Chapter 28

Meanwhile the temperature outside kept decreasing, Stampy and Quentin getting weaker by the minute.

Stampy was trying to stay awake but the cold just zapped his energy as he tried to get up. He felt so weak and stiff. He ejected his claws and started trying to dig a way out. Though there wasn't much progress.

"The ground's frozen solid..." Quentin said. "Don't tire yourself out." He was sitting on the ground, knees tucked into his chest.

"B-but... W-We have t-to... t-t-ry...." Stampy shook with each breath, claws still scraping against the ice.

"St-Stampy stop.." Quentin placed a shaking hand onto his shoulder. "P-please, y-you could h-hurt yourself."

"B-But..." He trailed off staring at Quentin, his glasses were lightly iced over from his breath and tears ran down his cold cheeks before looking down. "I... I guess h-he was r-right..."

"A-about what?"

"W-We're gonna d-d-die here..."

"N-no we aren't..."

"Then what do you think is gonna happen, Quentin?!" He snapped.

"I don't know!" Quentin yelled back.

Stampy sighed, shuddering again. "W-were gonna run out of o-oxygen eventually.... I-if we d-don't f-freeze to d-death fi-first..."

"S-stop... d-don't say that.." Quentin was starting to tear up now.

Stampy looked at him. "W-well... you d-don't want me to t-try to get out so-so wh-what do you w-want?"

"I-It's no use..." Quentin sighed. "The g-ground is frozen and if we b-broke the ice we'd be b-buried alive..."

"Well..." he sighed. "I guess we just... wait?"

"I... don't know..." Quentin was losing hope. "W-what if y-you're r-right..."

Stampy took another shuddering breath. "W-well... we got that-that w-wool..."

Quentin pulled the wool out of his pocket. "I d-don't know h-how much g-good it can d-do."

"Cuddling could at least keep us somewhat warmer hopefully..."

Quentin let out a dry chuckle.. "I guess it would..."

Stsmpy crawled over and curled up against him. "Well... hopefully Jason is safe..."

"He should still be in the cave..." Quentin pit an arm around him. "I doubt that Stella would've let him leave."

"Y-yeah..." he replied. "If he came looking, would they even find us?"

"Not under all this snow no..."

"Do... do you think there is any chance we could... survive this?"

"I..." Quentin fell silent and bit his lip.

Stampy gave a weak dry chuckle. "Y-yeah... th-that's what I th-thought t-too..."

Quentin sighed. "So I guess this might be it then..."

Stampy gave a small nod and a weak smile. "I-it was n-nice meeting y-you..." he muttered softly before tears started to run down his face with a soft gasp. "M-my g-gosh..." he muttered. "S-s-sqaishey..." he whispered, tears running down his face again. "S-she'll n-never kn-know wh-what happened..."

"Y-you too." Quentin smiled back. "I guess n-no one back h-home will never k-know..." He was crying now, his grip on Stampy growing weaker and weaker.

Stampy nodded slightly. "I was supposed to be getting married about now..." he whispered but noticed Quentin was getting weaker and frowned. "H-hey... you have to s-stay awake! I... I'm going to get us out of here!" He finally declared and let Quentin have all the warm wool and reluctantly pulled away and started to sharpen his claws carefully on the ice before sliding to the wall of the ice sphere and placing the sharpest tips on the ice and taking a deep breath.

It was risky but... well. They'd die if he didn't try anyway so what did they have to lose?

He carefully pressed and started to trace a large circle in the ice, carefully going over it again and again until he was able to pry it off and onto the ground, not shattering the ice supporting the rest of the snow. He gave a weak laugh. "Quentin! We are getting out of here!"

"S-Stampy! W-what are you?!" Quentin's eyes widened and he stood up, his legs shaking.

Stampy carefully started to dig at the snow, making the beginnings of a tunnel they could both fit through. He worked swiftly but with great care and was several feet in rather quickly, the snow having frozen to hold its shape. "Come on, but carefully!"

Quentin pulled his hood over his head to push down the fun on his head before crawling into the tunnel. He tucked his tail as low as he could so that it barely touched the top.

Stampy continued to dig, carefully starting to curve up and towards the surface before finally breaking free and into the light of the setting sun. He took a sharp gasp of the crisp air and carefully climbed out and helped pull Quentin out before falling back and laughing weakly. "We... we did it..."

Quentin fell onto his knees. "W-We're alive..." he turned to face Stampy with a wide smile on his face. "T-thank you..."

Stampy just gave him a thumbs up from the ground. "W-We sh-should try to find our way b-back..."

Quentin nodded and tried to stand up, but fell back onto the ground.

Stampy barely managed to stand himself. He carefully moved over to Quentin. "Y-You o-okay?"

"Y-Yeah, just a little s-sore that's all." Quentin stretched out his legs.

Stampy offered him a hand to get up. "If we l-lay around, w-we will probably p-pass out f-from the c-cold..."

Quentin grabbed onto his hand and stumbled up. "Y-Yeah, hw should h-hurry." The wind was beginning to pick up and snow was still falling from the sky.

Stampy shivered but nodded and they pushed onward quickly but carefully.

Quentin continued to get weaker, his pace slowing down to almost a crawl. He could barely keep his eyes open, and his head spun.

Stampy turned to him. "Q-Quentin?"

"St-Stampy, I don't k-know how much longer I can g-go on." He had stopped walking at this point.

"I... I can try to s-support you?? L-like arm over shoulders?"

Quentin looked up at him. "I... I guess?" He was swaying in place.

Stampy frowned and pulled his arm over his shoulders. "Alright... come on..." they started to try to keep moving on.

Quentin could only feel the world getting darker, slipping in and out of consciousness.

Stampy tried to keep him going as much as he could, leading him towards the cave. "We are almost there."

They were almost to the cave when Quentin blacked out, his body becoming limp and falling to the snowy ground.

"Quentin!" Stampy knelt next to him and hesitated before dragging him, towards the cave and yelling. "JASON, STELLA! HELP!"
