Chapter 5:Day one pt 2
(A/N) so I find that I really like the first person view so I'm gonna use it more often. Also I'm sorry for not posting. I'm gonna be real with you, I keep forgetting. And when I do remember I always make this argument with my self 'But..... Youtube..' So ya, sorry. Also the pic up there ^ is Emma and Ethan. My friend drew this for me so you can get a decent idea what the characters look like. Anyways, to the story!
(Emma POV)
When we went out in the hallway, we saw the three guards from earlier and they lead us to a arena-gym looking place.
Ethan and I were looking around, gazing at it in awe.
Everything about this place seems to amaze me. From how the ice accents in the castle don't melt, to the magical creatures that should only exist in fairy tales. And the design of it all is so beautiful, to the point where I think that this is just one of my crazy dreams.
But there is some things that I find not scientifically possible, like the ice accents not melting, no one ever getting cold, and no one ever slips on the ice. I don't understand exactly how this happens, but magic I guess?
I'm completely snaped back into reality when the guard Madison started talking.
"Welcome to your first training session. This week we're gonna go easy on you, but as the weeks progress it'll get harder and harder. You need to be prepared for the journey. This week we're going to learn hand to hand combat." She said.
I was really nervous at this point. I was so nervous that I was literally shaking with fear. I've never fought anyone before, more or less punched anyone.
One of the boy guards stepped up. He looked like he had shaggy blond hair with hazel eyes.
"Hey, you, Ethan, are you ready to be scared out of your mind?" He said with a smirk on his face.
I saw Ethan send a look of surprise towards the young guard. He opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by the female guard. What was her name again? I think it was Madison, yeah Madison that's it.
"Oh don't mind Landon he has mental issues. " She said, motioning a crazy symbol beside her head.
"Hey I do not!" He replied back, obviously offended.
"Then why do you act like you have a mental illness?"
"Because I like creeping people out! You know this." He loudly whispered.
"Alright, alright! That's enough bickering for today alright?" Zane said, pausing before continuing. "Alright"
So they started telling us about themselves so that way they wouldn't feel like too much of strangers. Zane even said "you wouldn't want to put you trust and training in strangers hands." His words not mine.
After a while we finally started training after a long tutorial on how to do certain things. Like how to form a fist properly, and how to hit weakend parts of the body to catch you oppents off guard.
"So you put your hand on my forearm and turn the other direction and throw me over, easy." Madison was trying to teach me how to throw someone over your shoulder. I was always one of the athletic ones in the group, but throwing a full sized person over my shoulder? I don't think so.
" I'm not sure I can do this." I said with my voice having the slightest hint of fear.
"And I'm sure you can. You never know until you do it." She said with an encouraging voice.
I look over at Ethan and see that him and Landon were doing something similar to us. He looked so happy and confident in himself. Like he wanted to do this since the day he was born. I wanted to be like that too but I just couldn't. So I had to do it, these people are counting on us and if I fall short we both do, and I can't let that happen.
"Ok fine" I said taking a deep breath.
And I went for it.
I grabbed Madison's forearm and took it in my hands turned, and with all of the strength in my body, flipped he over my shoulder. She hit the floor with a bang.
Then I started to hear claps to my left. I turned around to see Ethan clapping hysterically, cheering for me.
I play along and pretend I have a dress on and curtsy and mouthed a 'thank you'
This kept continuing until out of nowhere Landon tackles Ethan to the ground, and I laugh.
"Rule number one, never lose sight of your enemy." I heard Landon say.
In the distance I heard a slight chuckle from Zane
Just as Madison was getting up she fell back down. I went down as well. In fact everybody in the room fell down, even Zane.
That's when I noticed that the ground was shaking rapidly and didn't fell like it was going to stop any time soon.
Was it an earthquake? No it didn't feel as violent as an earthquake. Then what exactly was it?
After a few minutes of rattling it finally stopped. It took him awhile but Zane looked like he was trying to figure it out until he hit a face of horror.
"The 6th month mark." He said with a blank face.
"What already! No way, i-it can't just be that low of a time crunch already, its-its just not possible." Landon spitted out.
"It can't be..." Madison just whispered
"We need to take them in a month earlier then we planned." It was obvious that Zane was talking to Madison and Landon but I was a little bit worried, so much for that confidence boost earlier.
"Umm.. What are you talking about?" I spoke up.
"Yeah, what just happened?" Ethan said, just as confused as I was.
"Nothing it's just- well it's- it's just better if the King and Queen tell you about it. They know way more that I do. But let's let's just say we're running out of time, quickly." The way Zane said "quickly" gave me shivers down my spine.
I was so speechless. We just got here and we're already running out of time? If I didn't have anxiety earier, I definitely have it now.
The images of my dream, once again, came flooding into my mind. The images of blood seeping through his tan fingers. The images of him crying and calling out my name as if he was asking for help.
I couldn't breathe anymore. Some people might think I'm being over dramatic, but it's true. I had to take a breather.
So I did it. I snapped my fingers. I needed a break.
I look over to my right and I sit there while I watched as Ethan unfroze once again.
He looked over at me as he realized what I did.
"Emma, what's wrong?" He said, his soft voice becoming more clearer as he got closer.
"I'm sorry, it's a reflex." I said looking down.
