Chapter 1: A New Beginning
----------------------------------------------
I held the pregnancy test in my hand and covered my mouth, sliding down the bathroom wall and clutching my head.
"What does it say?" Levy said kneeling down next to me. I looked up at her and she could finally see the panic written blatantly across my face. She stared back in shock, sympathy in her eyes. Levy awkwardly lifted up her hand and placed it on my back. "There's always a possibility the test messed up."
I let out a long sigh and breathed in a long gasp of air.
"I used the whole box." I finally breathed out.
"What did they all say?"
"Positive." I let out a soft laugh and point to the two on the floor next to me. "Two said Negative...."
"Well at least there's a chance it's lying." She tried. I gave her a glare and she exhaled loudly. "Sorry I'm not very good when it comes to situations like this." She admitted, holding her hands up in defeat. A few stray tears began to weld up in my eyes, threatening to spill. She noticed and her eyes went wide.
"It'll be O.K!" She quickly exclaimed. "I'm sure he'll be happy for you!" I could see the flicker of hope in her eyes; yet it didn't help the situation I was in. I sighed and finally spoke,
"I can't."
"Can't what?"
"I..I can't tell him."
"Why can't you tell him?"
"I don't know. Give me some time..." I ran my fingers through my messy hair aggressively and stood up, Levy doing the same.
"I can help Lucy. I'll be there for you. It's just...you can't just leave him like that!" I kept running my fingers through my hair as if it would do me any good. Oh how I would love to go back.
"How..?
"How what? Lucy you need to speak English."
"How can I tell him?"
"Just...be straight forward..." I pushed myself off the wall and began running the water in the sink. After waiting for it to warm up, I splashed it on my face. Continuing to splash my face, and hoping it would wake me from this dream. But it didn't. This truly was reality. I couldn't subside my self and violently turned off the faucet. I turned around and faced Levy and breathed out heavily. "Lucy.....It's O.K. What's the worst that could happen?"
"He tells me to leave and abort the child, or put it up for adoption."
"Lucy!!! Don't think that way!! To be honest, the worst he could do is say the child isn't his and disown it."
"You're not helping!!!" I screech. She covered her mouth and began mumbling profanities under her breath.
"I'm sorry. I'm terrible like this."
She looked down at her toes and began to chuckle.
"What?" I interrupted. She looked up at me and laughed at my flustered face.
"Just the thought of you looking like a giant watermelon just makes me chuckle."
"Hey!" I scream. She begins laughing louder causing me to blush in embarrassment. I soon joined in on her laughter. After awhile we sobered up and the laughter died down.
We sat in silence until it began to grow awkward. The cramped bathroom only made it even more weird.
"I'm starving." I erupted. Levy giggled and soon followed behind me shutting the door. "Want breakfast?" I ask her. I walked over to the kitchen and began rummaging through the cabinets.
"Sure! What do you have?" She sat down on a nearby barstool at the kitchens island and placed her head in her hands. Her eyes followed me around as I skimmed the cabinets.
"I can make pancakes."
"Oh, I can't put you through that much hassle. I can just have cereal or buy something at the gui-"
"Levy. Seriously it's fine!" I interrupt her as I pulled out a container and leaned on the counter. I shake the container in my hand. "Plus! I got one of those really cheap kinds that make making pancakes super easy." I say in a funny accent making her giggle. I take that as a yes and began adding water to the container and shaked the water with the containers contents.
"Do you need any help?" She asks.
"Levy, why do you have to be so nice?" I argued, turning to face her. "Thanks for the offer, but seriously! All you need is water and boom! Pancakes!"
"Wait seriously? I'm going to have to get me one of those. Are they cheap?"
"Darlin' I got cabinets of 'em! The boys eat these like they're life depends on it!" I admitted. She burst into laughter and stood up from the counter walking over to me.
"Care if I take one?"
"Go right ahead. I'm pretty sure Gajeel will love them." I implied, getting really close to her face, hoping to get a hint of an expression. Levy's face turned Crimson; enough to rival Erzas hair. I erupted into laughter and was soon set into a sudden stop when Levy hit me forcefully on the shoulder.
"LUCY!!!" I laughed even louder at Levys sudden outburst. She puts the Pancake mix back in the cabinet and stormed over to the barstool before plopping down onto the seat and began to pout.
"Would it make you feel better if I told you that I'm almost done?" She perked up and nods.
Levy always made me feel better. No matter what the situation. I don't know how or why but she always finds a way to subside whatever storm that is going on in your life.
I took a paper plate and slid it across the table so it landed in front of Levy. I toss her a fork and some syrup and she stares back at me like I just threw her a chainsaw.
"Sorry, I'm used to it." I began as I sat down at the table with my own plate of pancakes. She takes the syrup and drenches her pancakes in syrup. I stare at her in awe as she places a chunk in her mouth.
"What?" She mutters out through a mouth full of food.
"How do you live like that? I could seriously take your plate and use your leftover syrup and be able to feed Magnolia with this." I say as I take the syrup from her and pour a simple amount on my food. Levy covers her mouth as she laughs.
