Chapter 2: The 1980s
Loki woke up on the pull out couch Miss Howlett placed him on. He found a pair of brand new clothes for him right beside his head.
"I made sure that I got you some new clothes. Your other ones looked like you went through a lot. Also if you need to use a bathroom to wash up, my bedroom is right though that passage." Miss Howlett said as she combed her freshly blow dried hair.
"Thank you."
"Oh, a polite Loki. What a rarity." She smirked and then fixed her hair to make it less all over the place.
Loki took Miss Howlett's offer for a shower, he really needed one and at this point he can finally be alone with his thoughts while in the shower.
As he cleaned himself, prior events flashed in his mind. Sylvie, Mobius, the other Lokis... He was determined to find Sylvie even though she did break his heart.
After he got out of the shower he got dressed. The buttoned up shirt, tie, dress pants and shoes, and of course the variant jacket...
Loki thought about the jacket. He lost it awhile ago, how is it here?
He got out of Miss Howlett's room and found her at her chair looking at a file on her desk.
"Where did you find this jacket?"
"That jacket? That's what all variant workers wear. There is nothing special."
"But how did you know?"
"I know all, Loki. Haven't you caught on yet?" She smirked as she kept reading her report.
Loki then put on his jacket and sat on the chair in front of her desk, deciding that arguing with her was not worth it.
"Alright, ready for your first mission?"
"Do I have a choice?"
She smirked. "Now you are catching on. I'll give you a briefing once we make it to our hotel room." And she took out a tempack from her pocket and pressed some buttons to get a portal to open up.
"Hop in, your highness." And Loki rolled his eyes and went through the portal.
Loki stepped out into the pavement of a busy city sidewalk. Miss Howlett closed the portal behind her and grabbed Loki's arm.
"Welcome to the Big Apple in 1985, Loki. Now let's get to that hotel." Miss Howlett said as she pulled Loki's arm.
"I can walk, you know. You don't have to pull me."
"Yeah. But we don't have much time. Also we need a quick clothes change." She then waved her hand in front of her face and green magic enveloped her and Loki, quickly changing Loki's and her clothing to 80s styled clothing. Miss Howlett was in a golden yellow dress and Loki was in a 80s looking suit.
"Wait... what?" And Miss Howlett just pulled him into a building and up some stairs. She opened the door and pushed him inside and closed the door behind her.
"You just did some magic... and it was green..." Loki said and she smirked.
"And you would love to know why, don't you?" She said and she opened up her file and placed it on the bed.
"Tonight is Live Aid, a huge concert that we need to make sure that Eric Clapton does the fastest version of "Layla" during a seventeen minute set."
"Who and what?"
"Right, you didn't live on Midguard. We are going to the biggest concert since Woodstock and this one little moment will solidify the timeline. We are kinda like that guy in Quantum Leap." And Loki looked at Miss Howlett, puzzled at what she just said.
She waved her hands again and made her outfit change to teased hair, David Bowie t-shirt, ripped jeans, and some colorful converse.
"Now it's time for your 80s make over!"
"No no, I can do it myself." Loki said and he gave himself a jeans jacket, torn jeans, a Black Sabbath t-shirt, and some black converse.
"Wow! Now you are getting it. Let's go!" And she pulled Loki towards the door and went on their way, she got a car and started driving.
"Okay. Before we get stuck in this mission. I think you deserve to know a little bit about me. To build trust."
Loki looked at her. "Okay. What are you going to tell me? Or are you going to fake me out like you have been?"
"Well if you must know. It's hard for me to let my guard down. I don't make friends easily."
"Neither do I, so there is something in common." She smirked at Loki's answer.
"My name is Ellinor, Ellinor Howlett. Not a lot of people know my first name because I don't want a ton of people to know my first name."
Loki smiled. "Ellinor. It mean sympathy and compassion in Norse."
"Yeah. It does. My father helped name me." Ellinor said as she drove.
"My father was special to me. He helped me learn how to control my magic."
"So you do have magic."
"Yeah. It's the only thing I have left of him." Ellinor said as she kept driving, her knuckles becoming white because she was getting stressed.
