Chapter 9: School?
Media: Seo Ji-hye as Queen Lorraine Clementine Fineux
A/N: Please use your imagination for the character's hair and eye colors. As much as I want to edit them myself, I'm afraid I'd only make it worse! Hahaha. So anyways, I'll just give you an image of what they probably look like and then let your imagination run wild ;)
"Your majesty, I've brought milady," the butler said after knocking on the door.
"Please come in," Queen Lorraine permitted then the butler opened the door for me. I looked around inside and this seems like the queen's office. She's sitting in an elegant looking chair with a big desk in front of her piled by a mountain of papers. Not to mention, that guy is also in here. Tss.
"If you'll excuse me," the butler bowed down and exited the door behind me.
"Good morning Dew, I hope you had a good night rest?" the queen started.
"Good morning Queen Lorraine. Yes, I did. Thank you," I replied.
"That's good to hear then. Please take a seat." the queen said showing the vacant seat across Hiro.
I cautiously moved closer to them then sat down. I glanced at the guy who just looked at me with his usual blank expression. Seriously, it's impossible to read this guy. He's like a robot. He suddenly narrowed his eyes at me which made me sit up straight. What's his problem?
"Your eyes..." He muttered. "They weren't green." He continued in a serious tone. Oh, he noticed.
"Ah, this... I just removed my contacts." I casually told him.
"Contacts?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah. It's something we humans wear to change our eye color or as a substitute for eyeglasses. Well for mine... I had my reasons." I explained. Why is he even interested?
"So that's possible huh..." I heard him whisper to himself.
"You've always had green eyes?" the queen also asked.
"Uh yes," I answered and somehow the expression of the queen changed. The atmosphere grew serious all of a sudden.
"Is there any problem?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"Nothing... it's just that you remind me of some old acquaintances." Queen Lorraine replied looking a bit bereaved. I wonder what happened.
"You see, it all began about 1,100 years back when Elder Owen, who had the greatest clairvoyance ability foretold a prophecy." the queen opened up. "It was a prophecy of the kingdom's fall," she continued and a sudden shiver run down from my spine.
"At first, no one wanted to believe it, but a hundred years ago... the first part of the prophecy happened." the queen told as a glint of pain flash in her eyes.
"The most powerful kingdom fell. Every single royal blood of the Windrains was killed. Nothing was left, not even their bodies. They all turned into ashes." the queen told, anger evident in her voice. I can't believe this... Did that really happen? I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat. For some reason, my heart aches for them. How can someone be that cruel!
"We couldn't even do anything to stop it from happening. Everything was gone within the blink of an eye. I've lost my closest friend..." Queen Lorraine continued her face full of anguish and remorse. I kinda felt sad for the queen. If I'll ever lose Hazel or mom, it might as well suck the life out of me. Ahhh I don't even wanna think about it.
"You remind me of them," the queen suddenly said which surprised me. I looked at her dumbfounded. "Of who?" I asked out of curiosity.
She smiled. "The Windrains,"
I let out a nervous laugh. "H-how can that be? That's impossible."
Queen Lorraine laughed lightly, "I know. I'm not saying you're one of them. It's just that your green eyes are so similar to theirs." I suddenly felt embarrassed. How could I have assumed that? Stupid me.
"Uhh well, this eye color is rare, but roughly about 2% of human beings also have green eyes so... yeah," I randomly shared the research I've done before out of embarrassment. What the hell am I even saying?
Queen Lorraine chuckled. "So how was your experience with the legendary fae pet?" She asked, changing the topic.
I looked at Myrtle who's sitting at my lap just listening to our discussion. "Oh, you mean Myrtle? It's fine," I shrugged my shoulders. "I mean she's cute and fun to talk with," I told the queen.
"You can't talk to a baby fae pet." that guy suddenly interrupted, trying to oppose me. Is he looking for a fight?
"Yes you could," I answered him as calm as possible since the queen is in front of us.
He narrowed his eyes at me. "Baby fae pets can't speak,"
I also narrowed my eyes at him. "Yes, they could. Myrtle has been speaking to me through my mind," I told him, trying hard not to raise my voice.
His expression suddenly changed. "Since when?" He asked.
