alpha." He said folding his hands together. "And that son is you Luke." He looked directly at me with a small smile.

My jaw fell to my lap. There was stunned silence across the table, even Jaden remained silent.

Oh my gosh! Me?! Alpha?! How would Mark feel? Would he hate me? Would it ruin our broship?

"Calm yourself down. I'm pretty sure it won't ruin anything." Ryker said reassuringly.

I squirmed uncomfortably in my seat feeling the dread of his possible reaction.

"WHOO-HOO! THIS MEANS I CAN STILL BE RECKLESS!" Mark's happy cheers broke the silence.

I sighed with relief and we all laughed. I smiled a little letting the initial shock wear off and I began to breath normally again.

"Congrats! You're going to be alpha." Alana smiled excitedly. "You should celebrate." She grinned.

"I have ideas." I wiggled my eyebrows suggestively at her and she giggled and shook her head.

"A major upgrade. Get it, Lukas. You're moving up in ranks." Roxas clapped quietly with a nod of approval.

"So if Lukas becomes alpha what does that make Allie?" Allen asked.

"That makes her luna. The female leader of the pack. His equal." Cain smiled warmly.

Her jaw dropped, wearing the same stunned expression I wore earlier and she held her face with her hands. Roxas pushed her jaw up.

"Close your mouth dear, you don't want a fly to get in it." He chuckled.

"Bloody hell! Me?! Whaaaaaaat?" She asked in disbelief in a high pitched voice.

We all smiled at her and she just snorted in an unladylike fashion and shook her head. "And I thought my life was getting easier." She slumped back in her chair with a dazed look.

"Do you accept?" Dad asked with an eyebrow raised. "You don't have to accept right away, I know that this is a big decision to make."

I know it's a big decision to make, but it feels as if I was ready for this moment. And it's what I'm supposed to do.

"Then go ahead and accept." Ryker said encouragingly.

My hands gripped the edges of the table. I have to be overthinking this... Just say yes!

"I accept the position. I feel it's my responsibility to take on this task and train to be the best leader possible." I looked at him then I grabbed Lana's hand. "But I don't think I could do it without her by my side. Allie, do you accept your position as future Luna?" I looked at her.

"Hell. If I can manage to raise a child at age 16, then what more is there to run a pack? I think I can handle it." She casually waved me off with a giggle.

"You'd be surprised." Cain chuckled. "But I'm glad that you two accept. I can't wait to see how time matures you both as leaders. You two were born to lead." He said and I swear he started to tear up.

"Oh come on! Don't tell me the great almighty Cain isn't about to unleash the waterworks." Mark teased.

"No! I just have allergies." He frowned at him, but chuckled.

"Sure." We all said skeptically and laughed.
