Prologue

Author's Note: All parts of this story are entirely fictitious including characters, places and names. If there is anything which seemed familiar, it is purely coincidental.

"In other news, a lifeless body was found by a local whose identity is unknown. The face was completely scarred and unidentifiable as of today. A local happened to pass by and saw someone seemed to be stumped in the sewer thinking the person was drunk and totally passed out. But when he tried to ask if the person is okay, he was baffled and in shock at what he saw." Anna Duncan of Ch3 reported. "Here's what the local has to say."

A video of the interview was shown.
"I-I don't know what to feel at that moment. All along, I th-thought he was just passed out, considering it's dawn already." The local named Albert stuttered as he shy away from the camera. "But when I got to saw his face, I was astonished. I lost it for a moment before I got to call the police."

Sighing with frustration, Detective III Clint McGonagall massaged his forehead with his fingers. He threw his eyeglasses to the table and turned off the television.

"You know what, I don't understand?" His subordinate, Dominic Torres, commented as he placed a cup of coffee on the table.

Their team was studying the case prior the latest newsflash for almost a week now and have been perplexed in finding possible reasons and clues on who their probable suspect is but were given another assignment. It's not that he's complaining.

Clint was just finding it hard to decipher how will he manage those two different cases. Both of almost the same gravity.

Murder and manslaughter. Indeed, those two are pretty hard to track down.

But with Dominic in their team, despite being younger both in age and experience, he can easily boost their team's moral.

Their team of six includes the two of them who have been seniors and became detectives in their field, two police officers and two rookies. Their Task Force Maroon was formed two years ago when they caught a hardened criminal who went around with serious drug offenses and also happened to be included in human trafficking.

The said cases were resolved in a span of three to four months because of the eagerness of the members to work on it and exerted their best efforts.

"What is it?" Detective McGonagall asked as he sipped on his coffee. He raised his eyes to meet him as Detective Torres sat down across from him.

"I don't want to assume but this has the same pattern from five years ago." Detective Torres remarked as he rested his eyes on the screen in front of them.

On the screen were photos of the victims who were stumped on several shady places like sewers, dams and even creeks within and on the outskirts of their city named Vanderbiltz.

"Hey. I heard that." SPO2 Heidi Clements commented as she browsed on the case files in front of her.

SPO2 Clements was shuffling the papers since the day they were assigned the case. To be more specific, about two days ago.

Today was the second murder inside their city. And it has been earning fear and panic among the townspeople.

Vanderbiltz is a small town inside Ohio with predominantly friendly neighborhood that people know one another. So it's not new to anybody if in only a span of minutes, everyone knew what's happening inside one's household.

"Are you guys talking about the case five years ago? The Felicio Murders?" SPO1 Mario Trinidad asked and SPO2 Clements nodded.

"Hey, that has long been solved." Detective McGonagall said but his partner shook his head.

"I don't think so." Detective Torres said. He pointed at the photos before saying, "Look at those marks. Yes, they have different initials, but haven't you noticed the patterns? Same patterns from five years ago but different method, today. Isn't it strange?"

Detective McGonagall's jaw dropped open in realization. He blinked in disbelief. Both in himself and in what his partner had pointed out.

"Is it possible?" SPO2 Clements asked. "I mean, the twin was in a mental facility up to this date. Her twin died. Are you sure?"

Detective McGonagall pursed his lips  waiting for Detective Torres to answer her.

"For a killer who's after vengeance or any of some sort, anything is possible." He said which left Detective McGonagall speechless and in trance.

Maybe, it is possible.
