Blood
"Are you feeling okay now?" Atreus asked as Hilda nodded.
"Not going to lie, I am hearing many voices in my head right now, and I can't make them out, but they aren't happy; I can tell you that much," Hilda said softly.
"I don't know why I thought we could do this; I am killing you," he said as he quickly shot a nightmare down.
"No, you are not. Stop blaming yourself. If it gets too bad, I'll let you know, or you will let me know. I just hope my mind doesn't drift off," she informed.
"Yeah, if it does, don't worry about it. I'll get you back one way or another," he said as hel-walkers started to come out of their hiding places.
"I know how much you like big animals," Atreus said with a smirk as he turned into a wolf and started attacking the hel-walkers.
"You can turn into a wolf?" Thrúd asked, shocked as they started fighting them.
Once they were done, he turned back and spat out some blood that wasn't his.
"That's nasty," he said as Hilda approached him and kissed him.
"You are something, Atreus,' she said as she scratched his head.
"That feels amazing! I can see why Níðhögg likes it so much," he said as he accidentally turned into a wolf again, making her laugh.
"I guess you can tame all creatures, including men," Thrúd said as he quickly returned to his original form.
"I did not mean to do that," he said as she helped him.
"When we return home, I'll do it better," she smiled.
"Better? I don't think there is a way you can make that better," he said.
"Well, a belly rub I can do," she smiled as he smiled.
"Okay, you two get a room, please," Thrúd informed.
"Okay, so we need to push this since there is a gaping hole in the wall now," Hilda said.
"I got this," Atreus said as both Hilda and Thrúd looked at each other and then watched him struggle with it.
"Here, Atreus, I got it," Hilda said as she moved it. Atreus tried to help, but Thrúd began to support the theme, okay, right?" Atreus asked Thrúd.
"I guess. Maybe our families are meant to be enemies," Thrúd said as they pushed a giant stone block to help them get over the wall.
"Well, not us, I don't believe that," Atreus said as Hilda had to stop to catch her breath.
"Hilda, you aren't going to get sick again, are you?" Thrúd asked.
"No, I am just. I feel like I... feel like everything in me is getting drained. The more I do, the weaker I feel. You two need to go ahead, and I will stay behind. I can't do this," she said as cuts started reappearing on her face.
"Hilda, I am not leaving you here," Atreus said as he went beside her.
"Atreus, I can barely catch my breath right now. I'm slowing you two to end up dead because I'm too slow," she informed.
"Still not going to happen; I will carry you if I have to," Atreus informed as he helped her up, and they could hear her bones cracking as she stood up.
"That spell your mother did to you is killing you, right? Is that why you won't go to grandfather? It's already too late to fix," Thrúd said.
"No, Fraya has been taking care of her powers. She has been helping her, but whatever she did was temporary until she could get the things she needed to fix Hilda," Atreus informed as they continued their journey.
"You know I think you would make a great Valkyrie, and I'll tell your mother that too even if she scares me a little," Hilda informed after a few minutes of silence.
"Thank you, that means a lot," Thrúd said.
"I was going to say that you must be a mind reader," Atreus smiled.
"No, but she is better than us at Atreus. She has been taught well," Hilda informed.
"Another dead end," Thrúd said as Hilda smiled.
"I don't think so. This place is more sturdy than the last one," Hilda said as she took out her smithing stone and looked at the door carefully.
"Just in case I'm wrong, back up just a little," Hilda said as she hit the door, and it fell apart.
"Whoops, I didn't mean to do that," Hikda said as they threw anyway.
"Hilda, there are hel-walkers; you might want to stay back," Thrúd said as Hilda rolled her eyes and got out a bomb Sindri gave her.
"Not a chance," Hilda said as she lit the bomb and rolled it to the hel-walkers.
The bomb exploded and also took out the next door they needed, making them shocked.
"Hilda, that will attract attention!" Atreus informed.
"Well, there was a lot of them," Hilda informed.
Atreus was following the mask, but it acted funny with all the buildings in the way.
"Serious question, are you two messing with me because I need this to go well so my family can see what I can do," Thrúd informed.
"I know; we both need to prove things to our families," Atreus informed.
"I'm just here if I fail well too bad. If I succeed, great; I am just here to help. I don't need to prove anything to anyone other than myself," Hilda informed.
"Well, Sindri and Brok already know what you're capable of. Plus, you never give up if you can't do something. My father doesn't think I can do this. He doesn't hold you to a standard because you aren't his kid," Atreus informed.
