The Plan To Save Atreus (Ch22)
It was hard for Hilda to sleep knowing Atreus was gone, she wanted him back by her side and safe. Kratos found out that Atreus left but didn't know when so he was waiting for him to come back. Hilda wrote that he needed to come back but he never replied to it. Her only spell that she put on hid book was gone and she was scared for him.
Earlier in the day she talked to Brok about not trusting Týr. Brok also had his suspensions since the food was to good. She refused to eat it but she had her suspensions about the food as well. Not that it was to good but that one of the things she noticed in Atreus's food was that some of the food he put in it didn't look like some of the food they had however he could have just cut them oddly or cooked them differently then she normally did.
"Sindri can I talk to you for a second?" Hilda asked.
"Sure, what's wrong Hilda?" He asked.
"I... I gave Atreus a book that would let us talk to each other but he hasn't wrote anything in it in a while. Even the protection spell I put in it got used! The last time we talked he told me he loved me and he was doing things he couldn't tell me about," she said as he put some metal away.
"You don't think he went to Asgsrd do you?" He asked.
"I know where he is, he didn't go there. I can't tell you where he went because if I tell you it might put him in danger. I promised him I wouldn't say anything about it. It was a promise like you made you my mother about me," she explained.
"Wow okay... do you think you need to go find him?" Sindri asked.
"I won't be able to go if I wanted to... it's a giant thing and he got there some how I just don't know how. Also I may have thought he lied to me so I checked from crow feathers and I didn't find any. I just feel helpless and I don't know what to do," she expressed.
"Well Atreus and his father will get into a fight about this, we both know that. Where do you think he will end up after he's finished with what he's doing?" Sindri asked.
"Home, I would. But if I was fighting with you two I would want to go home, home. Back when I felt the safest. The place where everything was much simpler," she explained.
"You should go there and wait for him there then," Sindri informed.
"I can't just do that, I am sure Kratos feels I did something to make him leave. Maybe convinced him to go run off, but all I did was tell him he knew what to do, I just thought it was going to be faster. I will go to the mines and look for materials then head over there. Kratos will look there first I'm sure of it," she said.
"He will go looking if he gets desperate enough to do it, I'll tell you when he leaves," Sindri informed.
"Thank you, I would rather not get killed by him," she explained as he nodded.
"Neither would I," he said as Kratos put Mimir down and went to his room.
Hilda started packing her things and Mimir looked looked over at her.
"You are leaving?" Mimir asked.
"Well I want to upgrade armor and we are low on things. Atreus will come back he just need to cool off. I have done that several times," Hilda informed trying to hide the fact she was worried about him and she couldn't help but feel like maybe it was her fault.
She encouraged him to go off and try to find out how to stop this mess. All he wanted was answers and she could understand that better then anyone, but she wished he took her with him. All she wanted was an answer from him or an I love you. Something that would let her know that he was alright.
"Hilda, may I ask you a personal qestion?" He asked.
"Sure I guess," she answered.
"Do you know about um the birds and the bees?" He asked as Hilda paused.
"Yeah why? I'm not stupid," she said as she went to packing a few extra things.
"Never said you were, i was just wondering if Atreus was acting differently around you? Maybe said something," He informed.
"Like what? Do you have anything to upgrade my weapons with?" She asked.
"No, like something else. Maybe he asked you to be his girlfriend," he said as she dropped her stuff trying to seem pissed off.
"I'm interested men not boys that know shit about women. Have you told him about women?" Holda asked crossing her arms.
"A little we kind of told him," Mimir informed.
"Does he know about periods or boobs? Or where it goes?" She asked.
"Um no on the last two. All we told him was what his body was going threw. What he was feeling nothing really about anything else. He is in awfully shy lad when it comes to the subject, the reason I asked was because I was afraid part of the reason he left was because you rejected him," Mimir informed.
"First off you should have told him, second we are just friends, third if ever suggested we do anything of that sort I have a knife with his name on it and I'm not afraid to cut something off," she informed coldly.
"I was just asking because you seem knowledgeable and...." he paused.
"You are suggesting I have slept around, the answer is no! I'm nice to him because he trusts me with his life so I return the favor. I can't belive you suggested that you suggested I would be involved with him. Figures though all men think about is sleeping with girls. Atreus isn't like that, he had plenty of opportunities to do something to me and he never touched me, never kissed me, never laid a hand on me except for that one time when he helped me with my nightmares. That was by accident and he was terrified he ruined out friendship because he knows exactly how I am and how I'm not interested in him," she growled.
"I saw you kiss him Hilda," he put in.
