The Loss Of A Friend (Ch16)

It was quite and calm despite the sands of the desert being so restless. They came across a cave that was covered in have stuff but oddly enough they needed to get out of the valley they were in and up to the desert.

"So Hilda, do you think that maybe you will be well enough to keep going with us?" Atreus asked.

"I would love to be but I doubt I will, this maybe my last trip with you all. I'm sorry I couldn't help you more," Hilda said apologetically.

"For being half human you have exceeded my expectations," Kratos informed.

"Thank you, it means a lot. I just wish I was one or the other some times," she explained as they started to go four the desert to find the creature.

However they kept finding other things weather then a cave entrance which was very frustrating while riding the gulon's sled that they pulled. But Hilda made the most of it since it was going to be the last time maybe they were going to be together. Kratos watched as Hilda took notes in her journal and pointed out diffrent pottery made by the elves.

Sure they were taking there time but it was nice to spend quality time with both of them since Hilda now trusted them fully. It was however hard to watch Atreus get so attached to her so quickly and now she was to weak to go any further. They hadn't known eachother long but they were talking like they had been friends for ages and sometimes didn't even have to talk to each other at all to know that they were talking.

"When we get back maybe we can work on that bowl," Atreus said looking at the pottery that was left behind.

"I hope so but I don't know if we left it out to long it might have dried out to much. I got to look at it," Hilda informed as she looked around.

"Father if you ever want to learn how to make some pottery Hilda is really good at it," Atreus said as Hilda laughed.

"I am not as good as you think I am, I have been doing g it for a while sure but I'm not as good as the dwarfs or people that have spent there lives doing it," Hilda said.

"So who's the bowl for Atreus?" Mimir asked as Hilda went off to another corner of the place they were in trying to figure out what the place was before it got abandoned.

"It's a surprise," Atreus said as sneezed but blood came out.

She quickly whiped it away and continued to look over the broken building.

"I do like a good surprise!" Mimir informed as as Kratos hmmed a response.

"Have you found any information on where or what the creature we are looking for?" Kratos asked.

"Sorry nothing here, I thought there would be something at one of the places we have been but nothing is here. This war is effecting there record keeping," Hilda said sadly.

"We shall move on then and quickly," Kratos said seeing the blood she had missed on her face.

Atreus looked over and saw her pale face as well as the blood. Hilda touched the blood she missed then wiped it off. Atreus smiled faded a bit seeing Hilda barely hanging in there but he knew she couldn't help it. The left the area and went back into the desert hoping to find a cave to go into soon but every time they stopped somewhere it was just an abandoned building or what was left of one. The cave was very hard to find even with the compass but after what felt like hours of searching and looking over every building that was lost in the desert they finally found the cave.

There were monsters as well as dark elves that seemed to be getting out of the storm but sadly they also tried to kill them. Hilda was getting weaker and weaker with every axe throw and with every shot she took with her bow. It was getting clear that she was getting worse extremely fast. She needed help but she still kept going trying to hide the fact that her body was giving out.

"Kratos the girl can't go much further she almost looks dead," Mimir whispered as she was trying not to throw up.

"We are so close! After this we can go home," Atreus informed as Hilda sighed.

"There is a second one out here," she said as Atreus looked at her a bit sad.

"Hilda we won't be able to get that one with how we you are right now, the elves might come soon to," Atreus informed as she nodded.

"We will get that one later then," she said as they continued to look threw the cave until they came to an opening revealing a massive creature that got trapped in the cave.

"Wow...." Hilda said as she saw the massive creature.

"What is this?" Atreus asked shocked seeing such a massive creature.

"This is a Hafgufa, it must have been burrowing under the sand and got stuck. It makes sence why the sands are so violent," Mimir informed.

"We will free this creature and head home for now," Kratos informed as they started to cut it lose.

Once they got it free down below they had to go back to the surface break the ground above it. It was an amazing sight seeing the creature rise from the ground and start flying around freely making Hilda and Atreus happy. Without knowing it they were holding hands and looking up at the sky seeing the beautiful creature fly around happily singing.

"Thank you father for doing this with us," Atreus said as he grunted in response.

"Your father just wanted to spend time with you two just incase ragnarok couldn't be avoided. Maybe now since this one is free maybe the sands will be calmer," Mimir informed.

"I thought you don't belive in prophecy?" Atreus asked.

"Things happen, what we do and don't do impact our future. If it is going to happen I want to make sure we have good memories," he said as Atreus sighed a bit.

"I'm sorry for the way I have been acting, I just want ragnarok not to happen but since it's going to only effect Asgsrd I want to Odin to pay for everything he has done. All the innocent people he killed and for what? So something may not happen instead of trying to save the relm he only has been thinking of himself and making sure he gets away alive," Atreus informed.

"He will get what's coming to him some day Atreus, one way or another. We should go I don't think I can actually fight anymore," Hilda said softly.

"We will discuss everything after some rest," Kratos said as hilda noticed she couldn't move one of her hands and saw Atreus was holding it.

"I'm going to be okay Atreus," Hilda said as Atreus looked down and quickly let go.

"Sorry," he apologized as she looked at him.

"If I was mad at you I would have yelled at you, I don't think I yelled at you," she said as she held his hand again.

"Oh..."

"I know you are scared for me but don't be really, I'll be fine," she said as she let go after a while.

