Chapter Ten

Chapter Ten

Minutes ticked by as I sat next to his bed, watching him, talking to him, brushing his hair from his face, holding his hand and fixing the covers around him.   Anything really to just keep my mind off the what ifs, the uncertainty and the harsh reminders of the truth swirling around us.

"I know we don't know each other, but I feel like we do", I murmured to him.

"I hope you can hear me and I am going to continue talking to you as if you could, maybe then it won't be like we don't know each other".

I tucked his covers in more even though I was just rearranging them trying to stay busy so I would not think about what was to come.   Frowning to myself I sighed loudly as I walked to the window and pulled back the curtains a little to see that it was beginning to get dark outside.   I had not realized that Ethan had been sleeping for half a day which concerned me, he should have been awake by now, at least that is what we had thought.   A new worry washed over me and settled deep in the pits of my stomach, causing me to shiver.   I could not shake the feeling of doom which I guess was normal given the situation.   I wanted to believe that it was going to turn out okay but deep inside I just was not sure.  The opening of the door startled me out of my deep thought but I was not expecting the person who walked through it.

"It's normal you know, to worry but worrying will get us an ulcer" Ian said as he looked over at Ethan laying on the bed.

"You could not have waited until we got here so his family could help him through this?"

"Oh, now you want his family to surround him?" I ground out, anger boiling up. "Are his parents here"

"They are, but they do not know that he is unconscious" he said with a distinct sadness in his voice that I almost caught me off guard.

Only a fool would allow themselves to become vulnerable to someone like Ian so I had to be on guard at all times around him.   Glancing back at him I was met with a pair of icy blue eyes that showed no sign of deception or weakness.  But if I knew anything at all I knew that he was known for being polished and powerful in any situation.  An appearance of a stone-cold statue emotion wise emitted from him making me want to shrink back into myself.  Taking a deep breath, I made a decision that he would not get the opportunity to take my power or Ethan's and I blocked all of my emotions and dug deep to settle my nerves.

Summoning my ability to read minds I began to ease into his to find out what I could before he realized I was there.   All vampires had special powers that were unique to them, one of mine was the ability to read minds.  I continued to stare at him, narrowing my eyes at him giving off the façade that I was just giving him a once over of disgust.   He had not felt me in his mind nor figured out that I was going through his mind like an open file cabinet.  The one thing that I found pissed me off to the point that the look I was giving him was genuine.

"I see you still are the liar we all have come to know and love" I said dryly.  "I guess telling them was not on your things to do list?"

I saw his facial expression full of surprise and shock causing him to stutter out loud.  Gone was the smug look only an asshole like him could pull off.  Not even trying to regain his composure I watched as his face turn six shades of red until a hint of red tinted even into his eyes.  Narrowing my eyes even further at him I sent a telepathic warning to him to control himself.

"How dare you" he sputtered finally realizing that I had invaded his mind.

"How dare me you ask, I could ask the same to you, don't try to turn it around on me and make me the villain here."  I hissed at him.

"Do you realized what you have done?   You might just have brought the entire family down by your actions" he whisper yelled at me.

I closed the gap between us and easing myself just in front of his face I smiled a cold canine exposing smile  "No Ian you have already done that, I am simply fixing your mess".

He was breathing hard and was probably on the verge of losing the last bit of control he had and I was going to be in the direct route for his anger.  Thinking fast I gently shoved him causing him to fall back into chair next to Ethan's bed.  Glancing down at him I threw my hands up in the air signaling that I meant no harm, even though internally I wanted to shove his counterfeit ass straight threw the wall, but again I did not want any of this to disturb Ethan.   I watched him threw narrowed eyes as he started to control his breathing and his color returned to normal.

"Now be a good boy and listen up.  You are going to figure out how to make all of this right and control the shit storm that you created!!  Do.You.Understand." I drawled inches from his face making sure that I drove it home to him.

I would be lying if I said I did not enjoy watching him blanch from each of my words.  Smiling more to myself than to him I slowly backed up taking my place back at the window.

"You don't want to cross me little girl, I can control him once he awakes with a swipe of my little finger".

Turning toward him, I nodded to him "You could if my connection was never introduced, but now he knows who I am to him and that is way more powerful that you will ever be to him.   You will be lucky if he even wants anything to do with you once he learns the truth" I whispered to him.

"I guess we will see when he wakes up" Ian smirked.

I had to get him out of here, not only was he irritating I did not want Ethan waking up under his crooked influence.

"You need to leave" I told him coldly.

I watched Ian sit back comfortably in the chair and stare back at me with a challenge "I am not going anywhere".

"You know Ian, he is going to wake up a very hungry vampire and if you continue to sit there I may just let him make you his first meal" I said innocently as I watched my words register on his face.

I watched as his color drained from his face and realizing that I was right he jumped up nervously and left the room in a rush. Laughing lightly to myself I made my way over and shut the door so there would be no more interruptions which could cause problems with Ethan's progress.  With my back to Ethan I leaned on the door resting my forehead on the cool wooden surface, I closed my eyes for a moment and took in a deep breath hoping to calm myself.   My emotions just swirled through my mind making me realize that this entire ordeal was starting to wear on me.   The arrival of the devil himself was going to cause more problems not to mention the fallout from his family when they learned not only of the betrayal but their beloved son was restored back to his true self.  Pulling myself together I began to push off the door and head back to sit by Ethan's bed when I felt something push up against me as a whisper of my name brushed up against my ear.

A/N:  So do you think Emory should let Ethan feed off Ian for paybacks?? lol

Anyone think that Ian is redeemable?  Do you want him to be?  Do you think that Ethan has woke up and if he has do you think that he heard everything that went on between Emory and Ian?  How do you think Ethan's family is going to react to all of the events that have transpired.

This is going to be Emory's last chapter solely for a while.  I will switch back to Ethan's for the next chapter and then there will be a couple of chapters with both of their POV's.

Let me know if you still like the shorter chapters and if you like the story send me some feedback.