"Just because I'm not his kid doesn't mean he doesn't hold me to a standard. Once he found out I was Odin's child, he started to treat me differently. He thinks I'm like him, but I'm not. Well, I am stubborn. I guess that is what we have in common. But I have always been that way," she informed.
"I hope you know I don't care who your father is. I just know that I love you. Blood family is important, but you made your own without Odin," he said.
"Another door! Sweet, I got this," Hilda said as she took out her stone and touched the door with her hand.
"Need some help?" Thrúd asked.
"Actually, yeah, the weak spot is up there. See that small crack up there?" Hilda asked.
"No, but you are the one that has an eye for detail, being with two dwarfs," Thrúd said as she prided the door open.
"You better hurry. This door is fighting me!" She said as she tried to keep it open.
"I can see why. Atreus, there is a wooden gear holding a chain. You need to break it. We will have double back again and go threw the hole to get down. This part is unstable," Hilda said as she quickly jammed herself between the door to keep it open longer.
"You are doing good, Thrúd, just a little longer!" Hilda said as Atreus broke the wheel; both hopped out and let the door close again.
"You do know your stuff," Thrúd said with a smile.
"Thanks, Sindri taught me a lot about fixing broken things. Brok did, too, but he wanted to teach me how to make things," she informed.
"So I talk about my mother often; what is your father like?" Thrúd asked.
"Well, he's intense, like he's trying to force me into this mold, but I'm not sure it's me. I wish he were more like Hilda, more understanding in that way, but it's not him," Atreus explained.
"Oof, I know exactly what that's like," Thrúd informed.
"The thing is, I don't know what I want. I love that you do," he informed.
"You'll figure it out, and you have figured out something. You love Hilda for her. Few people were happy when they found out she was my aunt. It's not her fault. Don't let anyone say it's yours, Hilda. Your mother could have killed you spitefully, but she didn't. I know what your mother did was wrong, but at least she cared about you enough to have you and raise you. I don't know if I could do that," Thrúd informed.
There were more hel-walkers, and they were quickly taken out. It seemed like Hilda and Thrúd were getting along great despite Thrúd not believing that her grandfather was a monster, but it wasn't her fault. He could see her parents trying to protect her from that. After all, they were family.
"Nice job Thrúd; if you keep this up, I know you will be a Valkyrie," Hilda said.
"Thanks," she said with a smile.
"How did you know you wanted to be a Valkyrie?" Atreus asked as he removed the mask and saw it was still heading straight.
"Well, after a bad fight with my mother, I snuck out and saw the Valkyrie training. Hey Loki, this block is stuck!" Thrúd informed, pushing a block into a hole for a secret door to open.
"Here, I'll see if I can find the problem. It looks like this place could use your eye, Hilda," Atreus smiled.
"Everything is not how it should be. Fimble winter has caused a lot of problems everywhere," Hilda informed as she went to go help Atreus.
Atreus saw what was wrong and quickly destroyed it, and Thrúd quickly pushed it.
"As I was saying, seeing them fight with style, no apologies. It gave me clarity as clear as day," she informed.
"Too bad giants have to follow prophecy," Atreus said.
"Who cares? Make your path like we have been doing here. I don't think Hilda was in your future either now, was she?" Thrúd asked.
"No, she wasn't, but I'm glad I have her," Atreus said as he smiled at her.
"I got the door!" Hilda said as Atreus smiled.
"Hey, I can do it," Atreus informed.
"Sure, I would like to see it," she said as he tried to make her smile.
"Nice butt," she said as she hit it.
"Hey! Stop it, Hilda," he said as she hit the door with the stone.
"No, I like you way too much to stop now," she smiled.
"You two, I swear, I don't understand your relationship at all, but I'm glad you like each other," Thrúd informed. As Ingrid quickly took out some hel-walkers.
"Nice job, Ingrid! Man, you are a pretty cool sword. Once we put the mask together, we will do our best to take you home, okay? " Hilda said as Ingrid seemed happy to hear that.
"Okay, you two must get up there if you have arrows. I'll stay behind just in case more hel-walkers show up," she said as Atreus and Hilda saw a way out and took it.
"Ingrid, was I too forward talking about her grandfather like that? She should know the truth, right?" Atreus asked as Hilda followed him.
"I guess you're right," Atreus said as he sighed.
They found a way to get Thrúd out, and they went back to her.
"Did you hear that?" Thrúd asked as a roar echoed through the whole area.
"Whatever it is, it doesn't sound too happy," Hilda informed.
"The other piece of the mask is close. See how it's glowing?" Atreus asked.
