The one Ring (Ch46)

"I think we are missing the point of the norms message here. We all tend to make certain choices, and yours is to run headlong into danger to protect the ones you love," Mimir said after an hour of silence.

"You want me to change that?" Kratos asked.

"No, why should you? I tend to kill the ones I love," Fraya informed.

"Freya," Kratos paused.

"I don't need you to comfort me. Neither of you," She said as they started climbing down the mountainside.

"Their accusations were cruel. We didn't believe them," Mimir informed.

"The truth can be a cruel thing; anyone cares to argue with that?" Freya asked.

"No, but Balder's fate had many causes. The prophecy was one of those causes, " Kratos informed.

"How do you mean?" Mimir asked as they found a zip line and used it.

"There are many tales of prophecy being fulfilled by people trying to avoid it. So it was when Freya tried to protect Balder. So it was when I accused my son of going to Asgard," Kratos informed.

"So we all agree that it is foolish to go after Heimdall?" Mimir asked.

"No, if Heimdall must die for Atreus and Hilda to live, then he must die," Kratos said.

"How can you say that knowing what you know?" Mimir asked.

"Because if Heimdall is a threat to my son and Hilda, I must act," Kratos informed.

"It is in your nature, well-played Norms. Do you think Hilda will die?" Mimir asked.

"If it means protecting my son from harm, she will. She cares for him as she cares for Sindri and Brok. She would die for anyone she loves, even the beasts she has befriended," Kratos informed.

"Let us find a gateway and get home; consider our plan," Kratos said as they got down the mountain and got back to the wolves.

"If anything, we should blow off some steam. Give us some time to think," Mimir said, still annoyed with the norms.

"I would like to revisit the other realms," Fraya said, being sick of Midgard.

"There is a gravestone over there that's intact. Do you think that sword hilt you found will fit in that?" Freya asked.

"There is a joke somewhere. I'm not saying it," Hilda said, making Kratos turn around quickly.

"What?" Freya asked.

"I heard Hilda's voice," Kratos said.

"I didn't hear anything," Fraya informed.

"Neither did I," Mimir said.

"Hmmm, prepare for a fight," Kratos said as he put the hilt in the stone.

Walls appeared, and a man in armor appeared and quickly knocked Kratos to the ground. He should have known this would happen, seeing Fraekin the zealous written on the gravestone. The fight was somewhat more complicated than he thought it was going to be; in fact, the man knocked his shield away from him. Kratos didn't have a chance to dodge the next attack, so he got ready to deflect it when a gold shield appeared, blocking the attack he was going to try to deflect with his arm.

Fraya was firing her arrows, but finally, she got out her sword once Kratos sent the man flying. Kratos got out his blades and started using them against the man. The man turned out to be a woman once he heard her speak, but that didn't matter; he was going to lay her to rest once and for all. He got out his axe and quickly cut off her head, ending the fight.

"Take that, you ball bag!" Mimir yelled, "Brother if you see more of these ghastly warriors. Give them what you gave this one! You will be doing the nine realms a favor!"

"Did they do you wrong at some point, Mimir? You seem more upset than you normally are," Fraya said.

"No reason to relive ancient history," Mimir said with annoyance.

They returned to the wolves and saw a gate near where Sindri set up shop, and he looked rather annoyed at him for some reason. He wasn't too worried about it, but now he was faced with a choice about revealing what the Norms told him. He didn't want to tell him that Hilda was going to die, but if he didn't, tell him, and he found out. It would be a lot worse than hearing it from a friend.

"What are you guys doing? Don't pick fights with the dead; what's wrong with you? Are they not dead enough for you?" Sindri asked as he crossed his arms.

"It needed to be done," Kratos informed.

"Why are you sparkling?" Sindri asked as Fraya looked over at him and almost started laughing.

"Hilda, her powers saved me again," Kratos Kratos informed.

"But all the spells she put on us have worn off," Fraya informed.

"That's true; Hilda's powers are probably growing again," Mimir informed.

"That is not a comforting thought," Fraya informed.

"Her powers are growing, but I thought they grow with age for all you gods," Sindri said.

"That's what they are supposed to, but hers aren't, which is very concerning," Fraya sighed as Kratos went to the gate and opened it.

"Will it kill her?" Sindri asked.

"I don't know, I have never seen this happen before," Freya said as they went threw the gate.

"Now tell me this power Heimdall welds; he sees the future," Kratos said as they started to head home.

"More like he sees the person; he sees their intentions," Mimir explained.

"My intention will be to kill him, knowing that will not be an advantage," Kratos informed.

"Brother, he isn't someone you want to underestimate. He sees all your moves before you make them. If you want to face him, we need something. An edge, humor me?" Mimir asked.