"You mean thanking him for not being a jack ass who's only interest is to get as many girls in his pants as possible? Wow; so you think he ran away because of me and not because his father is being over protective. I know it's hard belive me but we need to make mistakes in order to grow as hard as that sounds. I know you and Kratos made horrible mistakes but Atreus has learned from the both of you and he is trying to figure out what he wants to do in his life.
I'm not in the picture here at all. I'm just here to make sure he doesn't end up dead. He left me here so obviously he felt like he needed to do this alone without me. He is trying to protect us or trying to get answers nothing more. If he knows what happened to my mother he knows not to go to Asgard. I trust him to be smart but no one around here apparently does. Now if you excuse me I have things to collect," she informed.
"Hilda I'm sorry," Mimir apologized.
"Be sorry for Atreus, I don't need your apologies. You and his father think he's trying to get into my pants and that I would let him. Atreus is a good innocent kid and I'm happy he calls me his friend and was willing to anything to help me when I was sick," she informed, "but thank you for your apology. I maybe hard to deal with but I don't just give myself to just anyone."
She collected the last of her things and headed to the mine hoping that Atreus would be back soon. She missed him even though he was gone only for a day, it felt like years that he had been gone to her. Also she give herself to him because he was the first guy to actually try to help her instead of trying extremely hard to get into her pants. He was a first for a lot of things witch was a breath of fresh air to her but maybe he didn't want to come back home to face her. Maybe she moved to fast and she scared him away.
"Well that was close," Atreus informed as he finished killing the last of the monsters.
They did make it to the lake only to find monsters in it after to skipping a couple of stones into the water. He wasn't really good at skipping stones because the lakes were frozen but looking out at the lake made him miss when Midgard wasn't frozen. He would have loved to have taken Hilda around the lake or maybe something else. He held a smooth rock and sighed thinking about Hilda. He tossed rhe rock in the water hoping maybe he could go back soon. Maybe it was time to go home, Hilda needed him and he needed her. She was probably worried and knowing her ready to break his skull witch was an odd comforting thought.
"Come on, I got a gift of sorts hidden away," Angrboða informed as he looked over at her and they got back on Jalla.
"Sorry I didn't bring yiu anything," he apologized.
"You did actually; well in a way. You brought yourself and I get to talk to you for a bit before you go," she smiled.
"I know but you are by yourself here, Hilda was gone for a long time and I know how it effected her really badly. Maybe you should come visit us, I know Hilda would like it. So you could you know talk about girl stuff," he said.
"I would like that but I have to take care of this place. Plus Hilda might get jealous that I'm spending time with you," she explained.
"I don't think so, honestly I think she would like to have more friends. I mean so would I; I never really been around other kids my age besides Hilda. She was mostly around guys and that's why she hated guys mostly. I don't blame her for that, I would hate them to if they didn't think I could do stuff because I was a girl," Atreus informed.
"I would kick there butts to," she said with a smile.
"So I have a qestion, are we the only giants left? In the prophecie there were suposed to fight a long side me. But we can't have an army of them if it's only us three. Hilda is really strong and so are we but not army strong," he informed.
"We are sort of, it's hard to explain. It would be easier if I showed you," she informed.
"Also about the prophecy; has anyone ever changed it?" He asked.
"Well some details can change but the end point always is the same. It's better to go with it rather then struggle against it," she explained.
"I just don't my father to die or my girlfriend to turn into a monster and get killed," he sighed.
"You think I'm okay with all of this? All I am supposed to do is to tell you this is going to happen. I think your nice and you are very lucky to have Hilda with you threw this that's more then some other people have right now in these dark times. But fate is fate and there is nothing you can do to change it all you can do if find comfort in hoping there deaths aren't painful and that you are there for them when they go so you can say goodbye to them," she explained sadly.
They went threw the water and came across more land and an elevator. They left Jalla behind and started to go up. Atreus had to think of something to stop Hilda from turning into a monster and his fathers death some how. He had to protect them both, Hilda and his father had been protecting him for a long time. Hilda jumped off a brige to save his life and threw am axe at his head. Maybe all he had to do was not to tell her; but eventually it will come out and he wanted to be the one to tell her.
"So this gift; you don't seem excited about it. So this will be the end of me being here isn't it?" Atreus asked.
"Only if you want it to be. You will understand better once we get there," she sighed.
"Just because I have to leave doesn't mean you have to stay here, Hilda would like you. You two are the same almost with how you guys think and stuff," he said.
"And that we are both girls?" she chuckled.
"Yeah, I mean I wasn't going to say it," he smiled.
"We are almost there," Angrboða informed as they came up to a clearing.
"Hey I have been here, me and my father put my mothers ashs on the top of that peak right there. Thats where we saw all the giants were gone," Atreus said
"To make sure if Odin did find this place they hid and left a pile of corpses behind to confuse him.
