Chapter 8
Stampy pulled away, barely moving out of the way of the boulder, his heart pounding as he heard the blood pouring faster and rising past his wrists at what was becoming an alarming rate. "I'm okay! Well... Kind of!" He replied, voice cracking from the pain. He turned to his still trapped leg and tail and bit his lip slightly before pulling his hood around and biting down on it when he stuffed some in his mouth and started trying to pull free.
He screamed in pain but kept trying until his leg was finally free. Tears ran down his face and he felt like he was about to pass out but pulled on his tail until it too, was free. He gave another muffled scream, the blood almost up to his waist from where he was sitting.
Jason panicked when he heard Stampy's screams. He threw himself against the giant boulder dividing them and attempted to climb it. The blood poured down, making Jason slip on the rock and fall to the ground hitting his head. He struggled to stand up, dizzy and disoriented, and fell back to his knees.
"Captain!" Stella called out, concerned.
Stampy looked at the rock and ejected his claws and pulled himself up and over it, sliding down to Jason, giving another cry as he landed and collapsed.
His pajama pant leg was torn up along with his leg but it was hard to tell what blood was his and what blood was from the large amount that still poured in.
They suddenly heard a crack and what sounded like a waterfall on the other side of the boulder, blood flowing through the cracks quickly.
Jason crawled up to Stampy, his breathing becoming quick and heavy. "Stampy what do we do?" His eyes widened, tears starting to form.
"I-I don't know..." he admitted, shaking.
Stella scanned around them. "Captain, I believe you might have enough charge to blast through the rocks. It will take a couple blasts but if I can show you where, it should open enough space for you to get out or at least keep the room from flooding."
Stampy looked at Jason as the blood was about half way up both their chests.
Still a bit drowsy from hitting his head Jason held the shulker above the blood, pulling one of his gauntlets out and putting it on over his other gloves.
With his arm shaking Jason aimed towards the rock and fired.
Some of the rocks broke away revealing the next couple of layers. "Good shot. Just a couple more." Stampy encouraged him.
Jason shot again, the beams illuminating the room. He was about to shoot again before his head started hurting. The pain was overwhelming, and Jason's arm began to shake vigorously, unable to get a clear aim.
Stampy noticed this and took hold of his arm to help stabilize it. "Hang on Jason. We almost got this." He was shaking a little too but was able to help keep it straight.
The blood was almost up to Jason's upper chest.
Jason closed his eyes and kept firing, more and more of the rock chipping away and falling into the blood. Eventually a small hole was broken through, a beam of light shining. The only problem was that the hole was too high to reach.
Stampy could now see Jason more clearly and his eyes widened, seeing how pale he looked. "Jason! Come on, we're almost there! Just a little more..." stampy tried, pulling on Jason, trying to keep him above the liquid. "If I lift you up, can you reach it?" Stampy asked him.
"I-I think so." He tried firing again, but he was out of charge. The blood was almost to his chin. He clung onto Stampy, struggling to stay afloat.
Stampy lifted him up some, moving him onto his shoulders, trying to keep him higher. "How's that?" He asked, trying to ignore the blood still steadily rising to about his upper chest now.
Jason reached up to the hole, pushing his hand against the stone, the sharp edge of it slicing through his fingerless gloves. He let out a yelp but continued, pushing and pulling at the rocks. Steadily the hole began to grow, more light seeping in.
Stampy tilted his head upward as the blood reached his neck. "How's it going up there?"
"Better." Jason looked down realizing how far up the blood was. He punched at the rocks until there was finally a hole big enough to crawl through. He lifted himself up, climbing through the hole. He turned back to Stampy and reached his bloodied arm out. "Grab on!"
Stampy reached up trying to grab hold but there was at least a foot or two of space between them still since he was sitting on the rocky floor, unable to stand. "J-Jason, I can't reach!" He called, trying to keep his head above the red liquid, fear in his green eyes.
Jason slid down further, using one hand to keep his grip on the rocks. He reached out as far as he could towards Stampy.
It was still about a foot away and the blood was up against Stampy's chin with his head tilted back, looking up at Jason. "I still can't reach that!"
"Stampy you're gonna have to stand up!" Jason called. "Please... just trust me..."
Stampy stared at him. He slowly nodded slightly and reached his hand out to try to get some leverage to try to stand. He grabbed the side of a rock and started trying to stand only for his grip to slip, sending him splashing back down into the blood, disappearing underneath it.
"STAMPY!" Jason cried out, tears began to flow down his cheeks. He put a hand over his mouth in an attempt to cover his sobs. "Oh god, please no..."