I tried to remember when was it. "Hmm.. since the so-called dark enigma attacked us."
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked looking a bit irritated. It's so weird not seeing his usual blank face. Why is he even making a fuss about this? I thought this was normal?
"Because you didn't ask?" I asked him back raising an eyebrow. I didn't feel like I was obligated to tell him these things anyways.
"Hiro." The queen's cold voice filled the room. "Why didn't you notice something so important?" She looked at him with a serious expression.
"Tsk," He muttered as he looked away from the queen's gaze. Was that actually important?
The queen let out a sigh then she looked at me. "Dewelet.. If you don't mind. I'd like to enroll you in Adelaide Academy." Wait, what? An academy? Why are we suddenly talking about schools here? I don't think I can take in all of these.
"Mother! What are you saying?" Hiro opposed. For once I think he's doing something good for me.
"You don't have a say in this Hiro," Queen Lorraine told him off and he just muttered a 'tsk' again.
"Uhm... I-I don't think I'd want to," I honestly said.
"I know you'd probably not like the idea, but this is for your own good." the queen replied. "This is the first time in history that a legendary fae pet is born. You said so yourself that it can talk to you telepathically as early as now. Even a first class fae pet cannot do that. I'm afraid we might not know how dangerous it can get for you especially that you're just a mere human being. It is important for you to learn how to control her." The queen explained, looking warily at Myrtle.
I don't know how to react to this. I'm scared, but it also felt like something that I must do. My fate is already bound to Myrtle and it seems like something I cannot easily escape from.
"Adelaide Academy is one of the most exceptional schools here in Araindale. Their knowledge about fae pets is also profound since basically, Adelaide Academy is a school for faeries who have fae pets." The queen explained as if trying to convince me that attending the school would be the best choice for me.
I pondered on it for a while then thought of a good bargain. "I'll attend this academy as you've said, but on one condition,"
"What is it?" the queen asked.
"Promise me that you'll return me to my world," I told the queen firmly. I just need to get an assurance.
Small beads of sweat began forming on my forehead as I await the queen's response. "After you do us a favor, we promise to return you safely to your world," the queen finally answered then I smiled as I expressed my gratitude.
"Okay now that everything's decided. I'll immediately enroll you to the academy and Hiro..." the queen faced him. "You will look after her," she instructed. Whatt? Do I have to get stuck with that jerk again??
"What? Do I seriously have to?" Hiro asked in annoyance. For once I agree with him. I'd be more comfortable with anyone else.
"Yes, you do. This is also for your failure of noticing something important during your mission. So from now on, she will be your responsibility." Oh my gosh. Can this get any worse? As much as possible I just really don't wanna be in the same room with this guy!
"Tsk," He muttered.
"Uhm I don't think I should bother him with this task. I—" the queen cut me off. "Oh, that's perfectly fine. You may not know, but my son is one of the most outstanding faerie in this generation for his excellent ability and talent. He will be able to protect you." I sighed. Looks like I won't be able to change the queen's mind.
Queen Lorraine said she'll just need to process things regarding this matter so I may go back now to my room while she asked Hiro to remain inside.

Hiro's POV
"Why did you lie to her?" I asked mother as soon as that girl exited the door.
"What do you mean? A queen does not lie. I simply didn't tell her just yet." She replied.
I stood up, "Why make things complicated?" I told her.
"You do not understand. Telling her everything would make things even more complicated." She said as she walked towards the glass window overlooking the kingdom. "I wanted her to know this world first. To understand it bit by bit before she makes a decision. She doesn't need to know about the whole prophecy yet." She debated.
"How about her return? I know we couldn't have promised her that." I asked as I know everything will even be harder in the future. That girl might even be put into greater danger.
"I'll make it happen. If that's what she needs to stay here then I'll do everything in my power to fulfill my promise." Mother assured and I let out a sigh in defeat.
"That is why Hiro, be good to her." She looked at me in the eye. "You know how much we need the power of the legendary fae pet. It was as stated in the prophecy. She may be a human, but that girl could be our only hope.." Mother sincerely asked.
"I know." was all I could say. Seriously, if that stupid girl just listened to me from the start we will both not have this burden.