"So where are they hiding?" Atreus asked as she continued to walk.
"We got a little bit farther to go," she said as they came across a wall.
Atreus got ready to help her up but she was able to get up there herself just like Hilda. They came up a pile a rocks and Hilda took out a bag with marbles in it.
"More marbles neat," he said as he started to look threw them.
"Wait you have seen these before?" She asked.
"Not these but I found some in your mother's shrine," he said as he pulled one out to show her.
"There are more out ther," she said quietly as he started to look threw them.
"These belong to the giants?" He asked.
"These are the giants, they had a choice to wait for Odin to slaughter them or hide. My father whispered there souls into these marbles and before he died he passed them on to me to protect them. Now they belong to you," she said as he looked at her shocked.
"Are you sure?" Atreus asked as he took them carefully and sat down next to her.
"Well my mother saw your future, she said you would know what to do when the time comes," she explained.
"When is that?" He asked.
"I don't know, let's head back," she said softly as she started to head back.
"Angrboða this is a lot of responsibility, are you alright?" Atreus asked.
"Yeah, my part in this us all over now. I'm not really sure what to do now," she explained.
"Well you can come back with me and fight Odin. I know you disappear half way threw my mural but that doesn't mean you don't help in some way. I mean u never even knew Hilda was going to be in my story. It's not even really my story, it's all of ours," he explained.
"Thank you but if I was suposed to be there with you I would be there. But im not, let's keep going," she said with a sad smile.
"You still can be," he paused.
"Something feels off we need hurry," she informed.
"Oh no we left Jalla alone!" Atreus informed as they started to head back quickly.
Jalla was luckly fine, but Angrboða still had this bad feeling and he could see it on her face. He wished he could tell people about this place but he knew better and Hilda new making it dangerous enough already.
"Angrboða i promise to keep it safe and Hilda does to. Even if she isnt here; i know what she would say. She would do anything for you if she trusted you. She jumped off a brige for me, nearly died becauseof it to. I know she would trust you," he informed.
"Thank you, there is a sink hole I get my paints from. If you want you can help me one last time," she suggested.
"I would like that, do you think I can take a flower home for Hilda? The last two she turned into medicine," he informed.
"Sure, I don't think it would hurt. Plus she might like it," she said as they went down into the hole.
"She made fun of me for killing a flower the first time I did it. The second time she was sick and I didn't know how bad it was. I was going to help her sleep but instead..," he paused.
"It's okay, seeing people you love die is hard. I don't blame you for being afraid of them and trying to change change things. But remember one way or another it will happen," she sighed as they killed off some monsters.
"You know Hilda, has a pet wrech named lady, she isn't anything like these. She is nice and protected me from these kind wreches," he informed.
"Wow Hilda, is very good with animals," she informed.
"She even tamed Níðhögg," Atreus informed.
"That thing I don't think anything or anyone could do that," she said.
"You will be surprised, Hilda is very caring," Atreus informed.
They made it out of the pit a little while later and watched the fire flies fly by. At first he thought they were dangerous because he had never seen them before but after realizing they weren't he was more then happy to be around them. He sat on some rocks with Angrboða and watched them for a second until he heard a yelp coming from the woods. He quickly got up and Angrboða fallowed only to hide him out a sight and put a hand over his mouth.
"Finally got you," a voice said making him want to get out of his hiding place and help the wolf.
"Shhh, you can't!" Angrboða whispered softly as the yelping continued.
"Shut up!" The voice growled, "to late to whine now."
Then the whines grew farther and father away.
"Who was that?" Atreus asked as he saw a blood pool where the wolf went down.
"Grala, she-" Angrboða paused as Atreus came across an animal but he couldn't feel anything.
"What's wrong with it? I can't feel anything," Atreus pointed out.
"There is nothing to feel she whispered its soul away," she explained.
"Do you know where she lives?" Atreus asked.
"What are you going to do?" Angrboða asked.
"I buried enough wolves this winter, someone has to stop her. We can do it," Atreus informed.
"Fallow me," she said.
Atreus come back home.
Atreus whipped around hearing Hilda's voice but she wasn't there making him sigh a bit.
"I will, after this. I promise," he said as Angrboða looked at him.
"Did you say something?" Angrboða informed.
"I think I'm hearing things, that or Hilda is asleep and she found me," Atreus said as he continued to fallow Angrboða.
"Fucking shit Atreus! You fucking better or I will be the least of your problems!" Hilda informed as she looked over in the cave and saw a massive spider looking down at her.
"Fucking fucks! Of corse why the fuck not?" Hilda said as she got up and drew her weapons.
"Let's party you filthy animal!" Hilled yelled as she got ready to fight the spider in the cave she was in.
