Chapter One

Eva Felicio

"How are you today, Eva?" Nurse Paula Catalona asked and I looked at her.

"What do you think?" I snapped and rolled my eyes.

"Keep doing that and you may never get out of here." Nurse Paula sighed.

I watched her slipped out a key from her pocket and slid on a tray of food for me. I was famished but I decided not to show it to anyone.

I will just eat it later when they are out of earshot. I was so conscious of what people will think of me.

I crawled slowly to the door where the food tray was and grabbed it in a hurry.

The food was the usual: a cup of rice, two to three veggies and a slice of apple or pineapple.

I stuffed my mouth with food and finished it all in only five minutes. I was that hungry.

I drank the water until its last drop and let out a loud burp before I return it to the spot where Nurse Paula left it. I went back to my fave spot at the corner and stared into nothing.

I can still vividly remember the day when my sister, Evie, took her own life when the cops has closed in on her. That was the day when the last of the men who killed our parents died in my sister's hands.

The end of their lives might be cruel but it doesn't even compare to how they destroyed our innocent minds when they decided to rob a gas station and ended up killing the people inside it.

Me and my sister met about a day after. I laughed when I recalled how weird we were to finally learn about each other's existence.

We were astonished to see how identical we were. The only difference we have was our moles on our necks. I only have one below my right ear while Eva has a mole on the left side of her neck.

We immediately took the time to get to know each other secretly. It was during our high school days when she revealed her dark side to me. She was the one who always wanted to avenge our parents' death even if I warned her not to a countless times.

Between the two of us, she was the cheerful and perky one. No one will notice how she has been wanting to find the ways to search for the men responsible for our parents' untimely demise.

I sighed and pretty soon, I succumbed to a dreamless sleep.

3rd Person's POV

"A male body was found lifeless in a stream along Denver at around three in the morning earlier. A local told the news team how he found out the victim." Anna of Ch3 reported. "Here's what he has to say."

"I was on m-my way to work. A car passed by and his headlights shone on the shirt of the victim." The local, in his twenties, stammered in fear and obvious shock. "I went closer to see and help him. But when I get to have a look on his face, I-I was frightened. His face was ruined on purpose."

Detective McGonagall sighed and shook his head. He met his gaze with Detective Torres and raised an eyebrow.

"See! That is what I have been telling you! The killings have been going on again! And, it's the third time this week alone!" Detective Torres exclaimed. "I wouldn't be surprised if Vanderbiltz become a ghost town in less than a month."

"Hey. Can you stop being negative?" SP02 Clements frowned at him.

"Very nice!" SP01 Trinidad clapped and chuckled at SP02 Clements. "Suddenly, I can see our team finally solving the crime! All we did was discuss, guys! Aren't we gonna do some action?"

His last line earned a glare from both the detectives and he gulped sheepishly raising a peace sign at them.

"Sorry. Was just excited to solve this soon." SP01 Trinidad admitted.

"Don't we all?" Detective Torres asked and they nodded at him. All SP01 Trinidad can do was to return to his seat from his previous post at the door of the conference room.

"Detective Torres!" Their rookie, Exodus Fields, rushed to the room where everyone was and all of them turned their eyes to him.

"What is it?" Detective Torres asked.

"I think I have found something." Exodus said and threw a file of paper on the table.