Stampy came back up, clawing at the side of the rocks, gasping for air. He couldn't see anything, blood covered his glasses and his face and he couldn't wipe it away. "J-jason?! I can't see!" He called out, using his grip to stand up on his good leg just to the side of Jason's reach.
"To your left!" Jason called , reaching toward Stampy as far as he could. "Come on you can do this!"
Stampy carefully moved towards the left, keeping his grip on the rocks as he moved. The blood was only about half way up his chest now. He reached his hand out, unsure of where Jason's was.
Jason reached out a bit further and was able to touch Stampy's fingertips, but he wasn't close enough to grab onto.
Stampy scooted a bit closer, grasping the hand. "O-okay... how do I get out?" He asked, trying to stay calm.
"Up here. I'm gonna pull you up ok?" Jason reached more and grabbed Stampy's other hand.
Stampy yelped slightly as he used his bad foot to help move to where Jason could help him. "A-are you sure you can??" Stampy asked, ready to help try to get out if he could.
"Yeah." Jason said, a bit unsure of himself. He took a deep breath and began to pull Stampy up.
Stampy tried to help by pushing himself upward with his legs against the rocks, wincing a little as he pressed against them as he was pulled upward.
It took a lot of effort, but eventually he had gotten Stampy up to where he could grab onto the opening.
Stampy grasped the edge of the rock and pulled himself the rest of the way out, shaking.
Jason slid down the other side of the rock, blood splashing up around him. The blood was coming in a lot slower here, and was only a bit above his ankles.
Stampy was shaking as he stayed on top of the rock. "J-jason?? How do I get down??"
Jason held out his arms. "Jump, trust me on this. I'll try to catch you."
Stampy frowned. "Jason, I can't see you. I'm going to trust you on this, but I can't jump very well with one leg so be ready for me..."
"I'm right below you." Jason reassured him. "Go whenever you're ready." He spoke in a calm voice.
"Okay... here I go." Stampy leapt at him, giving a cry of pain as he did.
Thankfully Jason was able to catch Stampy in his arms. Unfortunately the cat was a lot heavier than he thought, and the two came crashing to the ground.
Stampy gave a sharp cry as he landed on the ground.
Jason quickly stood up, pulling Stampy up with him. The entrance of the cave was just visible, but the blood was beginning to pick up speed.
Stampy winced. "A-are we out?"
"Almost." Jason wrapped Stampy's arm around him to give him the support to stand. "Come on." He began to walk towards the light.
Stampy limped after him, hissing as he moved his leg.
Jason led Stampy to the outside of the cave, squinting in the sunlight.
Stampy was shaking from the pain in his body. "J-Jase... I need to get off my leg..."
There was a fallen log nearby. Jason led him over to it and sat Stampy down. He took off his glasses and wiped the blood off using one of the few clean spots left on his shirt.
Stampy's ears flicked back and forth and he tried to clear some of the blood from his eyes and face but wasn't very successful.
Jason handed Stampy his glasses back, still a bit bloody but at least usable. "Hey... you ok?"
"I...no... I'm in a lot of pain..." he replied, accepting the glasses but kept his eyes shut, still having blood covering them. "Do you have anything I could possibly wipe my face off with??" He asked.
Jason took off his jacket, the inside still being clear of blood. He handed it to Stampy. "Everything's going to be fine."
Stampy carefully wiped his face with it, apologizing about it Jason. "I hope so... it hurts a lot. Like its stinging and kind of numb but still in such pain..." he tried to explain, face pale now that it was clear of most of the blood.
Jason looked at Stampy's leg. "That'll definitely bruise, but thankfully it isn't bleeding or broken."
Stampy frowned. "I'm not sure if it is or not... considering how much pain its causing me..."
"Doesn't look broken, could be strained though." Jason nodded, he looked down at his hand, realizing for the first time that he had cut it.
Stampy nodded slightly and looked at Jason. "You okay?"
Jason moved his hand behind his back. "Yeah, just a scratch." He lied, wanting to focus on Stampy's own injuries.
Stampy frowned a little but nodded and didn't press. "Good thing the cave isn't far from here. We should be able to make it back to clean up and try to tend to our injures..." he pointed out, keeping his leg propped up slightly.
"Yeah." Jason agreed, scrunching his jacket and holding it with his bleeding arm. He stood up. "Need help?"
"Y-yeah." Stampy pushed himself up, taking a sharp breath.
Jason wrapped Stampy's arm back around then began to walk back to the cave. Despite the horrid conditions that they had just escaped from, it seemed perfectly fine outside.
Stampy limped along beside him. They soon made it to their cave.
