The Way Home
"At least we can go home now, okay? So before telling everyone my powers were acting up, can I tell Sindri and Brok I don't trust Týr? I feel like he wanted this to happen, yes, he was mad about Garm, but I don't think he thinks we made it out alive, or at least, I did anyway. He seems to want me dead, especially since he keeps looking at me like a disease-ridden creature. Plus, he keeps calling Atreus Loki, which is also a huge red flag in my book. That isn't your name," Hilda informed.
"Hilda, I don't think you like him because you don't like people in general," Atreus smiled.
"How very dare you? No, I'm just saying. Plus, I mean, his prison seemed very easy to get into. If I were Odin, I would put him where no one would look like in the tree that holds all the nine realms. I wouldn't just tie a rope to his neck, put him in a mine, or have barely anyone guarding him," Hilda informed.
"Do you think anyone would dare cross Odin?" Atreus asked.
"No... but I sure would creep a hundred million percent," she informed.
"Why do you think I didn't leave you anywhere by yourself? The last thing I wanted was for him to see you naked while taking a bath or Heimdall. I still can't believe you insulted him like that," he chuckled.
"My inner Brok came out of me. I can't believe he didn't see it coming; it makes me wonder," Hilda informed.
"Heimdall did not for see you insulting him?" Kratos asked.
"No, he was very shocked. But I have heard a lot of voices. I don't know what that means, but I can tell you they are very pissed, like murder pissed," Hilda informed.
"I felt it when you took my scars. Also, I heard a high-pitched scream. Everyone heard it," Kratos informed.
"Great, that is the best news I got all day. I have to figure out what the voices want. I hope it's not just my memories of trying to kill people. I mean, think about your lifetime and every memory, good or bad, coming out and trying to rip your throat out," she said.
"I don't like to think about that. Also, father, um, when we were with Heimdall. Her powers went crazy. They attacked him, and when the lines broke. She was close to bleeding out. I tried to help her, but a hand grabbed me. It didn't hold on to me for long because Hilda was protecting me or at least trying to," Atreus informed.
"A hand grabbed you?" Kratos asked.
"Yeah, it came from the pool of blood that was forming. It wasn't a little pool either; since I was kneeling, it could fit in it. Whatever Hilda is trying to hold back wants out, and I think her hair turning back to normal is temporary. We need to find a way to fix it; otherwise, it could escape and kill Hilda in the process," Atreus said.
"Always a worried wart. Look, I have made it this far with you. I think I can handle some dark son of a bitch that wants everything dead," she informed.
"We will look for a way. We can go to Alfheim; they have a library with books on magic. Maybe they will have answers there," Kratos informed.
"They have a library? How do you know that?" She asked.
"Freya's brother has a light elf and a dark elf companion. They heard stories of a library, but they were not certain it is real. I talked to them briefly when you were at home." Kratos answered.
"Cool, well, hopefully, we get answers. Hey, we can free that second giant thing too. Hafgufa, I think it is what they are called," Hilda informed them.
"We can do that, but first, we must grab Mimir," Kratos informed.
"I kind of miss his comments, but he was a jerk. Instead of you know, we are all in this together he was fuck this shit, I'm out. I don't appreciate it; at least he is only a head, which saves him from getting kicked in the balls," she said.
"Why do you like hurting guys in that way? Just thinking about it hurts," Atreus informed.
"I know, plus how many times have I done that to you? Just imagine me doing it, but several times harder; you are lucky that I love you," Hilda smiled.
"You know, if you had told me we would end up together when we first met, I would say that it was inane," Atreus smiled.
"Same! Okay, just don't tell Týr, please, about my powers," Hilda informed as they stopped by the door.
"I will not say a word," Kratos informed.
"Okay, thank you," she said as they entered the house.
"You're back; how did it go?" Týr asked.
"The beast will no longer cause issues," Kratos informed.
"Well, that is a bloody relief. So you put down old Garm, did you?" Mimir informed.
"Hey, Sindri, may I talk to you briefly?" Hilda asked.
"Yes, but after this, please," Sindri said.
"Atreus, your decision to go to Asgard after everything he put us through, I will never understand it. But I hope you return with something we can use," Freya informed.
"I hope so too; let me show you what Odin is up to," Atreus said as he released his journal.
"Hilda, how are you feeling? We know what happened either the Einherjar," Freya explained.
"Good, I'm glad you found my markers. I was worried you wouldn't. I was more worried about Atreus than myself, which helped out a lot," she explained.
"Thank you for giving him a reason to come back. I didn't want him to end up like the rest of us," she said.
"I didn't make him come back; well, I did a little. I'm going to go upstairs since I know all of this stuff. I got to get more supplies. Maybe a bath, Atreus can fill me in," Hilda informed as she headed to her room.
Hilda opened up a chest filled with weapons and extra supplies that she ran out of space for. She always had too many supplies, but for once, she was running low. She started to hear the whispering again, making her pause as two notebooks launched themselves off her table and hit the wall hard.
"You better stop it," Hilda said as she picked up her notebooks.
"Die," a voice said clear as day, making her look around the room.
"You go die; you think I'm afraid of you? If anything, you should be afraid of me," she said as a knife flew off her desk, and she dodged it as it went into the wall.
"Well played," she said as she removed the knife from the wall.
"Hey, Hilda, is everything okay? I heard you talking to yourself," Atreus said.
"Yeah, I'm fine; one of the voices told me to die and tried to kill me," she said.
"You will tell my father about that, right? Maybe tell Sindri to," Atreus suggested.
"I will, so what's the verdict?" She added
"We aren't going after Heimdall, Freya returned to her brother. I am going to try to make a plan, but I have a feeling I will get distracted," he said as he kissed her.
"Well, maybe you should concentrate," she said as he smiled.
"I will make one up as I go along," he smiled as they kissed.
Kratos waited for Atreus to return, only to find he was up there much longer than he liked. He knew Atreus was growing into a man, but there was a time and place for that. He went upstairs to find his son pinned against the wall with his legs wrapped around Hilda's waist. They didn't even hear Kratos come into the room as they were kissing. Kratos cleared his throat, making Atreus look at him, shocked.
"Sorry, I meant I was going to think of a plan later after this," he said as Hilda put him down.
"There is a time and place for that," Kratos said as Atreus smiled and looked at Hilda.
"Yeah, so where do you want to go?" Atreus asked.
"We can go to Alfheim, free that creature, and look for that hidden library," Kratos said.
"I'm sorry about that, Hilda; you wanted to talk to me?" Sindri asked.
"Oh yeah, I did; I'll be downstairs soon," she said as Brok showed up.
"I'll update your armor once we're done here," Brok said as he closed the door.
"I'll pack some food just in case Hilda needs food," Atreus said with a smile.
He started packing up some food for Hilda and ate some yo so he wouldn't be so hungry later. Atreus paused as he felt something watching him. He turned around slowly, and there was no one there. He returned to getting food only to feel something cold touch his neck. He spun around, but there was still nothing there. He hoped that whatever she was keeping at bay was still gone. He saw his arm start glowing. He saw it begin cracking and noticed it was shaped like a hand. It quickly disappeared, and he looked around again before looking at his arm again. He saw marking replacing the broke ones and looked upstairs at Hilda's room.
"I'm not letting you kill her; you aren't getting past me, that's for sure," he said as he finished packing up for the trip.
