Sir Reepicheep

The Professor, Trumpkin, Caspian and I ate lunch together. They asked me some questions about myself and I answered them with honesty. There was nothing to hide really. I was getting a fresh start and I was going to take that opportunity with grace. After some time, the other three talked about Beruna.

"Apparently, the river healed her hand." Trumpkin said.

"Did it, now?" The Professor asked me.

"It did." I told them what I told Trumpkin before. The Professor and Caspian looked at each other and had a mental conversation. "Did I say something wrong?"

"No." Caspian looked at me. Like, directly at me. He was trying to study me, or that was what I got to understand.

"Also, Thomas woke up." Trumpkin revealed after some time. "He seemed really in a mood to go for a ride around her." He pointed at me.

Another look between the Professor and Caspian. "What happened?" Caspian asked me.

"I was meaning to ask you about the horse actually." I said after telling them what happened.

"Oh, look at the time!" The Professor exclaimed suddenly. "Caspian, let's go. Sophie needs to get back to her lessons." He said and both of them excused themselves from the table.

"That was weird." Trumpkin pointed out.

Good that I wasn't the only one who felt that way. "It was."

I was better at archery. I got most of the bulls-eyes right. "Nice shot." Trumpkin told me after I got the third bulls-eye in a row.

"Thank you."

Trumpkin had set up target boards in the clearing near the stables. He taught me the correct position for drawing a bow. I was a quick learner but that may have had something to do with my interest in the lesson. Something about it fascinated my very much.

By the time evening came, he finished teaching me the parts of a bow and an arrow. He had drawn some sketches as well and gave me homework. "Theory is just as important as practicals." He told me. Before going back to the castle, I thanked Trumpkin. "You need to stop doing that." He said as he sharpened his sword.

"Okay. See you in the next lesson." I said before making my way back. Didn't feel like the need to give Trumpkin a reason to murder me. He was holding a sword.

The Professor and Caspian were a no show for dinner. I had it in the kitchen where everyone appreciated me for the breakfast after which we talked about our day. Rumira and Malcolm had joined us and I got to know a little about them as well. They were a few months older than me, but I would never know since Narnian time was different from the one that I knew.

The next few days were spent learning from the Professor and Trumpkin. Geography was a little confusing for me but I knew that I would learn it eventually. I drew the map of the Other World to the Professor. It was a mutual learning for the both of us but more for me. We found out that that lands were arranged more or less in the same way but the outlook was different. I thought about Pangea and wondered if that was connected to this.

A few days later, I started to explore the castle. I took Nina's advice on taking notes about the directions and eventually, I found myself at a door that lead to a tower. It looked like nobody accessed it and so, I decided to come there at night. It was only a few flights of stairs away from my chambers.

My lessons weren't until later that day because of which I lurked inside the throne room. It was empty and didn't look scary like it had before. The tapestry that I saw on my first day caught my eye again. I walked towards it and saw it clearly.

There were four people in it - two boys and two girls - standing beside four thrones. The thrones looked identical except for some markings on the headstones. They were wearing crowns and in front of them was a lion.

"Aslan." I whispered as my hand moved forward to touch the cloth.

"I wouldn't do that."

I was startled. The voice came out of nowhere. There was no warning of someone entering the room but when I looked down, everything became clear. "Sir Reepicheep!"

"Just Reepicheep would do Sophie Adams."

"Sorry. I've got used to calling you that."

"Yes, the King mentioned something like that." He started climbing up a few stones protruding from the wall so that we were eye-to-eye.

"Who are they?" I asked him, beckoning to the tapestry.

"Those are the Kings and Queens of the Old." He answered. "They're wonderful people."

"The King's family hasn't ruled Narnia forever?"

"The King is a Telmarine. The Kings and Queens of the Old left Narnia." I frowned. "I think you should ask the Professor. He can explain it better than I can."

"He hasn't come to it yet in History." So who were the actual rulers then?

"Oh, that reminds me. Welcome to Narnia, Sophie Adams."

"Thank you." I bowed to him.

"Trumpkin told me that you woke Thomas up."

"That seems to be the talk of town."

Rumira told me that the news spread like wildfire. Mr. Henry even asked me what I did to improve Thomas' condition, who only ate when I was around and I didn't mind going down to spend time with the horses.

"There is actually a conspiracy about Thomas." Reepicheep whispered. "But I can't tell you that."

"Why not?" I asked but I knew the answer. "I'd rather hear it from the Professor?"

He nodded in agreement. "I have to leave now. It was nice to talk to you."

Before I did the same thing, I looked at the tapestry one more time at the Kings and Queens of the Old. I looked around the room as well. Nobody was there and it seemed strange to have such a lively room without its usual noise.

I met the Professor at his study. "Good morning, dear." He wished me.

"Good morning, Professor. I know that I'm a lot early."

"Well, I'm guessing that you're here because of something important then." He guessed and closed the book that he was reading. He adjusted his glasses and turned to face me.

"Who are the Kings and Queens of the Old?"

"Where did you hear about them, dear?" He removed his glasses.

"Just someone." I said. "I heard that they left Narnia. Why?"

The Professor pushed his chair back and stood up. He pulled some books off of the shelves and laid them open in front of me after ruffling through the pages. "I was going to start this today anyway but it looks like it would be better if I did it now."

"Thank you, Professor. Apologies for coming early."

"My dear, never apologise for being curious."

He opened the book to a page with a poem written on it and I read it out aloud.

"When Adam's flesh and Adam's bone
Sits at Cair Paravel in throne
The evil time be over and done."

"This is a Prophecy!"

"Quite right." He started taking some things from his cupboard while I looked through the book.

"This looks like a children's book."

"That's because it is, my dear." I looked up at him and saw him hold a horn in his hand. "Let's take you on a journey to the Golden Age of Narnia." He said as he handed me the horn with a lion's face on one end.