"We will ask the dwarfs," Kratos informed.

"So Hilda has a death prophecy; should we tell Sindri?" Mimir asked.

"No. We will tell her once we see her again and allow her to make her own choices," Kratos informed.

"You don't want her to go running off and get herself killed, I get it, but he is her father. Her powers are growing too quickly; she will lose control, and when she does, it won't just be bad for the person receiving the brunt of it either," Mimir informed.

"If she is too dangerous to herself, we will contain her or show her how to control her powers. If she chooses the wrong path, I will kill her to prevent her from hurting anyone," Kratos informed.

"You will kill a little girl who hasn't experienced life?" Mimir asked, shocked.

"No, but if Atreus can not help her or any of us, she may die a painful death. We don't know yet how the growth of her powers is affecting her mind or her body. She could be in pain. If there is nothing we can do, I don't want her to suffer a painful death," Kratos informed.

"But Atreus loves her; if you kill her, he may never forgive you. He might even try to kill you or, worse, join Odin," Mimir explained.

"I will do what needs to be done," Kratos informed as they entered the house.

"Hello again! Sorry I had to collect my materials before coming here. Hilda, she normally does that now when she helps us. So what did the norms tell you? Please tell me they gave you a way to get Atreus and Hilda away from Odin," Sindri said. Kratos thought about what he had said earlier about telling him.

If he didn't tell him, someone else was.

"The norms had said that Heimdall would kill Atreus and Hilda. The plan is to kill Heimdall first," Kratos informed.

"Oh wow, okay. But you do know he has never lost a fight; he predicts every move. Are you sure they said he would kill them, or is he just planning on killing them? I know Hilda like the back of my hand; she will try her best to stop a fight from happening," Sindri informed.

"Whatever his advantages are, I will overwhelm him with my own," Kratos informed.

"That's the idea! You have to overpopulate his senses, and I think I have something that can do just that. Sindri, go get Dropmeir," Brok said.

"But we need it; our supplies are running extremely low, and without Hilda collecting all the stuff we need now, we can't afford to give it away. Their weapons could crack or work; worse, we will have to make more armor sets," Sindri explained.

"We have plenty that she has collected over the years. I'm not just thinking about Atreus here; Hilda is our kid o you want to burn her body, or what's left of it?" Brok asked.

"No, but even if we did give them Dropmeir, it's not a weapon. Oh, I see what you are trying to do. We can combine it with," Sindri paused.

"That's right," Brok said.

"Then when he uses it," Sindri said as he made an explosion with his hands.

"That's the idea," Brok informed.

"Hilda would love to see that. It will make her work harder, but I don't think she will mind that too much. That is brilliant, Brok. Well, since there is nothing to do but go fetch Dropmeir," Sindri informed with a slight smile.

"I should have known you two had nicked it, and Odin blamed me for it disappearing," Mimir informed.

"They stole Dropmeir?" Týr asked, shocked and a little annoyed.

"We didn't steal it; we ungifted what shouldn't have been gifted in the first place," Brok informed, sending his hostility.

Why would he be mad about them taking it back? Odin had used it for dark purposes; if anything, he should have been happy about them taking it back from Odin. Hilda maybe was correct; something was off about him.

"To even store it, you would need it," Fraya paused as Sindri went to a secret door and opened it up.

"I'll be back," Sindri said as he went into the lift.

Sindri heard them arguing as he went into the storage area for Dropmeir. He remembered when he took Hilda down here, he could teach her some things about it and how they never ran out of things. He remembered how excited she was, but even after she learned about its secrets, she still wanted to collect materials herself. She wanted to feel more accomplished, and since she didn't have any other use, she wanted to repay them for taking her in. Sindri had told Hilda several times that he was happy to do so, but she still insisted that she did things for them. It was here he said to her that no matter what she was, she was always going to be his kid and a dwarf, even if she was a giant.

The lantern he was using started to flicker, making him sigh in disbelief. After a couple of hits, the lift hit bottom, and he looked around to see if he could find it. He got out a metal stick with a hook so he could hook the rope that it was attached to and quickly got it.

"Don't lose it, Sindri," Hilda said, making him jump, and it started to multiply.

Hilda's gold outline laughed, making him smile after he hoped he had the right ring.

"I have no idea how you are doing that, but I hope you can hear me. I miss you, and I love you. I hope you come back home soon," he smiled as her gold figure disappeared.

Sindri was happy that he saw her for a moment, even if it wasn't her physical form.

"You are growing stronger; that explains why Kratos was covered in glitter," he said as his gloves were sparkling.

He loved the glitter, sure; he wasn't going to tell Brok about the glitter.
