Chapter 7
During the night, the rain had slacked off and their fire had dwindled down to nothing but warm embers. A chilled breeze whistled through the cavern making Stampy's ears flicker at the touch and he rolled over with a small groan. Jason was the first to awake. He had gotten up to sit at the mouth of the cave, looking at the terrain outside. The terrain was still a bit flooded and just stained red from the storm last night.
"Good morning, Captain." Stella greeted him.
Jason turned around to face the helmet. "Morning, Stella."
"How are you feeling this morning, Captain?"
"Could be better." He chuckled. "You doing ok?"
"I am doing well Captain." She replied.
Stampy stirred awake. "Hmm? Wha- oh." He realized they were still in the cave. "It wasn't just a bad dream..." His ears laid back.
"I wish it was..." Jason said, looking at Stampy. "Good morning."
"Morning." He rubbed his eyes and placed his cleaned glasses on. "Should we try to gather some materials or something?" He asked, uncertainly.
Jason nodded. "We're gonna need more than just a few sticks to get outta here." He joked. "Hey Stella?"
"Yes, Captain?" She responded.
"Mind if I move you?" He asked, pointing to the choker around his neck.
"Go ahead, Captain."
Jason went over to the helmet and took out the Stella's chip. He then opened up the star charm on his choker and slipped the chip in, causing it to have a faint orange glow.
"Can you hear me, Captain?" She tried.
"Yup!" Jason smiled, Now finally being able to but his helmet back into the shulker.
Stampy stood up. "That's clever! Keeps her with us while you don't have to wear your helmet the whole time."
Jason nodded. "Yup! And Tyler said this thing would never be useful." He chuckled to himself. "I used to use it so that I could listen to music when building." He admitted.
Stampy laughed. "It seems a lot of people like to do that." He commented.
"Glad I'm not the only one, then." He smiled. By this time the sun had already come out, and the forest now looked as if none of the bloody havoc had ever happened that previous night.
Stampy tugged his dry hoodie on and came over. "So looking for some trees first?"
Jason nodded. "Yup, I used all the ones I had on the fire last night."
"Alright! That shouldn't be too hard!" Stampy stepped outside and started looking around, but stayed close to Jason.
Luckily the storm had knocked down quite a few trees, so finding wood was pretty easy. Jason walked around the forest, picking up the fallen logs
Stampy helped carry some too, tail waving behind him. "Do you think this is enough for now?"
Jason nodded "Yup!" He placed down the shulker, dumping the logs inside. "I like this thing."
"Yeah, shulkers are pretty neat!" He agreed.
"Shulkers?" Jason cocked his head to the side. "Is that what they're called?"
"Huh? You don't know what these are?"
"Never heard of them last time I checked..." Jason paused.
"Then you're probably really behind on a lot of things..." Stampy commented, placing his wood in.
Jason chuckled. "I guess a lot can change in 2 years."
Stampy nodded. "Yeah. You'd be surprised by how much."
"Hm." Jason thought to himself. "What if we can't even recognize home when we get back?"
Stampy frowned, ears laying back. "I hope we can..."
Jason nodded, Taking a couple of wooden planks and beginning to create a crafting table. Stampy gathered a little more wood and brought it back over. "We should see if we can find string or wool for beds. We don't know how long we'll be here."
"Yeah, We'll also need some swords." Jason set the table down and started to craft two sets of wooden tools.
Stampy nodded and took the first pickaxe. "I'll start getting stone!"
"I'll come with you, probably isn't safe to go alone here..."
"Alright." Stampy agreed and headed back into the cave. Jason followed after, handing Stampy a wooden sword.
"Thanks." He told him, accepting the blade as they wandered into the cave. The cave was fairly small, but extremely dark, not a single ore could be seen. Stampy frowned as he tried to look around. "Can you make a torch?"
Jason took his glove out of the shulker, pressing a button and shooting out a small beam, igniting a small piece of stone. He dipped a few sticks into the flames and handed one to Stampy.
"Thanks. Now lets see what we can find in here..." He started to look around the small cave hoping for any signs of somewhere to start digging.
Jason walked to the opposite end of the cave. When he couldn't find anything he began to mine into the ground. Stampy glanced over and started to come over to help start digging downward when he spotted something above him closer to the entrance and went over.
Iron!
He placed down a block of wood and stood on it to reach it and gave a couple of solid swings, not noticing the stone around it cracking as well and the block dropped. "Hey, Jason! I got-!" Stampy was cut off by the first seven or so blocks of the cave entrance collapsing from the ceiling. The dust kicked up, snuffed out the flames, their only source of light, and Jason heard Stampy cry out in pain.
"Stampy!" Jason ran to the other end of the cave, accidentally dropping his own torch to the ground. He ran over next to Stampy, tripping over a few stones in the process. He looked up at the blocked entrance. "Crap..."
Stampy blinked a couple of times, trying to get his eyes to adjust to the darkness, some tears running down his face from both the dust in them and the intense pain in his leg and part of his tail. "J-Jas-son." His voice had gone up an octave, laced with pain.
"Are you ok?" Jason asked. He could barely make out the other, but eventually realized that he was stuck. "Oh no..." Jason kneeled down and began to move a few of the smaller rocks.
Stampy was trying to keep his breathing somewhat steady and cried out in pain again. "M-My leg and pa-part of my t-tail..." He explained, trying to keep from looking to see how bad it was. It hurt a lot...
"It's ok.... You're gonna be ok..." Jason reassured him, continuing to move the rocks. All the small rocks were gone, but the rest seemed too heavy for him to lift.
"J-Jason... It really hurts..." He hissed softly.
Something lightly tapped the top of Jason's hat. He looked up at the ceiling. Something was dripping from the ceiling. Was it... blood.?"
Jason pushed harder on the larger rocks, beginning to panic. "We need to hurry."
"Jason! Careful!" Stampy warned, watching him push the lower rocks. "You need to start higher up or it'll collapse!" He then felt something hit him too and frowned. "I... I hope that's water..."
"Sorry to tell ya, but I don't think it is." Jason winced at the drips falling into his hair. He moved up to get the higher rocks, becoming more and more frantic.
Stampy's ears laid flat and he whimpered. "Well... It's just dripping so that-" He was cut off by more consistent drips starting to become more like a small stream. His eyes widened. "Uh... Jason? You might want to work a bit faster!"
"I'm hurrying!" Jason began to throw stones across the room, cutting and bruising his arm in the process. Blood began to cover the rocks, which surprisingly made them a bit easier to move. Stampy had tried to move away from the bloodstream but only managed to hurt himself more and cried out.
The stream was starting to grow bigger and flow faster, spilling across the stone ground.
At this rate the rocks were almost gone. Jason's whole body ached as he moved the heavy stones, sweat mixing with the pouring blood.
Stampy watched him, fearful, as the blood was up to his wrists from where he had his hands propping himself up. He noticed a rock above Jason on the next layer forward was loose and starting to fall forward. "JASON MOVE!" He called.
Jason fell back, a large rock falling between the two. Jason barely missed the rock, a side of it cutting into his cheek. "Stampy!" He called out, his view of the other completely disappearing.
