Chapter 24

The forest was peaceful yet again, the group encountering no problems at all besides their past injuries.

Stampy suddenly shuddered as a breeze whistled past. "Brr! Is it getting colder??"

"It is..." Quentin agreed. "The sun is still out though..."

Stampy looked over at Jason and hummed before gasping. "Stella, is there a field nearby?"

She turned to him. "Yes. About 500 blocks that way," she pointed to the right. "It is a large flower field. Why?"

"Can we make a stop there??"

"I suppose so."

"But the beacon...?" Quentin asked, cocking his head to the side. "Why stop now?"

Stampy slightly moved his head as a gesture towards Jason. "Why not? Its nearby. We could all do with just some time to unwind and goof off!" He grinned.

Quentin his mouth to protest but once he looked at Jason he shut it. "Sounds great!" He smiled.

Stampy nodded and headed that way. "Come on then!"

Stella glanced at Jason and helped him along.

Quentin followed, with Jason lagging behind. It wasn't long until they reached the flower field, which had a large river flowing through the side of it.

Stampy beamed seeing all the colors and the flowing river and ran forward into it.

"Come on!"

"Hey! I can't run!" Quentin called after him, trying to pick up his pace as much as he could.

Stella helped Jason over and to sit in the grass, watching the boys.

Stampy's tail swishes behind him as he bounded around the field, gasping as he tripped and fell into the flowers, sending petals into the air as he vanished within them.

Quentin laughed and followed after Stampy, going towards the river. Jason sat on the grass, taking in his surroundings. Though it was barely noticeable, there seemed to be a hint of wonder in his eyes.

Stampy sat up in the flowers, his ears the only thing truly visible above them. They twitched as he looked around before spotting Quentin moving towards the river and ran forward, tackling them both into the water.

Quentin let out a yell as they both fell in. He sat up, wiping his eyes. "You're lucky I'm a water-type." He nudged Stampy. "Or else you'd be dead." He chuckled and splashed a giant wave at the other.

Stampy laughed and splashed back at him, quickly ducking under the water to dodge his and swam a bit further downstream to get some distance.

"I thought cats were supposed to hate water?" Quentin called. He swam after him, being partially aquatic he was quickly able to catch up.

Stampy turned around to face him under the water and swam up to get his breath before diving under again only to get caught off guard by the current of the water pushing him down a small drop over the hill and into the next part of the river. He opened his eyes under the water and tried to swim up to get his breath back but found his foot stuck as he was underneath the small waterfall.

"S-Stampy?!" Quentin panicked as he saw Stampy flow down the river. He dived back in, following the current down the waterfall were he landed with a thud. The current pulled him further from Stampy. Quentin closed his eyes and blew into the water, a column of bubbles flowing out that launched him back. He fought against the current until he reached Stampy. Quentin swam to where his foot was stuck and began to tug.

Stampy tried to watch him but being trapped under the fall it kept pushing him around, making it harder to keep what air he had left. He was starting to black out.

Quentin kept pulling, his tail fin rapidly flapping to keep him in place. With a few more harsh tugged Stampy's foot was freed, and the two went barreling down the river.

Stampy weakly grasped onto him and waited under they were stopped in the pond where the river stopped and it grew still. The only reason he still clung to Quentin was his claws, caught in his shirt.

Quentin stood up, moving Stampy so that he was over his shoulder. He stared at the water a bit before swinging his arm and muttering under his breath. Suddenly the water split in half, creating a walkway to the shore. Quentin ran out of the pond before gently placing Stampy onto the sandy shore. The water closed up behind them.

Stampy gasped for air, coughing up water as he rolled onto his side panting heavily before looking up at Quentin with a grin as if mostly unphased by the whole situation. "Thanks Kippy!"

Quentin sat down next to him. "N-no problem..." He panted. He gazed at Stampy with a confused look, how could he be so happy even at a time like this? More importantly... "What did you just call me?"

Stampy grinned a bit brighter. "Kippy!" He repeated.

Quentin's face went red. He'd never had another nickname outside of 'husky' before, and that was more of a stage name then anything. He continued staring at Stampy, mouth partially opened and no clue of what to say.

He suddenly shook, sending water flying everywhere, still grinning. "Let go find Jase! Come on, Kippy!" Stampy suddenly took off to get back over the hill.

"Hey!" Quentin hopped up and ran after him. "At least let me catch my breath first!"

Stampy was already halfway up the hill and came bounding over to Jason, having stayed low to the ground so when he suddenly appeared, soaked, out of the floors it startled him and Stella. "Jason!!"

Jason fell back, letting out a small yelp. "Stampy!" Quentin appeared over the hill. "Don't scare him like that!"

Stampy turned to Quentin. He was covered in pollen and petals clinging to his wet form. "But Kippyyyy!" He whined, with a huff, leaning back until he fell on his back. He then tilted his head back to see, though be it upside down, Jason. "He didn't come play with ussss!"

Jason still clung onto the suit, refusing to say a word. Behind Stampy Quentin rolled his eyes. "He isn't feeling that well dude."

Stampy pouted at them both. "Then feel better fasterrrrr..." He fussed.

Stella shook her head, a small laugh coming from her. "I think we should move on. There seems to be something here affecting Stampy the way that catnip did..."

Jason pointed towards the river then back to Stampy, staring at Quentin. Quentin thought for a moment before it hit him. "Hey Stampy, look at me."

Stampy looked at him, tilting his head. "Yes, Kippy?"

Quentin stared at Stampy. He concentrated for a second before spitting out a large stream of water right at Stampy's face.

Stampy cried out in surprise, leaping into the air and scrambling away, hiding behind Jason and Stella with a hiss. "That was rude, Kippy!" He fussed, fur bristled but a minute later, looked tired and slumped against Jason, blinking slightly. "J-Jason??? I..." He stared at the flowers and groaned. "I got a bit high again, didn't I?" He gave a small laugh.

Jason nodded, the smallest smile starting to appear on his face. Quentin chuckled and sat across from them. "Guess there is some catnip around here then. At least all that running got my leg feeling better."

Stampy groaned slightly as he remembered what had happened. "Oh gosh... I called you Kippy!" He laughed.

Quentin laughed again, clutching his stomach. "Honestly, I don't mind that." He nudged Stampy with his elbow.

Jason chuckled.

Stella seemed happy that they were happy and let them laugh.

Stampy grinned. "Then I hereby dub thee Kippy!" He fell over laughing before sitting back up. "But seriously though, thanks for saving me back there."

"No problem." Quentin smile. "I mean, I wouldn't let you drown." He joked. "Kippy shall always be there for you." Quentin declared, slapping Stampy on the back.

Jason suddenly burst out laughing.

Stampy grinned. "Good to know!"

Stella stood, helping Jason up. "We should keep moving."

Quentin smiled at Jason's laughter. "So we really have to go now? Man, I really wanted to swim some more..."

"It is best if we keep on moving." Stella confirmed.

"I guess you're right..." Quentin agreed. "It's almost noon already."

She nodded. "This way." She led them back to their path.