"It's seriously hard to imagine that a couple of minutes ago you were on the verge of tears." I choke on my food and give her a look. Her eyes go wide and she opens her mouth, lost for words.
"Don't remind me." I mumble.
"I'm sorry Lucy..." She finally uttered out.
"It's.. Ok." we sat in silence as I finished my pancakes.
"I'm probably more awkward than the word awkward." Levy admitted. I snorted unattractively and look at her.
"It's gonna be even more awkward when I tell Natsu the news."
"Nuh-uh."
"Yeah-huh."
"Do you wanna have an awkward off?!?" Levy shouts as she smacks her hand in the counter and abruptly stands up.
"Oh it's on!!!" I roared as I stood up. We stared into eachothers eyes until we erupt into laughter.
"What is wrong with us?" I declared. Levy laughed even louder and began to tear up. "Levy you're crying!" I shout with tears in my eyes.
"You're one to talk!" She argued.
Oh do I wish this moment would last.

Levy opened the doors to the guild and walked in with me trailing behind. I began to slow down when I noticed Natsu sitting at the bar. Levy noticed and grabbed my wrist.
"You can do it." She whispers to me. I nod and continue to walk. I sit down a stool away from Natsu and look towards Levy. She gives me a look of "what-the-heck" and I give her the look of "you-can't-make-me." She rolls her eyes and sighs as she sits down beside Natsu. Natsu glances our way and notices us and grins.
"Hey! How are you two? You're awfully late this morning." He began.
"Oh we're doing peachy! Yeah... we were late for reasons." She turns to face me and mouths "now's your chance." I shake my head violently and she rolls her eyes.
"Hey Natsu, What do you think about children?" I blush and quickly turn the stool to face the other direction.
"What do you mean?" He asks out of curiosity.
"You know, like settling down and starting a family?"
"I don't know. I sort of enjoy the single life and don't want any kids. It's easier you know? Not having to deal with issues like that."
"And if some random Jane Doe came up to you saying she was pregnant with your kid?"
"Well.... I don't know.... It probably wouldn't make sense being some random girl on the streets but I guess I would say it wasn't mine." He leans back with his arms resting behind his head. "I don't want any kids at the moment." I choke on my spit at his words. Levy quickly turns to face me.
"Are you okay?" She asked with wide eyes.
"Yeah. I just -cough- need some fresh air." I say in between coughs. I get up and walk out the door earning a couple of side glares from the guild. I quickly jog to the side of the large building, hoping to hide from any followers, but to no prevail.
"Lucy, I'm sure he didn't mean it-"
"I'm sure he meant it." I barked as tears threatened to spill. I leaned against the guilds wall and put my hand on my knees. Levys eyes were filled with sympathy.
"What are we going to do?"
She spoke interrupting the silence.
"Tell the guild I'm going on Vacation." I sobbed.
"Lucy I don't think it's time to be Dramatic."
"I'm not being dramatic I'm pregnant for Petes sake!" I roared. My out burst took her aback and her eyes went wide in shock. She eventually hung her head and sighed. She placed her hands on my shoulders and looked up at me with tear filled eyes.
"Lucy. You have to promise me you will be back... You can't leave me..!" She commanded between tears.
"I-I will. Only if you promise to visit." She nodded in agreement and enveloped me into a warming hug.
"Please tell them I'll be back. If they continue to ask where I am, just tell him my hamster got sick or something." I say with a faint smile she chuckled and wiped her tears from her face.
"Ok. You better get going before any of the guild ask you if they could come." I chuckle and let her go.
"Until then." I added.
"Until then." She pulled me into one more hug until waving me off. Oh how it ached to leave.
"Lucy?" I flinched as I heard the familiar voice coming from the direction of my window. I slowly turn around to see Natsu in my room.
"H-Hi." I finally muttered.
"What are you doing?" He asked coming closer to me.
"I'm just going on a vacation." I say giving him an awkward smile. He didn't seem convinced.
"Was... Was it something I said?" He declared. Oh how I hate lying.
"No! No, no, no, no, no. It's just... One of my old workers just got diagnosed with a deadly disease and I wanted to be there to help her." I lied.
"O-okay... How long will you be?" He ask.
"I honestly don't know." At least I wasn't lying then.
"Would you like me to come?"
"Oh no! I'm just going there to help her out and maybe see some of my other maids and workers from my childhood. You'll find it boring." I conclude. He sighed and runs his fingers through his hair. I stood there awkwardly but was soon left surprised when he wrapped his arms around me in a hug.
"Please don't be long." He whispers. I felt tears in my eyes.
"Natsu. You're only making this harder on me." I chuckle.
"Good."
"What?"
"Lucy. I have a bad feeling about this. Just.... please be safe." He finishes before letting me go. He swiftly walks towards the window and jumped out. Leaving me alone. I sighed once more and picked up my luggage and head towards the door. I open it and lock it with the key in my pocket. I decent the stairs and head out the door, getting ready to greet my new life.