"Nice, let's go!" Hilda smiled as they went to the sound, all looking at it, shocked.
"That is one big fluffy boy," Hilda informed, seeing a massive wolf.
The wolf was enormous, but far away, she couldn't tell how large. It wasn't a normal wolf, which was a cause for concern. Being chained up in hell for who knows how long meant it had to be there for a reason. Maybe to protect the mask, or this was its punishment for something. Whatever the case, she could feel its pain just like Atreus was. It had to be because they were connected threw her powers. Her powers were growing, and if she was feeding off of Atreus, this was not going to end well for him either if her powers decided to go insane.
"That thing is huge. It might be dangerous," Thrúd informed.
"I don't think so," Atreus said.
"Atreus, you know that mask piece might be inside that creature, right?" Hilda asked as Atreus looked at her oddly.
"What?" Atreus asked.
"Your mask is glowing, and it's going to the wolf," Hilda said.
"That would explain the chains. He could also be there for another reason, Atreus," Thrúd informed.
"You're right, but he wants to be free. It's a big thing," Atreus informed.
"Atreus, are you sure that mask piece is behind him? It could be in him," Hilda informed.
"It can't be. He has to be guarding it," Atreus said.
"Okay, look, I won't be upset if it's not. Thrúd, let's help him out," she informed.
"I have to be right about this," Atreus said.
"You won't be right about everything," Hilda informed.
"I know, but I need to just this time," he said.
"Okay, let's go free that wolf," Hilda informed.
"You two are crazy; I hope you're right, Atreus," Thrúd informed.
They started to break the chains, and he was a lot bigger up close. He broke free, and Hilda watched him leave. There was a sinking feeling in her stomach, making her sigh.
"My mask isn't glowing...." Atreus informed softly.
"What?" Thrúd asked.
"I don't know, this never happened before," Atreus said.
"Hilda must be right. It had to be inside that thing, or it wasn't here at all," Thrúd sighed, discouraged.
"Atreus, it's okay," Hilda said, trying to make it seem better.
"If he wasn't too busy fooling around with you, he may have gotten where the mask was right! We let that thing loose; grandfather is going to kill me!" Thrúd informed.
"No, he won't because I let it go," Hilda said.
"What, no, you didn't. We all three did no thanks to Atreus!" She said.
"No, you tried to stop me, but I didn't listen. Atreus felt like it was in pain, and so did I. I tricked you," Hilda said.
"Why are you saying that?" Atreus asked.
"Odin is going to be mad; he might hurt her," Hilda informed.
"You can't lie to Heimdall!" Thrúd informed.
"He couldn't see me mocking him," Hilda informed.
"He did, too," Thrúd informed.
"Then why was he so shocked? It might be the voices keeping him from seeing my moves," she informed.
"Let's just get out of here," Thrúd said, annoyed.
"Thrúd, it isn't his fault. He could have also translated the words wrong; knowing so many languages, it isn't simple. I know you are upset, and we can do nothing about it, but I am proud of you, okay? It doesn't mean much to you, but it's all I can offer. We wouldn't have made it here if it wasn't for you," Hilda informed.
"Save it; I can't believe I trusted you two," Thrúd informed as Hilda looked at Atreus sadly.
"It's going to be okay; I'll find that missing piece," Atreus reassured.
Things collapsed around them due to the wolf being free. It was ripping things apart, and she didn't have to hear it, but she could feel it deep within her bones. They made it back to see scratches in the very fabric of the realm making Hilda afraid.
"You absolute moron! Do you have any idea what you have done? Do you know that is a tear between realms right? I shouldn't have expected anything less from a half-breed!" Heimdall said, annoyed.
"Don't call me a half-breed!" Atreus said, but Heimdall hit him with his sword making Hilda look at them horrified.
She could feel her powers bubbling over like they wanted to explode, but she couldn't use them. She knew she couldn't make this even harder to watch.
"Don't touch him!" Hilda growled as Heimdall smiled.
"You had some nerve earlier, you sorry excuse for a God, but I guess that's what you get for being the daughter of a whore!" Heimdall informed.
"Leave them alone; it was a mistake," Thrúd informed.
"No! The mistake was to let you think that you were ready!" He growled as those two started arguing, and Thrúd tried to land a punch on him but couldn't.
Hilda couldn't let this slide. She was angry. All she felt was anger as her hands started shaking then her body and Thrúd hit the ground.
"Leave my family alone," Hilda said as Heimdall looked at Hilda.
"You are telling me what to do? How about you let me do what I want, or your head will be given to Odin? I know how much he hated looking at you," he informed.
