Sick

"Cas?" I called out as I entered the room. A small whimper came from the bed. He looked half dazed. "How are you?" I asked as I set down the tray. I checked his temperature. "Ah, that's better."

"You shouldn't be here." He whispered.

"Ssh, stop fussing. And anyway, I can't hear you." I mocked because his voice was feeble and he smiled weakly. "I've brought you dinner."

I sat down next to him after pulling up a chair from his study table. He tried to get up and I helped him. I kept a pillow to support his back and neck. "Thank you." He whimpered.

"Now, stay quiet and eat."

I demanded as I handed him the soup. I asked him whether he needed my help but he refused.

"That's good." He said as he drank it.

"Hot enough?"

"It's perfect."

"Your voice is getting better." He nodded. "You need it to keep your end of the deal." I reminded him. "Evelyn told me that she has prepared an herb medicine for you and that she would bring it up once you finished eating your dinner."

"Have you eaten?"

"I had dinner, thank you." I said and looked around. "Why do you have a bird in your room?" I asked and pointed to her.

"In case I need to send messages."

"Right." I nodded. "I'm so sorry, Caspian. You're sick because of me. With everything that you have to go through, I can't believe that I added this burden on you."

"It was my idea, not yours-"

"Ssh, just drink."

"Thank you." He said after he finished.

I took the bowl from him and set it on the ground. I looked around properly. "You have a nice room. Very great architecture."

He chuckled. "Thank you."

There was a knock at the door and I got up to open it. Nina entered with the medicine in a bowl. She held it with two towels and I knew that it was really hot. I set up a chair for her to set the bowl on.

"Now, you have to drink this." She told Caspian and handed him another bowl. She started to pour the concoction into the bowl he held for easier consumption.

"Why is everyone making this a big issue?" He asked and I saw a change in Nina's face. Bad move, Caspian.

"You listen to me, Your Majesty." She pointed her finger at him, her other hand on her hip. "You may think that this is not a big deal but it is. You need to take care of yourself but unfortunately, everyone else is doing it for you."

Her voice started to crack. "Nina." I touched her arm.

"I'm fine." She straightened herself. Nina told me one day that she thought of Caspian as her son. She was his guardian in a way and I could see why that was so. She really loved him.

I looked at Caspian and eyed towards Nina, indicating that he say something. "I'm so sorry, Nina." He said. "I'll take care of myself from now on. I won't give you another reason to worry."

That night, I went to the tower by myself. I tried working on the painting but I realised that I had already finished it. The little details that I wanted to do would have only ruined it. I didn't have any assignments to write or books to read, and the tower was my best option.

I looked down at the fountain and started to wonder why water was healing me. I wasn't anything special. Why would that be happening to me? And the biggest question was, how did I come to Narnia in the first place?

I heard something clatter and when I turned around, I saw that the door was open. I had closed it when I came in. A brunette tousled head stumbled inside, making my eyes open wide. "What are you doing here?"

"Company." Caspian said. It looked like he was half asleep. The concoction was doing its work well because the colour was returning to his face.

"You shouldn't be here! What made you think that you needed to come here? You need to rest!" I caught his arm and pulled him inside the castle away from the cold air.

"But-"

"Not 'buts'."

I snapped as I took the lamp and closed the door. I slammed it shut for it to close properly and then turned around. I hit Caspian's chest and looked up at him in the small light that the lamp gave.

"I'm sorry." He moved away to give me way.

"You need to sleep." I informed after shaking off the feeling that I suddenly felt and dragged Caspian to his room.

He was silent the entire way. Once we reached, he entered and lay down on his bed obediently. I put the bedspread over him. "It's nice that your voice is the first thing that I heard today." He mumbled, his eyes closed in the tiredness.

My hands stopped working and I looked at him, glad that he couldn't see the baffled expression on my face. "You're under the dosage of medicine. You don't know what you are talking about."

I started to walk away but his hand grabbed my wrist. I turned around and saw that he was not really asleep. "Don't leave. Please."

I didn't know what to do but looking at Caspian, I decided to stay. "All right."

I took a chair and put it on one side of the room. I looked around once again. I didn't snoop, of course. I just went through the books that were on his study table. I had read some of them as the Professor had given them to me.

I got bored easily because I was trying to be as quiet as possible but that didn't seem to be possible. I sat back down on the chair and slept off without realising.

In the morning, I woke up before Caspian did and even before the sun rose up. My neck became stiff but I was always used to it. My neck never cooperated to me.

I stretched my arms while walking to the other side of the room and opened the balcony doors. Yeah, Caspian had his own balcony in his room.

I walked out and saw the sunrise. It was beautiful! Words could not explain the beauty of the sunrise in Narnia. The sun slowly threw its rays over the town and the castle and all over Narnia.

"Good morning." I heard Caspian's voice. He had woken up and was coming towards the balcony.

"Morning." I wished. "How are you feeling?"

"Much better, thank you." He folded his hands across his chest as he leaned against the wall.

"I can't believe you made Nina cry."

"I'm feeling so guilty about it." He said as I started walking inside the room. "Thank you for staying."

"Of course." I said, turning around. "And once again, I'm sorry for you falling sick." I apologised and before he could argue, I asked, "How did you know that it would rain?"

"I had help." He said as he started making his bed. It seemed that even he did not like when someone did his work for him.

"May I ask whose?"

"I asked the centaurs whether it would rain anytime soon."

"Centaurs?" I was sure that the glow on my face was not due to the sunrise.

"They stay in the forests. I went there for helping them and thought that I should help you."

"You didn't have to."

"But I wanted to."

I smiled at him. "Thank you." I said. "But you need to rest now because the ball is in a few days."

"Would you like to join me later tomorrow? I'm going to the forest to return a few things."

I thought about it before answering. The Professor was out of town and my lessons with Trumpkin weren't for another few days. "Sure. I would love to." I said. "But only if Nina says if it is okay."

"Indeed yes." He nodded.
