The Story Of Gold
"Hey, Hilda, I think my father found something over there. Do you want to go check it out?" Atreus asked as Hilda was still looking through books.
"I'm still looking, I know you wanted to check out every section, but Atreus, if we hurry, we might miss something that concerns my powers. The last thing I want is for them to kill you like they tried to do with me," she informed.
"We know about the blood. What do you think it means?" Mimir asked.
"No, not just the blood. Something, or rather someone, said die and threw a knife at me—my knife, to be more precise. Luckily, Atreus wasn't there for that. Otherwise, he may have been stabbed instead of the wall," she informed.
"Your bloody powers told you to die and threw a knife at you?" Mimir asked, horrified.
"Yes, luckily, it missed," Hilda informed.
"What could do that?" Mimir asked, "I never heard of anything like that. We have our work cut out for us then."
"We do indeed, Kratos. Do you have any thoughts about what my powers could be doing? I mean, it seems like..." She paused as she finally realized what her powers were trying to do.
She knew her purpose and now what her powers were. It should have been so apparent to her, but she could never have thought about that before now.
"Like what?" Kratos asked.
"Like they are just out to get me, sorry this book is kind of hard to read," she informed.
"You were not made out of love, whatever was given to your mother. I am sure it is now attacking your body but slower since your mother blocked you from using your powers in the first place. As your powers grow, so does the poison. I am sure it was made like that so if Odin did conceive a child, the child would not live long enough to kill him. Your powers' growth must be caused by the poison as well. The more you use them, the quicker the poison can spread," Kratos informed.
"Then why did my black veins disappear when Atreus hugged me?" She asked.
"You have a strong bond with him. You shared a bed to eliminate your nightmares, but you may have shared more than you intended," Kratos informed.
"Aye, you can say that again. If you got Hilda pregnant, I swear Sindri will hold you accountable for that for the rest of your life!" Mimir informed.
"It was his choice. He will have to face the consequences of his actions one way or another," Kratos informed Atreus as he turned red.
"I, um, she's not," Atreus said, unsure.
"You did do the thing, right?" Hilda asked.
"Well, yeah," Atreus said as he was turning red.
"My gosh, have you seen yourself? You as red as red can get," Hilda chuckled as he looked down at the ground.
"Well, this is private stuff," he said shyly.
"Sorry, it just came out. It's not my fault you were getting thoughts, Atreus," Hilda smiled.
"I will leave if we don't stop talking about it," he said as she chuckled more.
Atreus loved it when she smiled at him, so he decided to embarrass her. He picked up a flower and leaned on a wall while watching her go through the books. Watching her was very rewarding since he saw how she looked while she concentrated and carefully put the books back after not finding what she was looking for.
"Hey, Hilda," he said as she looked over at him; he quickly put the flower in his mouth, then raised his eyes brows quickly.
"Oh my God, Atreus, you are trying so hard, but it's not working," she laughed as he went over to her and dropped himself on her shoulders.
"Oh really? Not even my dashing good looks or my strength can impress you?" He asked as she started to laugh at him.
"My gosh, I have blown up your ego. Sorry, but I'm already taken by a bashful guy. His name is Atreus, if you don't know," she chuckled.
"Totally; better looking than this Atreus guy you speak of," he laughed as she tried so hard not to laugh at him as he flexed for her.
"Oh yeah, I can see you are a total stud," she said while laughing.
"Nice moves, Kratos. Is this how you got your wife?" Hilda asked as Kratos was very confused about how strange Atreus was acting.
He didn't get that from him at all. He didn't know where he got it from, but she seemed to enjoy it, and that is why he continued to do it.
"No, I never did any of whatever that is," Kratos answered as they continued to look around until they found a book.
"This book is sealed, but there is an inscription," Kratos informed as Atreus still showed off to Hilda.
"That lad is something else. No wonder you kept him away from women," Mimir said as he watched the pair.
It was so painful to watch Atreus flirting or attempting to flirt with Hilda that it was hilarious. No one would ever take him seriously if he did want to go on a date with a girl other than Hilda, who was enjoying watching Atreus make a complete fool out of himself.
"Come, we must get going," Kratos informed as they started to head out.
"Hey, Hilda, I know we didn't find anything here about your powers, but everything is going to be okay," Atreus said as she smiled.
"I know, es with you around, I got a winner," she smiled.
"I know I am so amazing," he chuckled as they went into the next room and saw the librarian making them all freeze.
She knew they had the journal that Kratos took, and she didn't seem too happy about it either. She looked like she would attack, so Hilda quickly made a gold shield. The woman paused in shock, seeing Hilda's powers, and she put her weapons away to admire her powers.
"Did I do something wrong?" She asked as the woman touched the shield, and some gold light got on her hand.
"If you did, she would be trying to kill us," Mimir informed as she watched the light disappear; she touched the shield again, but no light rubbed off on her making them all confused as to why this elf was so curious about her powers.
"Do you know anything about her powers?" Kratos asked as the woman seemed to be in her little world momentarily.
"Maybe it's like the pillar of light, and it reminds her of that," Hilda said as she looked up at them as Hilda put her shield down.
"She said you can take the book, but be careful who you show it to," Mimir informed.
"Just like that? Are my powers that odd?" Hilda asked.
"No, I think that she thinks they are beautiful. Maybe you hypnotized her or something," Atreus suggested.
"Right, hey, um, where did I get my powers from? What do they mean to you?" Hilda asked as the woman held out her hand. Kratos gave her the book. She flipped the pages and found the words she was looking for.
She pointed to the words and carefully gave them the book back.
"Life and death. This book has nothing to do with your powers, but that is the meaning behind your powers," Kratos informed.
"Great, well, that makes a lot of sense, I guess. Some scary voice telling me to die and my powers protecting you guys when I'm not around at the cost of my blood and health," she informed.
"Hilda, your death prophecy isn't going to happen; I won't let it," Atreus said as Kratos nodded, and the lady did the same.
"Two and two are not adding up to the right number. We don't have everything we need," Hilda said, but she had everything she needed; she just couldn't tell them.
If she did, then whatever was supposed to happen wouldn't happen, and it would be a lie if she said she wasn't scared at all. She was, but she had to choose to be a monster or not to be a monster when it came down to it, and she was still trying to decide what to be. It seemed like an easy choice, but nothing was how it appeared.
