Chapter Eighteen

Unedited.

The sphere in Sophie's hands burst and shattered into gold light, as the kitchen became a battle zone.

Elves, humans, goblins, ogres, trolls and gnomes were at war. Not against each other, no they were fighting one enemy.

With glowing red eyes, sharp pointed teeth, and curved horns on their head, killing everything in their path, they looked more like demons then anything, Sophie and her friends found out just what Dark elves were.

They weren't necessarily dark, yes some had dark skin, but others were pale as ivory, or a dirt brown. They fought like mad men, killing each other, and everything else near them, they had blood that was black like tar. Sophie spotted an arrow shoot straight through one's heart and she didn't seem to notice as she continued fighting. It was a blood bath, in the kitchen. Though everything was holographic, Sophie dodged as an axe wielding viking swung and loped the head of a dark elf off.

Humans fought beside elves, ogres fought by goblins, trolls by gnomes, they fought for their lives against the demons who had no consciousness, as they used everything they had to fight. Sophie heard her friends shocked and surprised yelps. But Sophie was focused on the ogre King and Goblin Queen fighting, back to back they were surrounded. Fighting harder then anyone in the blood bath. Axes, darts, clubs, swords and every other sort of weapon they used were in constant use. The battlefield quickly switched to Eternalia. Eight Dark Elves were bound and gagged, kneeling before a council who Sophie didn't recognize.

They spoke in twelves voices, of one answer. "We hereby banish you from Eternalia." Then it showed the same elves bowed before the ogres, goblins, humans, trolls and gnomes. Their answers were the same. Banishment. The elves were sent to roam through the mutual territories. But one by one they killed each other off, to desperate for blood shed to hold themselves back, the last one died by falling on his own sword. Every single creature, animal alike had it's memories wiped clean, no sign of the pollution...then came the humans betrayal, then the holograph stopped. Silence sounded like drums in Sophie's ears.

Her heart pounded as she swallowed hard. She'd be facing one of those things. The Neverseen had created one. Before anyone could even speak, Elwin fainted.

"He's not waking up." Linh said after she had slapped Elwin's cheeks with water, tried smelling salts from his bag. Nothing worked. Dex was pacing, "What are we going to do?" He asked. Keefe and Fitz were arguing over what best way to try and wake up Elwin, with warm or cold water. Tam's jaw was clenched as he kneeled next to his sister and Biana, who were both digging through Elwin's bag, trying to find more smelling salts. It was loud and Sophie could hear herself think.

"Alright ENOUGH!" She shouted making everyone freeze. "I can call two people that can help us. One: a human doctor who thinks I jumped off a four story building and might possibly be extremely angry at me." Sophie said.

"Or?" Tam asked. Sophie bit her lip as her eyes went to Biana and for the first time, into Fitz's eyes. "Alvar." Sophie said.

"No." Biana said. "Let's take a vote." Keefe said. "Elwin needs help, so we either call this doctor who think Foster might be dead -I want more on that, later-" he said shooting a glance at Sophie. "Or Alvar who is out of the Neverseen. I vote Alvar." Keefe said. "Alvar is our safest option." Tam agreed. "But I want a shadow vapor read on him." He said. "Besides who knows if this human could even take care of an elf." Linh said. "Alvar." She nodded. That left Dex, Biana, Fitz and Sophie to vote. "I can't face my brother....not yet." Biana shook her head. "I don't want him here. At all." Fitz added, his voice deepening into a growl of anger. Sophie looked at Dex, who looked confused.

"I think it'd be safer...for all of us if Alvar came." Dex said slowly. "But I can't..." He shook his head and Sophie understood. Even though Alvar didn't remember anything that he did, he had still been their kidnappers. "Alright Dex, if you want, you can stay upstair with Biana and Fitz."

"So that's it? Your going to call him just like that? You think he'll come at your beckoning call?" Fitz asked. Sophie looked out the window. Would Alvar come? Sophie groaned as she remembered a certain dance and confession. Elwin needed her help, he had done enough for her to deserve as much help as she could offer. Even it did put her in an awkward position. Squaring her shoulders she faced Fitz. Tam was right, cut it off before it could start. "Alvar and I have....a truce.." What did She and Alvar have? Did she care about him? Yes, she did, but she wasn't sure how she cared about him.

"I hope you respect me enough, to keep that truce." Sophie said quietly as she pushed her hair behind her hair, she could see her reflection in the window, her earrings sparkled and shined. Alvar's earring caught the moonlight. "How's he even going to show u-" a burst of light showed up in the backyard and Alvar was there. In jeans, a long sleeve white button up shirt, with a black leather jacket in his hands. His hair messily styled he glanced around the dark yard confused, "I'm going." Biana said, Sophie heard Biana and Dex hurry upstairs, but Fitz stayed.

Opening the sliding glass door, Sophie watched as Alvar made his way over to the porch. "I thought you'd at least think about my-" Alvar stopped at Sophie's serious face. He ran up to her and grabbed her shoulders. "What's wrong? Are you hurt?" He asked, his eyes scanning her over as if to check for injuries. "It's not me." Sophie said stepping back, letting Alvar in. He froze at the sight at of everyone.

Then he spotted Elwin. "Oh no." He muttered as he tossed Sophie his leather jacket, as he rolled up his sleeves walking to Elwin. Tam stepped next to Sophie. "This has got to be awkward for you." He said, as Alvar checked Elwin's pulse. Sophie shot Tam a glare. "Sophie, how did this happen?" Alvar asked as he checked through the elixirs the girls had pulled out. Sophie kneeled on the other side of Elwin. "Well...." Sophie cleared her throat, blushing for no reason. "It's complicated?" She asked. Alvar turned his eyes to her. "Sophie..." He said warningly. "I s-scared him." Sophie lied shrugging her shoulders.

