The War Within ( Ch37)

Hilda got struck, which sent her flying into a tree. The tree gave way and snapped due to the sheer impact of her hitting it. The Einherjar burned her book and laughed as she got up and quickly used her last arrows to kill three of them. But there was still more coming for her, for Atreus. She needed to find him and not get taken by these guys. This whole thing was a trap, and now Atreus could be lying in the snow dead, and it was because she thought it would be okay if they separated. Odin planned to separate them and kill her when the time came. Hilda was okay with dying, but she wasn't okay with Atreus never knowing what happened to her and who had killed her.

She was supposed to protect him; it was her job, after all. Three of the Einherjar came at her at once, and she quickly started killing them with her sword. She had to block magic attacks, break their frost-covered shields, and kill them. Odin wasn't going to let her get out of Midgard alive, but she was stronger than she looked. Also, Midgard was her home. She knew where every trap she put down was. They wanted her; they were going to lose a lot of men trying to get her. Realizing more and more were coming, she needed to return to the caves. There were massive spiders, but Hilda remembered how they all went after her for some unknown reason. Left with minimal options, Hilda would have to wipe all of them out or hope Sindri would find her in time.

Hilda took off running as they fired arrows at her. Hilda used her magic to attack them but ran low on everything. Hilda had been fighting for hours already, and the more she resisted, the more tired she got. Monsters started to go after her as she heard howling off in the distance. Nightmares began shooting balls of electricity at her, and hel-walkers were somehow in Midgard. Everything wanted to kill her or hurt her bad enough so they could take her to Odin so he could finish the job.

"Sindri! Kratos! Atreus!" Hilda yelled as she ran for her life threw the woods.

She got hit with a massive fire fall which set her clothes on fire, so she had to roll in the snow to put it out. Her hands were turning numb due to the cold, and so were her feet. Snow started to fall, but it was light, and thanks to her magic markers, whoever went looking for her would find her dead or alive. She turned to look at what hit it, and it was a Hateful. A creature made out of the pure fire, which made it hard for her to beat herself. They had fought one before but not like this, not while Hilda was alone. Hilda quickly killed it as it tried killing her first, but a rope got wrapped around her leg, and she got yanked to the ground. Hilda cut herself free from the whip and then threw her sword at the half-deer creature killing it instantly once it pierced her chest.

An arrow hit her armor, making her look at the Einherjar on her trail. Hilda saw she was close to a cliff, so she did the only thing could. She quickly ran off the cliff and took out her axes. She used them to slow down her fall by embedding them into the side of the mountain. Sparks flew as they went across the rocks and stopped halfway down the small mountain. She quickly climbed down but slipped as she got closer to the ground. Hilda hit the ground hard but got up and started running some more as more Einherjar began to come from Asgard.

Hilda didn't know where she was now and was lost, but she still kept running to try to find anything that looked familiar to her. Her sides were on fire, and her lungs felt like they were going to explode if she didn't take a break, But Hilda knew she would die if she stopped running. Monsters were coming for her now, too; her little hope for someone finding her alive was fading fast.

"Kratos! Atreus! Sindri! Brok! Fraya!" She screamed as arrows flew passed her head.

Blood ran down Hilda's arms and face from the cuts she got from fighting. Her armor was falling apart as she ran down to the mass damage she got from the monsters she was fighting all alone. Hilda never wished so hard that Atreus was with her. Hilda missed him and didn't want him to be lying dead in the snow somewhere. Hilda tried to protect him, and she needed to save him. Hilda was stubborn, so if she had to climb out of hell to save Atreus, she would do it.

An Einherjar man tackled her and started ripping off what armor she had left, and tried to stab her with a knife. Hilda grabbed the man's hand and slowly started to overpower him. She made him stab himself in the chest and then pushed him off her. Hilda took off her armor and quickly left a note for anyone to find it that she was okay. Her armor was not wearable anymore, and she felt like she was going to cry.

She had never felt so alone since she was forced to be by herself for almost a whole year. She had to keep running and fight, but now Hilda couldn't, seeing as they now surrounded her. One against twenty wasn't a fair fight, but she was going go down fighting one way or another. She got out her axes and was ready to die to protect Atreus where ever he may be.