"Leave. My. Family. Alone," she said again, and the air shifted.
It felt heavy and dark, making Atreus realize that Hilda wasn't in control anymore.
"Heimdall, back off. I need to calm her down," Atreus said softly as he tried to get up, but Heimdall hit him harder this time.
Vines of gold light quickly wrapped around Heimdalls wrists, neck, and ankles, shocking everyone as Hilda's hair turned pure black and her eyes. The veins in her face started to the turban, making her skin gray.
"Hilda!" Atreus yelled as she started bleeding.
"Leave. My. Family. Alone," she growled in a distorted voice.
"What's wrong with her?" Thrúd asked.
"I don't know!" Atreus said as the voices started to get louder and louder, and a high-pitched screech hit their ears.
Kratos froze as he sat at the table at home with Sindri. He could hear something, and he felt something that was made from pure rage. He could feel it slowly rising, making him look at Sindri.
"You feel it too?" Sindri asked as gold markings started to appear around Kratos's arms, and Sindri backed off, realizing it was Hilda. The Cain marks from the blades of Chaos disappeared, making Sindri horrified as the markings disappeared.
"That can't be good," Sindri informed as Kratos looked down at himself, and all of his scars were gone.
Kratos felt fear as he touched the scars that were supposed to be there but weren't any longer. A loud high, pitched screech filled his ears, and Sindri, Brok, Fraya, and Týr.
"Hilda, stop it!" Atreus yelled as gashes started appearing on her face.
"My. Family!" She growled as the gold chains started to turn red.
Heimdall tried hard to fight back, but he couldn't, making him go to his knees as she was choking him with her powers. Her powers on Heimdall started to weaken when blood dripped from her arms, making her scream.
She fell to her knees, and the scream fell silent. Her powers on Heimdall broke, and Atreus quickly went over to her to try to help Hilda.
"I can't feel my arms!" She said as he started taking off her armor.
"I guess I get to kill you soon after all," Heimdall smiled as Atreus saw chain marks on her arms.
"These look like my father's scars," Atreus said as blood started to pool under her.
"Run," Hilda said as her eyes turned black again.
"Hilda, what's wrong?" Atreus asked.
"They're coming, and I can't hold them back. They are so angry," Hilda said as he saw the blood pooling in a perfect circle.
"Atreus?" Thrúd asked as Hilda lay on the ground as her body wasn't healing correctly.
"Hilda!" Atreus yelled as she was screaming bloody murder.
Blood was coming from everywhere, and Atreus tried to stop the blood, but it wasn't stopping.
"Hilda! I'm here; I'm here!" Atreus said as panic filled his body.
They were not in a perfect bloody circle, while Atreus did everything to stop the bleeding. She stopped screaming and went limp, making Atreus terrified.
"Js, she finally dead?" Heimdall asked as the loud screech returned, but this time it was louder, and the voices came back stronger.
"Thrúd, I need your help!" Atreus yelled as a bloody hand grabbed his wrist, making Thrúd scream in shock.
Markings on his arms appeared, making the hand let go of him, but it kept trying to grab him. Other hands started to come out of the blood, making thrúd look at Hilda, who was just as shocked as she was.
"Thrúd help!" Atreus yelled as a person started to come out of the blood.
"What do you need?" Thrúd asked.
"Shock her! You have Thor's powers! If you are shocked, it could make her come back!" Atreus yelled as both Heimdall and Thrúd were covering their ears.
"Bring her back from where?!" She yelled.
"Where she is now! She's dying! If she dies, we might not be able to stop whatever the fuck this is!" He yelled as Thrúd quickly approached them and shocked Hilda, making her jolt awake.
The scream and the voices stopped, and Hilda looked around, horrified. The blood disappeared, and Heimdall got put away his sword.
"You are so lucky I don't kill you right now; all father needs you to explain this mess!" Heimdall informed as Hilda hugged Atreus tightly in her arms.
"What was that?" Thrúd asked as Heimdall smiled.
"A little gift left to us by her mother. If she does that again, she's going to die. I'll make sure of it myself. No other gods are going to die on my watch. Maybe all father will have no use for you know," he said as Thrúd backed away from the both of them.
"Your mother made you into a weapon against us?" Thrúd asked.
"Of course she did! Why wouldn't she? It's the real reason why she had her. Do you think she could love all father, Thrúd? If you thought she did, you are a bigger moron than that half-breed that loves her. He doesn't love her, but all that power bottled up inside of her," he informed as Atreus held her close to him.
