Wattever it Takes

"A Thunder God."

Kotal was pleased at his ability to harness the electrical energy, and he marveled at its power. He felt as though he could lift a building and he could sprint for days. This was the power of electricity, and he loved it.

Unfortunately, he knew that since the power was artificial, it wouldn't last long. He needed to act now.

He had already made short work of the officer that attempted to grab him. Now, the officer who wielded the electric gun reached for the original firearm. Attempting something, he used the same movement for when he fired sunbeams to launch a thunderbolt at the policeman. The attack succeeded as he was shoved backwards by the force of the lightning.

"Yes!" Kotal exclaimed, enjoying his new magic. However, there was little time for celebration, and the doors were literally open, so he began his escape.

The first thing he noticed when he walked out the door was a door labeled "Inmates' Items."

He smiled as he kicked the door down.

After retrieving his headress and loincloth, he continued his escape. Just wearing his gear once again instantly made him feel more powerful.

Kotal walked about another ten feet before his first opponent faced him. This man clearly had not seen the first display of Kotal's power, judging by him being only armed with a baton. Before he had so much as lifted it above his head to strike, Kotal slammed a palm on his chest and pumped a surge of electricity into him. The man twitched violently and slumped to the floor, unconscious.

"Woah, shit!" he heard behind him.

Kotal Kahn quickly turned around to see a number of prisoners following a ways behind him, led by none other than Beck.

"What are you doing?" he asked the group.

"Um," Beck answered, wisely nervous, "Following you, buddy?"

"Following me?" Kotal pondered, raising a brow.

"Yeah," he smiled a revolting smile at Kotal. "Lead the way, big guy."

Without another word, the Kahn fired a bolt at Beck's chest, sending him sprawling into the crowd of prisoners behind him. The others looked at Kotal with fear.

"Return to your cells or meet a similar fate." The men were running off before he had even finished.

The distraction, while brief, was evidently long enough for the policeman to gather their bearings and send me after the Kahn in full force. The first thing he saw when he turned around was a large squad of guards wearing what looked like plastic cloth armor, complete with helmet and vest. These men were armed with large guns as well.

To avoid being shot, the first thing Kotal did was fire a weak flash of lightning into the squad, blinding them for the briefest of moments. It enough, however, and he was able to dash into their midst, rendering their firearms difficult to wield. He punched, he kicked, he shoved, and he shocked. His onslaught succeeded in scattering his enemies so he could take them on the way he knew how; hand to hand.

One guard who had already abandoned his gun tried to put Kotal into a headlock, only to be grasped by the wrist and pumped with enough volts to send him to the ground. Another two tried to hit him with their guns. Kotal dodged one and blocked the other, catching the butt of the assault rifle in his hands. Trusting in the policeman's grip, he swung in a circle, bringing the officer with him and slamming him into a wall.

He quickly caught a baton swung at him and flipped the man who was holding it over his shoulder.

He quickly had to grab and redirect the gun of another guard as it sprayed bullets into the ceiling. He brought the weapon upwards and kicked the man holding it in the gut, sending him backwards as he lost his grip on his gun. Kotal swung the abandoned weapon at another officer's armored head. The gun shattered into pieces as it knocked out the guard.

There were only two guards left, but unfortunately, they had their bearings as well as the Kahn in their sights. They fired their guns at him relentlessly, only barely missing him as he ducked behind a corner. He was unable to even fire a quick lightning bolt as the policeman fired round after round in his direction, keeping him pinned behind cover. The gunfire grew louder as he heard the men waking closer to his corner.

"Come out with your hands behind your head and get on the ground," one of the armed guards commanded, "or we will resort to using lethal measures."

I assume that means you will kill me then. Kotal responded internally. The Earthrealmers were tiring him with their foolishness. As if he would surrender after making so much progress. However, he was running short on ideas. He doubted his teleporting powers at the moment, but that may be the only option available shortly.

A good emperor should never rule out a peaceful solution.

"Listen here!" he spat at the officers, "I will graciously offer you the option of surrender if you lay down your weapons and walk away from them. If you do not, I will continue to attack you. Whichever you choose, this battle ends here."

The guard's only response was to throw two gray cannisters around the corner. Kotal recognized them as Earthrealm military explosives.

Foolish villains!

Kotal had no time to even contemplate if he could even achieve teleportation with lightning magic. He immediately began the same process that he used with sun magic and prayed for the best.

He saw a blinding flash of white light and he was instantly behind the two Earthrealmers; even quicker than his sun magic teleportation.

He stormed over to the two guards, who were still unaware of his relocation, and grabbed each of them by the nape of the neck. They shouted with surprise as he lifted them off of the ground and slammed their heads together, knocking them both out simultaneously. He scoffed as the tossed them to the side.

"Do not provoke a god," he said to the cluster of unconscious bodies in the hall.

Suddenly, the canisters at the corner detonated, but instead of fire, the hall was filled with a pale gas. Kotal swore as it grew closer to him. He attempted to teleport away once again but, judging by the light of his tattoos fading, it seemed that he had already run out of lightning magic. Next time he harnessed the power, he should take it from something more powerful than a handheld device.

"Damn," he growled as he was forced backwards by the gas. He didn't what it was or what it would do, but he expected the worse at this point.

He was officially out of advantages and out of ideas by now. However, when all else fails he always had one final plan.

Brute force.

Kotal took a deep breath before charging into the gas with a loud battle cry. Out of precaution, he kept his eyes clenched shut even as he slammed into a wall and dashed in the next available direction. He didn't open his eyes until he was certain the gas was behind him.

However, when he opened his eyes he was faced with a barred door, shut and locked. Kotal Kahn had a deep scowl on his face as he walked to the door and grasped the bars. A few strong shakes and he ripped the door off of its hinges and let it fall to the ground.

All that stood between him and the door out of the prison was a single policeman, armored with nothing but a hat and pointing a pistol at his chest in a shaky hand. The man was quivering in his boots, as the Earthrealmers would say.

"Drop the weapon, and get out of my sight," Kotal demanded in a soft, dangerous tone. For a second, it looked as though the guard would pull the trigger, but after a few moments the gun fell to the floor and he frantically sprinted away from the blue beast.

Kotal sighed as he looked at the glass doors that marked his escape. He walked through them and immediately revelled in the warm sunlight, feeling its power soak into him like a dried sponge.

Without another second's delay, he teleported away from the prison in a swirl of fire and smoke. He didn't even have a destination in mind. All he really knee was that he was finally free of that hell.

I am quickly beginning to see why Shao Kahn hated this realm.

Freeeedooooom!

Kotal Kahn is out and back in action, as if any prison can hold the true war god :)