Hilda wasn't the only one fighting for their lives; Heimdall was kicking Atreus's ass without even touching him, which was pissing him off. Heimdall was talking wrong about him, about his relationship with his girlfriend; anything to trigger his rage, he was doing it. He wanted to prove he was better than Atreus; also, he was going to show him that Atreus was useless. Why would Odin want him? He was going to betray all fathers, and for what? To protect a useless waste of space that shouldn't even exist.

Hilda was a disgrace to all of creation, and Odin wanted her and knew for a while that she was with Atreus. The only thing Odin needed to do was make Hilda mad enough to do what he wanted; then maybe Ragnarok would stop, and Atreus, along with his father, would be dead. Heimdall just wanted to mess with Atreus, and hopefully, all father would let him kill Atreus and Hilda.

"Your girlfriend is a whore; I hope you know that. I mean, her mother threw herself at all father then once she did, she ran off. What do you think she will do once she sleeps with you? No woman in their right mind would go to bed with you. You act like an animal," he said as Atreus got up.

"My girlfriend is not a part of this! I have no idea why everyone attacks her, but I will make you shut up!" Atreus yelled.

"Go ahead and try; you are doing a bang-up job right now. Your girlfriend must only love you because you are available to her," he said as Atreus tried getting him, but Heimdall quickly dodged his attack.

"Shut up!" Atreus yelled angrily.

Heimdall took out his sword and pointed it at him, and smiled at Atreus, who was lying on his back. He had tried everything, but Heimdall couldn't get past his power of foresight. He knew all of his moves, what made him angry just by looking at him. He wished Hilda was here because if she were, he wouldn't have picked a fight with him; even if he didn't start it, Hilda would have finished it with her words and kept him calm.

"That is enough," Thor said as Heimdall turned to look at him.

"We are done when I say we're done. What are you going to do, Thor?" He asked as Thor crossed his arms.

Thor looked at him, and Heimdall paused, annoyed. He knew all fathers wanted him alive, but there was no point in him even being here. They could quickly kill Kratos now if they wanted to. Just use his son as bait and Hilda, kill them both, then him. It would be so easy to do, yet that wasn't the plan at all. It would be much simpler if they did it his way, but maybe if Atreus messed up enough, he would get to kill Atreus. He could drop Kratos's dead son next to Odin and Hilda's. He wanted to see the look on his face when he saw them both over.

"Fine," he said, knowing what he would do.

"Loki! You made it, Heimdall, thank you, but I will no longer need you right now," Odin said.

"But he means to betray you," he said, knowing Atreus's whole demeanor for being here.

No one could hide from him. He knew what everyone was like, what they feared, and what pissed them off. Best of all, he could predict their every move so they could never hit him, no matter how hard they tried.

"I know, but trust is earned. I haven't given him any reason to trust me yet. Do you mean to cross me, Loki?" Odin asked.

"Well... I did and still do," he paused.

"Honesty, I like that. To be honest with you, Loki, I am thrilled you can help me. But first, I would like to show you something," Odin said as he took him into his home.

In his study, there was a picture of Hilda's mother drawn out, and Atreus froze, seeing how similar they looked. The only real difference was that Hilda was blond. Everything else looked so much alike that it was scary, but Sindri was definitely in love with Hilda's mother. Odin wanted her because he was selfish and didn't care what anyone had to say, and Atreus knew it.

"I met her a long time ago; if you can believe it, she was the love of my life after Fraya betrayed me. I'm telling you this because I would have a kid about your age now. I will never get to meet the kid; I don't think. Iðunn just took off after I told her I wanted to marry her. She left in the middle of the night, and I hadn't seen her since. We had a stupid fight about the giants; she sided with them, but I didn't love her any less. You have been around the nine realms, right? Have you seen anyone maybe looking like her or me? Would you?" Odin asked as Atreus knew Hilda was safe and out of harm's way now, so he could tell him even though he already knew.

"Um yeah, actually I have; I'm dating your daughter," he said, trying to force out the word your.

He wasn't her father; Sindri was. He was there for everything and kept her safe as best he could. Odin wanted nothing to do with her and if he really cared about her mother then he wouldn't have done that horrible act that brought Hilda into the world. Hilda was still the love of his life though and was glad she was with him.

"I- I have a daughter... what about her mother? Have you seen her mother?" He asked as he grabbed Atreus's shoulders a bit rough.

Maybe Odin didn't know.

