Spadia was suffering with no queen to temper the King's rage. The queen was out there and in serious danger. King Arthur Kirkland of Spadia had cast a spell years ago to allow any pain the queen felt would be a phantom pain for him. He could feel the broken bones and the starvation of his queen. His soulmate was abused for years. He had a suspicion that the queen was a male. It was the only reason why the queen would be hidden for so long. He prayed to Saint Matthew Rosia of Arcadia for intervention or even to soothe his queen. He prayed for hours each day.

The day he felt the pain start to ease, he almost wept in relief. He sent out knights to find the missing royal. They had searched most of the country but there were five more major cities and a bunch of farms. Yao, the Jack, was kneeling next to him when the statue glowed for a moment. A single note appeared.

So began the true hunt for the Queen of Spadia. Yao searched through ancient texts for the most rare flower in Spadia as the orders of knights that were under the King's command started to pull everyone from there homes and did searches of every single house. Arthur went to the more rural areas and helped to search for the mark of the Queen. Surprisingly, the citizens were more than happy to comply without any degrees or threats made. It was a shock when several family members of the Duchess of Arcadia, Her Grace Esmeralda Williams-Jones, were non-compliant. King Kirkland noticed that they all had a very distinct crest, a rose unlike anything he had ever seen. It was the mark of the House of Paladins, Williams and the coloring of the oldest bloodline in all of Spadia, Jones of the Sacred Rose. The way the family had refused, fear in their eyes, as if Her Grace would severely punish them, was the proof the King and his knights needed. The knights and the King showed up, the Paladins siding with the King. A Paladin, introduced as Commander Matthew Williams-Jones, ordered the massive doors of the estate to open and to help King Arthur in finding the Queen. It was clear that they knew who the Queen was but the magic coating them didn't allow them to show or tell who it was.

A young girl of the Sacred Rose presented a single rose to him when he came to personally check for the mark in the temple and House. The Duchess stood behind the maid and spoke as the maid kneeled.
"Your Majesty, I present the symbol of this humble House in welcoming such an esteemed gentleman." The Duchess motioned for the maid to leave after the Jack took the flower for the King. "Now that everything has been upheld and hospitality is over, why the fuck are you here? You are not permitted to enter the grounds." 

Arthur wanted to kill this woman. He could feel the pulse of the magic he had cast was definitely in this estate. He beckoned a Paladin who proceeded to set up a chair and a tea pot. He saw how annoyed the Duchess was that the paladins were obeying him over her.

"Under normal circumstances, that is correct. However, I did not force my way in. I was invited inside by the paladins to find my Queen, regardless of gender and age as is my right as King. If I find even a single fake mark, you will be fined. If a single person is not presented, you will be removed as Duchess and your oldest son will take your place and title. If I find that the Queen is harmed by you, you will be executed and your body paraded throughout the Kingdom and will not be buried. Now, you will sit down and watch as I check every single person in this estate until I find MY QUEEN." Arthur's voice held a touch of magic that forced her to sit, even as it was dripping in viscous poison. He motioned for the knights and paladins to start bringing in each person of the Houses and Temple. It would take a long time to check everyone but they had to do so. The Duchess knew they were coming and Yao was going to make sure no fakes appeared.

Due to the injuries they knew the Queen had sustained, they would start with the lowest ranking after the paladins had been checked. It took all of ten minutes to prove that none of them had the mark. Matthew, the Paladin that allowed them inside had a holy mark that made him the default commander. He was a true Holy Paladin with a blessed sword. It was strange how closely he resembled the Statue of Matthew Rosa of Spadia. Arthur would have to think about what it meant as the checks on the rest of the House started. He noticed that the Duchess had almost fainted when checking him for the mark. It seemed as if the Queen was related to her. He summoned the book of Spadia to him, starting to read out each name written in the book. It was a marvelous thing, containing all of the names of the people living in Spadia. It was the only fool-proof way to make sure everyone would be checked.

Each and every slave and servant were cleared by the next morning. Arthur just kept his eye on the Duchess, noticing that she would pale when only certain people were being checked. He had asked Yao to send an assassin to follow each of the people that produced that reaction. The ones being followed avoided three places of the Estate like the plague.