"Hey... if it makes you feel any better, it's the same for me. My mother taught me how to control my magic and now she is gone. I will never be able to see her again."
Ellinor nodded and her eyes started to tear up. Then she shook the tears out of her eyes and kept driving.
"In the glove compartment, there are two backstage passes. We will be able to be in the backstage to help make our mission come true." Loki nodded and did as she said.
"Why did you decide to open up to me?"
"It's hard to explain, Loki. You wouldn't understand."
A little while later, Ellinor and Loki have arrived at JFK Stadium. They got out of the car and got inside with no problems.
"I cannot believe I am able to go see Live Aid! I've always wanted to be here!" Ellinor relaxes a bit, showing her softer side.
"You must like music?"
"Uh yeah! The 80s are the best! Bon Jovi, David Bowie, Queen, Tina Turner, Elton John, Pat Benetar, do I need to name any more?" Ellinor fangirls for one moment, listing her favorite artists.
Loki chuckles at how the tough young woman just melted into a puddle because she was in her favorite time period. Ellinor then grabs Loki and drags him closer to the front of the crowd.
"Eric Clapton is after Phil Collins so once Phil Collins gets up there we got to find Eric Clapton." Ellinor said to Loki as she held onto his arm to make sure didn't lose him in the crowd.
"Again. I don't know who they are."
"I'll let you know! Just enjoy yourself for a little while!" And Judas Priest got on stage their set.
Loki didn't understand British metal, he just watched Ellinor have the time of her life. He smiled, feeling a strange connection with her somehow. As she was jumping up and down and cheering, her necklace slipped out of her shirt and was glowing green.
Loki was curious about the necklace. He sensed a power coming from it.
"Is that necklace a magic source?" And Ellinor froze and then looked up at Loki then at her chest. Her necklace was out in the open. She quickly put it away and didn't say anything.
"We should get up there and find Eric Clapton." And she dragged Loki with her, still not mentioning the necklace.
"I thought we needed to wait a little longer."
"Change of plan." And Ellinor got Loki up to the back stage.
"I was going to try and get Eric Clapton to drink a bunch of water so he will need to use the restroom but I have a better idea. It involves you baby sitting the real Phil Collins."
"Again, have no clue who you are talking about."Loki said and Ellinor smirked.
"I'll introduce you." And Ellinor smiled, making an autograph book appear in her hand and went up to Phil Collins after his solo set.
"Mr. Collins! May I get an autograph?" Ellinor said to him and he smiled and gave her an autograph. She smiled sweetly and touched his arm.
"Now I hope you have a great nap." And he passed out.
"You killed him?"
"No. He is asleep. He won't remember a thing. I will fill his head with the real Live Aid memories later. Now just make sure no one sees him." And then Ellinor transformed to look like Phil Collins.
"Wish me luck! I get to play with Eric Clapton!" And she left to go play on stage.
Loki got stuck dragging the real Phil Collins into a spot where no one could see them. Ellinor however started a very fast beat for the song Layla to make Eric Clapton play the fastest version of Layla ever heard.
Ellinor started jamming out and was looking like she was having the time of her life up on stage.
After Layla, Ellinor got off stage and woke Phil Collins up and picked up where Ellinor left off without a word.
Ellinor ran back to Loki, the widest smile on her face. Loki smirked and helped her down the stage.
"So much for saying that you don't make friends very easily."
"Yeah yeah, I know, but music is so freeing. It frees the soul. Besides, I needed sell it up there."
"Sure. That makes sense." Loki said, Ellinor dragging Loki to where they can use the tempack.
"Well. We need to go. We might have more timelines to get to." And before Loki could even speak, Ellinor pulled Loki through the portal and quickly closed the portal into her office.
Loki fell into the sofa and Ellinor stepped in gracefully.
"All of this is a secret, okay?" And Ellinor changed her outfit with her magic.
"Why is that?"
"Let's just say there are too many ears here and I would like to keep things between you and me. You are good at lying so I trust that you will keep my secret."
"Why should I do that?"
"Who else are you going to trust here? I am willing to help you with what you need as long as you help me." Ellinor looked at Loki.
"I think you are keeping secrets from me." Loki said as he looks Ellinor in the eye
"And you aren't?"