They started to head back home and Hilda started to have a bad feeling that wasn't actually going to be okay. The thought of leaving Sindri and Brok behind as well as her other friends was something she didn't want to think about. Atreus may not forgive her for lying to him or worse yet be even more upset at the world even though it wasn't her fault or anyone else's really.

They made it back to the house and Atreus said there was another one of those creatures out in the desert. They were going to get it later after some rest and talking about the prophecy some. Sindri looked a little sad seeing Hilda in bad shape and new today was the day. They were gone two days so it was now or never. They were almost gone three days but luckily came back at night.

"Hilda may I talk to you for a second?" Sindri asked as she nodded.

"Yeah just one second Father," she said with a smile.

"So we will work on that bowl tomorrow of you feel up to it right?" Atreus asked.

"Well yeah we have to if we don't it will dry out and crumble and I don't think you want a crumbling bowl," she smiled.

"We can always make another one later it's not that big of a deal," Atreus said.

"We might not have time for another one until this whole thing blows over but I highly doubt it will just do that in a couple of days," she said as he sighed.

"Yeah you're right about that; maybe you can sleep in my bed again I highly doubt my father will let us do that know since I um know about you know what. But we can still try, it could get you better faster," Atreus informed.

"It might, well I have to go talk to my father so see you in a little bit," she said.

"Goodnight Hilda," he said as he hugged her and she huged him back.

"Don't worry about me, it's just a little something Fraya can fix," she said.

"I hope so," he said letting go if her then heading off to bed.

"Goodnight Kratos, thank you for your help," Hilda said.

"We needed to do it, thank you for your help," Kratos said as he went off to bed as well.

"What are you thinking brother?" Mimir asked.

"I am thinking Atreus has gotten attached to her. She is honest about what is going on with her but I fear she will not live much longer," Kratos informed.

"Why do you think she won't live much longer? She is resilient," Mimir informed.

"Her illness is not like what Atreus had its worse, those spells around her neck and wrists are killing her. What ever powers she has are not being used and I fear they may be attacking her body," he explained.

"Okay we will get them off of her then, where should we start and how should we?" Mimir asked.

"Fraya must know something about her if she knows about her. The dwarfs are hiding hiding something from her," he said.

"I don't think they would do that, Sindri especially would tell her the truth. He knows better then anyone what she has been threw in her life. Even if it was dirty her own good I don't think he would keep anything from her," Mimir stated.

"If your child was powerful however your child was unable to control them and put her life in danger every time your child used them; would you do anything to make sure you kept them safe?" Kratos asked.

"Yes I would I-" je paused as they heard Hilda start screaming bloody murder.

"Kratos, Atreus, Mimir, help!" Sindri yelled as things started exploding.

Light flashed under the door and the door started shaking violently before a bolt of lightning hit it and made it explode. Kratos took cover with Mimir as pieces of wood went flying at them. Kratos saw Hilda in the middle of the room screaming in pure agony as blood started to run down from her eyes and noise. Gold symbols were making there way up her body.

"Hilda!" Atreus yelled as he tried to get to her but was quickly blown backwards by second ankle cuff that no one knew she had exploding.

Kratos quickly went to his side and protected him with his shield from random bolts of lighting shooting around the house. Her cuffs caught on fire and random branches started to appear everywhere. They were growing in all typed of directions and quickly dying off while some caught on fire and started to fall to the ground.

"What the bloody hell is going on?!" Mimir yelled as one of her cuffs broke sending a huge wave of energy threw the house squishing them into the wall.

"Her cuffs are breaking! Her magic must have been to much for the spell to hold back!" Atreus yelled as another cuff exploded.

"We need to stop this or she will kill herself!" Kratos informed as her second wrist cuff broke sending a wave a gold light everywhere.

Lightning and tree branches were hitting Kratos shield and getting stronger with each cuff shattering. The one on her neck started cracking making her powers go even more insane. The windows started to crack and Hilda's eyes started to glow brighter with each second that passed. Then it the cuff shattered sending all the gold symbols away from her body. The windows exploded as she screamed out in pure agony as her powers escaped. Then the wind and all of the mayhem stopped. Hilda stopped screaming and fell to the ground hard.

"Hilda!" Sindri yelled as he took off his gloves and went to her as little sparks of lightning lit up small bits of her body.

"Is Hilda okay?!" Atreus asked as Sindri whiped the blood off of her face.

"Hilda? Hilda?" Sindri asked as he sat her up.

She coughed blood on Sindri's face then blood started to run out of her mouth like a waterfall. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she started to shake violently.

"Get her on her side!" Brok yelled as blood was leaving her at an alarming rate.

"What's wrong with her?!" Atreus asked terrafied.

"It's a long story," Sindri said as Týr came out of the broom closet.

"We need to go to Midgard now," Sindri said as she stopped shaking and picked her up.

"I'll go see if I can go find her!" Brok said as he disappeared.

"What do you mean long story?! What is going on with her?" Atreus asked as Sindri picked her up.

"The reason for the cuffs wasn't just to protect her from herself but from Odin as well. I'll tell you on the way, we can't stay here," Sindri informed.

"Do you wish for me to go with you?" Týr asked as he seemed worried for her health.

"I know you want to help her but Odin might find her, we can't have both of you getting taken. Please stay here," Sindri said as he hurried off to the gate.

Atreus was trying not to cry seeing the burn marks on her neck and cuts that littered her body. Blood was dripping down from her face and Kratos was also growing very concerned since she felt like a daughter to him. Now she was dying in Sindri's arms from an unknown sickness