"She died years ago; I'm sorry. Two dwarfs took her in and raised her. She's nice, but she has a hard time trusting people. Also, her mother wrote her a note blaming you for everything. I didn't read it, but if you try to explain to her, I don't think she would believe you," Atreus informed sadly.

"Why would she- all because of that fight we had. I loved her so much. I have been sending my men out to look for anyone who looked like her or me. I was worried about Ragnarok, and I wanted to at least spend some time with her before the end. Wait, was my daughter the one with you in Midgard? Huginn had told me you were with someone," he informed.

"Yeah, but I don't know where she is now; probably home and out of the cold," Atreus said as a second raven came in.

"I... Atreus, I need to go to Midgard Hilda didn't make it back home monsters found her. Atreus, I know you want to go, but I can't let you if she... losing a child is hard, and if she didn't make it, then I don't want you to see what those monsters did to her," Odin said as worry swept across his face.

"But she is my girlfriend, my best friend! I have to go looking for her! It's my fault she was there by herself!" Atreus yelled.

"Atreus, if I find her, she will be fine. Is there anything that would get her to trust me enough to come with me?" Odin asked.

"Olive," Atreus said, wishing he had stayed with her.

He was so focused on himself and thinking she made it home safely, not realizing Odin had split them up on purpose. If she were dead, he would never forgive him for what he had done.

"Okay, there is a room for you down on the right once you leave the office and walk down the hallway. Wait there, and I'll bring her back here," Odin said as Atreus was close to having a mental breakdown.

Hilda's clothes were ripped to spreads to the point they didn't even really look like clothes anymore. She was scratched up, beaten up, burned, and had an arrow that was broken off in her right shoulder and her left leg. Several bones were broken, and she was in between two trees on her knees in the cold snow. Sher's wrists were tied to a thick branch on both trees. The Einherjar were laughing at her as they burned her body and cut her skin, making her bleed.

"Laugh all you want, but you guys are dead, forced to work for a selfish-jackass that can't take a hint. I'm free, and I will stay that way," she laughed as one kicked her in the ribs hard.

"Come on, is that all you got? Man and I thought those cannibals were weak," she chuckled as one took out their sword.

"Stop it right now!" Odin demanded as they cleared a way for Odin.

"Oh wow, the great and powerful Odin has come to save me. Please do me a favor and kill yourself saves me a heck of a lot of trouble to kill you myself," she spat as Odin looked at her sadly.

"I know your mother spoke ill of me and lied to you, but we can be a family again. I always wanted a daughter; you know that? What's your name?" He asked as she rolled her eyes.

"Cut the crap; I know better. No amount of acting is going to fool me, you bastard," she informed as Odin sighed.

"I am sorry; you have to believe me. I didn't want them to hurt my daughter. I just wanted them to find you, but you attacked them. Afraid you two were dating... I'm kind of shocked, but he is a handsome young boy, so I don't blame you there," he smiled as he went closer to her.

"Come any closer, and I will crush your skull, and don't think I won't. You killed him, so I have nothing left holding me back. Once I'm dead, I know Kratos will come and will gut you like a fish for not only killing me but his son," she informed coldly.

"I just want to help you, but if you want to stay here, I can't force you to come with me. Atreus is alive; I would never hurt him. You have to believe me. Before I came here, he said something about Olive, but if you want to stay here, I will cut you loose and leave you here alone," He said as Hilda sighed weakly.

Atreus was alive, and with Odin, he wasn't dead.

"Fine, I will go with you, but if you do anything I don't like, I will shove my sword up your ass," she informed as he cut her loose.

"Just like your mother, she was so protective over the giants," he informed as she collected her armor and put it on even though it was falling apart. She left a note in the snow on a piece of armor she couldn't wear any longer.

Once she was done, Odin told her where to find Atreus as soon as they got to Asgard. Hilda didn't waste any time to make sure Atreus was alive. She was leaving a blood trail, and she was having a hard time healing since she was focused on Atreus rather than herself. She heard a female voice coming from his room.

"Get off of my boyfriend, or I will make you," Hilda informed as both of them looked at her.

"Hilda! What happened to you?!" Atreus asked as Trud dropped her sword.

"Loki was telling me you were hurt. I'll grab some things to help you heal," she said, shocked as she quickly left to grab theing.

Atreus quickly grabbed her as she started to fall and coughed up blood. He couldn't belive she was in such bad shape. He was happy he had her back though and he was going to help her the best he could.