"Hey, Emma look at me." He paused until I looked up at him. "You have nothing to be sorry about, if your stressed about this time crunch, your not alone. I'm just as stressed as you are. But you've just got to believe that we'll get through this together. If you just keep a positive mind about it, and eventually you'll end up in your own bed again. But until then you'll just be stuck with me, whether you like it or not."
I gave a slight chuckle, the last part was a little bit over used, but it was funny nonetheless.
"Ok, weirdo. " I reply back, cracking a little smile, while giving him a small push to the shoulder.
He cracked a smile and asked "you feel better?"
I nodded my head, and took a deep breath, and snapped my fingers once again to make everything go back to normal.
"We will need to bring....you...two...-what happened?" Madison said as she realized Ethan was right next to me rather then across me where he was a second ago. Well you know, to her it was a second.
"Sorry that was me, I freaked out a little." I said, raising my hand.
I was giving her time to process what I had just said until Ethan spoke out.
"What did I just say?" He said, obviously talking to me.
"Sorry! -I mean.... not.. sorr- this is giving me a headache." I said chuckling. Even Ethan laughed a little.
"It's fine" He said. He was starting to gesture to Madison. "What were you saying earier?"
She looked so dazed, like she's never seen a teen with a superpower before.
She stared inbetween the two of us and then finally started to answer. "Oh! Yeah right! That! Umm.. We need to take you two to the King and Queen so they can explain what's going on here."
They lead us to the throne room, where the King and Queen sat at.
"Ah... I guessing that you are here to question the earthquake." He spoke as if the time crunch was just another thing swept under the carpet, forgotten.
"Um.. Yes -what was that exactly?" Ethan asked. I looked over at him to find he was looking at me too. He quickly looked back at the king. At that moment I felt jittery, like butterflys in my stomach, like a little shiver starting at my head to the tips of my toes.
Whoa. That was weird. I thought, and believe me it was. I've only ever felt that way when two characters in a book that I like get together.
Back at home, I own a lot of books. I always re-read them. Most of the books I own I've read at least three times. And I always listen to music while I read and the music I use always match the mood that particular chapter. People don't usually understand how I can focus on reading while having music blasting in my ears. I usually respond like, "I don't focus on the music just the tone of the music." or something like that.
Speaking of home, last time I was there I snapped but it's been way past five hours. I wonder I people are worried about us. I bet my family would be so worried that they have the whole neighborhood do a search party. But what about my friends, I wonder what they think. I bet you that Rose just thinks we snuck off together into the sunset, where Ethan is gonna turn me into a vampire. Oh rose, always wanting to live that twilight fantasy.
I wonder what Mackenzie thinks.
"It was the count down." The kings words snapped me out of my trance.
He continued "Once a kingdoms gem is stolen, every now and then there will this type of earthquake once one month has gone by. The gem was stolen long before you got here so we're really trying to rush every thing before our kingdom crashes to rubble." He had a blank look on his face. It made him look like he was believing in us, but at the same time doubting that we'll make it.
"Well we'll get the job done don't worry, sir." Ethan said while bowing.
"Well, we have a change of plans, instead of you two going alone, you will be accompanied by Zane, Madison, Landon, a ice pixie Ally, and two earth elves, Jazaline, and Melissa. They have experts in tricking, outsmarting, and of course combat. They will help you two through the forest. But, you two will be the only ones that can enter the fire kingdom."
"Wait, if you don't mind me asking, why are we the only ones that can enter the kingdom?" I asked. I didn't quite understand why someone couldn't go with us.
"Because ever since the Fire kingdom stole our gem, they put a spell on on their kingdom so that there would be no possible way for the Earth, Water, or Ice kingdoms to get to our gem. But you two are from a whole different dimension, the spell doesn't effect you." The king said. It made since.
"Ohh.. So that way we get your gem so the kingdom won't come crashing down to pieces! Man this feels like a video game!" Ethan said with the enthusiasm growing in his voice. Then I hear a voice from behind me
"A video-what now?" I heard Landon say. I started to giggle at this dimensions lack of video game knowledge.
For the rest of the day, I was thinking of how I could do this. I had to keep my head in the game I was going do this. I have to keep focus I told myself.
We did train a little bit more and it was helpful. Hopefully by the end of this training I will be better at defending myself.
Once dinner was done I headed toward my temporary room. I put on a night gown from the closet. As I was about to go to bed, I heard a little knock at my door.
I turned to my door to see, you guessed it, Ethan. I take a closer look at him and see that he was in his pj's too. They were a silky periwinkle blue, and it wasn't a very flattering color on him either.
"Hey." He said.
"Hi." I said back.
It is getting awkward
"So today was something wasn't it." He said, breaking the tension.
"What? Are you scared?" Deciding to make this funny.
"Yep! Terrified." He said while chuckling.
His expression was so funny, I started laughing hysterically! Once I calmed down, I decided on a new topic.
"I'm actually glad now that we don't have to go alone, I mean we now have guards to do some of the professional work." I said with a smile on my face.
"And don't for get that know-it-all Ally is coming too."
"Oh yeah, how could I forget?" We laughed our lungs out!
Once we settled down from the fit of laughing, I saw him look at the clock then back at me.
"We should probably go to bed." He said as he got of my bed and headed to the door.
"Good night." I said
"Good night Emma."
As he left he turned of my light. I turned myself the other way on my bed and just hoped that I would have a good nights sleep. But boy, was I wrong!