"Some scare." Alvar said. "Elwin has gone into shock." He said. "Will he be okay?" Sophie asked. Alvar nodded. "He should be. I'm not a physician, but it'll take a lot to bring him out of shock." Alvar said.  "What can I do?" Sophie asked. "Help me get him into a ro-" Alvar stared around at the empty house. He looked at Sophie, "I'm guessing you guys don't have beds yet." As if on que, Myth laid beside Elwin. "It'll work for now." Alvar shrugged as he placed Elwin's head on Myth's paw. He opened Elwin's mouth and tipped a small bit of a green elixir in. Elwin swallowed and groaned as he turned over. Elwin stopped the elixir and set it aside. "Give him only a little bit every hour." Alvar told Linh and Tam, as he stood up. "Sophie..." Alvar sighed and scratched the back of his head, embarrassedly. "We should probably talk." He said.

"Yeah..." Sophie said quietly as she stood up, accepting his hand up. "I'd like to be included in that 'talk' because Foster is completely co-" Sophie glared at Keefe, shutting him up. He smirked, "Now she's mad and I'm not getting my head knocked with Fitz's again." He said stepping back. Alvar grinned and looked down at Sophie. "You actually took my advice?" Sophie blushed. "Let's just go get a bed for Elwin." Sophie said. "I'm going with you." Fitz said. "If Fitz gets to go I do too." Keefe said. "Tam will come with Alvar and I." Sophie said. "I'd like my brother to stay here." Linh said making things more awkward. Tam smirked, "Just take them Sophie, you won't get any peace if you don't. I'll hold down the fort." Tam said.

Sophie glared at Tam. "Whatever!" She said. Focusing on Elwin, he needed help. "Let's go." She said giving Alvar his jacket back before picking up her own. Fitz and Keefe hurried upstairs for their shoes. "This is going to be awkward isn't it?" Alvar asked as he waited beside Sophie at the door. Sophie didn't respond. It was already awkward. Alvar touched her elbows making her look up at him, he smiled down at her, his eyes bluer then a stormy sky. "Don't worry Sophie. We'll talk later." He promised, being considerate of her awkward situation, which made Sophie feel a little bit better. She nodded, "Okay." She felt a massive amount of relief flood over her and Alvar's smile was almost painful, like he knew what her answer would be, before she even knew it.

The relief was short lived as Keefe and Fitz hurried downstairs. Sophie shoved her hands in her pockets at they all stepped outside. Sophie had shoved some money in her inside pocket, and shuffled down the sidewalk. She settled for sticking beside Alvar. It'd be to awkward for Fitz and him both of they walked side by side, and and Keefe... Either way this whole trip was already a disaster. Fitz and Keefe walked behind them. "Can I ask why you moved here in...New York?" Alvar asked looking around. "Oh y'know, Alaska was to cold, England seemed a little gloomy." Sophie said trying to lighten the mood as she looked up at Alvar. "Hey..." Alvar said before sighing. "Yeah it is to gloomy...and teaching...at a human school isn't for me." He said.

"So what are you going too try?" Sophie asked. "I'm going for artist." Alvar said. Sophie let out a laugh, "What kind of art?" She asked, as Alvar grinned "Sculpting." Sophie burst out laughing. "Visit Italy once and then you probably won't want to become an artist." Sophie said.

"Why?" Alvar asked. "Hu- people usually consider art a lot differently then, you do." Sophie said. "Alright miss, what do you think I should do?" Alvar asked walking sideways to stare at her. "Be a writer." Sophie said. "What would I even write about?" Alvar asked. "Everything." Sophie said. "Whatever you want. I thought about being a writer once." She said staring up at the dark sky. "You did?" Alvar asked. Sophie nodded, "Yeah, books were my escape. Books and music. But that didn't work out." She said. "What would you have written about?" Keefe asked, reminding her, she and Alvar weren't alone. Sophie glanced over her shoulder at him and Fitz. "A girl who could hear thoughts of others." She said.

"A writer..." Alvar said, before he seemed to shove those thoughts aside for later he looked back at Sophie. "What do you want to be now?" He asked.
What did she want to be? A fighter? She was already that. Normal? Thinking about it, Sophie realized she liked normal, it was calm but it was uneventful. She liked normal wild. Like Havenfield, it was eventful and kept Sophie on her toes, but that wasn't normal for the elves. Sophie sighed as she tilted her head back again, looking up at the burning stars. She stopped walking, "I want to be someone I can love." She said. She had insecurities, she knew that much. She was clumsy, her eyes were strange and different, all her life she had been different, but that was who she was.

She was different, she wanted to learn to love different. She wanted to accept different, she wanted to be someone that was memorable, like Gwendolyn Vacker, but everyone had called her different. Melody was memorable because she was different. Edaline was memorable because she was different, Jolie was memorable because she went against the rules, she was different, Juline was memorable because she was different. They were their own people, they were different. Sophie wanted to learn love her own differences. She wanted to be unique like Della, Edaline, Melody, Jolie, Juline, Gwendolyn, Linh and Biana. Sophie looked back at Alvar and smiled. "That's what I'm going to be." She said, as she started walking again.

"I don't see how you can't already be in love with yourself. I know I certainly am." Alvar smiled.

"WHAT?!" Right. Keefe and Fitz.

(Don't you guys love my endings?)
