Dinnertime
"...alright. And with that, meeting adjourned." Kotal Kahn announced.
"Hallelujah!" Erron Black exclaimed and rested his forehead on the table. "I hate these meetings. How long was that?"
Reptile looked outside the window at the sun. From what he could tell, it was around five or six o'clock. "Couldn't have been more than four hours. Shorter than you predicted." He added with a sharp-toothed smile.
"This one has trouble understanding why you two find simple meetings to be unbearable," clicked D'Vorah.
"Do not berate them, D'Vorah," Kotal interjected, "even I do not enjoy these meetings."
"You find these entertaining?" Ermac asked D'Vorah.
"It is not that I enjoy them," she replied, "this one simply recognizes the need for such meetings." She looked over to Erron with a smirk, "and this one does not whine about them like others."
Erron responded by once again giving D'Vorah the finger, a gesture she did not understand but knew that it was not a kind one, while Reptile laughed and Ermac even cracked a rare smile.
The laughter was enough to wake Ferra from her four-hour nap. She stretched and gave a childish groan before saying, "What funny?"
"My generals are behaving like children once again," Kotal Kahn said nodding to D'Vorah and Black, "I swear you're the most mature of my entire army." He added with a smile. Ferra returned it, feeling triumphant. He patted her on the head and left to the dining hall.
"The chefs should be done with supper," he called behind him, "we'll be having quite the feast tonight."
"What's the occasion?" Reptile asked as he got up to follow the emperor. The others followed suit.
"With the civil war over and the treaty made with Earthrealm, I find it fitting to finally celebrate," Kotal said, "what with Mileena dead, her followers scattered, and peace made with Earthrealm, I find it most suitable to throw a feast. Any objections?" he added rhetorically.
"No way," Erron quickly responded, "we haven't had a feast in ages. What're we havin'?"
"Ferra wants cakes!" Ferra shouted upon Torr's shoulders, "and Torr wants fruities!" Torr grunted in agreement.
"It is a feast my friends," Kotal Kahn said looking over his shoulder at Ferra/Torr, "rest assured, you will be able to eat what you wish."
They all finally made it to the immense dining hall. It withheld a ten foot long table with eight chairs. A bone and obsidian chandelier hung from the ceiling, and many trophies and animal heads lined the walls. A stone arch on one wall of the room led to the Outworld streets, where merchants and peddlers could be seen packing up their shops preparing to make it home before dark.
"Tonight," Kotal loudly announced, "we have raided the kitchens!"
A few minutes later, they were becoming surrounded by foods of all sorts. Fruits and vegetables from Earthrealm, fruits and vegetables from Outworld, bread, cheese, chicken, turkey, ham, beef, rattlesnake, hare, unrecognizable Outworld meats, wines from Earthrealm and Outworld, pudding, cakes, and even Earthrealm candy for Ferra (though Reptile took some as well utilizing his long tongue, and D'Vorah absolutely did not hide any in her black cloak).
"Kotal Kahn," Erron said, his eyes wide in amazement, "never have
I ever been so happy to serve you." With that, he took the bandana off his face and began to pile food on his plate.
"You are too kind, my lord" Reptile said, drooling. He then shot out his tongue and dragged a whole roasted chicken to his seat and began to ravenously chow down.
"Ferra see cakes!" Ferra happily announced while Torr passed her vegetables and fruits, "what big idea?" Torr looked at her and grunted.
"Ferra no want eat that!" Ferra said angrily, "Ferra am strong. Me no need ick greenies!"
Torr just silently stared at her.
"Grr. Fine," Ferra mumbled and reluctantly began to eat a juicy, blue fruit.
"D'Vorah," Ermac said looking at the Kytinn with his glowing, green eyes, "why do you always eat raw meat?"
"Yrr," Erron said around a mouthful of food. He swallowed and continued, "even Reptile eats meat cooked and he's pretty much a two-legged gator."
Reptile, not knowing what a "gator" is, wondered if that was an insult.
"This one does not mind cooked flesh," the Kytinn responded putting a hand on her chest, "but the others prefer to eat the meat at its purest state." She then extended her hand towards her plate of raw pork. Bugs of all sorts appeared from her wrist and began to devour the meat.
"No, no, no, no!" Erron said, throwing a grape at D'Vorah. She looked up and glared at him. "I draw the line at you decomposin' food at the table."
D'Vorah made a sound that was similar to a high pitched growl, but she retracted her bugs and instead pulled over a plate of fish to her spot and began to eat one.
Torr, easily the biggest at the table, was devouring a side of beef singlehandedly. Although he occasionally gave Ferra pieces of it when she asked.
"Why Mac Mac eat only yummies?" Ferra asked the soul keeper.
"We do not require such nutrients as food," Ermac explained to Ferra while levitating an apple towards himself, "but we do enjoy the taste of sweetness." He took a bite of the apple. "Fruits and wine are our favorites."
"Can Ferra try wine?"
"Absolutely not!" Reptile immediately snarled.
"Then, can Ferra have cake now?" Ferra asked loudly indicating to her hastily eaten plate of food.
"Oh for Christ's sake," Erron said, quite annoyed, "Torr, give her a damn cake."
Torr finally relented and passed Ferra a cherry pie. She gave a childish "yipee!" thanked Torr, and plunged her hands in the pie and ate it by the handful.
And by Ferra's lead, everyone decided it was time for dessert.
